The Recitation Made Easy
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split.
بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم ٱقتربت ٱلساعة وٱنشق ٱلقمرAnd if they see a sign, they turn away and say: 'A persistent illusion.'
وإن يروا ءاية يعرضوا ويقولوا سحر مستمرThey denied, and followed their emotions.
وكذبوا وٱتبعوا أهوآءهمYet every matter finds its settled term.
وكل أمر مستقرThere had indeed come to them, among the pieces of information, that which should deter [them],
ولقد جآءهم من ٱلأنبآء ما فيه مزدجرa consummate wisdom —
حكمة بلغةbut of what avail are warnings [to them]?
فما تغن ٱلنذرSo turn away from them.
فتول عنهمThe Day the Caller calls to something unheard-of, their eyes humble, they will emerge from the sepulchres as if they were locusts deployed, rushing toward the Caller,
يوم يدع ٱلداع إلى شىء نكر خشعا أبصرهم يخرجون من ٱلأجداث كأنهم جراد منتشر مهطعين إلى ٱلداعThose who disown will say: 'This is a difficult day.'
يقول ٱلكفرون هذا يوم عسرBefore them, the people of Nuh denied: they denied Our obedient one and said, 'He is deranged,' and he was violently repelled.
كذبت قبلهم قوم نوح فكذبوا عبدنا وقالوا مجنون وٱزدجرSo he called upon his Guardian: 'I am overpowered, so grant [me] help.'
فدعا ربه أني مغلوب فٱنتصرSo We opened the gates of heaven with pouring water,
ففتحنآ أبوب ٱلسمآء بمآء منهمرand caused the earth to burst forth in springs, so the waters met according to a matter already decreed.
وفجرنا ٱلأرض عيونا فٱلتقى ٱلمآء على أمر قد قدرAnd We carried him upon a vessel of planks and nails,
وحملنه على ذات ألوح ودسرIt sailed under Our eyes, a recompense for the one who had been disowned.
تجري بأعيننا جزآء لمن كان كفرWe have indeed left it as a sign: is there then anyone to remember?
ولقد تركنهآ ءاية فهل من مدكرSo how were My punishment and My warnings?
فكيف كان عذابي ونذرWe have indeed made the Recitation easy for remembrance: is there then anyone to remember?
ولقد يسرنا ٱلقرءان للذكر فهل من مدكرThe Recidivists [Aad] denied. So how were My punishment and My warnings?
كذبت عاد فكيف كان عذابي ونذرWe sent upon them an icy wind, on a day of persistent misfortune, tearing people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees.
إنآ أرسلنا عليهم ريحا صرصرا في يوم نحس مستمر تنزع ٱلناس كأنهم أعجاز نخل منقعرSo how were My punishment and My warnings?
فكيف كان عذابي ونذرWe have indeed made the Recitation easy for remembrance: is there then anyone to remember?
ولقد يسرنا ٱلقرءان للذكر فهل من مدكرthe Depleters [Thamud] denied the warnings.
كذبت ثمود بٱلنذرThey said: 'Shall we follow a single human from among us? We would then be in error and madness. Has the Reminder been cast upon him alone, among us? Rather, he is a boastful liar.'
فقالوا أبشرا منا وحدا نتبعه إنآ إذا لفي ضلل وسعر أءلقي ٱلذكر عليه من بيننا بل هو كذاب أشرThey will know tomorrow who is the boastful liar.
سيعلمون غدا من ٱلكذاب ٱلأشرWe are indeed sending the she-camel as a trial for them, so watch them and be patient.
إنا مرسلوا ٱلناقة فتنة لهم فٱرتقبهم وٱصطبرAnd inform them that the water is to be shared between them,
ونبئهم أن ٱلمآء قسمة بينهمeach turn to drink attended in its time.
كل شرب محتضرSo they called their companion, and he seized her and hamstrung her.
فنادوا صاحبهم فتعاطى فعقرSo how were My punishment and My warnings?
فكيف كان عذابي ونذرWe sent upon them a single cry, and they became like the dry twigs of a pen-builder.
إنآ أرسلنا عليهم صيحة وحدة فكانوا كهشيم ٱلمحتظرWe have indeed made the Recitation easy for remembrance: is there then anyone to remember?
ولقد يسرنا ٱلقرءان للذكر فهل من مدكرThe people of Lut denied the warnings.
كذبت قوم لوط بٱلنذرWe sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lut, whom We saved before dawn,
إنآ أرسلنا عليهم حاصبا إلآ ءال لوط نجينهم بسحرa blessing from Us.
نعمة من عندناThus do We recompense whoever is grateful.
كذلك نجزي من شكرHe had indeed warned them of Our Strike, but they doubted the warnings.
ولقد أنذرهم بطشتنا فتماروا بٱلنذرThey sought to turn him away from his guests, so We blinded their eyes: 'Taste, then, My punishment and My warnings.'
ولقد رودوه عن ضيفه فطمسنآ أعينهم فذوقوا عذابي ونذرA settled punishment indeed overtook them at early morning,
ولقد صبحهم بكرة عذاب مستقر'Taste, then, My punishment and My warnings.'
فذوقوا عذابي ونذرWe have indeed made the Recitation easy for remembrance: is there then anyone to remember?
ولقد يسرنا ٱلقرءان للذكر فهل من مدكرThe warnings had indeed come to Fir'awn's clan.
ولقد جآء ءال فرعون ٱلنذرThey denied all Our signs, so We seized them with the seizing of an All-Powerful, Capable One.
كذبوا بايتنا كلها فأخذنهم أخذ عزيز مقتدرAre those of you who disown better than those, or do you have an innocence in the Formularies?
أكفاركم خير من أولئكم أم لكم برآءة في ٱلزبرOr do they say: 'We are a united group, [we will be] helped'?
أم يقولون نحن جميع منتصرThe group will be defeated, and they will turn their backs [in flight].
سيهزم ٱلجمع ويولون ٱلدبرRather, the Hour is their appointed time,
بل ٱلساعة موعدهمand the Hour is more terrible and more bitter.
وٱلساعة أدهى وأمرThe severed are indeed in error and madness, the Day they are dragged into the Fire upon their faces: 'Taste the touch of Saqar.'
إن ٱلمجرمين في ضلل وسعر يوم يسحبون في ٱلنار على وجوههم ذوقوا مس سقرWe have indeed created every thing according to a measure.
إنا كل شىء خلقنه بقدرAnd Our command is but one, like the blink of an eye.
ومآ أمرنآ إلا وحدة كلمح بٱلبصرWe have indeed annihilated your likes: is there then anyone to remember?
ولقد أهلكنآ أشياعكم فهل من مدكرAnd everything they did is [recorded] in the Formularies.
وكل شىء فعلوه في ٱلزبرAnd everything, small or great, is inscribed.
وكل صغير وكبير مستطرThose who guard themselves are indeed in gardens and by a river, in a seat of truth, near a Sovereign, Capable.
إن ٱلمتقين في جنت ونهر في مقعد صدق عند مليك مقتدر
