At-Tahrim
The Prohibition
بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent.
O Informant! Why do you hold as prohibited what God has permitted you, seeking the approval of your wives?
يأيها ٱلنبي لم تحرم مآ أحل ٱلله لك تبتغي مرضات أزوجك
And God is Most-Forgiving, Benevolent.
وٱلله غفور رحيم
God has fixed for you the release from your oaths,
قد فرض ٱلله لكم تحلة أيمنكم
and God is your Ally.
وٱلله مولىكم
And He is the All-Knowing, the Wise.
وهو ٱلعليم ٱلحكيم
And when the Informant confided a discourse in secret to one of his wives,
وإذ أسر ٱلنبي إلى بعض أزوجه حديثا
and she informed others of it, and God uncovered it to him, he had part of it recognized and passed over another part.
فلما نبأت به وأظهره ٱلله عليه عرف بعضه وأعرض عن بعض
Then, when he informed her of it, she said: "Who informed you of this?" He said: "The All-Knowing, the Intimately Acquainted informed me."
فلما نبأها به قالت من أنبأك هذا قال نبأني ٱلعليم ٱلخبير
If you two turn back to God — for your cores have indeed bent —
إن تتوبآ إلى ٱلله فقد صغت قلوبكما
but if you support one another against him, then God is indeed his Ally, and Jibril, and those who are sound among the believers,
وإن تظهرا عليه فإن ٱلله هو مولىه وجبريل وصلح ٱلمؤمنين
and the Agents, moreover, are his support.
وٱلملئكة بعد ذلك ظهير
It may be that his Guardian, if he repudiates you, will give him in exchange wives better than you: true to God alone, believing, devoted, repentant, obedient, moving about freely, previously married or virgins.
عسى ربه إن طلقكن أن يبدله أزوجا خيرا منكن مسلمت مؤمنت قنتت تئبت عبدت سئحت ثيبت وأبكارا
O you who have believed! Guard your Selves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is men and stones, over which are Agents, harsh and severe, who do not disobey God in what He commands them, and who do what they are commanded.
يأيها ٱلذين ءامنوا قوا أنفسكم وأهليكم نارا وقودها ٱلناس وٱلحجارة عليها ملئكة غلاظ شداد لا يعصون ٱلله مآ أمرهم ويفعلون ما يؤمرون
O you who disowned! Do not make excuses today: you are only being recompensed for what you used to do.
يأيها ٱلذين كفروا لا تعتذروا ٱليوم إنما تجزون ما كنتم تعملون
O you who have believed! Turn back to God with a sincere turning back. It may be that your Guardian will cover your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow, on the day when God will not disgrace the Informant nor those who believed with him; their light will hurry before them and on their right.
يأيها ٱلذين ءامنوا توبوا إلى ٱلله توبة نصوحا عسى ربكم أن يكفر عنكم سياتكم ويدخلكم جنت تجري من تحتها ٱلأنهر يوم لا يخزي ٱلله ٱلنبي وٱلذين ءامنوا معه نورهم يسعى بين أيديهم وبأيمنهم
They will say: "Our Guardian, complete our light for us and forgive us,
يقولون ربنآ أتمم لنا نورنا وٱغفر لنآ
for You are capable of all things."
إنك على كل شىء قدير
O Informant! Strive against those who disown and the hypocrites, and be firm with them.
يأيها ٱلنبي جهد ٱلكفار وٱلمنفقين وٱغلظ عليهم
And their resort will be Jahannam,
ومأوىهم جهنم
and what an evil destination!
وبئس ٱلمصير
God adds an example for those who disowned: the wife of Nuh and the wife of Lut.
ضرب ٱلله مثلا للذين كفروا ٱمرأت نوح وٱمرأت لوط
They were under two of Our sound obedient ones, yet they betrayed them, so those two were of no avail to them against God,
كانتا تحت عبدين من عبادنا صلحين فخانتاهما فلم يغنيا عنهما من ٱلله شيا
and it was said: "Enter, both of you, the Fire with those who enter."
وقيل ٱدخلا ٱلنار مع ٱلدخلين
And God adds an example for those who believe: the wife of Fir'awn, when she said: "My Guardian, build for me, near You, a house in the Garden, and save me from Fir'awn and his doing, and save me from the wrongdoing people."
وضرب ٱلله مثلا للذين ءامنوا ٱمرأت فرعون إذ قالت رب ٱبن لي عندك بيتا في ٱلجنة ونجني من فرعون وعمله ونجني من ٱلقوم ٱلظلمين
And Maryam, daughter of Imran, who protected her intimacy; We breathed into it of Our Influx. She declared true the words of her Guardian and His scriptures, and was among the devoted.
ومريم ٱبنت عمرن ٱلتي أحصنت فرجها فنفخنا فيه من روحنا وصدقت بكلمت ربها وكتبه وكانت من ٱلقنتين
