۞
Ibrahim
-
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Alif. Lam. Ra.i 1
A Scripture that We have sent down to you, so that you may bring the people out of the darknesses into the light, with the permission of their Guardian, to the path of the All-Mighty, the Praiseworthy.i 1
God, to whom belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth. 2
And woe to those who deny, from a severe punishment —i 2
those who prefer the present life to the last life, who turn away from God's path and seek to make it crooked: those are the ones in deep error. 3
We have sent no envoy except in the language of his people, so that he might make [the message] clear to them; 4
God then lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills: 4
He is the All-Mighty, the Wise. 4
We have indeed sent Moussa with Our signs: "Bring your people out of the darknesses into the light, and remind them of the days of God."i 5
There are indeed in that signs for every very patient, very grateful one. 5
And [recall] when Moussa said to his people: "Remember God's blessing upon you, when He saved you from the people of Fir'awn, who inflicted upon you the worst punishment, slaughtering your sons and violating the honor of your women:i 6
and there was in that, from your Guardian, an immense trial." 6
And [recall] when your Guardian made known: "If you are grateful, I shall surely increase you; but if you deny, My punishment is indeed severe."i 7
And Moussa said: "If you deny, you and all who are on the earth, God is self-sufficient, He is praiseworthy."i 8
Has there not reached you the account of those before you, the people of Nuh, of the Recidivists [Aad] and the Depleters [Thamud], and those who came after them,i 9
whom only God knows? 9
Their envoys came to them with clear proofs, but they put their hands to their mouths and said: "We deny that with which you have been sent, and we are indeed in a troubling doubt about what you call us to."i 9
Their envoys said: "Is there doubt about God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you so as to forgive you some of your wrongs and grant you a delay until an appointed term." 10
They said: "You are only human beings like us; you want to turn us away from what our ancestors obeyed. So bring us a manifest authority." 10
Their envoys said to them: "We are only human beings like you, but God bestows grace upon whom He wills among His obedient ones. 11
It is not for us to bring you an authority, except with God's permission. 11
So let the believers place their trust in God." 11
And why should we not place our trust in God, when He has guided us on our paths? 12
We shall surely be patient in the face of the harm you do us; 12
so let those who place their trust [in God] place their trust in God." 12
And those who deny said to their envoys: "We shall surely expel you from our land, or you will return to our doctrine!"i 13
Their Guardian then revealed to them: "We shall surely destroy the wrongdoers, and We shall surely establish you on this land after them. 14
That is for whoever fears My position, and fears My threat."i 14
And they [all] sought victory, 15
and every stubborn tyrant was disappointed; behind him, Jahannam, and he will be given to drink there a purulent water, which he will gulp down without almost being able to swallow it; death will come to him from every side without his dying; and behind that, an implacable punishment.i 17
The example of those who deny their Guardian:i 18
their deeds are like ashes that the wind whips violently, on a stormy day: they can hold on to nothing of what they earned.i 18
That is the deep error. 18
Have you not seen that God created the heavens and the earth with truth? 19
If He willed, He would make you disappear and bring a new creation, 19
and that is not at all difficult for God. 20
And they will all appear before God, and the weak will say to those who were arrogant: "We were your followers; can you then be of any use to us, against God's punishment?" 21
They will say: "Had God guided us, we would certainly have guided you. 21
It is the same for us, whether we are impatient or patient: we have no escape."i 21
And the Diverter will say, when the matter is decided: "God made you a true promise, and I made you a promise, but I betrayed you; I had no authority over you, except to call you, and you answered me. So do not blame me, but blame yourselves: I am no rescuer of yours, nor are you mine. I deny that you associated me with God before."i 22
The wrongdoers will indeed have a painful punishment. 22
And those who believe and do righteous deeds will be admitted into gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will remain, with the permission of their Guardian. 23
Their greeting, there, will be: "Peace!" 23
Have you not seen how God multiplies an example? A good word is like a good tree, whose root is firm and whose branches are in the sky, giving its fruit at every moment, with the permission of its Guardian.i 25
And God multiplies the examples for the people, perhaps they will remember.i 25
And the example of a bad word is like a bad tree, uprooted from the surface of the earth, having no stability.i 26
God makes firm those who believe by the firm word, in the present life and in the last life, 27
and God lets the wrongdoers go astray, 27
and God does what He wills. 27
Have you not seen those who exchanged God's blessing for denial, and settled their people in the abode of ruin — Jahannam, wherein they will burn:i 29
what a detestable resting-place! 29
And they assigned rivals to God, so as to mislead from His path:i 30
Say: "Enjoy yourselves, for your destination is the Fire." 30
Tell My obedient ones who believe to maintain the Contact and to spend from what We have provided them, secretly and openly, before a day comes wherein there will be neither trade nor friendship.i 31
God is the One who created the heavens and the earth, and who sent down from the sky a water, by which He brought forth fruits as provision for you, and He subjected for you the vessel, so that it might sail upon the sea by His command, 32
and He subjected for you the rivers. 32
And He subjected for you the sun and the moon, constant in their course,i 33
and He subjected for you the night and the day. 33
And He gave you of everything you asked of Him; 34
and if you counted God's blessing, you could not enumerate it. 34
The human being is indeed quite unjust, a great denier.i 34
And [recall] when Ibrahim said: "My Guardian, make this land a secure place, and keep me and my sons away from obeying idols.i 35
My Guardian, they have led astray a great number of people. Whoever follows me is then of mine, and whoever disobeys me — You are then Most-Forgiving, full of benevolence. 36
Our Guardian, I have settled part of my progeny in a valley without cultivation, near Your Forbidden House,i 37
Our Guardian, so that they may maintain the Contact; so make consciences, among the people, incline toward them, and provide them with fruits, perhaps they will be grateful.i 37
Our Guardian, You indeed know what we keep hidden and what we disclose; 38
and nothing escapes God, neither on earth nor in the sky. 38
Praise be to God, who has granted me, despite old age, Ismail and Ishaq!i 39
My Guardian indeed hears the call. 39
My Guardian, make me one who maintains the Contact, and of my progeny too;i 40
our Guardian, and accept my call. 40
Our Guardian, forgive me, and my two parents, and the believers, on the day the Reckoning stands up.i 41
And do not ever think that God is heedless of what the wrongdoers do: 42
He only defers them until a day when the gazes will be fixed, [people] rushing forward, heads raised, their gaze never returning to them, and their consciences will be void.i 43
And warn the people of the day the punishment will come to them, and those who were unjust will say: "Our Guardian, grant us a delay until a near term: we will answer Your call and follow the messengers." 44
"Had you not sworn, before, that you would know no decline?i 44
And you dwelt in the abodes of those who were unjust to themselves, and it became clear to you how We dealt with them, and We multiplied the examples for you."i 45
They indeed plotted their plot, 46
but their plot is [known] with God, 46
even if their plot were of a kind to make the mountains vanish. 46
So do not ever think that God fails His promise to His messengers: 47
God is All-Mighty, Possessor of retribution. 47
The Day the earth will be changed into another earth, and the heavens too, 48
and they will appear before God, the One, the Subjugator. 48
And you will see the severed, that Day, bound together in chains, their garments of tar, and the fire covering their faces, so that God may reward every Self according to what it earned:i 51
God is swift in reckoning. 51
This is a transmission for the people, so that they may be warned by it, know that He is but a single deity, and that those endowed with reason may remember.i 52
