Al-Mu'minun
Have Attained Success
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. The believers have attained success,
بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم قد أفلح ٱلمؤمنونthose who, in their Contact, are humble,
ٱلذين هم في صلاتهم خشعونand those who turn away from idle talk,
وٱلذين هم عن ٱللغو معرضونand those who fulfill the purifying alms,
وٱلذين هم للزكوة فعلونand those who guard their private parts, except with their spouses or those bound by pledge — for then they are indeed not blameworthy;
وٱلذين هم لفروجهم حفظون إلا على أزوجهم أو ما ملكت أيمنهم فإنهم غير ملومينwhoever seeks beyond that — those are the ones who cross the limits.
فمن ٱبتغى ورآء ذلك فأولئك هم ٱلعادونand those who are watchful over their trusts and their covenant,
وٱلذين هم لأمنتهم وعهدهم رعونAnd those who, toward their Contacts, are watchful — those are the inheritors, who will inherit Paradise,
وٱلذين هم على صلوتهم يحافظون أولئك هم ٱلورثون ٱلذين يرثون ٱلفردوسabiding therein eternally.
هم فيها خلدونWe created the human being from an extract of clay,
ولقد خلقنا ٱلإنسن من سللة من طينthen We made him a drop in a secure receptacle,
ثم جعلنه نطفة في قرار مكينthen We created from the drop a clinging form, then We created from the clinging form a lump, then We created from the lump bones, then We clothed the bones with flesh, then We brought it forth as another creation.
ثم خلقنا ٱلنطفة علقة فخلقنا ٱلعلقة مضغة فخلقنا ٱلمضغة عظما فكسونا ٱلعظم لحما ثم أنشأنه خلقا ءاخرBlessed is God, the best of creators!
فتبارك ٱلله أحسن ٱلخلقينThen, after that, you are destined to die,
ثم إنكم بعد ذلك لميتونthen, on the Day of Appearance, you will be resurrected.
ثم إنكم يوم ٱلقيمة تبعثونWe created above you seven passages,
ولقد خلقنا فوقكم سبع طرآئقand We have never been heedless of creation.
وما كنا عن ٱلخلق غفلينWe sent down from the sky water in due measure, and We settled it in the earth —
وأنزلنا من ٱلسمآء مآء بقدر فأسكنه في ٱلأرضand We are surely able to take it away.
وإنا على ذهاب به لقدرونWe thus brought forth for you, through it, gardens of palms and vines, wherein you have abundant fruits and from which you eat, and a tree that comes out of Mount Sinai, producing oil and a condiment for those who eat.
فأنشأنا لكم به جنت من نخيل وأعنب لكم فيها فوكه كثيرة ومنها تأكلون وشجرة تخرج من طور سينآء تنبت بٱلدهن وصبغ للءاكلينAnd there is surely, for you, a lesson in the cattle:
وإن لكم في ٱلأنعم لعبرةWe give you drink from what is in their bellies,
نسقيكم مما في بطونهاand you have in them many benefits, and you eat from them, and upon them as well as upon ships you are carried.
ولكم فيها منفع كثيرة ومنها تأكلون وعليها وعلى ٱلفلك تحملونWe sent Nuh to his people, and he said: O my people, obey God, you have no other deity than Him.
ولقد أرسلنا نوحا إلى قومه فقال يقوم ٱعبدوا ٱلله ما لكم من إله غيرهWill you not then guard yourselves?
أفلا تتقونThe court of his people, those who disowned, then said: This is nothing but a human like you, who wants to gain superiority over you; had God willed, He would have sent down Agents; we have not heard this among our first ancestors. He is nothing but a man afflicted with derangement — so wait concerning him for a while.
فقال ٱلملؤا ٱلذين كفروا من قومه ما هذآ إلا بشر مثلكم يريد أن يتفضل عليكم ولو شآء ٱلله لأنزل ملئكة ما سمعنا بهذا في ءابآئنا ٱلأولين إن هو إلا رجل به جنة فتربصوا به حتى حينHe said [Nuh]: My Guardian, help me, for they have denied me.
قال رب ٱنصرني بما كذبونWe then revealed to him: Build the ark under Our eyes and by Our revelation.
فأوحينآ إليه أن ٱصنع ٱلفلك بأعيننا ووحيناThen, when Our command comes and the oven boils over, put into it a pair of every kind, along with your family, except him among them against whom the word has already been pronounced;
فإذا جآء أمرنا وفار ٱلتنور فٱسلك فيها من كل زوجين ٱثنين وأهلك إلا من سبق عليه ٱلقول منهمand do not speak to Me about those who have been unjust: they will indeed be drowned.
ولا تخطبني في ٱلذين ظلموا إنهم مغرقونAnd when you are settled, you and those with you, upon the ark, say: Praise be to God who has saved us from the wrongdoing people.
فإذا ٱستويت أنت ومن معك على ٱلفلك فقل ٱلحمد لله ٱلذي نجىنا من ٱلقوم ٱلظلمينAnd say: My Guardian, grant me a blessed dwelling, for You are the best of those who grant a dwelling.
وقل رب أنزلني منزلا مباركا وأنت خير ٱلمنزلينThere are surely in that signs,
إن في ذلك لءايتand We were indeed putting [that people] to the test.
وإن كنا لمبتلينThen We brought forth, after them, another generation, and We sent among them a messenger, [one] of themselves: Obey God, you have no other deity than Him.
ثم أنشأنا من بعدهم قرنا ءاخرين فأرسلنا فيهم رسولا منهم أن ٱعبدوا ٱلله ما لكم من إله غيرهWill you not then guard yourselves?
أفلا تتقونThe court of his people, those who disowned and denied the meeting of the last life, and to whom We had given ease in the present life, said: This is nothing but a human like you, who eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink; and if you obey a human like you, you will then indeed be losers. Does he promise you that, once dead and become dust and bones, you will be raised up? Far, far indeed is what you are promised! There is nothing but our present life, we die and we live, and we will not be raised up! He is nothing but a man who has invented a lie against God, and we will not believe him.
وقال ٱلملأ من قومه ٱلذين كفروا وكذبوا بلقآء ٱلءاخرة وأترفنهم في ٱلحيوة ٱلدنيا ما هذآ إلا بشر مثلكم يأكل مما تأكلون منه ويشرب مما تشربون ولئن أطعتم بشرا مثلكم إنكم إذا لخسرون أيعدكم أنكم إذا متم وكنتم ترابا وعظما أنكم مخرجون هيهات هيهات لما توعدون إن هي إلا حياتنا ٱلدنيا نموت ونحيا وما نحن بمبعوثين إن هو إلا رجل ٱفترى على ٱلله كذبا وما نحن له بمؤمنينHe said [the messenger]: My Guardian, help me, for they have denied me.
قال رب ٱنصرني بما كذبونHe said [God]: A little while yet, and they will surely become full of regret.
قال عما قليل ليصبحن ندمينThe cry then seized them in all truth, and We made them into debris [scattered on the surface].
فأخذتهم ٱلصيحة بٱلحق فجعلنهم غثآءFar removed then be the wrongdoing people!
فبعدا للقوم ٱلظلمينThen We brought forth, after them, other generations.
ثم أنشأنا من بعدهم قرونا ءاخرينNo community precedes its term, nor does it delay it.
ما تسبق من أمة أجلها وما يستخرونThen We sent Our messengers, one after another.
ثم أرسلنا رسلنا تتراEvery time a messenger came to a community, it treated him as a liar;
كل ما جآء أمة رسولها كذبوهWe thus made them follow one another, and We made them into narrated tales.
فأتبعنا بعضهم بعضا وجعلنهم أحاديثFar removed then be a people that does not believe!
فبعدا لقوم لا يؤمنونThen We sent Moussa and his brother Harun, with Our signs and a clear authority, to Fir'awn and his court; but they swelled with pride and were a haughty people,
ثم أرسلنا موسى وأخاه هرون بايتنا وسلطن مبين إلى فرعون وملإيه فٱستكبروا وكانوا قوما عالينand they said: Shall we give credit to two humans like ourselves, while their people obey us?
فقالوا أنؤمن لبشرين مثلنا وقومهما لنا عبدونThey treated them as liars, and were thus among those annihilated.
فكذبوهما فكانوا من ٱلمهلكينWe gave Moussa the Scripture, that they might be guided.
ولقد ءاتينا موسى ٱلكتب لعلهم يهتدونAnd We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign,
وجعلنا ٱبن مريم وأمه ءايةand We sheltered them toward a height endowed with stability and a spring.
وءاوينهمآ إلى ربوة ذات قرار ومعينO messengers, eat of the good things and act righteously —
يأيها ٱلرسل كلوا من ٱلطيبت وٱعملوا صلحاI am indeed, of what you do, All-Knowing.
إني بما تعملون عليمAnd this community of yours is a single community,
وإن هذه أمتكم أمة وحدةand I am your Guardian: so guard yourselves toward Me.
وأنا ربكم فٱتقونBut they split, concerning their affair, into divided factions,
فتقطعوا أمرهم بينهم زبراeach party rejoicing in what it holds.
كل حزب بما لديهم فرحونSo leave them in their blindness, for a while.
فذرهم في غمرتهم حتى حينDo they think that, what We grant them of goods and children, We hasten toward them with good things?
أيحسبون أنما نمدهم به من مال وبنين نسارع لهم في ٱلخيرتNo, they do not perceive.
بل لا يشعرونThose who, out of reverent awe of their Guardian, are watchful, and those who believe in the signs of their Guardian, and those who associate nothing with their Guardian, and those who give what they give, their core trembling [at the thought] that they are returning to their Guardian — those hasten toward good things,
إن ٱلذين هم من خشية ربهم مشفقون وٱلذين هم بايت ربهم يؤمنون وٱلذين هم بربهم لا يشركون وٱلذين يؤتون مآ ءاتوا وقلوبهم وجلة أنهم إلى ربهم رجعون أولئك يسرعون في ٱلخيرتand they are foremost in that.
وهم لها سبقونAnd We do not burden a Self beyond its capacity,
ولا نكلف نفسا إلا وسعهاand We have a record that speaks with truth, and they will not be wronged.
ولدينا كتب ينطق بٱلحق وهم لا يظلمونBut their core is in a [dark] blindness about this,
بل قلوبهم في غمرة من هذاand they have, apart from that, deeds
ولهم أعمل من دون ذلكwhich they will continue to commit —
هم لها عملونuntil, when We seize their privileged ones with punishment, there they are, crying out in distress.
حتى إذآ أخذنا مترفيهم بٱلعذاب إذا هم يجرونDo not cry out today,
لا تجروا ٱليومyou will indeed not be helped by Us.
إنكم منا لا تنصرونMy signs were indeed recited to you, and you turned back on your heels, swelling with pride about them,
قد كانت ءايتي تتلى عليكم فكنتم على أعقبكم تنكصون مستكبرين بهconversing by night, you spoke outrageously.
سمرا تهجرونHave they then not pondered the word, or has there come to them what did not come to their first ancestors?
أفلم يدبروا ٱلقول أم جآءهم ما لم يأت ءابآءهم ٱلأولينOr did they not recognize their messenger, to the point that they disavow him?
أم لم يعرفوا رسولهم فهم له منكرونOr do they say that he is afflicted with derangement?
أم يقولون به جنةNo, he has come to them with the truth,
بل جآءهم بٱلحقbut most of them have an aversion to the truth.
وأكثرهم للحق كرهونAnd had the truth followed their emotions, the heavens, the earth, and those therein would have been corrupted.
ولو ٱتبع ٱلحق أهوآءهم لفسدت ٱلسموت وٱلأرض ومن فيهنNo, We have brought them their own Reminder,
بل أتينهم بذكرهمbut they turn away from their Reminder.
فهم عن ذكرهم معرضونOr do you ask them for a tribute?
أم تسلهم خرجاThe tribute of your Guardian is better,
فخراج ربك خيرand He is the best of providers.
وهو خير ٱلرزقينAnd you surely call them toward a straight path;
وإنك لتدعوهم إلى صرط مستقيمbut those who do not believe in the last life surely deviate from that path.
وإن ٱلذين لا يؤمنون بٱلءاخرة عن ٱلصرط لنكبونAnd if We had benevolence on them and removed from them the harm that afflicts them, they would persist in wandering blindly in their excess.
ولو رحمنهم وكشفنا ما بهم من ضر للجوا في طغينهم يعمهونWe did seize them with punishment, yet they did not submit to their Guardian, nor did they humbly plead,
ولقد أخذنهم بٱلعذاب فما ٱستكانوا لربهم وما يتضرعونuntil, when We open upon them a gate of severe punishment, there they are, in despair.
حتى إذا فتحنا عليهم بابا ذا عذاب شديد إذا هم فيه مبلسونAnd He is the One who brought forth for you hearing, sight, and Consciences.
وهو ٱلذي أنشأ لكم ٱلسمع وٱلأبصر وٱلأفدةHow little you are grateful!
قليلا ما تشكرونAnd He is the One who has scattered you upon the earth, and it is to Him that you will be gathered.
وهو ٱلذي ذرأكم في ٱلأرض وإليه تحشرونAnd He is the One who gives life and gives death,
وهو ٱلذي يحي ويميتand to Him belongs the alternation of night and day.
وله ٱختلف ٱليل وٱلنهارWill you not then reason?
أفلا تعقلونBut they said the same thing that the ancients used to say; they said: Is it that, once dead and become dust and bones, we will be resurrected?
بل قالوا مثل ما قال ٱلأولون قالوا أءذا متنا وكنا ترابا وعظما أءنا لمبعوثونWe were promised this, we and our ancestors, before already;
لقد وعدنا نحن وءابآؤنا هذا من قبلthis is nothing but legends of the ancients.
إن هذآ إلآ أسطير ٱلأولينSay: To whom belongs the earth and what is in it, if you know? They will say: To God.
قل لمن ٱلأرض ومن فيهآ إن كنتم تعلمون سيقولون للهSay: Will you not then remember?
قل أفلا تذكرونSay: Who is the Guardian of the seven heavens and the Guardian of the immense Edifice?
قل من رب ٱلسموت ٱلسبع ورب ٱلعرش ٱلعظيمThey will say: To God.
سيقولون للهSay: Will you not then guard yourselves?
قل أفلا تتقونSay: Who holds in His hand the sovereign dominion of everything, who protects and against whom none can be protected, if you know? They will say: To God.
قل من بيده ملكوت كل شىء وهو يجير ولا يجار عليه إن كنتم تعلمون سيقولون للهSay: How then are you abused by illusion?
قل فأنى تسحرونNo, We have brought them the truth,
بل أتينهم بٱلحقand they are surely liars.
وإنهم لكذبونGod has taken no child,
ما ٱتخذ ٱلله من ولدand there was with Him no deity —
وما كان معه من إلهotherwise, each deity would have gone off with what it created, and some would have risen above others.
إذا لذهب كل إله بما خلق ولعلا بعضهم على بعضGlory be to God, above what they describe!
سبحن ٱلله عما يصفونKnower of what escapes the senses and of what is manifest,
علم ٱلغيب وٱلشهدةHe is far above what they associate with Him.
فتعلى عما يشركونSay: My Guardian, if You show me what they are promised, then, my Guardian, do not place me among the wrongdoing people.
قل رب إما تريني ما يوعدون رب فلا تجعلني في ٱلقوم ٱلظلمينAnd We are surely able to show you what We promise them.
وإنا على أن نريك ما نعدهم لقدرونRepel evil with what is better —
ٱدفع بٱلتي هي أحسن ٱلسيئةWe know best what they describe.
نحن أعلم بما يصفونAnd say: My Guardian, I take refuge with You from the incitements of the Diverters, and I take refuge with You, my Guardian, against their being present with me.
وقل رب أعوذ بك من همزت ٱلشيطين وأعوذ بك رب أن يحضرونUntil, when death comes to one of them, he says: My Guardian, send me back, that I may act righteously in that which I left. By no means!
حتى إذا جآء أحدهم ٱلموت قال رب ٱرجعون لعلي أعمل صلحا فيما تركت كلآIt is indeed a word that he utters [in vain],
إنها كلمة هو قآئلهاand behind them there is a barrier, until the day they are resurrected.
ومن ورآئهم برزخ إلى يوم يبعثونThen, when the Horn is blown, there will be no ties of lineage between them that day, and they will not question one another.
فإذا نفخ في ٱلصور فلآ أنساب بينهم يومئذ ولا يتسآءلونThose whose weights are heavy — those are the ones who succeed;
فمن ثقلت موزينه فأولئك هم ٱلمفلحونAnd those whose weights are light — those are the ones who have lost their own Self, abiding eternally in Jahannam; the fire will scorch their faces, and they will grimace therein.
ومن خفت موزينه فأولئك ٱلذين خسروا أنفسهم في جهنم خلدون تلفح وجوههم ٱلنار وهم فيها كلحونWere My signs not recited to you, and you denied them?
ألم تكن ءايتي تتلى عليكم فكنتم بها تكذبونThey will say: Our Guardian, our misery overcame us, and we were an astray people.
قالوا ربنا غلبت علينا شقوتنا وكنا قوما ضآلينOur Guardian, bring us out of it; if we relapse, we will then [truly] be wrongdoers.
ربنآ أخرجنا منها فإن عدنا فإنا ظلمونHe will say: Remain therein, humiliated, and do not speak to Me.
قال ٱخسوا فيها ولا تكلمونThere was a group among My obedient ones who said: Our Guardian, we believe; forgive us and have benevolence on us, for You are the best of those who show benevolence — but you took them in mockery, until they made you forget My Reminder, and you used to laugh at them.
إنه كان فريق من عبادي يقولون ربنآ ءامنا فٱغفر لنا وٱرحمنا وأنت خير ٱلرحمين فٱتخذتموهم سخريا حتى أنسوكم ذكري وكنتم منهم تضحكونI have this day recompensed them for their endurance: it is they who are the triumphant.
إني جزيتهم ٱليوم بما صبروا أنهم هم ٱلفآئزونHe will say: How many years did you remain on the earth?
قل كم لبثتم في ٱلأرض عدد سنينThey will say: We remained a day,
قالوا لبثنا يوماor part of a day; so ask those who keep count.
أو بعض يوم فسل ٱلعآدينHe will say: You remained only a little, if only you knew.
قل إن لبثتم إلا قليلا لو أنكم كنتم تعلمونDid you then think that We created you in vain, and that you would not be returned to Us?
أفحسبتم أنما خلقنكم عبثا وأنكم إلينا لا ترجعونExalted be God, the Sovereign, the Truth!
فتعلى ٱلله ٱلملك ٱلحقThere is no deity but Him,
لآ إله إلا هوthe Guardian of the generous Edifice.
رب ٱلعرش ٱلكريمAnd whoever invokes, with God, another deity, having no proof of it, his account rests only with his Guardian.
ومن يدع مع ٱلله إلها ءاخر لا برهن له به فإنما حسابه عند ربهThose who disown do not attain success.
إنه لا يفلح ٱلكفرونAnd say: My Guardian, forgive and have benevolence, for You are the best of those who show benevolence.
وقل رب ٱغفر وٱرحم وأنت خير ٱلرحمين
