۞
An-Naml
-
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Ta. Sin.i 1
These are the signs of the Recitation and an explicit Scripture,i 1
guidance and glad tiding for the believers, those who maintain the Contact and give the alms, and who, as for the hereafter, are certain of it.i 3
Those who do not believe in the hereafter, We have made their deeds seem fair to them, and they wander blindly. 4
Those are the ones for whom the worst punishment is due, and it is they, in the hereafter, who will be the greatest losers. 5
And you, you receive the Recitation from a Wise, a Knowing.i 6
When Moussa said to his family: 'I have perceived a fire; I will bring you news of it, or bring you a burning brand, so that you may warm yourselves.'i 7
When he came to it, he was called: 'Blessed is he who is in the fire, and he who is around it! 8
Glory to God, Guardian of all beings!i 8
O Moussa, it is I, God, the All-Powerful, the Wise. Throw down your staff.'i 10
When he saw it vibrate as though it were an Occulted, he turned back in flight and did not return.i 10
'O Moussa, do not fear;i 10
as for Me, the messengers do not fear in My presence, 10
except one who has done wrong, then replaced evil with good; then, indeed, I am forgiving, the Benevolent. 11
Put your hand into your collar: it will come out white, without any harm, 12
among nine signs, to Fir'awn and his people;i 12
they are indeed a people of oversteppers.'i 12
When Our signs came to them, plainly visible, they said: 'This is an explicit illusion.' 13
And they rejected them, while their own selves were certain of them, out of injustice and arrogance. 14
So look at what was the end of those who spread corruption. 14
And We certainly gave Dawud and Sulayman knowledge; and both said: 'Praise be to God, who has favored us above many of His believing obedient ones.'i 15
And Sulayman inherited from Dawud, and he said: 'O people, we have been taught the language of birds, and we have been given a share of everything;i 16
this is indeed the explicit favor.' 16
And Sulayman's troops were gathered for him, among the Occulted, humans and birds, and they were arranged in ranks.i 17
Until, when they came to the valley of the ants, an ant said: 'O ants, enter your dwellings, lest Sulayman and his troops crush you without perceiving it.'i 18
He smiled, amused at her words, and said: 'My Guardian, inspire me to acknowledge the blessing You have granted me and my parents, and to do righteous work that pleases You, and admit me, by Your benevolence, among Your righteous obedient ones.'i 19
He reviewed the birds, and said: 'Why do I not see the hoopoe? Is she among the absent? 20
I will certainly punish her with a severe punishment, or I will slaughter her, unless she brings me an explicit justification.' 21
She did not stay away long, 22
and said [the hoopoe]: 'I have grasped what you have not grasped, and I bring you from Saba a certain report. 22
I found a woman ruling over them, who has been given everything,i 23
And she has an immense Edifice. 23
I found her and her people prostrating before the sun, besides God; and the Diverter has made their deeds seem fair to them, and thus turned them from the path, so that they are not guided, so that they do not prostrate before God, who brings forth what is hidden in the heavens and the earth, and who knows what they conceal and what they disclose.i 25
God, there is no god but Him, the Guardian of the immense Edifice.i 26
He said [Sulayman]: 'We shall see whether you have spoken truly, or are among the liars.i 27
Go with this letter of mine, cast it to them, then withdraw from them, and see what they send back.'i 28
She said [the Queen of Saba]: 'O court, a noble letter has been cast to me. It is from Sulayman, and it reads: In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent; do not exalt yourselves against me, and come to me as those true to God alone.'i 31
She said [the Queen of Saba]: 'O court, advise me on my affair; I do not decide any affair without you bearing witness to it.' 32
They said [the queen's court]: 'We are possessors of strength and possessors of formidable might, but the affair is yours to decide; so consider what you command.' 33
She said [the Queen of Saba]: 'Kings, when they enter a city, corrupt it, and reduce the noble among its people to humiliation;i 34
and thus they act. 34
Now, I am going to send them a gift, and see what the envoys bring back.' 35
When it came to Sulayman, he said: 'Do you wish to aid me with wealth? What God has given me is better than what He has given you; it is you rather who rejoice in your gift.i 36
Go back to them: we shall certainly come to them with troops they cannot withstand, and we shall certainly drive them out from it, humbled and diminished.' 37
He said [Sulayman]: 'O court, which of you will bring me her Edifice before they come to me true to God alone?'i 38
An ifrit among the Occulted said: 'I will bring it to you before you rise from your place; and I am capable of it, trustworthy.'i 39
The one who possessed knowledge of the Code said: 'I will bring it to you before even your glance returns to you.'i 40
When he saw it placed beside him, he said: 'This is from the favor of my Guardian, to test me: will I acknowledge, or will I deny?i 40
And whoever acknowledges, does so only for himself, 40
and whoever denies, my Guardian is indeed self-sufficient, generous.' 40
He said [Sulayman]: 'Make her Edifice unrecognizable to her; we shall see whether she is guided, or is among those who are not guided.'i 41
When she arrived, it was said: 'Is your Edifice like this?' She said: 'It is as if it were. 42
And knowledge had been given to us before her, and we were true to God alone.' 42
And what she used to obey, besides God, had turned her away; 43
she indeed belonged to a people who deny. 43
It was said to her [by Sulayman]: 'Enter the palace.'i 44
When she saw it, she took it for a pool of water, and bared her legs. 44
He said [Sulayman]: 'It is a polished palace, made of crystal.'i 44
She said [the Queen of Saba]: 'My Guardian, I have wronged myself, and I devote myself, with Sulayman, to God, Guardian of all beings.'i 44
And We certainly sent to the Depleters [Thamud] their brother Salih: 'Obey God'; and behold, two camps disputing.i 45
He said [Salih]: 'O my people, why do you hasten evil before good? Will you not seek God's forgiveness, so that He may show you benevolence?'i 46
They said [Thamud's people]: 'We see an evil omen in you and in those with you.' 47
He said [Salih]: 'Your omen is with God;i 47
you are rather a people being tried.' 47
And there were in the Capital nine individuals who spread corruption on the earth and set nothing right.i 48
They said: 'Swear to one another by God that we will attack him by night, him and his family, then we will certainly say to his legal guardian: We did not witness the destruction of his family, and we are certainly truthful.'i 49
They devised a scheme, and We devised a scheme, without their perceiving it. 50
So look at what was the outcome of their scheme: 51
We destroyed them, and their people, all together. 51
So there are their houses, deserted because of their injustice. 52
In that, there is indeed a sign for a people who know. 52
And We saved those who had believed and guarded themselves. 53
And Lut, when he said to his people: 'Do you commit indecency while you see clearly?i 54
You approach, out of desire, men, instead of women; 55
you are rather a people who persist in ignorance.' 55
The only response of his people was to say: 'Expel the family of Lut from your city;i 56
these are people who want to keep themselves pure.' 56
So We saved him, and his family, except his wife; We had determined that she would be among those who stayed behind. 57
And We rained down upon them a rain; 58
how evil was the rain of those who had been warned! 58
Say: 'Praise be to God, and peace upon His obedient ones whom He has chosen. 59
Is God better, or what you associate?'i 59
Is it not He who created the heavens and the earth, and who sent down for you, from the sky, water by which We caused gardens full of delight to grow, 60
without it being possible for you to make their trees grow? 60
Is there a god alongside God? 60
They are rather a people who deviate.i 60
Is it not He who made the earth a stable place, placed rivers within it, gave it firmly anchored mountains, and set between the two seas a barrier? 61
Is there a god alongside God? 61
But most of them do not know. 61
Is it not He who answers the one in distress, when he calls upon Him, who removes evil, and who makes you successors on the earth? 62
Is there a god alongside God? 62
How little you remember! 62
Is it not He who guides you in the darknesses of land and sea, and who sends the winds, which disperse, before His benevolence?i 63
Is there a god alongside God? 63
How exalted is God above what they associate! 63
Is it not He who originates creation, then remakes it, and who provides for you from the sky and the earth?i 64
Is there a god alongside God? 64
Say: 'Bring your proof, if you are truthful.' 64
Say: 'None, in the heavens and on the earth, knows what escapes the senses, except God;i 65
and they do not perceive when they will be resurrected. 65
But rather, their knowledge has reached its limit regarding the hereafter;i 66
they are rather in doubt about it, they are rather blind to it. 66
And those who deny said: "When we are earth, we and our ancestors, will we really be brought out?i 67
We have indeed been promised this, we and our ancestors, before;i 68
these are nothing but legends of the ancients.' 68
Say: 'Travel the earth, and see what was the end of the severed.' 69
And do not grieve for them, and do not be in distress because of what they scheme. 70
And they say: 'When then is this promise, if you are truthful?' 71
Say: 'It may be that some of what you seek to hasten is very close behind you.' 72
And your Guardian is indeed possessed of favor toward people, 73
but most of them do not acknowledge.i 73
And your Guardian certainly knows what their chests conceal and what they disclose. 74
And there is nothing hidden in the sky and the earth that is not in an explicit record.i 75
This Recitation indeed relates to the Children of Israel most of what they differ about.i 76
And it is indeed guidance and benevolence for the believers. 77
Your Guardian indeed judges between them by His judgment, 78
and it is He, the All-Powerful, the Knowing. 78
Take then God as mandatory,i 79
for you are indeed upon the explicit truth. 79
You do not make the dead hear, nor do you make the deaf hear the call, when they turn their backs in retreat. 80
Nor are you the one who guides the blind out of their error; 81
you make hear only him who believes in Our signs, and those are true to God alone.i 81
And when the word is fulfilled against them, We will bring forth for them a conscious being, from the earth, who will speak to them,i 82
because people had no certainty regarding Our signs. 82
And the day when We gather, from every community, a group among those who deny Our signs, they will be marshaled in ranks, 83
until, when they arrive, it will be said: 'Did you deny My signs, without having encompassed them in knowledge? 84
Or what then were you doing?' 84
And the word will be fulfilled against them because of their injustice, and they will not speak. 85
Do they not see that We made the night for them to rest in, and the day for them to see clearly? 86
In that, there are indeed signs for a people who believe. 86
And the day the trumpet is blown, those in the heavens and those on the earth will be seized with terror, except him whom God wills to spare; 87
and all will come to Him, humbled. 87
And you see the mountains, you think them fixed, while they pass as the clouds pass: 88
the work of God, who has perfected everything. 88
He is indeed well informed of what you do. 88
Whoever comes with good will have better than it, and those will be, that day, safe from terror. 89
And whoever comes with evil, then their faces will be tumbled into the fire. 90
Will you be recompensed otherwise than according to what you used to do? 90
[The Prophet speaks]: 'I have only been ordered to obey the Guardian of this land, which He has made inviolable, and to whom belongs everything; 91
and I have been ordered to be among those true to God alone, and to recite the Recitation.'i 92
Whoever is guided, is guided only for himself, 92
and whoever goes astray, say then: 'I am only one of the warners.' 92
And say: 'Praise be to God; He will show you His signs, and you will recognize them.' 93
And your Guardian is not inattentive to what you do. 93
