۞
Al-Ankabut
-
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Alif. Lam. Mim.i 1
Do the people think that it will be enough for them to say, "We believe," without being put to the test? 2
We have indeed put to the test those who came before them, 3
so that God will surely distinguish those who have spoken truly, and will surely distinguish the liars. 3
Do those who commit evil deeds think that they will outrun Us? 4
How bad their judgment is! 4
Whoever hopes for the meeting with God — the term set by God will surely come; 5
and it is He, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. 5
Whoever strives, strives only for himself, 6
for God is entirely without need of all beings.i 6
Those who have believed and done what is right — We will surely cover their bad deeds, and We will surely reward them according to the best of what they used to do. 7
We have enjoined upon the human being kindness toward his two parents; 8
but if they force you to associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them; 8
to Me will be your return, and I will then inform you of what you used to do. 8
Those who have believed and done what is right — We will surely make them enter among the righteous. 9
Among the people are some who say, "We believe in God," yet when they are made to suffer for God's cause, they equate the trial inflicted by people with God's punishment. 10
But if help comes from your Guardian, they will surely say, "We were with you." 10
Does God not know best what is in the chests of all beings? 10
God will surely distinguish those who have believed, and will surely distinguish the hypocrites. 11
Those who deny said to those who believed: "Follow our way, and we will carry your faults" — 12
though they will carry nothing of their faults; 12
they are surely liars. 12
They will surely carry their own burdens, and burdens in addition to their burdens; 13
and they will surely be questioned, on the Day of Appearance, about what they used to invent.i 13
We sent Nuh to his people; he remained among them a thousand years, less fifty conventional years, then the flood seized them while they were unjust.i 14
We saved him, along with the companions of the vessel, 15
and We made it a sign for all beings. 15
And Ibrahim, when he said to his people: "Obey God and guard yourselves toward Him;i 16
that is better for you, if only you knew. 16
You obey, apart from God, only idols, and you fabricate a falsehood; 17
those you obey apart from God hold no provision for you — 17
so seek provision with God, 17
obey Him, 17
and be thankful to Him; 17
to Him you will be brought back. 17
And if you deny, communities before you have already denied; 18
the messenger is charged with nothing but clear transmission." 18
Do they not see how God initiates creation, 19
then remakes it? 19
That is easy for God. 19
Say: "Travel through the land and see how He initiated creation; 20
then God will bring forth the ultimate emergence; 20
God is capable of all things." 20
He punishes whom He wills and shows benevolence to whom He wills; 21
and to Him you will be turned back. 21
You cannot render [Him] powerless anywhere, neither on earth nor in the sky; 22
and you have, apart from God, neither protector nor helper. 22
Those who deny the signs of God and the meeting with Him — those despair of My benevolence, 23
and those will have a painful punishment. 23
The only answer of his people was to say: "Kill him, or burn him!" 24
But God saved him from the fire; 24
there are indeed signs in that for a people who believe. 24
He said: "You have taken idols, apart from God, only out of mutual affection among yourselves in the present life; 25
then, on the Day of Appearance, you will deny one another and curse one another,i 25
and your refuge will be the Fire, and you will have no helpers." 25
Lut believed in him,i 26
and [Ibrahim] said: "I am emigrating toward my Guardian;i 26
He is the All-Powerful, the Wise." 26
We granted him Ishaq and Yaacoub,i 27
and We placed in his line the prophethood and the Scripture;i 27
We gave him his reward in the present life, 27
and he will surely be, in the hereafter, among the righteous. 27
And Lut, when he said to his people: "You surely commit indecency such as no one among all beings has committed before you; do you really approach men, cut off the road [to travelers], and commit, in your gatherings, what is disavowed?"i 29
The only answer of his people was to say: "Bring us God's punishment, if you are among the truthful!" 29
He said: "Guardian, help me against the people who spread corruption." 30
When Our envoys came to Ibrahim with the good news, they said: "We are going to destroy the people of this city; its people are truly unjust."i 31
He said: "But Lut is there."i 32
They said: "We know best who is there; 32
we will surely save him and his household, except his wife, who will be among those who remain behind." 32
When Our envoys came to Lut, he was distressed for them and felt helpless on their account;i 33
they said: "Fear nothing and do not grieve; we will save you and your household, except your wife, who will be among those who remain behind. 33
We will bring down upon the people of this city a torment from the sky, for their overstepping." 34
We left of it a clear sign, for a people who reason. 35
And to Madian, their brother Shu'ayb; he said: "O my people, obey God, hope for the Last Day, and do not spread disorder on the earth through corruption." 36
They denied him; so the earthquake seized them, and they were left lifeless, face down, in their dwelling. 37
And the Recidivists [Aad] and the Depleters [Thamud] — this has become clear to you through their dwellings; the Diverter had embellished their deeds to them and turned them away from the path, though they had clear sight.i 38
And Qaroon, Fir'awn, and Haman —i 39
Moussa had indeed come to them with clear proofs, but they swelled with pride in the land, unable to outrun Us.i 39
Each of them We seized for his wrong; 40
upon some of them We sent a hail of stones, 40
some were seized by the Cry, 40
some We caused the earth to swallow, 40
and still others We drowned. 40
God was not going to wrong them; 40
but it was themselves that they wronged. 40
The example of those who take, apart from God, protectors, is that of the spider that builds itself a dwelling; 41
and the flimsiest of dwellings is indeed the dwelling of the spider — if only they knew. 41
God knows all that they invoke apart from Him;i 42
He is the All-Powerful, the Wise. 42
These are the examples We put forth for the people, 43
but only those with knowledge grasp them with reason. 43
God created the heavens and the earth in truth; 44
there is indeed a sign in that for the believers. 44
Recite what has been revealed to you of the Scripture, and maintain the Contact;i 45
the Contact turns one away from indecency and from what is disavowed; 45
and the remembrance of God is greater still; 45
God knows what you do. 45
Do not argue with the People of the Writ except in the best way,i 46
except with those of them who commit injustice; 46
and say: "We believe in what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to you; our God and your God is one, and to Him we are true." 46
Thus have We sent down the Scripture to you;i 47
those to whom We gave the Scripture believe in it, and among these [others], some believe in it too;i 47
only those who deny stubbornly reject Our signs. 47
You did not recite, before it, any scripture, nor did you trace one with your right hand;i 48
otherwise, those who champion falsehood would have had doubts. 48
Rather, it is clear signs in the chests of those to whom knowledge has been given; 49
only the unjust stubbornly reject Our signs. 49
They said: "Why were signs not sent down to him from his Guardian?" 50
Say: "The signs are only with God; I am only a clear warner." 50
Is it not enough for them that We have sent down to you the Scripture, which is recited to them?i 51
There is indeed a benevolence and a reminder in that for a people who believe. 51
Say: "God suffices as a witness between me and you; 52
He knows what is in the heavens and the earth; 52
and those who believe in falsehood and deny God — those are the losers." 52
They urge you to hasten the punishment; 53
were it not for a set term, the punishment would already have come to them — it will surely come to them suddenly, without their being aware. 53
They urge you to hasten the punishment, 54
while Jahannam surely encompasses those who deny. 54
The day the punishment envelops them from above and from beneath their feet, and He says: "Taste what you used to do." 55
"O My obedient ones who have believed, My earth is vast; so obey Me, and Me alone." 56
Every Self will taste death, 57
then to Us you will be brought back. 57
Those who have believed and done what is right — We will surely settle them in lofty chambers of the Garden, beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever; 58
what an excellent reward for those who work, 58
those who have endured and who take their Guardian as their agent. 59
How many a living being does not carry its own provision! It is God who feeds it, and you along with it; 60
it is He, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. 60
If you ask them who created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon, they will surely say: "God"; 61
how then are they turned away [from the truth]? 61
God spreads out provision to whom He wills among His obedient ones, and restricts it for him too; 62
God knows all things. 62
And if you ask them who sends down water from the sky and gives life through it to the earth after its death, they will surely say: "God"; 63
say: "Praise be to God!" 63
But most of them do not reason. 63
This present life is nothing but distraction and play; 64
and the ultimate abode, that is the true life — if only they knew. 64
When they board a ship, they call upon God, devoting the Law to Him exclusively; 65
but when He brings them safely to dry land, there they are, associating [others with Him], so as to deny what We have given them, 66
and to enjoy [life] — but they will soon know. 66
Do they not see that We have established a secure sanctuary, while all around them people are being snatched away [by violence]? 67
Do they then believe in falsehood, and deny the blessing of God? 67
And who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against God, or denies the truth once it has come to him? 68
Is there not, in Jahannam, a dwelling for those who deny? 68
Those who have striven for Us — We will surely guide them on Our ways; 69
and God is surely with those who do good. 69
