۞
Saba
-
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Praise be to God, to whom belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth,i 1
and to Him belongs praise in the Hereafter. 1
He is the Wise, the Aware. 1
He knows what enters into the earth and what comes out of it, what descends from the sky and what ascends into it. 2
He is the Benevolent, the Great Forgiver. 2
Those who deny have said, "The Hour will not come to us." 3
Say, "Yes indeed, by my Guardian, it will surely come to you — 3
Knower of what escapes the senses, from whom nothing escapes, not the weight of a grain, in the heavens or on the earth,i 3
nor anything smaller or greater than that, without it being in a clear record — so that He may reward those who believed and did righteous deeds."i 4
Those will have forgiveness and generous provision. 4
But those who strove against Our signs, seeking to thwart them, those will have a punishment of painful filth. 5
And those who were given knowledge see that what has been revealed to you from your Guardian is the truth, and it guides to the path of the All-Powerful, the Praiseworthy. 6
And those who deny have said, "Shall we point you to a man who will inform you that, once you have been utterly disintegrated, you will be in a new creation? 7
Has he invented a lie against God, or is he afflicted with some derangement?"i 8
No — those who do not believe in the Hereafter are in punishment and far-reaching error. 8
Have they not looked at what is before them and what is behind them, of the sky and the earth? 9
If We willed, We could make the earth swallow them, or make fragments of the sky fall upon them. 9
There is certainly in that a sign for every the obedient one who turns [to God]. 9
And We certainly gave Dawud a favor from Us: "O mountains, echo [Our praise] with him, and the birds [as well]."i 10
And We softened the iron for him: "Make full coats of mail, and measure well the links,i 11
and do righteous deeds: 11
I am, of what you do, All-Seeing." 11
And to Sulayman [We subjected] the wind: its outward course was a month's journey, and its return course was a month's journey.i 12
And We made flow for him a spring of naphtha.i 12
And among the Occulted were some who worked before him, by the permission of his Guardian;i 12
and whoever among them deviated from Our command, We made him taste the punishment of the Blaze. 12
They made for him whatever he wished of sanctuaries, statues, basins like great reservoirs, and cauldrons cast to their full measure, firmly anchored.i 13
"Work, family of Dawud,i 13
in gratitude" — 13
but few of My obedient ones are grateful. 13
Then when We decreed death upon him, nothing informed them of his death except a creature of the earth eating away his staff; 14
and when he fell, it became clear to the Occulted that, had they known what escapes our presence, they would not have remained in the humiliating punishment.i 14
There was certainly for Saba' a sign in their dwelling place: 15
two gardens, on the right and on the left. 15
"Eat from the provision of your Guardian, and be grateful to Him: 15
a good land, and a forgiving Guardian." 15
But they turned away, so We sent upon them the destructive flood of the dam,i 16
and We replaced their two gardens with two gardens bearing bitter fruit, tamarisk, and a few lote trees. 16
That is how We repaid them for what they denied — 17
and is anyone repaid, except the great denier?i 17
And We had placed between them and the cities that We had blessed, cities clearly visible, and We had measured the journey between them: 18
"Travel between them by nights and days, in safety." 18
But they said, "Our Guardian, lengthen the distances between our journeys" — and they wronged themselves; so We made them into cautionary tales, and We disintegrated them utterly. 19
There are certainly in that signs for every patient, grateful being. 19
And the Despairing One [Iblis] had certainly confirmed his assumption about them, and they followed him, except a party of the believers.i 20
And he had no authority over them, except that We might distinguish who believes in the Hereafter from who is in doubt about it. 21
And your Guardian watches over all things. 21
Say, "Call upon those you claim [to be gods] besides God: 22
they do not possess the weight of an atom, in the heavens or on the earth, 22
and they have no share in either, 22
nor does He have among them any supporter." 22
And intercession does not benefit [anyone] with Him, except for one to whom He has given permission, 23
until, when fear is lifted from their cores, they say, "What did your Guardian say?" They will say, "The truth." 23
And He is the Most High, the Great. 23
Say, "Who provides for you from the heavens and the earth?" Say, "God. 24
And indeed, either we or you are upon guidance, or in manifest error." 24
Say: "You will not be questioned about our severance, nor will we be questioned about what you do." 25
Say, "Our Guardian will gather us together, then He will judge between us in truth, 26
and He is the Decider, the All-Knowing."i 26
Say, "Show me those you have attached to Him as partners. No — 27
He is rather God, the All-Powerful, the Wise." 27
And We have not sent you except to all mankind, a bearer of good news and a warner, 28
but most people do not know. 28
And they say, "When will this promise be, if you are truthful?" 29
Say, "You have the appointment of a Day you can neither delay nor advance by a single hour." 30
And those who deny have said, "We will never believe in this Recitation, nor in what came before it." 31
If only you could see when the wrongdoers are made to stand before their Guardian, throwing the word back at one another — 31
those who were deemed weak will say to those who were arrogant, "Had it not been for you, we would have been believers." 31
Those who were arrogant will say to those who were deemed weak, "Was it we who turned you away from guidance after it had come to you? No — you were rather severed." 32
And those who were deemed weak will say to those who were arrogant, "It was rather your scheming, night and day, when you commanded us to conceal God and to set up equals to Him." 33
And they will conceal their regret when they see the punishment. 33
And We will place shackles on the necks of those who denied: 33
will they be repaid except according to what they used to do? 33
And We have not sent into any city a warner without its affluent ones saying, "We deny what you have been sent with." 34
And they said, "We have more wealth and children, and we will not be punished." 35
Say, "My Guardian extends provision to whom He wills, and restricts [it]; 36
but most people do not know." 36
And it is not your wealth or your children that bring you nearer to Us in closeness — except for one who believed and did righteous deeds: those will have a doubled reward for what they did, and they will be secure in the elevated chambers. 37
But those who strove against Our signs, seeking to thwart them, those will be brought into the punishment. 38
Say, "My Guardian extends provision to whom He wills among His obedient ones, and restricts it for him; 39
and whatever you spend of anything, He replaces it, 39
and He is the best of providers." 39
And the Day We will gather them all together, then We will say to the Agents, "Was it you these used to obey?"i 40
they will say, "Glory be to You! You are our ally, not them: 41
they were rather obeying the Occulted;i 41
most of them believed in them." 41
That Day, none of you will have power to benefit or harm another, and We will say to those who did wrong, "Taste the punishment of the Fire that you used to deny." 42
And when Our verses are recited to them, clear, they say, "This is nothing but a man who wants to turn you away from what your ancestors used to obey"; and they say, "This is nothing but a fabricated lie." 43
And those who deny say of the truth when it comes to them, "This is nothing but manifest illusion." 43
And We had not given them any writings that they studied, 44
nor had We sent them, before you, any warner. 44
And those before them denied — these have not attained a tenth of what We had given [the former] — 45
and they denied My messengers. 45
How great was My rejection! 45
Say, "I only exhort you to one thing: 46
that you stand up for God, two by two or one by one, then reflect — 46
your companion has no derangement; 46
he is only a warner for you, before a severe punishment." 46
Say, "Whatever reward I have asked of you, it is for you; 47
my reward falls only upon God, 47
and He is, over all things, a witness." 47
Say, "My Guardian projects the truth, 48
He is the great Knower of what escapes the senses."i 48
Say, "The truth has come, and falsehood can neither begin nor return." 49
Say, "If I stray, I stray only against myself; and if I am guided, it is by what my Guardian reveals to me — 50
He hears, He is near." 50
And if only you could see when they are seized with terror, with no escape, and they are seized from a place nearby — 51
they will say, "We believe in it!" 52
But how could they reach, from so distant a place, what they had denied before?i 53
And they cast conjectures about what escapes the senses from a distant place.i 53
And a barrier will be set between them and what they desire, just as was done before to their counterparts: they were certainly in disquieting doubt. 54
