The Poor Before God
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Praise be to God, Originator of the heavens and the earth, who made the Agents messengers organized into departments — by twos, by threes, by fours.
بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم ٱلحمد لله فاطر ٱلسموت وٱلأرض جاعل ٱلملئكة رسلا أولي أجنحة مثنى وثلث وربعHe adds to creation whatever He wills.
يزيد في ٱلخلق ما يشآءGod is indeed capable of all things.
إن ٱلله على كل شىء قديرWhatever benevolence God opens up for mankind, none can withhold it,
ما يفتح ٱلله للناس من رحمة فلا ممسك لهاand whatever He withholds, none can release it after Him.
وما يمسك فلا مرسل له من بعدهHe is the All-Powerful, the Wise.
وهو ٱلعزيز ٱلحكيمO mankind, remember God's blessing upon you.
يأيها ٱلناس ٱذكروا نعمت ٱلله عليكمIs there any creator other than God who provides for you from the sky and the earth?
هل من خلق غير ٱلله يرزقكم من ٱلسمآء وٱلأرضThere is no deity but Him.
لآ إله إلا هوHow then are you turned away?
فأنى تؤفكونAnd if they call you a liar, messengers before you were already called liars.
وإن يكذبوك فقد كذبت رسل من قبلكAnd it is to God that all matters return.
وإلى ٱلله ترجع ٱلأمورO mankind, God's promise is true.
يأيها ٱلناس إن وعد ٱلله حقSo let not the present life deceive you,
فلا تغرنكم ٱلحيوة ٱلدنياnor let the great deceiver deceive you concerning God.
ولا يغرنكم بٱلله ٱلغرورThe Diverter is an enemy to you: so take him as an enemy.
إن ٱلشيطن لكم عدو فٱتخذوه عدواHe only calls his party so that they may be among the companions of the Inferno.
إنما يدعوا حزبه ليكونوا من أصحب ٱلسعيرThose who disown will have a severe punishment,
ٱلذين كفروا لهم عذاب شديدand those who believed and did righteous deeds will have forgiveness and a great reward.
وٱلذين ءامنوا وعملوا ٱلصلحت لهم مغفرة وأجر كبيرThe one to whom the evil of his deed has been made appealing, so that he sees it as good [is he comparable to the rightly guided]?
أفمن زين له سوء عمله فرءاه حسناGod leaves astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills.
فإن ٱلله يضل من يشآء ويهدي من يشآءSo let not your Self waste away in grief over them.
فلا تذهب نفسك عليهم حسرتGod is indeed All-Knowing of what they do.
إن ٱلله عليم بما يصنعونIt is God who sends the winds, which stir up clouds; We drive them to a dead land, and by them We bring the earth to life after its death.
وٱلله ٱلذي أرسل ٱلريح فتثير سحابا فسقنه إلى بلد ميت فأحيينا به ٱلأرض بعد موتهاSo will be the Awakening.
كذلك ٱلنشورWhoever desires might should know that all might belongs to God.
من كان يريد ٱلعزة فلله ٱلعزة جميعاTo Him ascends the good word,
إليه يصعد ٱلكلم ٱلطيبand the righteous deed, He raises it.
وٱلعمل ٱلصلح يرفعهAnd those who plot evil deeds will have a severe punishment,
وٱلذين يمكرون ٱلسيات لهم عذاب شديدand the plot of those is bound to perish.
ومكر أولئك هو يبورGod created you from dust, then from a drop, then made you into pairs.
وٱلله خلقكم من تراب ثم من نطفة ثم جعلكم أزوجاNo female conceives nor gives birth except with His knowledge.
وما تحمل من أنثى ولا تضع إلا بعلمهNo being has his life extended, nor is his life shortened, except that it is in a record.
وما يعمر من معمر ولا ينقص من عمره إلا في كتبThat is indeed easy for God.
إن ذلك على ٱلله يسيرThe two seas are not alike:
وما يستوي ٱلبحرانthis one is sweet, fresh, pleasant to drink, and that one is salty, bitter.
هذا عذب فرات سآئغ شرابه وهذا ملح أجاجFrom each you eat fresh meat, and you extract an ornament that you wear,
ومن كل تأكلون لحما طريا وتستخرجون حلية تلبسونهاand you see the ships cleaving through it, so that you may seek of His favor, and that you may be grateful.
وترى ٱلفلك فيه مواخر لتبتغوا من فضله ولعلكم تشكرونHe causes the night to enter into the day, and causes the day to enter into the night,
يولج ٱليل في ٱلنهار ويولج ٱلنهار في ٱليلand He has subjected the sun and the moon,
وسخر ٱلشمس وٱلقمرeach running toward an appointed term.
كل يجري لأجل مسمىThat is God, your Guardian; to Him belongs the dominion.
ذلكم ٱلله ربكم له ٱلملكAnd those you call upon besides Him do not possess even the skin of a date-stone.
وٱلذين تدعون من دونه ما يملكون من قطميرIf you call upon them, they do not hear your call; and even if they heard, they would not respond to you.
إن تدعوهم لا يسمعوا دعآءكم ولو سمعوا ما ٱستجابوا لكمAnd on the Day of Appearance they will disown your association [with God].
ويوم ٱلقيمة يكفرون بشرككمAnd none can inform you like the Informed One.
ولا ينبئك مثل خبيرO mankind, it is you who are the poor before God,
يأيها ٱلناس أنتم ٱلفقرآء إلى ٱللهwhile God is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy.
وٱلله هو ٱلغني ٱلحميدIf He willed, He would make you disappear and bring a new creation.
إن يشأ يذهبكم ويأت بخلق جديدAnd that is not at all difficult for God.
وما ذلك على ٱلله بعزيزNo bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another;
ولا تزر وازرة وزر أخرىand if a heavily laden [Self] calls for help with its burden, nothing of it will be carried, even by a close relative.
وإن تدع مثقلة إلى حملها لا يحمل منه شىء ولو كان ذا قربىYou warn usefully only those who fear their Guardian unseen, and maintain the Contact,
إنما تنذر ٱلذين يخشون ربهم بٱلغيب وأقاموا ٱلصلوةand whoever purifies himself only purifies himself for his own Self.
ومن تزكى فإنما يتزكى لنفسهAnd to God is the destination.
وإلى ٱلله ٱلمصيرThe blind and the seeing are not equal, nor are darkness and light, nor shade and scorching heat.
وما يستوي ٱلأعمى وٱلبصير ولا ٱلظلمت ولا ٱلنور ولا ٱلظل ولا ٱلحرورNor are the living and the dead equal.
وما يستوي ٱلأحيآء ولا ٱلأموتGod makes whoever He wills hear,
إن ٱلله يسمع من يشآءand you cannot make those in the graves hear.
ومآ أنت بمسمع من في ٱلقبورYou are but a warner.
إن أنت إلا نذيرWe have indeed sent you, in truth, as a bearer of good tidings and a warner.
إنآ أرسلنك بٱلحق بشيرا ونذيراAnd there is no community but a warner passed among it.
وإن من أمة إلا خلا فيها نذيرAnd if they call you a liar, those before them also called [their messengers] liars: their messengers came to them with clear proofs, the Formularies, and the Illuminating Scripture; then I seized those who disowned.
وإن يكذبوك فقد كذب ٱلذين من قبلهم جآءتهم رسلهم بٱلبينت وبٱلزبر وبٱلكتب ٱلمنير ثم أخذت ٱلذين كفرواAnd how was My disavowal!
فكيف كان نكيرHave you not seen that God sends down water from the sky, by which We bring forth fruits of varying colors?
ألم تر أن ٱلله أنزل من ٱلسمآء مآء فأخرجنا به ثمرت مختلفا ألونهاAnd in the mountains are tracts, white and red, of varying colors, and others intensely black.
ومن ٱلجبال جدد بيض وحمر مختلف ألونها وغرابيب سودAnd among mankind, and beasts, and cattle, there is likewise a variety of colors.
ومن ٱلناس وٱلدوآب وٱلأنعم مختلف ألونه كذلكOnly those among His obedient ones who know truly fear God.
إنما يخشى ٱلله من عباده ٱلعلمؤاGod is indeed All-Powerful, Most-Forgiving.
إن ٱلله عزيز غفورThose who recite the Scripture of God, maintain the Contact, and spend, secretly and openly, from what We have provided them, hope for a trade that will never perish, so that He may repay them fully and increase them from His favor.
إن ٱلذين يتلون كتب ٱلله وأقاموا ٱلصلوة وأنفقوا مما رزقنهم سرا وعلانية يرجون تجرة لن تبور ليوفيهم أجورهم ويزيدهم من فضلهHe is indeed Most-Forgiving, Grateful.
إنه غفور شكورAnd what We have revealed to you of the Scripture is the truth, confirming what came before it.
وٱلذي أوحينآ إليك من ٱلكتب هو ٱلحق مصدقا لما بين يديهGod is surely, toward His obedient ones, Informed, the One who sees perfectly.
إن ٱلله بعباده لخبير بصيرThen We caused the Scripture to be inherited by those We chose among Our obedient ones:
ثم أورثنا ٱلكتب ٱلذين ٱصطفينا من عبادناsome of them wrong their own Self,
فمنهم ظالم لنفسهsome follow a moderate course,
ومنهم مقتصدand some race ahead in good deeds, by God's permission.
ومنهم سابق بٱلخيرت بإذن ٱللهThat is the great favor.
ذلك هو ٱلفضل ٱلكبيرGardens of permanent abode, which they will enter, adorned therein with bracelets of gold and pearls,
جنت عدن يدخلونها يحلون فيها من أساور من ذهب ولؤلؤاand their garment therein will be silk.
ولباسهم فيها حريرAnd they will say: "Praise be to God, who has removed sorrow from us; our Guardian is surely Most-Forgiving, Grateful,
وقالوا ٱلحمد لله ٱلذي أذهب عنا ٱلحزن إن ربنا لغفور شكورwho has settled us, by His favor, in the abode of everlasting stay, where no fatigue touches us, nor any weariness."
ٱلذي أحلنا دار ٱلمقامة من فضله لا يمسنا فيها نصب ولا يمسنا فيها لغوبAnd those who disown will have the fire of Jahannam; it will not be decreed for them to die, nor will its punishment be lightened for them.
وٱلذين كفروا لهم نار جهنم لا يقضى عليهم فيموتوا ولا يخفف عنهم من عذابهاThus do We recompense every great disowner.
كذلك نجزي كل كفورAnd there they will cry out: "Our Guardian, bring us out, we will do righteousness, other than what we used to do!"
وهم يصطرخون فيها ربنآ أخرجنا نعمل صلحا غير ٱلذي كنا نعملDid We not grant you a life long enough that whoever wished to reflect could reflect? And the warner had come to you.
أولم نعمركم ما يتذكر فيه من تذكر وجآءكم ٱلنذيرSo taste,
فذوقواfor the wrongdoers have no helper.
فما للظلمين من نصيرGod knows what escapes the senses in the heavens and the earth;
إن ٱلله علم غيب ٱلسموت وٱلأرضHe is indeed All-Knowing of what the chests contain.
إنه عليم بذات ٱلصدورIt is He who made you successors on the earth:
هو ٱلذي جعلكم خلئف في ٱلأرضwhoever disowns, his disowning falls back upon him,
فمن كفر فعليه كفرهand the disowning of the disowners only increases them in detestation before their Guardian,
ولا يزيد ٱلكفرين كفرهم عند ربهم إلا مقتاand the disowning of the disowners only increases them in loss.
ولا يزيد ٱلكفرين كفرهم إلا خساراSay: "Have you seen your partners whom you call upon besides God? Show me what they have created of the earth, or do they have a share in the heavens?
قل أرءيتم شركآءكم ٱلذين تدعون من دون ٱلله أروني ماذا خلقوا من ٱلأرض أم لهم شرك في ٱلسموتOr have We given them a scripture, so that they rely on clear proofs from it?"
أم ءاتينهم كتبا فهم على بينت منهRather, the wrongdoers promise one another nothing but delusion.
بل إن يعد ٱلظلمون بعضهم بعضا إلا غروراGod holds the heavens and the earth, lest they cease to exist;
إن ٱلله يمسك ٱلسموت وٱلأرض أن تزولاand were they to cease, none besides Him could hold them.
ولئن زالتآ إن أمسكهما من أحد من بعدهHe is indeed full of patience, Most-Forgiving.
إنه كان حليما غفوراAnd they swore by God their strongest oaths that if a warner came to them, they would surely be better guided than any of the communities.
وأقسموا بٱلله جهد أيمنهم لئن جآءهم نذير ليكونن أهدى من إحدى ٱلأممBut when a warner came to them, it only increased them in aversion,
فلما جآءهم نذير ما زادهم إلا نفوراout of arrogance in the land, and evil plotting.
ٱستكبارا في ٱلأرض ومكر ٱلسيئBut evil plotting only envelops its own doers.
ولا يحيق ٱلمكر ٱلسيئ إلا بأهلهSo do they await anything but the precedent of the ancients?
فهل ينظرون إلا سنت ٱلأولينBut you will never find any change to God's norm,
فلن تجد لسنت ٱلله تبديلاnor will you ever find any shift in God's norm.
ولن تجد لسنت ٱلله تحويلاHave they not traveled through the land and seen what was the end of those before them, who were even greater than them in strength?
أولم يسيروا في ٱلأرض فينظروا كيف كان عقبة ٱلذين من قبلهم وكانوا أشد منهم قوةAnd nothing in the heavens or on the earth could render God powerless.
وما كان ٱلله ليعجزه من شىء في ٱلسموت ولا في ٱلأرضHe is indeed All-Knowing, Able.
إنه كان عليما قديراAnd if God were to seize mankind for what they have earned, He would not leave upon it [the earth] any living creature;
ولو يؤاخذ ٱلله ٱلناس بما كسبوا ما ترك على ظهرها من دآبةbut He defers them until an appointed term.
ولكن يؤخرهم إلى أجل مسمىAnd when their term comes, God sees perfectly His obedient ones.
فإذا جآء أجلهم فإن ٱلله كان بعباده بصيرا
