Who Will Give Life to the Bones?
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Ya. Sin.
بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم يسBy the Recitation full of wisdom, you are surely among the envoys,
وٱلقرءان ٱلحكيم إنك لمن ٱلمرسلين على صرط مستقيمa descent from the All-Powerful, the Benevolent, so that you may warn a people whose ancestors were not warned, and who are therefore heedless.
تنزيل ٱلعزيز ٱلرحيم لتنذر قوما مآ أنذر ءابآؤهم فهم غفلونThe word has proven true against most of them: they do not believe.
لقد حق ٱلقول على أكثرهم فهم لا يؤمنونWe have placed shackles on their necks, reaching up to their chins, so that their heads are held back.
إنا جعلنا في أعنقهم أغللا فهي إلى ٱلأذقان فهم مقمحونAnd We have placed a barrier before them and a barrier behind them, and We have covered them over, so they do not see.
وجعلنا من بين أيديهم سدا ومن خلفهم سدا فأغشينهم فهم لا يبصرونIt is the same to them whether you warn them or do not warn them: they do not believe.
وسوآء عليهم ءأنذرتهم أم لم تنذرهم لا يؤمنونYou can only warn usefully one who follows the Reminder and fears the All-Benevolent unseen: give him good news of forgiveness and a generous reward.
إنما تنذر من ٱتبع ٱلذكر وخشي ٱلرحمن بٱلغيب فبشره بمغفرة وأجر كريمIt is indeed We, We alone, who give life to the dead, and We record what they put forth and the traces they leave behind.
إنا نحن نحي ٱلموتى ونكتب ما قدموا وءاثرهمAnd everything, We have counted it in a clear reference.
وكل شىء أحصينه في إمام مبينSet before them, as an example, the people of the town: when the envoys came to it, when We sent two [messengers] to them, and they called them liars; so We reinforced them with a third, and they said: "We are indeed sent to you."
وٱضرب لهم مثلا أصحب ٱلقرية إذ جآءها ٱلمرسلون إذ أرسلنآ إليهم ٱثنين فكذبوهما فعززنا بثالث فقالوا إنآ إليكم مرسلونThey said: "You are nothing but humans like us; the All-Benevolent has sent nothing down; you are only lying."
قالوا مآ أنتم إلا بشر مثلنا ومآ أنزل ٱلرحمن من شىء إن أنتم إلا تكذبونThey said: "Our Guardian knows that we are surely sent to you; and upon us is only the clear transmission."
قالوا ربنا يعلم إنآ إليكم لمرسلون وما علينآ إلا ٱلبلغ ٱلمبينThey said: "We see in you a bad omen. If you do not stop, we will surely banish you, and a painful punishment from us will touch you."
قالوا إنا تطيرنا بكم لئن لم تنتهوا لنرجمنكم وليمسنكم منا عذاب أليمThey replied: "Your omen lies with yourselves. Is it because you are reminded [of the truth]?
قالوا طئركم معكم أئن ذكرتمRather, you are a people of the excessive."
بل أنتم قوم مسرفونAnd a man came hurrying from the farthest end of the Capital.
وجآء من أقصا ٱلمدينة رجل يسعىHe said: "O my people, follow the envoys; follow those who ask no reward of you, and who let themselves be guided.
قال يقوم ٱتبعوا ٱلمرسلين ٱتبعوا من لا يسلكم أجرا وهم مهتدونAnd why should I not obey the One who originated me, and to whom you will be brought back?
وما لي لآ أعبد ٱلذي فطرني وإليه ترجعونShould I take, besides Him, deities? If the All-Benevolent intends harm for me, their intercession will not avail me at all, nor will they save me.
ءأتخذ من دونه ءالهة إن يردن ٱلرحمن بضر لا تغن عني شفعتهم شيا ولا ينقذونI would then surely be in manifest error.
إني إذا لفي ضلل مبينI have indeed believed in your Guardian: so listen to me."
إني ءامنت بربكم فٱسمعونIt was said [to him]: "Enter the Garden."
قيل ٱدخل ٱلجنةHe said: "If only my people knew for what my Guardian has forgiven me, and made me one of the honored ones!"
قال يليت قومي يعلمون بما غفر لي ربي وجعلني من ٱلمكرمينAnd We did not send down upon his people, after him, any army from the sky, nor did We need to send one down.
ومآ أنزلنا على قومه من بعده من جند من ٱلسمآء وما كنا منزلينIt was but a single cry, and there they were, extinguished.
إن كانت إلا صيحة وحدة فإذا هم خمدونWhat regret for the obedient ones!
يحسرة على ٱلعبادNo messenger ever came to them but they mocked him.
ما يأتيهم من رسول إلا كانوا به يستهزءونDo they not see how many generations We annihilated before them, [generations] that will not return to them?
ألم يروا كم أهلكنا قبلهم من ٱلقرون أنهم إليهم لا يرجعونAll of them, every single one, will be gathered, brought before Us.
وإن كل لما جميع لدينا محضرونA sign for them: the dead earth, which We bring to life, and from which We bring forth grain, so that they eat from it.
وءاية لهم ٱلأرض ٱلميتة أحيينها وأخرجنا منها حبا فمنه يأكلونAnd We placed therein gardens of palm trees and vines, and We caused springs to gush forth in it, so that they may eat from its fruit — and it was not their hands that produced it.
وجعلنا فيها جنت من نخيل وأعنب وفجرنا فيها من ٱلعيون ليأكلوا من ثمره وما عملته أيديهمWill they not then be grateful?
أفلا يشكرونGlory be to the One who created all the pairs, from what the earth grows, from themselves, and from what they do not know.
سبحن ٱلذي خلق ٱلأزوج كلها مما تنبت ٱلأرض ومن أنفسهم ومما لا يعلمونA sign for them: the night, from which We strip away the day, and there they are, plunged into darkness.
وءاية لهم ٱليل نسلخ منه ٱلنهار فإذا هم مظلمونAnd the sun runs, from a stable place that is its own.
وٱلشمس تجري لمستقر لهاThat is the measure set by the All-Powerful, the All-Knowing.
ذلك تقدير ٱلعزيز ٱلعليمAnd the moon, We have set for it stations, until it returns like an old curved palm-stalk.
وٱلقمر قدرنه منازل حتى عاد كٱلعرجون ٱلقديمIt is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor for the night to outrun the day.
لا ٱلشمس ينبغي لهآ أن تدرك ٱلقمر ولا ٱليل سابق ٱلنهارEach sails along in an orbit.
وكل في فلك يسبحونA sign for them: We carried their offspring in the laden ship, and We created for them, in its likeness, what they ride.
وءاية لهم أنا حملنا ذريتهم في ٱلفلك ٱلمشحون وخلقنا لهم من مثله ما يركبونAnd if We willed, We would drown them; then there would be none to answer their cry, nor would they be saved, except by a benevolence from Us, and enjoyment for a time.
وإن نشأ نغرقهم فلا صريخ لهم ولا هم ينقذون إلا رحمة منا ومتعا إلى حينAnd when it is said to them: "Guard yourselves against what is before you and what is behind you, so that you may receive benevolence,"
وإذا قيل لهم ٱتقوا ما بين أيديكم وما خلفكم لعلكم ترحمونnot a single sign, among the signs of their Guardian, comes to them but they turn away from it.
وما تأتيهم من ءاية من ءايت ربهم إلا كانوا عنها معرضينAnd when it is said to them: "Spend from what God has provided you," those who disown say to those who have believed: "Shall we feed one whom God, if He willed, would feed Himself? You are only in manifest error."
وإذا قيل لهم أنفقوا مما رزقكم ٱلله قال ٱلذين كفروا للذين ءامنوا أنطعم من لو يشآء ٱلله أطعمه إن أنتم إلا في ضلل مبينAnd they say: "When will this promise be, if you are truthful?"
ويقولون متى هذا ٱلوعد إن كنتم صدقينThey await nothing but a single cry that will seize them while they are quarreling with one another.
ما ينظرون إلا صيحة وحدة تأخذهم وهم يخصمونThen they will not be able to make any bequest, nor will they return to their people.
فلا يستطيعون توصية ولآ إلى أهلهم يرجعونAnd the Horn will be blown, and there they are, rushing from their graves to their Guardian.
ونفخ في ٱلصور فإذا هم من ٱلأجداث إلى ربهم ينسلونThey will say: "Woe to us! Who has raised us up from our resting place?
قالوا يويلنا من بعثنا من مرقدناThis is what the All-Benevolent promised, and the envoys spoke the truth."
هذا ما وعد ٱلرحمن وصدق ٱلمرسلونIt will be but a single cry, and there they are, all together, brought before Us.
إن كانت إلا صيحة وحدة فإذا هم جميع لدينا محضرونThis day, no Self will be wronged in the least, and you will be recompensed only for what you used to do.
فٱليوم لا تظلم نفس شيا ولا تجزون إلا ما كنتم تعملونThe companions of the Garden will, this day, be occupied in delight, they and their spouses, in the shade, reclining upon couches.
إن أصحب ٱلجنة ٱليوم في شغل فكهون هم وأزوجهم في ظلل على ٱلأرآئك متكونThey will have fruit therein.
لهم فيها فكهةAnd they will have whatever they call for. Peace!
ولهم ما يدعون سلمA word from a Benevolent Guardian.
قولا من رب رحيم"Stand apart today, O severed!
وٱمتزوا ٱليوم أيها ٱلمجرمونDid I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, not to obey the Diverter — he is indeed for you a manifest enemy — and to obey Me alone?
ألم أعهد إليكم يبني ءادم أن لا تعبدوا ٱلشيطن إنه لكم عدو مبين وأن ٱعبدونيThis is a straight path.
هذا صرط مستقيمYet he did lead astray a great many of you.
ولقد أضل منكم جبلا كثيراDid you not then reason?
أفلم تكونوا تعقلونThis is Jahannam, which you were promised. Burn in it today, for having disowned [the truth]."
هذه جهنم ٱلتي كنتم توعدون ٱصلوها ٱليوم بما كنتم تكفرونThis day, We seal their mouths; their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will bear witness to what they used to earn.
ٱليوم نختم على أفوههم وتكلمنآ أيديهم وتشهد أرجلهم بما كانوا يكسبونAnd if We willed, We would blot out their eyes; then they would rush toward the path, but how would they see?
ولو نشآء لطمسنا على أعينهم فٱستبقوا ٱلصرط فأنى يبصرونAnd if We willed, We would freeze them in their places, and they would be able neither to go forward nor to return.
ولو نشآء لمسخنهم على مكانتهم فما ٱستطعوا مضيا ولا يرجعونAnd whomever We grant long life, We reverse in creation.
ومن نعمره ننكسه في ٱلخلقWill they not then reason?
أفلا يعقلونWe did not teach him beguiling rhetoric; it does not befit him.
وما علمنه ٱلشعر وما ينبغي لهIt is nothing but a Reminder and a clear Recitation, so as to warn whoever is alive, and so that the word may prove true against those who disown.
إن هو إلا ذكر وقرءان مبين لينذر من كان حيا ويحق ٱلقول على ٱلكفرينDo they not see that We have created for them, from what Our hands have made, cattle which they own?
أولم يروا أنا خلقنا لهم مما عملت أيدينآ أنعما فهم لها ملكونWe have made them subservient to them: some serve as their mounts, and some they eat.
وذللنها لهم فمنها ركوبهم ومنها يأكلونAnd they have in them benefits and drinks.
ولهم فيها منفع ومشاربWill they not then be grateful?
أفلا يشكرونAnd they have taken, besides God, deities, hoping to be helped. They cannot help them, though they are, for them, a mobilized army.
وٱتخذوا من دون ٱلله ءالهة لعلهم ينصرون لا يستطيعون نصرهم وهم لهم جند محضرونSo let their words not grieve you.
فلا يحزنك قولهمWe know what they conceal and what they proclaim.
إنا نعلم ما يسرون وما يعلنونDoes the human being not see that We created him from a drop, and yet he is a manifest quarreler?
أولم ير ٱلإنسن أنا خلقنه من نطفة فإذا هو خصيم مبينHe sets forth for Us an example, forgetting his own creation.
وضرب لنا مثلا ونسي خلقهHe says: "Who will give life to the bones once they are decayed?"
قال من يحي ٱلعظم وهي رميمSay: "He who brought them into being the first time will give them life; and He is All-Knowing of all creation."
قل يحييها ٱلذي أنشأهآ أول مرة وهو بكل خلق عليمHe who made for you fire out of the green tree, and see, you kindle from it.
ٱلذي جعل لكم من ٱلشجر ٱلأخضر نارا فإذآ أنتم منه توقدونIs not the One who created the heavens and the earth able to create the like of them?
أوليس ٱلذي خلق ٱلسموت وٱلأرض بقدر على أن يخلق مثلهمYes indeed! And He is the Creator, the All-Knowing.
بلى وهو ٱلخلق ٱلعليمHis command, when He wills a thing, is only to say to it: "Be,"
إنمآ أمره إذآ أراد شيا أن يقول له كنand it is.
فيكونSo glory be to the One in whose hand is the sovereign dominion of all things, and to whom you will be brought back.
فسبحن ٱلذي بيده ملكوت كل شىء وإليه ترجعون
