Fussilat

  • In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Ha, Mim.i 1
  • A revealed descent from the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent: a Scripture whose signs are made distinct, a flawless recitation for a people who know, bearing good news and warning,i 4
  • yet most of them turn away, so that they do not hear. 4
  • They say: "Our cores are under covers against what you call us to, and there is a deafness in our ears, and between us and you a veil. So act — we too are acting [on our side]."i 5
  • Say: "I am only a human being like you; it is revealed to me that your god is One God. So stand straight toward Him and ask His forgiveness." 6
  • Woe to the idolaters, who do not give the zakat and who deny the Hereafter!i 7
  • Those who believe and do what is right will have a reward without interruption. 8
  • Say: "Do you then deny the One who created the earth in two days, and set up equals to Him?"i 9
  • That is the Guardian of all beings.i 9
  • He placed firmly-set mountains upon it, blessed it, and apportioned its provisions in it, in four equal days, for those who ask. 10
  • Then He turned toward the sky, which was smoke, and said to it and to the earth: "Come, both of you, willingly or unwillingly." 11
  • They said: "We come obediently." 11
  • So He completed them as seven skies in two days, and inspired to each sky its command. 12
  • And We adorned the nearest sky with lamps, 12
  • and with protection. 12
  • That is the measure of the All-Powerful, the All-Knowing.i 12
  • If they turn away, say: "I warn you of a thunderbolt like the thunderbolt of the Recidivists [Aad] and the Depleters [Thamud]" 14
  • They said: "Had our Guardian willed, He would have sent down Agents. So we deny what you have been sent with."i 14
  • As for Aad, they were arrogant on the earth without right, and said: "Who is stronger than us in might?" 15
  • Did they not see that God, who created them, is stronger than them in might? 15
  • And they used to deny Our signs. 15
  • So We sent upon them a howling wind, during ill-omened days, to make them taste the punishment of disgrace in the present life; 16
  • and the punishment of the Hereafter is more disgracing still, and they will not be helped. 16
  • As for Thamud, We guided them, but they preferred blindness over guidance, so the thunderbolt of the humiliating punishment seized them for what they used to earn. 17
  • And We saved those who believed and were mindful [of God]. 18
  • The day the enemies of God are gathered toward the Fire, they will be arranged in ranks, 19
  • until, when they reach it, their hearing, their sights, and their skins will testify against them about what they used to do. 20
  • They will say to their skins: "Why did you testify against us?" 21
  • They will say: "God, who makes everything speak, made us speak. It is He who created you the first time, and to Him you are returned." 21
  • You were not hiding [in thinking] that your hearing, your sights, and your skins would not testify against you; 22
  • but you thought that God did not know much of what you were doing. 22
  • That is the thought you had of your Guardian; it has ruined you, and you have become among the losers. 23
  • If they endure, the Fire is their dwelling; 24
  • and if they seek favor, they will not be among those granted favor. 24
  • And We assigned to them companions who made attractive to them what was before them and what was behind them, 25
  • and the word came due against them, among communities of the Occulted and humans that had already passed away before them;i 25
  • they were indeed losers. 25
  • Those who deny said: "Do not listen to this recitation, and drown it out, so that you may prevail."i 26
  • We will surely make those who deny taste a severe punishment, and We will surely repay them the worst of what they used to do.i 27
  • That is the recompense of the enemies of God: the Fire; 28
  • they have therein the home of eternity, 28
  • a recompense for their denying Our signs. 28
  • Those who deny will say: "Our Guardian, show us those who misled us among the Occulted and humans, that we may put them beneath our feet, so that they may be among the lowest."i 29
  • Those who say: "Our Guardian is God," then stand straight — the Agents descend upon them: "Do not fear and do not grieve; rejoice in the Garden that you were promised."i 30
  • We are your protectors in the present life and in the Hereafter; 31
  • and you will have therein whatever your Selves desire, and you will have therein whatever you ask for, as a welcome from a [Lord who is] All-Forgiving, Benevolent.i 32
  • And who speaks better than one who calls to God, does what is right, and says: "I am indeed among those true to God alone"?i 33
  • The good deed and the bad deed are not equal. 34
  • Repel with what is better; then the one between you and whom there was enmity will be like a close ally. 34
  • But this is received only by those who endure, 35
  • and it is received only by one who has an immense share. 35
  • And if an incitement from the Diverter should ever prompt you, seek refuge in God;i 36
  • it is He, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. 36
  • And among His signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. 37
  • Do not prostrate to the sun or to the moon, 37
  • but prostrate to God, who created them, if it is Him that you obey. 37
  • If they are arrogant, then those who are with your Guardian glorify Him night and day, without growing weary. 38
  • And among His signs: you see the earth humbled; then, when We send down water upon it, it stirs and swells. 39
  • He who gave it life is surely the One who gives life to the dead; 39
  • He is capable of all things. 39
  • Those who deviate concerning Our signs are not hidden from Us. 40
  • Is one who is thrown into the Fire better, or one who comes secure on the Day of Appearance?i 40
  • Do what you wish, 40
  • He is All-Seeing of what you do. 40
  • Those who deny the Reminder when it has come to them [will bear the consequences]; and it is indeed an impregnable Scripture, which falsehood cannot reach from before it or from behind it,i 42
  • a revealed descent from a [Lord who is] Wise, Praiseworthy. 42
  • Nothing is said to you except what was already said to the messengers before you; 43
  • your Guardian is indeed possessor of forgiveness and possessor of painful punishment. 43
  • Had We made it a flawed recitation, they would have said: "Why were its signs not made distinct?"i 44
  • Flawed and flawless at once?i 44
  • Say: "It is, for those who believe, guidance and healing; 44
  • and those who do not believe have a deafness in their ears, and it is upon them a blindness; 44
  • those are called from a distant place." 44
  • And We certainly gave Moussa the Scripture, and there was disagreement over it;i 45
  • and had it not been for a word that preceded from your Guardian, it would already have been settled between them; 45
  • and they are indeed in disquieting doubt about it. 45
  • Whoever does what is right, it is for his own Self;i 46
  • and whoever does wrong, it is against his own Self;i 46
  • and your Guardian is not unjust to His the constrained. 46
  • To Him is referred the knowledge of the Hour; 47
  • no fruit comes out of its sheath, nor does any female conceive or give birth, except with His knowledge; 47
  • and the day He calls out to them: "Where are My partners?", they will say: "We inform You that there is not among us any witness." 47
  • What they used to invoke before will stray away from them, and they will know that they have no escape. 48
  • The human being does not tire of calling for good; 49
  • but if evil touches him, he becomes despairing, hopeless. 49
  • And if We let him taste benevolence from Us after hardship that touched him, he will surely say: "This is mine by right, and I do not think the Hour is coming; and if I am returned to my Guardian, I will indeed have the best with Him." 50
  • We will surely inform those who deny of what they did, and We will surely make them taste a harsh punishment.i 50
  • And when We favor the human being, he turns away and distances himself disdainfully; 51
  • and when evil touches him, he is full of endless calling. 51
  • Say: "Have you considered? If this is from God and you deny it, who is more astray than one who is in deep estrangement?"i 52
  • We will show them Our signs in the horizons and in themselves, until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth.i 53
  • Is it not enough that your Guardian is witness over all things? 53
  • Indeed, they are in doubt about the meeting with their Guardian; 54
  • indeed, He encompasses all things. 54
