Sourate Ad-Dukhan (44) with hamza shown

In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Ha, Mim.i 1

بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم حم

By the clear Scripture! We sent it down in a blessed night; We are warners.i 3

وٱلكتب ٱلمبين إنآ أنزلنه في ليلة مبركة إنا كنا منذرين

In it, every wise matter is decided, a command from Us. 5

فيها يفرق كل أمر حكيم أمرا من عندنآ

We are senders [of Our messengers], a benevolence from your Guardian. 6

إنا كنا مرسلين رحمة من ربك

It is He, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. 6

إنه هو ٱلسميع ٱلعليم

the Guardian of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you have certainty. 7

رب ٱلسموت وٱلأرض وما بينهمآ إن كنتم موقنين

There is no god but Him. 8

لآ إله إلا هو

He gives life and causes death, 8

يحي ويميت

your Guardian and the Guardian of your forefathers. 8

ربكم ورب ءابآئكم ٱلأولين

But they play in doubt. 9

بل هم في شك يلعبون

So watch for the day when the sky brings a clear smoke that envelops the people, 11

فٱرتقب يوم تأتي ٱلسمآء بدخان مبين يغشى ٱلناس

this is a painful punishment. 11

هذا عذاب أليم

"Our Guardian, remove the punishment from us; we believe." 12

ربنا ٱكشف عنا ٱلعذاب إنا مؤمنون

How would the reminder benefit them, when a clear messenger had come to them, then they turned away from him and said: "One taught [by others], insane"? 14

أنى لهم ٱلذكرى وقد جآءهم رسول مبين ثم تولوا عنه وقالوا معلم مجنون

We will remove the punishment for a little while, 15

إنا كاشفوا ٱلعذاب قليلا

but you will return [to disbelief]. 15

إنكم عآئدون

The day We strike the greatest Strike, 16

يوم نبطش ٱلبطشة ٱلكبرى

We will take vengeance. 16

إنا منتقمون

Before them, We tried the people of Fir'awn, and a noble messenger came to them: "Hand over to me the obedient ones of God; I am for you a trustworthy messenger; and do not exalt yourselves against God — I bring you clear authority; and I seek refuge in my Guardian and yours, that you not banish me; and if you do not believe me, then keep away from me."i 21

ولقد فتنا قبلهم قوم فرعون وجآءهم رسول كريم أن أدوا إلى عباد ٱلله إني لكم رسول أمين وأن لا تعلوا على ٱلله إني ءاتيكم بسلطن مبين وإني عذت بربي وربكم أن ترجمون وإن لم تؤمنوا لي فٱعتزلون

So he called upon his Guardian: "These are a severed people." 22

فدعا ربه أن هؤلآء قوم مجرمون

"Set out with My obedient ones by night; you will be pursued. And leave the sea parted, still." 24

فأسر بعبادي ليلا إنكم متبعون وٱترك ٱلبحر رهوا

They are an army that will be drowned. 24

إنهم جند مغرقون

How many gardens and springs they left behind, and crops, and noble residences, and comforts in which they took delight. 27

كم تركوا من جنت وعيون وزروع ومقام كريم ونعمة كانوا فيها فكهين

Thus. 28

كذلك

We made another people inherit them. 28

وأورثنها قوما ءاخرين

Neither the sky nor the earth wept over them, and they were granted no reprieve. 29

فما بكت عليهم ٱلسمآء وٱلأرض وما كانوا منظرين

We saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating punishment [coming] from Fir'awn.i 31

ولقد نجينا بني إسرءيل من ٱلعذاب ٱلمهين من فرعون

He was, among the excessive, a haughty one. 31

إنه كان عاليا من ٱلمسرفين

We chose them, knowingly, above all beings, and We gave them, among the signs, that which held a clear trial.i 33

ولقد ٱخترنهم على علم على ٱلعلمين وءاتينهم من ٱلءايت ما فيه بلؤا مبين

These say: "There is nothing but our first death, and we will not be resurrected. Bring back our forefathers, if you are truthful." 36

إن هؤلآء ليقولون إن هي إلا موتتنا ٱلأولى وما نحن بمنشرين فأتوا بابآئنآ إن كنتم صدقين

Are they better, or the people of Tubba'?i 37

أهم خير أم قوم تبع

And those before them — We destroyed them. 37

وٱلذين من قبلهم أهلكنهم

They were a severed people. 37

إنهم كانوا مجرمين

We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them in play. 38

وما خلقنا ٱلسموت وٱلأرض وما بينهما لعبين

We created them only with truth, 39

ما خلقنهمآ إلا بٱلحق

but most of them do not know. 39

ولكن أكثرهم لا يعلمون

The Day of Separation is the appointed time for them all — a day when no ally will be of any use to [another] ally, and they will not be helped, except those on whom God has benevolence. 42

إن يوم ٱلفصل ميقتهم أجمعين يوم لا يغني مولى عن مولى شيا ولا هم ينصرون إلا من رحم ٱلله

He is the All-Powerful, the benevolent.i 42

إنه هو ٱلعزيز ٱلرحيم

Indeed, the tree of Zaqqum is the food of the hardened transgressor; like molten metal, it boils in the bellies as boiling water boils. 46

إن شجرت ٱلزقوم طعام ٱلأثيم كٱلمهل يغلي في ٱلبطون كغلي ٱلحميم

"Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Blaze, then pour over his head the punishment of boiling water. Taste!" 49

خذوه فٱعتلوه إلى سوآء ٱلجحيم ثم صبوا فوق رأسه من عذاب ٱلحميم ذق

"You, yes you, the mighty, the noble!" 49

إنك أنت ٱلعزيز ٱلكريم

This is what you used to doubt. 50

إن هذا ما كنتم به تمترون

Those who guard themselves will be in a secure place, in gardens and springs, dressed in fine silk and brocade, facing one another. 53

إن ٱلمتقين في مقام أمين في جنت وعيون يلبسون من سندس وإستبرق متقبلين

Thus. 54

كذلك

We will unite them with companions of listening and support.i 54

وزوجنهم بحور عين

They will call therein for every fruit, secure. 55

يدعون فيها بكل فكهة ءامنين

They will not taste death therein, 56

لا يذوقون فيها ٱلموت

except the first death. 56

إلا ٱلموتة ٱلأولى

He will have shielded them from the punishment of the Blaze, as a favor from your Guardian. 57

ووقىهم عذاب ٱلجحيم فضلا من ربك

That is the immense triumph. 57

ذلك هو ٱلفوز ٱلعظيم

We have only made it easy in your tongue, so that they may remember. 58

فإنما يسرنه بلسانك لعلهم يتذكرون

So watch, 59

فٱرتقب

they too are watching. 59

إنهم مرتقبون
