Al-Jathiya
Emotion Taken as a Deity
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Ḥa. Mim.
بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم حمThe descent of the Scripture comes from God, the All-Powerful, the Wise.
تنزيل ٱلكتب من ٱلله ٱلعزيز ٱلحكيمSurely, in the heavens and the earth are signs for the believers.
إن في ٱلسموت وٱلأرض لءايت للمؤمنينAnd in your creation, and in the creatures He scatters about, are signs for a people who have certainty; and in the alternation of night and day, and what God sends down from the sky as provision, by which He revives the earth after its death, and in the diversity of the winds, are signs for a people who reason.
وفي خلقكم وما يبث من دآبة ءايت لقوم يوقنون وٱختلف ٱليل وٱلنهار ومآ أنزل ٱلله من ٱلسمآء من رزق فأحيا به ٱلأرض بعد موتها وتصريف ٱلريح ءايت لقوم يعقلونThese are the signs of God which We recite to you in truth.
تلك ءايت ٱلله نتلوها عليك بٱلحقSo in what discourse, after God and His signs, will they believe?
فبأى حديث بعد ٱلله وءايته يؤمنونWoe to every transgressive liar, who hears the signs of God recited to him, then persists arrogantly, as if he had not heard them.
ويل لكل أفاك أثيم يسمع ءايت ٱلله تتلى عليه ثم يصر مستكبرا كأن لم يسمعهاSo give him news of a painful punishment.
فبشره بعذاب أليمAnd when he learns something of Our signs, he takes them in mockery.
وإذا علم من ءايتنا شيا ٱتخذها هزواThose are the ones who will have a humiliating punishment.
أولئك لهم عذاب مهينBehind them is Jahannam; and what they earned will not avail them at all, nor will what they took as allies besides God.
من ورآئهم جهنم ولا يغني عنهم ما كسبوا شيا ولا ما ٱتخذوا من دون ٱلله أوليآءAnd they will have an immense punishment.
ولهم عذاب عظيمThis is guidance,
هذا هدىand those who disown the signs of their Guardian will have a punishment of painful defilement.
وٱلذين كفروا بايت ربهم لهم عذاب من رجز أليمGod is the One who subjected the sea for you, so that ships may sail upon it by His command, and so that you may seek of His favor, and so that you may be grateful.
ٱلله ٱلذي سخر لكم ٱلبحر لتجري ٱلفلك فيه بأمره ولتبتغوا من فضله ولعلكم تشكرونAnd He subjected for you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, all from Him.
وسخر لكم ما في ٱلسموت وما في ٱلأرض جميعا منهThere are surely in that signs for a people who reflect.
إن في ذلك لءايت لقوم يتفكرونTell those who believe to forgive those who do not expect the days of God, so that He may recompense a people for what they used to earn.
قل للذين ءامنوا يغفروا للذين لا يرجون أيام ٱلله ليجزي قوما بما كانوا يكسبونWhoever does what is right, it is for his own Self,
من عمل صلحا فلنفسهand whoever does wrong, it is against his own Self,
ومن أسآء فعليهاthen to your Guardian you will be returned.
ثم إلى ربكم ترجعونWe gave the Sons of Israel the Scripture, the judgment, and prophethood; We provided them with good things and favored them above all beings; and We gave them clear proofs concerning the Command.
ولقد ءاتينا بني إسرءيل ٱلكتب وٱلحكم وٱلنبوة ورزقنهم من ٱلطيبت وفضلنهم على ٱلعلمين وءاتينهم بينت من ٱلأمرThey did not differ except after knowledge had come to them,
فما ٱختلفوا إلا من بعد ما جآءهم ٱلعلمout of aggression among themselves.
بغيا بينهمYour Guardian will indeed settle between them, on the Day of Appearance, concerning what they used to differ over.
إن ربك يقضي بينهم يوم ٱلقيمة فيما كانوا فيه يختلفونThen We placed you upon a legislated way from the Command, so follow it,
ثم جعلنك على شريعة من ٱلأمر فٱتبعهاand do not follow the emotions [overriding reason] of those who do not know.
ولا تتبع أهوآء ٱلذين لا يعلمونThey will indeed not avail you anything against God,
إنهم لن يغنوا عنك من ٱلله شياand indeed the wrongdoers are allies of one another,
وإن ٱلظلمين بعضهم أوليآء بعضwhile God is the Ally of those who guard themselves.
وٱلله ولي ٱلمتقينThis is insight for the people, and guidance and benevolence for a people who have certainty.
هذا بصئر للناس وهدى ورحمة لقوم يوقنونOr do those who have committed evil deeds think that We will make them like those who have believed and done righteous deeds, equal in their life and their death?
أم حسب ٱلذين ٱجترحوا ٱلسيات أن نجعلهم كٱلذين ءامنوا وعملوا ٱلصلحت سوآء محياهم ومماتهمHow evil is what they decide!
سآء ما يحكمونGod created the heavens and the earth with truth,
وخلق ٱلله ٱلسموت وٱلأرض بٱلحقand so that every Self may be recompensed for what it earned, and they will not be wronged.
ولتجزى كل نفس بما كسبت وهم لا يظلمونHave you seen the one who has taken his emotion [overriding reason] as his deity? God knowingly left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his core, and placed a veil over his sight. Who then will guide him after God?
أفرءيت من ٱتخذ إلهه هوىه وأضله ٱلله على علم وختم على سمعه وقلبه وجعل على بصره غشوة فمن يهديه من بعد ٱللهWill you not then remember?
أفلا تذكرونThey said: "There is nothing but our present life; we die and we live, and nothing annihilates us but time."
وقالوا ما هي إلا حياتنا ٱلدنيا نموت ونحيا وما يهلكنآ إلا ٱلدهرThey have no knowledge of that,
وما لهم بذلك من علمthey only conjecture.
إن هم إلا يظنونAnd when Our clear signs are recited to them, their only argument is to say: "Bring back our forefathers, if you are truthful."
وإذا تتلى عليهم ءايتنا بينت ما كان حجتهم إلآ أن قالوا ٱئتوا بابآئنآ إن كنتم صدقينSay: "God gives you life, then causes you to die, then He will gather you to the Day of Appearance, about which there is no doubt,"
قل ٱلله يحييكم ثم يميتكم ثم يجمعكم إلى يوم ٱلقيمة لا ريب فيهbut most people do not know.
ولكن أكثر ٱلناس لا يعلمونTo God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth,
ولله ملك ٱلسموت وٱلأرضand on the day the Hour rises, that day those who deal in falsehood will lose.
ويوم تقوم ٱلساعة يومئذ يخسر ٱلمبطلونYou will see every community kneeling,
وترى كل أمة جاثيةevery community will be called to its record.
كل أمة تدعى إلى كتبها"Today you are recompensed for what you used to do."
ٱليوم تجزون ما كنتم تعملون"This is Our record; it speaks about you in truth,"
هذا كتبنا ينطق عليكم بٱلحق"We were indeed having transcribed what you used to do."
إنا كنا نستنسخ ما كنتم تعملونAs for those who believed and did righteous deeds, their Guardian will admit them into His benevolence;
فأما ٱلذين ءامنوا وعملوا ٱلصلحت فيدخلهم ربهم في رحمتهthat is the manifest triumph.
ذلك هو ٱلفوز ٱلمبينAs for those who disowned: "Were not My signs recited to you? But you were arrogant and were a severed people."
وأما ٱلذين كفروا أفلم تكن ءايتي تتلى عليكم فٱستكبرتم وكنتم قوما مجرمينAnd when it was said: "Indeed the promise of God is true, and the Hour, no doubt about it," you said: "We do not know what the Hour is; we only conjecture, and we are not certain."
وإذا قيل إن وعد ٱلله حق وٱلساعة لا ريب فيها قلتم ما ندري ما ٱلساعة إن نظن إلا ظنا وما نحن بمستيقنينThe evils of what they did will have appeared to them,
وبدا لهم سيات ما عملواand what they used to mock will envelop them.
وحاق بهم ما كانوا به يستهزءونIt will be said: "Today We forget you, as you forgot the meeting of this your day; your refuge is the Fire, and you will have no helpers."
وقيل ٱليوم ننسىكم كما نسيتم لقآء يومكم هذا ومأوىكم ٱلنار وما لكم من نصرين"That is because you took the signs of God in mockery, and the present life deceived you."
ذلكم بأنكم ٱتخذتم ءايت ٱلله هزوا وغرتكم ٱلحيوة ٱلدنياSo today they will not be taken out of it, nor will they be asked to make amends.
فٱليوم لا يخرجون منها ولا هم يستعتبونSo to God belongs praise, Guardian of the heavens and Guardian of the earth, Guardian of all beings.
فلله ٱلحمد رب ٱلسموت ورب ٱلأرض رب ٱلعلمينAnd to Him belongs greatness in the heavens and the earth,
وله ٱلكبريآء في ٱلسموت وٱلأرضand He is the All-Powerful, the Wise.
وهو ٱلعزيز ٱلحكيم
