Sourate Al-Jathiya (45) with hamza shown

In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Ha, Mim.i 1

بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم حم

The sending down of the Scripture is from God, the All-Powerful, the Wise.i 2

تنزيل ٱلكتب من ٱلله ٱلعزيز ٱلحكيم

Indeed, in the heavens and the earth are signs for the believers. 3

إن في ٱلسموت وٱلأرض لءايت للمؤمنين

And in your creation, and in the creatures He scatters about, are signs for a people who have certainty; and in the alternation of night and day, and what God sends down from the sky as provision, by which He revives the earth after its death, and in the shifting of the winds, are signs for a people who reason. 5

وفي خلقكم وما يبث من دآبة ءايت لقوم يوقنون وٱختلف ٱليل وٱلنهار ومآ أنزل ٱلله من ٱلسمآء من رزق فأحيا به ٱلأرض بعد موتها وتصريف ٱلريح ءايت لقوم يعقلون

These are the signs of God which We recite to you in truth. 6

تلك ءايت ٱلله نتلوها عليك بٱلحق

So in what discourse, after God and His signs, do they believe?i 6

فبأى حديث بعد ٱلله وءايته يؤمنون

Woe to every transgressive liar, who hears the signs of God recited to him, then persists arrogantly, as if he had not heard them. 8

ويل لكل أفاك أثيم يسمع ءايت ٱلله تتلى عليه ثم يصر مستكبرا كأن لم يسمعها

So give him news of a painful punishment. 8

فبشره بعذاب أليم

And when he learns something of Our signs, he takes them in mockery. 9

وإذا علم من ءايتنا شيا ٱتخذها هزوا

Those will have a humiliating punishment. 9

أولئك لهم عذاب مهين

Behind them is Jahannam; and what they earned will not avail them at all, nor will what they took as protectors besides God. 10

من ورآئهم جهنم ولا يغني عنهم ما كسبوا شيا ولا ما ٱتخذوا من دون ٱلله أوليآء

And they will have a tremendous punishment. 10

ولهم عذاب عظيم

This is guidance, 11

هذا هدى

and those who deny the signs of their Guardian will have a punishment of painful torment. 11

وٱلذين كفروا بايت ربهم لهم عذاب من رجز أليم

God is the One who subjected the sea for you, so that ships may sail upon it by His command, and so that you may seek of His bounty, and so that you may be grateful. 12

ٱلله ٱلذي سخر لكم ٱلبحر لتجري ٱلفلك فيه بأمره ولتبتغوا من فضله ولعلكم تشكرون

And He subjected for you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, all from Him. 13

وسخر لكم ما في ٱلسموت وما في ٱلأرض جميعا منه

Indeed, in that are signs for a people who reflect. 13

إن في ذلك لءايت لقوم يتفكرون

Tell those who believe to forgive those who do not expect the days of God, so that He may repay a people for what they used to earn. 14

قل للذين ءامنوا يغفروا للذين لا يرجون أيام ٱلله ليجزي قوما بما كانوا يكسبون

Whoever does good does it for himself, 15

من عمل صلحا فلنفسه

and whoever does evil does it against himself, 15

ومن أسآء فعليها

then to your Guardian you will be returned. 15

ثم إلى ربكم ترجعون

We gave the Children of Israel the Scripture, the judgment, and prophethood; We provided them with good things and favored them above all beings; and We gave them clear proofs concerning the Command.i 17

ولقد ءاتينا بني إسرءيل ٱلكتب وٱلحكم وٱلنبوة ورزقنهم من ٱلطيبت وفضلنهم على ٱلعلمين وءاتينهم بينت من ٱلأمر

They did not differ except after knowledge had come to them, 17

فما ٱختلفوا إلا من بعد ما جآءهم ٱلعلم

out of aggression among themselves. 17

بغيا بينهم

Your Guardian will judge between them on the Day of Appearance concerning that in which they used to differ.i 17

إن ربك يقضي بينهم يوم ٱلقيمة فيما كانوا فيه يختلفون

Then We placed you upon a legislated way from the Command, so follow it, 18

ثم جعلنك على شريعة من ٱلأمر فٱتبعها

and do not follow the emotions [overriding reason] of those who do not know. 18

ولا تتبع أهوآء ٱلذين لا يعلمون

They will not avail you anything against God, 19

إنهم لن يغنوا عنك من ٱلله شيا

and indeed the wrongdoers are allies of one another, 19

وإن ٱلظلمين بعضهم أوليآء بعض

while God is the Ally of those who guard themselves. 19

وٱلله ولي ٱلمتقين

This is insight for the people, and guidance and benevolence for a people who have certainty. 20

هذا بصئر للناس وهدى ورحمة لقوم يوقنون

Or do those who have committed evil deeds think that We will make them like those who believe and do righteous deeds, equal in their life and their death? 21

أم حسب ٱلذين ٱجترحوا ٱلسيات أن نجعلهم كٱلذين ءامنوا وعملوا ٱلصلحت سوآء محياهم ومماتهم

Evil is what they decide. 21

سآء ما يحكمون

God created the heavens and the earth with truth, 22

وخلق ٱلله ٱلسموت وٱلأرض بٱلحق

and so that every Self may be repaid for what it earned, and they will not be wronged. 22

ولتجزى كل نفس بما كسبت وهم لا يظلمون

Have you seen the one who has taken his emotion [overriding reason] as his god? God knowingly left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his Core, and placed a veil over his sight. Who then will guide him after God? 23

أفرءيت من ٱتخذ إلهه هوىه وأضله ٱلله على علم وختم على سمعه وقلبه وجعل على بصره غشوة فمن يهديه من بعد ٱلله

Will you not then remember? 23

أفلا تذكرون

They said: "There is nothing but our present life; we die and we live, and nothing destroys us but time." 24

وقالوا ما هي إلا حياتنا ٱلدنيا نموت ونحيا وما يهلكنآ إلا ٱلدهر

They have no knowledge of that, 24

وما لهم بذلك من علم

they only assume. 24

إن هم إلا يظنون

And when Our clear signs are recited to them, their only argument is to say: "Bring back our forefathers, if you are truthful." 25

وإذا تتلى عليهم ءايتنا بينت ما كان حجتهم إلآ أن قالوا ٱئتوا بابآئنآ إن كنتم صدقين

Say: "God gives you life, then causes you to die, then He will gather you to the Day of Appearance, about which there is no doubt,"i 26

قل ٱلله يحييكم ثم يميتكم ثم يجمعكم إلى يوم ٱلقيمة لا ريب فيه

but most people do not know. 26

ولكن أكثر ٱلناس لا يعلمون

To God belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, 27

ولله ملك ٱلسموت وٱلأرض

and on the day the Hour rises, that day those who deal in falsehood will lose. 27

ويوم تقوم ٱلساعة يومئذ يخسر ٱلمبطلون

You will see every community kneeling, 28

وترى كل أمة جاثية

every community will be called to its record.i 28

كل أمة تدعى إلى كتبها

"Today you are repaid for what you used to do." 28

ٱليوم تجزون ما كنتم تعملون

"This is Our record; it speaks about you in truth,"i 29

هذا كتبنا ينطق عليكم بٱلحق

"We were having transcribed what you used to do." 29

إنا كنا نستنسخ ما كنتم تعملون

As for those who believed and did righteous deeds, their Guardian will admit them into His benevolence; 30

فأما ٱلذين ءامنوا وعملوا ٱلصلحت فيدخلهم ربهم في رحمته

that is the manifest triumph. 30

ذلك هو ٱلفوز ٱلمبين

As for those who denied: "Were not My signs recited to you? But you were arrogant and were a severed people." 31

وأما ٱلذين كفروا أفلم تكن ءايتي تتلى عليكم فٱستكبرتم وكنتم قوما مجرمين

And when it was said: "Indeed the promise of God is true, and the Hour, no doubt about it," you said: "We do not know what the Hour is; we only assume, and we are not certain." 32

وإذا قيل إن وعد ٱلله حق وٱلساعة لا ريب فيها قلتم ما ندري ما ٱلساعة إن نظن إلا ظنا وما نحن بمستيقنين

The evils of what they did will have appeared to them, 33

وبدا لهم سيات ما عملوا

and what they used to mock will have surrounded them. 33

وحاق بهم ما كانوا به يستهزءون

It will be said: "Today We forget you, as you forgot the meeting of this your day; your refuge is the Fire, and you will have no helpers." 34

وقيل ٱليوم ننسىكم كما نسيتم لقآء يومكم هذا ومأوىكم ٱلنار وما لكم من نصرين

"That is because you took the signs of God in mockery, and the present life deceived you." 35

ذلكم بأنكم ٱتخذتم ءايت ٱلله هزوا وغرتكم ٱلحيوة ٱلدنيا

So today they will not be taken out of it, nor will they be allowed to make amends. 35

فٱليوم لا يخرجون منها ولا هم يستعتبون

So to God belongs praise, Guardian of the heavens and Guardian of the earth, Guardian of all beings. 36

فلله ٱلحمد رب ٱلسموت ورب ٱلأرض رب ٱلعلمين

And to Him belongs greatness in the heavens and the earth, 37

وله ٱلكبريآء في ٱلسموت وٱلأرض

and He is the All-Powerful, the Wise.i 37

وهو ٱلعزيز ٱلحكيم
