۞
Muhammad
-
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Those who deny and turn [people] away from the path of God — He renders their deeds astray.i 1
And those who believe and do righteous deeds, and believe in what has been sent down to Muhammad — and it is the truth from their Guardian — He covers their bad deeds and sets right their condition.i 2
That is because those who deny follow falsehood, while those who believe follow the truth from their Guardian. 3
Thus does God multiply for mankind their examples. 3
So when you meet those who deny [the truth in combat], multiply the captives.i 4
Then, when you have subdued them, tighten their bonds firmly, 4
then either grace freely, or exchange of captives, until the war lays down its burdens.i 4
That is so. And if God willed, He would have taken vengeance upon them Himself, 4
but [He does otherwise] so as to test some of you by means of others. 4
And those who fought in the path of God, He will never render their deeds astray.i 4
He will guide them and set right their condition, and admit them to the Garden which He has made known to them. 6
O you who believe, if you support [the cause of] God, He will support you and make firm your feet. 7
And those who deny — ruin be upon them, and He renders their deeds astray. 8
That is because they hated what God sent down, so He made their deeds fruitless. 9
Have they not traveled through the land and seen what was the end of those before them? God destroyed them, 10
and for those who deny is the like thereof. 10
That is because God is the protector of those who believe, while those who deny have no protector. 11
Indeed, God admits those who believe and do righteous deeds into gardens beneath which rivers flow. 12
And those who deny enjoy themselves and eat as cattle eat, and the Fire will be their abode. 12
And how many a city stronger in might than your city which expelled you have We destroyed, and they had no helper. 13
Is he who stands upon clear evidence from his Guardian like one to whom the evil of his deed has been made attractive, and who follow their emotions [overriding reason]? 14
This is the description of the Garden promised to the mindful: therein are rivers of water unaltered, rivers of milk whose taste does not change, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of purified honey, 15
and therein they have of every fruit, and forgiveness from their Guardian — are they like one who abides eternally in the Fire, given to drink boiling water that tears apart their insides? 15
And among them are those who listen to you, until, when they leave your presence, they say to those given knowledge: "What did he say just now?" 16
Those are the ones upon whose Cores God has set a seal, and who follow their emotions. 16
And those who are guided, He increases them in guidance and grants them their mindfulness. 17
Do they await only the Hour, that it come upon them suddenly? Its signs have already come. 18
So how will they benefit, when their reminder comes to them then? 18
So know that there is no deity but God, and ask forgiveness for your wrong and for the believing men and believing women. 19
And God knows your movements and your resting place. 19
And those who believe say: "Why has a surah not been sent down?" 20
But when a decisive surah is sent down and fighting is mentioned therein, you see those in whose Core is a sickness looking at you with the look of one overcome by death. 20
Ruin, then, is more fitting for them. 20
Obedience and a recognized word [would be better].i 21
Then, when the matter is resolved, if only they had been true to God, it would have been better for them. 21
Might you, then, if you turned away, spread corruption on earth and fragment your kinship into rival factions?i 22
Those are the ones God has cursed, so He made them deaf and blinded their sight. 23
Do they not then reflect deeply upon the Recitation, or are there locks upon their Cores? 24
Indeed, those who turned back after guidance had become clear to them — it is the Diverter who enticed them [with fair appearances],i 25
and [the Diverter] dictated it to them.i 25
That is because they have said to those who hate what God has sent down: "We will obey you in part of the matter." 26
And God knows what they conceal. 26
How, then, will it be when the Agents take them in death, multiplying the harvest [of their Self], whether they face them or turn their backs [in flight]?i 27
That is because they followed what angered God and hated His good pleasure, so He made their deeds fruitless. 28
Or do those in whose Cores is a sickness think that God will never bring out their malice? 29
And if We willed, We could show them to you, and you would know them by their mark. 30
And you will surely know them by the tone of their speech. 30
And God knows your actions. 30
And We will surely test you, until We make evident those among you who strive and those who are steadfast, and We will test your accounts.i 31
Indeed, those who deny, turn [people] away from the path of God, and oppose the Messenger after guidance has become clear to them, will not harm God in the least, 32
and He will soon make their deeds fruitless. 32
O you who believe, obey God and obey the Messenger, and do not invalidate your deeds. 33
Indeed, those who deny, turn [people] away from the path of God, then die while they deny [the truth still] — God will never forgive them. 34
So do not weaken and call for peace, while you are the uppermost, and God is with you, 35
and He will never deprive you of [the fruit of] your deeds. 35
This present life is but play and diversion. 36
And if you believe and remain mindful, He will give you your rewards and will not ask you for your wealth. 36
If He were to ask you for it and press you, you would become stingy, and it would bring out your malice. 37
There you are — those called to spend in the path of God — yet among you are some who are stingy, 38
and whoever is stingy is stingy only against himself. 38
And God is Self-Sufficient, 38
while you are the poor.i 38
And if you turn away, He will replace you with another people who will not be like you. 38
