Sourate Adh-Dhariyat (51) with hamza shown

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Benevolent. By those that scatter in scattering, those that bear a heavy load, those that glide with ease, those that distribute a command: what you are promised is indeed true, and the Retribution will, in truth, fall.i 6

بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم وٱلذريت ذروا فٱلحملت وقرا فٱلجريت يسرا فٱلمقسمت أمرا إنما توعدون لصادق وإن ٱلدين لوقع

By the sky of interwoven paths! You are indeed in differing speech: turned away from it is whoever is turned away. 9

وٱلسمآء ذات ٱلحبك إنكم لفي قول مختلف يؤفك عنه من أفك

Cursed be the conjecturers, those who are plunged in blindness, heedless! 11

قتل ٱلخرصون ٱلذين هم في غمرة ساهون

They ask: 'When will the Day of Retribution be?' — the day they will be tried over the Fire. 13

يسلون أيان يوم ٱلدين يوم هم على ٱلنار يفتنون

'Taste your trial.' 14

ذوقوا فتنتكم

This is what you used to seek to hasten. 14

هذا ٱلذي كنتم به تستعجلون

The mindful are, in truth, in gardens and near springs, receiving what their Guardian has given them. 16

إن ٱلمتقين في جنت وعيون ءاخذين مآ ءاتىهم ربهم

They were, before that, doers of good. 16

إنهم كانوا قبل ذلك محسنين

They slept but little 17

كانوا قليلا

throughout the night, finding but little rest. 17

من ٱليل ما يهجعون

and, in the last hours of the night, they would implore forgiveness. 18

وبٱلأسحار هم يستغفرون

And in their wealth there was a due for the one who asks and the one who is deprived [without asking]. 19

وفي أمولهم حق للسآئل وٱلمحروم

And on the earth there are signs for those who have certainty, 20

وفي ٱلأرض ءايت للموقنين

as well as within yourselves.i 21

وفي أنفسكم

Do you not then see? 21

أفلا تبصرون

And in the sky is your provision, 22

وفي ٱلسمآء رزقكم

as well as what you are promised. By the Guardian of the sky and the earth, it is indeed the truth, just as it is true that you speak. 23

وما توعدون فورب ٱلسمآء وٱلأرض إنه لحق مثل مآ أنكم تنطقون

Has the account of Ibrahim's honored guests reached you? When they entered upon him and said: 'Peace!'i 25

هل أتىك حديث ضيف إبرهيم ٱلمكرمين إذ دخلوا عليه فقالوا سلما

he said: 'Peace.' 25

قال سلم

Unfamiliar people. 25

قوم منكرون

He went discreetly to his household, then brought a fat calf and presented it to them, saying: 'Will you not eat?' 27

فراغ إلى أهله فجآء بعجل سمين فقربه إليهم قال ألا تأكلون

He then felt, within himself, a fear of them. 28

فأوجس منهم خيفة

They said: 'Do not be afraid.' 28

قالوا لا تخف

And they gave him good news of a knowledgeable boy. 28

وبشروه بغلم عليم

Then his wife came forward crying out, struck her face, and said: 'An old, barren woman?!' 29

فأقبلت ٱمرأته في صرة فصكت وجهها وقالت عجوز عقيم

They said: 'Thus has your Guardian spoken.' 30

قالوا كذلك قال ربك

He is the Wise, the All-Knowing. 30

إنه هو ٱلحكيم ٱلعليم

He said: 'What then is your errand, O messengers?' 31

قال فما خطبكم أيها ٱلمرسلون

They said: 'We have been sent to a severed people, to pour down upon them stones of clay, marked with your Guardian for the excessive people.' 34

قالوا إنآ أرسلنآ إلى قوم مجرمين لنرسل عليهم حجارة من طين مسومة عند ربك للمسرفين

We brought out from it those who believed, but We found in it only one household of those true to God alone; and We left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment. 37

فأخرجنا من كان فيها من ٱلمؤمنين فما وجدنا فيها غير بيت من ٱلمسلمين وتركنا فيهآ ءاية للذين يخافون ٱلعذاب ٱلأليم

And [there is a sign] in Moussa: when We sent him to Fir'awn with clear authority, he turned away with all his might, and said: 'A worker of illusion, or a madman.'i 39

وفي موسى إذ أرسلنه إلى فرعون بسلطن مبين فتولى بركنه وقال سحر أو مجنون

We seized him, along with his armies, and cast them into the sea, while he was blameworthy. 40

فأخذنه وجنوده فنبذنهم في ٱليم وهو مليم

And for the Recidivists [Aad]: when We sent upon them the barren wind, which left nothing it passed over without reducing it to dust. 42

وفي عاد إذ أرسلنا عليهم ٱلريح ٱلعقيم ما تذر من شىء أتت عليه إلا جعلته كٱلرميم

And in the Depleters [Thamud]: when it was said to them, 'Enjoy yourselves for a while,' but they rebelled against the command of their Guardian, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on. 44

وفي ثمود إذ قيل لهم تمتعوا حتى حين فعتوا عن أمر ربهم فأخذتهم ٱلصعقة وهم ينظرون

They could neither rise up nor find help. 45

فما ٱستطعوا من قيام وما كانوا منتصرين

And the people of Nuh, before that —i 46

وقوم نوح من قبل

they were, indeed, a people of oversteppers. 46

إنهم كانوا قوما فسقين

And the sky, We built it with might, 47

وٱلسمآء بنينها بأييد

and We are indeed expanding [its vastness]. 47

وإنا لموسعون

And the earth, We spread it out [like a carpet]: 48

وٱلأرض فرشنها

what excellent [makers] to arrange it! 48

فنعم ٱلمهدون

And of every thing, We created a pair, so that you may remember. 49

ومن كل شىء خلقنا زوجين لعلكم تذكرون

So flee to God: I am to you, from Him, a clear warner. 50

ففروا إلى ٱلله إني لكم منه نذير مبين

And do not place, alongside God, another deity: I am to you, from Him, a clear warner. 51

ولا تجعلوا مع ٱلله إلها ءاخر إني لكم منه نذير مبين

So it was: 52

كذلك

no messenger came to those before them without their saying: 'A worker of illusion, or a madman.' 52

مآ أتى ٱلذين من قبلهم من رسول إلا قالوا ساحر أو مجنون

Have they passed it down [as a directive] to one another? 53

أتواصوا به

They are rather a people of transgressors. 53

بل هم قوم طاغون

So turn away from them — you will not be blamed at all — and remind, 55

فتول عنهم فمآ أنت بملوم وذكر

for the reminder benefits the believers. 55

فإن ٱلذكرى تنفع ٱلمؤمنين

I did not create the Occulted and mankind except to obey Me.i 56

وما خلقت ٱلجن وٱلإنس إلا ليعبدون

I do not want any provision from them, nor do I want them to feed Me. 57

مآ أريد منهم من رزق ومآ أريد أن يطعمون

God is, indeed, the Provider, the Possessor of strength, the Unshakeable. 58

إن ٱلله هو ٱلرزاق ذو ٱلقوة ٱلمتين

Those who did injustice will have a share [of punishment] like the share of their counterparts: so let them not seek to hasten it. 59

فإن للذين ظلموا ذنوبا مثل ذنوب أصحبهم فلا يستعجلون

So woe to those who deny, because of their day which is promised to them. 60

فويل للذين كفروا من يومهم ٱلذي يوعدون
