Flee to God
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. By those that scatter in scattering, those that bear a heavy load, those that glide with ease, those that distribute a command: what you are promised is indeed true, and the Retribution will, in truth, fall.
بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم وٱلذريت ذروا فٱلحملت وقرا فٱلجريت يسرا فٱلمقسمت أمرا إنما توعدون لصادق وإن ٱلدين لوقعBy the sky of interwoven paths! You are surely in differing speech: turned away from it is whoever is turned away.
وٱلسمآء ذات ٱلحبك إنكم لفي قول مختلف يؤفك عنه من أفكMay the conjecturers perish, those who are plunged in blindness, absent-minded!
قتل ٱلخرصون ٱلذين هم في غمرة ساهونThey ask: 'When will the Day of Retribution be?' — the day they will be tried over the Fire.
يسلون أيان يوم ٱلدين يوم هم على ٱلنار يفتنون'Taste your trial.'
ذوقوا فتنتكمThis is what you used to seek to hasten.
هذا ٱلذي كنتم به تستعجلونThose who guard themselves are, indeed, in gardens and near springs, receiving what their Guardian has given them.
إن ٱلمتقين في جنت وعيون ءاخذين مآ ءاتىهم ربهمThey were indeed, before that, doers of good.
إنهم كانوا قبل ذلك محسنينThey slept but little
كانوا قليلاthroughout the night, finding but little rest.
من ٱليل ما يهجعونand, in the last hours of the night, they would implore forgiveness.
وبٱلأسحار هم يستغفرونAnd in their goods there was a due for the one who asks and the one who is deprived [without asking].
وفي أمولهم حق للسآئل وٱلمحرومAnd on the earth there are signs for those who have certainty,
وفي ٱلأرض ءايت للموقنينas well as within yourselves.
وفي أنفسكمDo you not then see?
أفلا تبصرونAnd in the sky is your provision,
وفي ٱلسمآء رزقكمas well as what you are promised. By the Guardian of the sky and the earth, it is surely the truth, just as it is true that you speak.
وما توعدون فورب ٱلسمآء وٱلأرض إنه لحق مثل مآ أنكم تنطقونHas the account of Ibrahim's honored guests reached you? When they entered upon him and said: 'Peace!'
هل أتىك حديث ضيف إبرهيم ٱلمكرمين إذ دخلوا عليه فقالوا سلماhe said: 'Peace.'
قال سلمPeople I do not recognize.
قوم منكرونHe went discreetly to his household, then brought a fat calf and presented it to them, saying: 'Will you not eat?'
فراغ إلى أهله فجآء بعجل سمين فقربه إليهم قال ألا تأكلونHe then felt, within himself, a fear of them.
فأوجس منهم خيفةThey said: 'Do not fear.'
قالوا لا تخفAnd they gave him good news of a knowledgeable boy.
وبشروه بغلم عليمThen his wife came forward crying out, struck her face, and said: 'An old, barren woman?!'
فأقبلت ٱمرأته في صرة فصكت وجهها وقالت عجوز عقيمThey said: 'Thus has your Guardian spoken.'
قالوا كذلك قال ربكHe is indeed the Wise, the All-Knowing.
إنه هو ٱلحكيم ٱلعليمHe said: 'What then is your errand, O envoys?'
قال فما خطبكم أيها ٱلمرسلونThey said: 'We have been sent to a severed people, to pour down upon them stones of clay, marked with your Guardian for the excessive people.'
قالوا إنآ أرسلنآ إلى قوم مجرمين لنرسل عليهم حجارة من طين مسومة عند ربك للمسرفينWe brought out from it those who believed, but We found in it only one household of those true to God alone; and We left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment.
فأخرجنا من كان فيها من ٱلمؤمنين فما وجدنا فيها غير بيت من ٱلمسلمين وتركنا فيهآ ءاية للذين يخافون ٱلعذاب ٱلأليمAnd [there is a sign] in Moussa: when We sent him to Fir'awn with clear authority, he turned away with all his might, and said: 'A worker of illusion, or a deranged one.'
وفي موسى إذ أرسلنه إلى فرعون بسلطن مبين فتولى بركنه وقال سحر أو مجنونWe seized him, along with his armies, and cast them into the sea, while he was blameworthy.
فأخذنه وجنوده فنبذنهم في ٱليم وهو مليمAnd for the Recidivists [Aad]: when We sent upon them the barren wind, which left nothing it passed over without reducing it to dust.
وفي عاد إذ أرسلنا عليهم ٱلريح ٱلعقيم ما تذر من شىء أتت عليه إلا جعلته كٱلرميمAnd in the Depleters [Thamud]: when it was said to them, 'Enjoy yourselves for a while,' but they insolently defied the command of their Guardian, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on.
وفي ثمود إذ قيل لهم تمتعوا حتى حين فعتوا عن أمر ربهم فأخذتهم ٱلصعقة وهم ينظرونThey could neither rise up nor find help.
فما ٱستطعوا من قيام وما كانوا منتصرينAnd the people of Nuh, before that —
وقوم نوح من قبلthey were, indeed, a people of oversteppers.
إنهم كانوا قوما فسقينAnd the sky, We built it with might,
وٱلسمآء بنينها بأييدand We are surely expanding [its vastness].
وإنا لموسعونAnd the earth, We spread it out [like a carpet]:
وٱلأرض فرشنهاwhat excellent [makers] to arrange it!
فنعم ٱلمهدونAnd of every thing, We created a pair, so that you may remember.
ومن كل شىء خلقنا زوجين لعلكم تذكرونSo flee to God: I am to you, from Him, a clear warner.
ففروا إلى ٱلله إني لكم منه نذير مبينAnd do not place, alongside God, another deity: I am to you, from Him, a clear warner.
ولا تجعلوا مع ٱلله إلها ءاخر إني لكم منه نذير مبينSo it was:
كذلكno messenger came to those before them without their saying: 'A worker of illusion, or a deranged one.'
مآ أتى ٱلذين من قبلهم من رسول إلا قالوا ساحر أو مجنونHave they enjoined it upon one another?
أتواصوا بهThey are rather a people who exceed all measure.
بل هم قوم طاغونSo turn away from them — you will not be blamed at all — and remind,
فتول عنهم فمآ أنت بملوم وذكرfor the reminder benefits the believers.
فإن ٱلذكرى تنفع ٱلمؤمنينI did not create the Occulted and mankind except to obey Me.
وما خلقت ٱلجن وٱلإنس إلا ليعبدونI do not want any provision from them, nor do I want them to feed Me.
مآ أريد منهم من رزق ومآ أريد أن يطعمونGod is, indeed, the Provider, the Possessor of strength, the Unshakeable.
إن ٱلله هو ٱلرزاق ذو ٱلقوة ٱلمتينThose who did injustice will have a share [of punishment] like the share of their companions: so let them not seek to hasten it.
فإن للذين ظلموا ذنوبا مثل ذنوب أصحبهم فلا يستعجلونSo woe to those who disown, because of their day which is promised to them.
فويل للذين كفروا من يومهم ٱلذي يوعدون
