Sourate At-Tur (52) with hamza shown

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Benevolent. By the Mount! By a written record, on an unrolled parchment! By the Frequented House! By the raised canopy! By the sea set aboil! The punishment of your Guardian will, indeed, fall —i 7

بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم وٱلطور وكتب مسطور في رق منشور وٱلبيت ٱلمعمور وٱلسقف ٱلمرفوع وٱلبحر ٱلمسجور إن عذاب ربك لوقع

nothing can repel it. 8

ما له من دافع

The day the sky will be shaken with violent turbulence, and the mountains will set forth in motion — 10

يوم تمور ٱلسمآء مورا وتسير ٱلجبال سيرا

woe, that day, to those who deny, those who frolic in vain discourse. 12

فويل يومئذ للمكذبين ٱلذين هم في خوض يلعبون

The day they will be pushed violently toward the fire of Jahannam, 13

يوم يدعون إلى نار جهنم دعا

'This is the fire you used to deny.' 14

هذه ٱلنار ٱلتي كنتم بها تكذبون

Is this, then, an illusion, or do you not see? 15

أفسحر هذآ أم أنتم لا تبصرون

'Burn in it: whether you are patient or not, it is the same for you.' 16

ٱصلوها فٱصبروا أو لا تصبروا سوآء عليكم

You are only recompensed for what you used to do. 16

إنما تجزون ما كنتم تعملون

The mindful are, indeed, in gardens and delight, rejoicing in what their Guardian has given them, 18

إن ٱلمتقين في جنت ونعيم فكهين بمآ ءاتىهم ربهم

and their Guardian has protected them from the punishment of the Blaze. 18

ووقىهم ربهم عذاب ٱلجحيم

'Eat and drink in ease, for what you used to do,' reclining on aligned couches; and We paired them with wide-eyed houris. 20

كلوا وٱشربوا هنيا بما كنتم تعملون متكين على سرر مصفوفة وزوجنهم بحور عين

And those who believed, and whose descendants followed them in faith, We joined to them their descendants, without diminishing anything from their deeds.i 21

وٱلذين ءامنوا وٱتبعتهم ذريتهم بإيمن ألحقنا بهم ذريتهم ومآ ألتنهم من عملهم من شىء

Every person is bound by what they have earned. 21

كل ٱمرئ بما كسب رهين

We will provide them with fruit and meat, of what they desire; they will pass among themselves a cup wherein there is neither idle talk nor incitement to transgression. 23

وأمددنهم بفكهة ولحم مما يشتهون يتنزعون فيها كأسا لا لغو فيها ولا تأثيم

And there will circulate among them young servants who belong to them, like hidden pearls. 24

ويطوف عليهم غلمان لهم كأنهم لؤلؤ مكنون

And they will turn to one another, questioning, 25

وأقبل بعضهم على بعض يتسآءلون

saying: 'We were before, among our own, filled with apprehension; God has favored us and protected us from the punishment of the scorching wind.' 27

قالوا إنا كنا قبل في أهلنا مشفقين فمن ٱلله علينا ووقىنا عذاب ٱلسموم

'We used to call upon Him before: He is the Benevolent, the Benevolent.' 28

إنا كنا من قبل ندعوه إنه هو ٱلبر ٱلرحيم

So remind: by the favor of your Guardian, you are neither a soothsayer nor deranged. 29

فذكر فمآ أنت بنعمت ربك بكاهن ولا مجنون

Or do they say: 'A beguiling rhetorician, we await for him the blows of fate'?i 30

أم يقولون شاعر نتربص به ريب ٱلمنون

Say: 'Wait, then, 31

قل تربصوا

'I too, with you, am among those who wait.' 31

فإني معكم من ٱلمتربصين

Is it their reason that commands them to this, or are they a people of transgressors? 32

أم تأمرهم أحلمهم بهذآ أم هم قوم طاغون

Or do they say: 'He invented it'? 33

أم يقولون تقوله

They rather do not believe. 33

بل لا يؤمنون

Let them then produce a discourse like it, if they are truthful! 34

فليأتوا بحديث مثله إن كانوا صدقين

Were they created out of nothing, or are they themselves the creators? 35

أم خلقوا من غير شىء أم هم ٱلخلقون

Did they create the heavens and the earth? 36

أم خلقوا ٱلسموت وٱلأرض

They rather have no certainty. 36

بل لا يوقنون

Do they possess the treasuries of your Guardian, or are they the absolute masters? 37

أم عندهم خزآئن ربك أم هم ٱلمصيطرون

Do they have a ladder by which they listen [to the secrets of heaven]? 38

أم لهم سلم يستمعون فيه

Then let their listener bring a clear proof! 38

فليأت مستمعهم بسلطن مبين

Would He have daughters, while you would have sons? 39

أم له ٱلبنت ولكم ٱلبنون

Do you ask them for a wage, such that they are burdened with debt? 40

أم تسلهم أجرا فهم من مغرم مثقلون

Do they possess what escapes the senses, so as to write it down?i 41

أم عندهم ٱلغيب فهم يكتبون

Do they wish to devise a scheme? 42

أم يريدون كيدا

It is rather those who deny who will be caught in their own trap. 42

فٱلذين كفروا هم ٱلمكيدون

Do they have another deity besides God? 43

أم لهم إله غير ٱلله

Glory be to God, far above what they associate with Him! 43

سبحن ٱلله عما يشركون

And if they saw a piece of the sky falling, they would say: 'A heap of clouds.' 44

وإن يروا كسفا من ٱلسمآء ساقطا يقولوا سحاب مركوم

So leave them until they meet their day in which they will be thunderstruck — the day their scheme will not benefit them at all, and they will not be helped. 46

فذرهم حتى يلقوا يومهم ٱلذي فيه يصعقون يوم لا يغني عنهم كيدهم شيا ولا هم ينصرون

And there is, for those who did injustice, a punishment short of that, 47

وإن للذين ظلموا عذابا دون ذلك

but most of them do not know. 47

ولكن أكثرهم لا يعلمون

Be patient with the judgment of your Guardian: you are, indeed, under Our eyes. 48

وٱصبر لحكم ربك فإنك بأعيننا

And glorify, with praise, your Guardian, when you arise, 48

وسبح بحمد ربك حين تقوم

and glorify Him during part of the night, and at the fading of the stars. 49

ومن ٱليل فسبحه وإدبر ٱلنجوم
