Sourate Al-Mujadala (58) with hamza shown

In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. God has certainly heard the words of she who disputes with you about her husband and complains to God; and God hears your exchange.i 1

بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم قد سمع ٱلله قول ٱلتي تجدلك في زوجها وتشتكي إلى ٱلله وٱلله يسمع تحاوركمآ

God is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing. 1

إن ٱلله سميع بصير

Those among you who withdraw intimacy from their wives as they do from their mothers — they are not their mothers.i 2

ٱلذين يظهرون منكم من نسآئهم ما هن أمهتهم

Their mothers are none but those who bore them. 2

إن أمهتهم إلا ٱلي ولدنهم

They are certainly uttering a disavowed and false word.i 2

وإنهم ليقولون منكرا من ٱلقول وزورا

But God pardons and forgives. 2

وإن ٱلله لعفو غفور

And those who withdraw intimacy from their wives in this way, then go back on what they said, shall free a person from the weight of a heavy debt before they touch each other again.i 3

وٱلذين يظهرون من نسآئهم ثم يعودون لما قالوا فتحرير رقبة من قبل أن يتمآسا

This is what you are exhorted to. 3

ذلكم توعظون به

And God is well informed of what you do. 3

وٱلله بما تعملون خبير

Whoever finds no means shall abstain two consecutive months before they touch each other again.i 4

فمن لم يجد فصيام شهرين متتابعين من قبل أن يتمآسا

And whoever cannot shall feed sixty destitute people.i 4

فمن لم يستطع فإطعام ستين مسكينا

This, so that you may believe in God and His messenger. 4

ذلك لتؤمنوا بٱلله ورسوله

These are the limits set by God. 4

وتلك حدود ٱلله

And for those who deny the truth, a painful punishment. 4

وللكفرين عذاب أليم

Those who set themselves against God and His messenger will be brought low, as were those before them. 5

إن ٱلذين يحآدون ٱلله ورسوله كبتوا كما كبت ٱلذين من قبلهم

Yet We have sent down clear signs. 5

وقد أنزلنآ ءايت بينت

And for those who deny the truth, a humiliating punishment. 5

وللكفرين عذاب مهين

The day God resurrects them all and informs them of what they did. 6

يوم يبعثهم ٱلله جميعا فينبئهم بما عملوا

God has kept count of it, while they have forgotten it. 6

أحصىه ٱلله ونسوه

And God is witness over all things. 6

وٱلله على كل شىء شهيد

Do you not see that God knows what is in the heavens and what is on the earth? 7

ألم تر أن ٱلله يعلم ما في ٱلسموت وما في ٱلأرض

There is no secret talk among three but He is their fourth, nor among five but He is their sixth, nor fewer nor more than that but He is with them wherever they are. 7

ما يكون من نجوى ثلثة إلا هو رابعهم ولا خمسة إلا هو سادسهم ولآ أدنى من ذلك ولآ أكثر إلا هو معهم أين ما كانوا

Then He will inform them of what they did, on the Day of Appearance.i 7

ثم ينبئهم بما عملوا يوم ٱلقيمة

God has knowledge of all things. 7

إن ٱلله بكل شىء عليم

Have you not seen those who were forbidden secret talk, then go back to what they were forbidden, and hold secret talk in transgression, hostility, and disobedience to the messenger? 8

ألم تر إلى ٱلذين نهوا عن ٱلنجوى ثم يعودون لما نهوا عنه ويتنجون بٱلإثم وٱلعدون ومعصيت ٱلرسول

And when they come to you, they greet you with a greeting God never greeted you with, and say among themselves: Why does God not punish us for what we say? 8

وإذا جآءوك حيوك بما لم يحيك به ٱلله ويقولون في أنفسهم لولا يعذبنا ٱلله بما نقول

Jahannam is enough for them. 8

حسبهم جهنم

They will burn in it. 8

يصلونها

What a wretched destination! 8

فبئس ٱلمصير

O you who believe, when you hold secret talk, do not hold it in transgression, hostility, and disobedience to the messenger. 9

يأيها ٱلذين ءامنوا إذا تنجيتم فلا تتنجوا بٱلإثم وٱلعدون ومعصيت ٱلرسول

But hold secret talk in righteousness and guardedness.i 9

وتنجوا بٱلبر وٱلتقوى

And guard yourselves before God, to whom you will be gathered.i 9

وٱتقوا ٱلله ٱلذي إليه تحشرون

Secret talk comes only from the Diverter, to grieve those who believe; but it cannot harm them in the least, except by God's leave.i 10

إنما ٱلنجوى من ٱلشيطن ليحزن ٱلذين ءامنوا وليس بضآرهم شيا إلا بإذن ٱلله

And it is in God that the believers should place their trust. 10

وعلى ٱلله فليتوكل ٱلمؤمنون

O you who believe, when you are told to make room in gatherings, make room; God will make room for you. 11

يأيها ٱلذين ءامنوا إذا قيل لكم تفسحوا في ٱلمجلس فٱفسحوا يفسح ٱلله لكم

And when you are told to rise up, rise up; God will raise in rank those among you who believe and those given knowledge. 11

وإذا قيل ٱنشزوا فٱنشزوا يرفع ٱلله ٱلذين ءامنوا منكم وٱلذين أوتوا ٱلعلم درجت

And God is well informed of what you do. 11

وٱلله بما تعملون خبير

O you who believe, when you consult the messenger privately, let your secret talk be preceded by an offering. 12

يأيها ٱلذين ءامنوا إذا نجيتم ٱلرسول فقدموا بين يدى نجوىكم صدقة

That is better for you, and purer. 12

ذلك خير لكم وأطهر

But if you find no means, then God is forgiving, benevolent. 12

فإن لم تجدوا فإن ٱلله غفور رحيم

Were you afraid to have your secret talks preceded by offerings? 13

ءأشفقتم أن تقدموا بين يدى نجوىكم صدقت

Since you did not do it, and God has turned to you in benevolence, maintain the Contact and pay the zakat. 13

فإذ لم تفعلوا وتاب ٱلله عليكم فأقيموا ٱلصلوة وءاتوا ٱلزكوة

And obey God and His messenger. 13

وأطيعوا ٱلله ورسوله

And God is well informed of what you do. 13

وٱلله خبير بما تعملون

Have you not seen those who ally themselves with a people with whom God is angry? They are neither of you nor of them, and they swear to falsehood knowingly. 14

ألم تر إلى ٱلذين تولوا قوما غضب ٱلله عليهم ما هم منكم ولا منهم ويحلفون على ٱلكذب وهم يعلمون

God has prepared for them a severe punishment. 15

أعد ٱلله لهم عذابا شديدا

How evil is what they used to do! 15

إنهم سآء ما كانوا يعملون

They made their oaths a shield and turned others away from God's path; theirs is a humiliating punishment. 16

ٱتخذوا أيمنهم جنة فصدوا عن سبيل ٱلله فلهم عذاب مهين

Neither their wealth nor their children will avail them anything against God. 17

لن تغني عنهم أمولهم ولآ أولدهم من ٱلله شيا

Those are the companions of the Fire, abiding there forever. 17

أولئك أصحب ٱلنار هم فيها خلدون

The day God resurrects them all, they will swear to Him as they swear to you, thinking they stand on something. 18

يوم يبعثهم ٱلله جميعا فيحلفون له كما يحلفون لكم ويحسبون أنهم على شىء

Indeed, they are the liars. 18

ألآ إنهم هم ٱلكذبون

The Diverter has taken hold of them and made them forget the remembrance of God.i 19

ٱستحوذ عليهم ٱلشيطن فأنسىهم ذكر ٱلله

Those are the party of the Diverter.i 19

أولئك حزب ٱلشيطن

Indeed, the party of the Diverter — they are the losers.i 19

ألآ إن حزب ٱلشيطن هم ٱلخسرون

Those who set themselves against God and His messenger are among the most abased. 20

إن ٱلذين يحآدون ٱلله ورسوله أولئك في ٱلأذلين

God has decreed: I shall surely prevail, I and My messengers. 21

كتب ٱلله لأغلبن أنا ورسلي

God is Strong, All-Powerful.i 21

إن ٱلله قوي عزيز

You will not find a people who believe in God and the Last Day loving those who oppose God and His messenger, even if they be their ancestors, sons, brothers, or kin.i 22

لا تجد قوما يؤمنون بٱلله وٱليوم ٱلءاخر يوآدون من حآد ٱلله ورسوله ولو كانوا ءابآءهم أو أبنآءهم أو إخونهم أو عشيرتهم

These are the ones in whose Cores He has inscribed faith, and whom He has strengthened with an Influx from Him, and whom He will admit into gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding there forever. 22

أولئك كتب في قلوبهم ٱلإيمن وأيدهم بروح منه ويدخلهم جنت تجري من تحتها ٱلأنهر خلدين فيها

God is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. 22

رضي ٱلله عنهم ورضوا عنه

Those are the party of God. 22

أولئك حزب ٱلله

Indeed, the party of God — they are the successful. 22

ألآ إن حزب ٱلله هم ٱلمفلحون
