Sourate Nuh (71) with hamza shown

In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Indeed, We sent Nuh to his people, [saying], "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful punishment."i 1

بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم إنآ أرسلنا نوحا إلى قومه أن أنذر قومك من قبل أن يأتيهم عذاب أليم

He said, "O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner: obey God, guard yourselves before Him, and obey me. He will forgive you some of your wrongs and delay you for a specified term.i 4

قال يقوم إني لكم نذير مبين أن ٱعبدوا ٱلله وٱتقوه وأطيعون يغفر لكم من ذنوبكم ويؤخركم إلى أجل مسمى

Indeed, the term of God, when it comes, cannot be delayed, if you only knew." 4

إن أجل ٱلله إذا جآء لا يؤخر لو كنتم تعلمون

He said, "My Guardian, indeed I have called my people night and day, but my call has only increased them in flight. 6

قال رب إني دعوت قومي ليلا ونهارا فلم يزدهم دعآءي إلا فرارا

And indeed, every time I called them, that You might forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments, persisted, and were arrogant with great arrogance." 7

وإني كلما دعوتهم لتغفر لهم جعلوا أصبعهم في ءاذانهم وٱستغشوا ثيابهم وأصروا وٱستكبروا ٱستكبارا

"Then I called them openly. 8

ثم إني دعوتهم جهارا

Then I announced to them publicly and confided to them privately, and said: Ask forgiveness of your Guardian; indeed, He is ever a Great Forgiver. He will send rain from the sky upon you in abundance, and provide you with wealth and children, and give you gardens, and give you rivers. 12

ثم إني أعلنت لهم وأسررت لهم إسرارا فقلت ٱستغفروا ربكم إنه كان غفارا يرسل ٱلسمآء عليكم مدرارا ويمددكم بأمول وبنين ويجعل لكم جنت ويجعل لكم أنهرا

What is with you, that you do not attribute to God due majesty, when He has created you in successive stages? 14

ما لكم لا ترجون لله وقارا وقد خلقكم أطوارا

Do you not see how God has created seven heavens in layers, and made the moon therein a light, and made the sun a lamp? 16

ألم تروا كيف خلق ٱلله سبع سموت طباقا وجعل ٱلقمر فيهن نورا وجعل ٱلشمس سراجا

And God has caused you to grow from the earth as a growth. Then He will return you into it and bring you out a new emergence. 18

وٱلله أنبتكم من ٱلأرض نباتا ثم يعيدكم فيها ويخرجكم إخراجا

And God has made for you the earth an expanse, that you may follow therein wide roads. 20

وٱلله جعل لكم ٱلأرض بساطا لتسلكوا منها سبلا فجاجا

Nuh said, "My Guardian, indeed they have disobeyed me and followed him whose wealth and children increased him not except in loss, and they have plotted a great plot,i 22

قال نوح رب إنهم عصوني وٱتبعوا من لم يزده ماله وولده إلا خسارا ومكروا مكرا كبارا

and said: Never leave your gods, nor leave Wadd, nor Suwa', nor Yaghuth, nor Ya'uq, nor Nasr." 23

وقالوا لا تذرن ءالهتكم ولا تذرن ودا ولا سواعا ولا يغوث ويعوق ونسرا

And they have already led many astray. 24

وقد أضلوا كثيرا

And do not increase the wrongdoers except in error." 24

ولا تزد ٱلظلمين إلا ضللا

Because of their sins they were drowned and put into a fire, and they found none besides God to help them. 25

مما خطيتهم أغرقوا فأدخلوا نارا فلم يجدوا لهم من دون ٱلله أنصارا

And Nuh said, "My Guardian, leave not upon the earth, among the deniers, any dweller.i 26

وقال نوح رب لا تذر على ٱلأرض من ٱلكفرين ديارا

If You leave them, they will mislead Your obedient ones and will not beget except wicked ones, great deniers."i 27

إنك إن تذرهم يضلوا عبادك ولا يلدوا إلا فاجرا كفارا

"My Guardian, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer, and the believing men and believing women, 28

رب ٱغفر لي ولولدى ولمن دخل بيتي مؤمنا وللمؤمنين وٱلمؤمنت

and do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction." 28

ولا تزد ٱلظلمين إلا تبارا
