Sourate Al-Jinn (72) with hamza shown

In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Say, "It has been revealed to me that a group of the Occulted listened, and they said: Indeed, we have heard an amazing recitation, that guides to righteousness, so we have believed in it, and we will never associate anyone with our Guardian.i 2

بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم قل أوحي إلى أنه ٱستمع نفر من ٱلجن فقالوا إنا سمعنا قرءانا عجبا يهدي إلى ٱلرشد فامنا به ولن نشرك بربنآ أحدا

And that exalted is the majesty of our Guardian; He has not taken a wife nor a son. 3

وأنه تعلى جد ربنا ما ٱتخذ صحبة ولا ولدا

And that the foolish among us used to speak, against God, an excessive transgression. 4

وأنه كان يقول سفيهنا على ٱلله شططا

And that we thought that mankind and the Occulted would never speak against God a lie.i 5

وأنا ظننآ أن لن تقول ٱلإنس وٱلجن على ٱلله كذبا

And that there were men among mankind who sought refuge in men among the Occulted, and they only increased them in confusion.i 6

وأنه كان رجال من ٱلإنس يعوذون برجال من ٱلجن فزادوهم رهقا

And that they thought, as you thought, that God would never raise anyone up. 7

وأنهم ظنوا كما ظننتم أن لن يبعث ٱلله أحدا

And that we touched the sky and found it filled with mighty guards and burning stars. 8

وأنا لمسنا ٱلسمآء فوجدنها ملئت حرسا شديدا وشهبا

And that we used to sit in stations for listening, but whoever listens now will find a burning star lying in wait for him. 9

وأنا كنا نقعد منها مقعد للسمع فمن يستمع ٱلءان يجد له شهابا رصدا

And that we do not know whether evil is intended for those on earth, or whether their Guardian intends for them a right course. 10

وأنا لا ندري أشر أريد بمن في ٱلأرض أم أراد بهم ربهم رشدا

And that among us are the righteous, and among us are others not so: 11

وأنا منا ٱلصلحون ومنا دون ذلك

we were of divided ways. 11

كنا طرآئق قددا

And that we became certain that we would never cause failure to God upon earth, nor by fleeing could we cause Him failure. 12

وأنا ظننآ أن لن نعجز ٱلله في ٱلأرض ولن نعجزه هربا

And that when we heard the guidance, we believed in it, 13

وأنا لما سمعنا ٱلهدى ءامنا به

and whoever believes in his Guardian will fear neither loss nor injustice. 13

فمن يؤمن بربه فلا يخاف بخسا ولا رهقا

And that among us are those true to God alone, and among us are the unjust: 14

وأنا منا ٱلمسلمون ومنا ٱلقسطون

and whoever is true to God alone, those have sought right conduct,i 14

فمن أسلم فأولئك تحروا رشدا

but as for the unjust, they became firewood for Jahannam. 15

وأما ٱلقسطون فكانوا لجهنم حطبا

And if they had remained straight on the path, We would have given them abundant water to drink, that We might test them thereby. 17

وألو ٱستقموا على ٱلطريقة لأسقينهم مآء غدقا لنفتنهم فيه

And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Guardian, He will put him into an ever-increasing punishment. 17

ومن يعرض عن ذكر ربه يسلكه عذابا صعدا

And that the places of prostration belong to God, so do not invoke besides God anyone. 18

وأن ٱلمسجد لله فلا تدعوا مع ٱلله أحدا

And that when the obedient ones one of God stood up calling upon Him, they almost crowded him in dense multitude. 19

وأنه لما قام عبد ٱلله يدعوه كادوا يكونون عليه لبدا

Say, "I only invoke my Guardian and do not associate with Him anyone." 20

قل إنمآ أدعوا ربي ولآ أشرك به أحدا

Say, "I hold not for you power of harm or right direction." 21

قل إني لآ أملك لكم ضرا ولا رشدا

Say, "No one can protect me from God, and I will never find besides Him a refuge — except a notification from God and His messages." 23

قل إني لن يجيرني من ٱلله أحد ولن أجد من دونه ملتحدا إلا بلغا من ٱلله ورسلته

And whoever disobeys God and His Messenger, indeed, for him is the fire of Jahannam, abiding therein forever. 23

ومن يعص ٱلله ورسوله فإن له نار جهنم خلدين فيهآ أبدا

Until, when they see that which they are promised, they will know who is weaker in helpers and less in number. 24

حتى إذا رأوا ما يوعدون فسيعلمون من أضعف ناصرا وأقل عددا

Say, "I do not know whether what you are promised is near, or whether my Guardian will set for it a distant term." 25

قل إن أدري أقريب ما توعدون أم يجعل له ربي أمدا

[He is] Knower of what escapes the senses, and He discloses none of it to anyone, except a messenger He has approved of. He then sends before him and behind him a watch, so that He may know that they have conveyed the messages of their Guardian; and He encompasses whatever is with them and enumerates all things with exactness.i 28

علم ٱلغيب فلا يظهر على غيبه أحدا إلا من ٱرتضى من رسول فإنه يسلك من بين يديه ومن خلفه رصدا ليعلم أن قد أبلغوا رسلت ربهم وأحاط بما لديهم وأحصى كل شىء عددا
