Sourate An-Naba (78) with hamza shown

In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. About what?i 1

بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم عم

They are asking one another about the great News, over which they are in disagreement. 3

يتسآءلون عن ٱلنبإ ٱلعظيم ٱلذي هم فيه مختلفون

No! They will know. Then again, no! They will know. 5

كلا سيعلمون ثم كلا سيعلمون

Have We not made the earth a resting place, and the mountains as pegs? Have We not created you in pairs, and made your sleep a rest? Have We not made the night a covering, and the day for livelihood? Have We not built above you seven strong [heavens], and placed therein a blazing lamp? And sent down from the pressing clouds abundant water, that We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation, and gardens of thick foliage? 16

ألم نجعل ٱلأرض مهدا وٱلجبال أوتادا وخلقنكم أزوجا وجعلنا نومكم سباتا وجعلنا ٱليل لباسا وجعلنا ٱلنهار معاشا وبنينا فوقكم سبعا شدادا وجعلنا سراجا وهاجا وأنزلنا من ٱلمعصرت مآء ثجاجا لنخرج به حبا ونباتا وجنت ألفافا

Indeed, the Day of Separation is an appointed time — the Day the Horn is blown, and you come in multitudes, and the sky is opened and becomes gates, and the mountains are set moving and become a mirage. 20

إن يوم ٱلفصل كان ميقتا يوم ينفخ في ٱلصور فتأتون أفواجا وفتحت ٱلسمآء فكانت أبوبا وسيرت ٱلجبال فكانت سرابا

Indeed, Jahannam is ever watching — a place of return for the transgressors, wherein they will remain for ages. 23

إن جهنم كانت مرصادا للطغين مابا لبثين فيهآ أحقابا

They will taste therein neither coolness nor drink, except scalding water and a foul, dark fluid — a fitting recompense. 26

لا يذوقون فيها بردا ولا شرابا إلا حميما وغساقا جزآء وفاقا

Indeed, they were not expecting a reckoning, and they denied Our signs with emphatic denial. 28

إنهم كانوا لا يرجون حسابا وكذبوا بايتنا كذابا

But everything We have enumerated in a record.i 29

وكل شىء أحصينه كتبا

So taste! We will only increase you in punishment. 30

فذوقوا فلن نزيدكم إلا عذابا

Indeed, for those who guarded themselves is an attainment - gardens and vineyards, and companions full of vitality, fertile and of shared stock, and a brimming cup. They will hear therein neither vain talk nor lies -i 35

إن للمتقين مفازا حدآئق وأعنبا وكواعب أترابا وكأسا دهاقا لا يسمعون فيها لغوا ولا كذبا

a reward from your Guardian, a gift, well accounted, 36

جزآء من ربك عطآء حسابا

Guardian of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, 37

رب ٱلسموت وٱلأرض وما بينهما

the Benevolent; they possess no right to address Him, 37

ٱلرحمن لا يملكون منه خطابا

the Day the Influx and the Agents will stand in ranks, none speaking except one to whom the Benevolent has given permission, and who will say what is right.i 38

يوم يقوم ٱلروح وٱلملئكة صفا لا يتكلمون إلا من أذن له ٱلرحمن وقال صوابا

That is the True Day. 39

ذلك ٱليوم ٱلحق

So whoever wills may take refuge with his Guardian. 39

فمن شآء ٱتخذ إلى ربه مابا

Indeed, We have warned you of an imminent punishment — the Day when man will observe what his hands have sent forth, and the one who rejects will say, "Oh, that I were earth!" 40

إنآ أنذرنكم عذابا قريبا يوم ينظر ٱلمرء ما قدمت يداه ويقول ٱلكافر يليتني كنت تربا
