Al-Mutaffifin
The Rigged Measure
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Woe to the defrauders, who, when they take a measure from people, exact full measure, and when they measure or weigh for them, cause loss.
بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم ويل للمطففين ٱلذين إذا ٱكتالوا على ٱلناس يستوفون وإذا كالوهم أو وزنوهم يخسرونDo they not think that they will be resurrected for an immense Day, the Day when mankind will stand before the Guardian of all beings?
ألا يظن أولئك أنهم مبعوثون ليوم عظيم يوم يقوم ٱلناس لرب ٱلعلمينBy no means! Surely, the record of the depraved is in Sijjin.
كلآ إن كتب ٱلفجار لفي سجينAnd what will make you know what Sijjin is? A written record.
ومآ أدرىك ما سجين كتب مرقومWoe, that Day, to the deniers, those who deny the Day of Retribution.
ويل يومئذ للمكذبين ٱلذين يكذبون بيوم ٱلدينAnd none denies it except every crosser of limits, a transgressor; when Our signs are read to him, he says, "Legends of the ancients!"
وما يكذب به إلا كل معتد أثيم إذا تتلى عليه ءايتنا قال أسطير ٱلأولينBy no means! Rather, what they were earning has rusted their cores.
كلا بل ران على قلوبهم ما كانوا يكسبونBy no means! Surely, from their Guardian, that Day, they will be veiled.
كلآ إنهم عن ربهم يومئذ لمحجوبونThen surely, they will burn in the Blaze.
ثم إنهم لصالوا ٱلجحيمThen it will be said, "This is what you used to deny."
ثم يقال هذا ٱلذي كنتم به تكذبونBy no means! Surely, the record of the virtuous is in 'Illiyyun.
كلآ إن كتب ٱلأبرار لفي عليينAnd what will make you know what 'Illiyyun is? A written record, witnessed by those brought near.
ومآ أدرىك ما عليون كتب مرقوم يشهده ٱلمقربونSurely, the virtuous will be in bliss, on adorned couches, observing; you will recognize in their faces the radiance of bliss; they will be given drink from a sealed nectar, whose seal is musk.
إن ٱلأبرار لفي نعيم على ٱلأرآئك ينظرون تعرف في وجوههم نضرة ٱلنعيم يسقون من رحيق مختوم ختمه مسكAnd for this let the competitors compete.
وفي ذلك فليتنافس ٱلمتنفسونAnd its mixture is of Tasnim, a spring from which those brought near drink.
ومزاجه من تسنيم عينا يشرب بها ٱلمقربونIndeed, those who cut themselves off used to laugh at those who believed, and when they passed by them, they winked at one another, and when they returned to their people, they returned delighting, and when they saw them, they said, "Indeed, these are truly astray" — while they had not been sent as guardians over them.
إن ٱلذين أجرموا كانوا من ٱلذين ءامنوا يضحكون وإذا مروا بهم يتغامزون وإذا ٱنقلبوا إلى أهلهم ٱنقلبوا فكهين وإذا رأوهم قالوا إن هؤلآء لضآلون ومآ أرسلوا عليهم حفظينSo today those who believed are laughing at the disowners, upon adorned couches.
فٱليوم ٱلذين ءامنوا من ٱلكفار يضحكون على ٱلأرآئكObserving: have the disowners received the return of what they used to do?
ينظرون هل ثوب ٱلكفار ما كانوا يفعلون
