Sourate Al-Mutaffifin (83) with hamza shown

In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Woe to the defrauders, who, when they take a measure from people, exact full measure, and when they measure or weigh for them, cause loss.i 3

بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم ويل للمطففين ٱلذين إذا ٱكتالوا على ٱلناس يستوفون وإذا كالوهم أو وزنوهم يخسرون

Do they not think that they will be resurrected for a tremendous Day, the Day when mankind will stand before the Guardian of all beings?i 6

ألا يظن أولئك أنهم مبعوثون ليوم عظيم يوم يقوم ٱلناس لرب ٱلعلمين

No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in Sijjin.i 7

كلآ إن كتب ٱلفجار لفي سجين

And what can make you know what Sijjin is? A written record.i 9

ومآ أدرىك ما سجين كتب مرقوم

Woe, that Day, to the deniers, those who deny the Day of Recompense.i 11

ويل يومئذ للمكذبين ٱلذين يكذبون بيوم ٱلدين

And none denies it except every transgressor, a characterized offender; when Our signs are read to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples!" 13

وما يكذب به إلا كل معتد أثيم إذا تتلى عليه ءايتنا قال أسطير ٱلأولين

No! Rather, what they were earning has rusted their cores. 14

كلا بل ران على قلوبهم ما كانوا يكسبون

No! Indeed, from their Guardian, that Day, they will be partitioned. 15

كلآ إنهم عن ربهم يومئذ لمحجوبون

Then indeed, they will burn in the Blaze.i 16

ثم إنهم لصالوا ٱلجحيم

Then it will be said, "This is what you used to deny." 17

ثم يقال هذا ٱلذي كنتم به تكذبون

No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyyun.i 18

كلآ إن كتب ٱلأبرار لفي عليين

And what can make you know what 'Illiyyun is? A written record, witnessed by those brought near.i 21

ومآ أدرىك ما عليون كتب مرقوم يشهده ٱلمقربون

Indeed, the righteous will be in delight, on adorned couches, observing; you will recognize in their faces the radiance of delight; they will be given drink from a sealed nectar, whose seal is musk. 26

إن ٱلأبرار لفي نعيم على ٱلأرآئك ينظرون تعرف في وجوههم نضرة ٱلنعيم يسقون من رحيق مختوم ختمه مسك

And for this let the competitors compete. 26

وفي ذلك فليتنافس ٱلمتنفسون

And its mixture is of Tasnim, a spring from which those brought near drink. 28

ومزاجه من تسنيم عينا يشرب بها ٱلمقربون

Indeed, those who cut themselves off used to laugh at those who believed, and when they passed by them, they winked at one another, and when they returned to their people, they returned jesting, and when they saw them, they said, "Indeed, these are truly astray" — while they had not been sent as guardians over them. 33

إن ٱلذين أجرموا كانوا من ٱلذين ءامنوا يضحكون وإذا مروا بهم يتغامزون وإذا ٱنقلبوا إلى أهلهم ٱنقلبوا فكهين وإذا رأوهم قالوا إن هؤلآء لضآلون ومآ أرسلوا عليهم حفظين

So today those who believed are laughing at the rejecters, upon adorned couches. 35

فٱليوم ٱلذين ءامنوا من ٱلكفار يضحكون على ٱلأرآئك

Observing: have the rejecters been rewarded for what they used to do? 36

ينظرون هل ثوب ٱلكفار ما كانوا يفعلون
