Al-Inshiqaq
Toiling Toward the Guardian
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. When the sky splits open, and listens to its Guardian — and it is obligated to do so —, and when the earth is extended, and casts out what is within it and empties itself, and listens to its Guardian — and it is obligated to do so.
بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم إذا ٱلسمآء ٱنشقت وأذنت لربها وحقت وإذا ٱلأرض مدت وألقت ما فيها وتخلت وأذنت لربها وحقتO human being! Indeed, you are laboring toward your Guardian with great exertion and will meet Him.
يأيها ٱلإنسن إنك كادح إلى ربك كدحا فملقيهThen as for him who is given his record in his right hand, he will be reckoned an easy reckoning, and return to his people in joy.
فأما من أوتي كتبه بيمينه فسوف يحاسب حسابا يسيرا وينقلب إلى أهله مسروراBut as for him who is given his record behind his back, he will cry out for destruction, and he will burn in an inferno.
وأما من أوتي كتبه ورآء ظهره فسوف يدعوا ثبورا ويصلى سعيراIndeed, he had been joyful among his people.
إنه كان في أهله مسروراIndeed, he thought he would never return. But yes!
إنه ظن أن لن يحور بلىIndeed, his Guardian was ever All-Seeing of him.
إن ربه كان به بصيراNo! I swear by the twilight glow, and by the night and what it envelops, and by the moon when it becomes full! You will surely embark upon state after state.
فلآ أقسم بٱلشفق وٱليل وما وسق وٱلقمر إذا ٱتسق لتركبن طبقا عن طبقSo what is the matter with them that they do not believe? And when the Recitation is read to them, they do not prostrate?
فما لهم لا يؤمنون وإذا قرئ عليهم ٱلقرءان لا يسجدونRather, those who have disowned deny, and God knows best what they keep within.
بل ٱلذين كفروا يكذبون وٱلله أعلم بما يوعونSo give them the tidings of a painful punishment,
فبشرهم بعذاب أليمexcept for those who have believed and done righteous deeds; for them is a reward never interrupted.
إلا ٱلذين ءامنوا وعملوا ٱلصلحت لهم أجر غير ممنون
