Pourquoi ce calendrier, et pourquoi le Nassii' ?
Ce calendrier repose sur le calcul astronomique du « Fateh », un système luni-solaire fondé sur le cycle de Méton (19 années lunaires = 235 mois lunaires). Sur cette période, sept années sont dites embolismiques : elles comptent 13 mois au lieu de 12, par l'insertion d'un mois intercalaire, le « Nassii' », entre Rabî' al-Awwal et Rabî' al-Thani. Cette correction périodique permet au début de l'année de rester ancré près du printemps d'année en année, au lieu de dériver à travers les saisons comme c'est le cas dans le calendrier hégirien purement lunaire utilisé aujourd'hui, qui avance d'environ 11 jours chaque année solaire.
Nous avons réintégré le mois de Nassii' en partant du constat que le Coran ne parle pas de l'abolition du principe d'intercalation en lui-même, mais condamne, au verset 37 de la sourate At-Tawba, son détournement politique : le report ou l'avancement des mois sacrés selon l'intérêt du moment pour déclarer la guerre ou la trêve. Ce calendrier est donc une tentative de dissocier l'ajustement astronomique rigoureux de la succession des mois de ce détournement politique condamné, tout en conservant les douze noms de mois d'origine et leur position stable dans le cycle des saisons.
