قبح

Core meaning

To strike with ugliness and rejection: the condition of those whom a sentence sets aside and disgraces.

Uses

1. ٱلْمَقْبُوحِين → "the disfigured" : those whom the judgment rejects and marks with disgrace.

   • «وَيَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ هُم مِّنَ ٱلْمَقْبُوحِينَ» — "and on the Day of Appearance they will be among the disfigured" (28:42)

Evidence from the text

The root occurs only once, at the close of the account of Fir'awn and his troops. The verse sets two moments side by side: "And We made a curse follow them in the present life" (28:42), then, on the Day of Appearance, their place among the disfigured. The curse sets them aside here below; ٱلْمَقْبُوحِين names the state in which the judgment leaves them: rejected, and marked with that disgrace.
