What you read here is not a text cut up mechanically. Every "phrase" in this Quran was born of real human labour: for months, AbuIlyass (أبو إلياس) listened to all sixty hizb recited by Moroccan students — these traditional reciters and knowledge-bearers — recorded in 24 cities across the Kingdom of Morocco: Fez, Marrakesh, Rabat, and others — two different cities for each hizb. Each time the student marked a natural pause — to mark a punctuation or close a unit of meaning, known as the waqf — AbuIlyass pressed "Enter". It is this living pause, not an algorithm, that drew the boundaries you see between each line.

These anonymous reciters, who pass on the living rhythm of the text from generation to generation within their own chests — without their names ever appearing in any book — are sometimes called "shadow scribes." This segmentation is therefore not arbitrary: it respects human breath, and restores the authentic performance of the Moroccan oral tradition of Quranic recitation, rather than a mechanical division cut off from the voice that actually carries it.

This is why the text on this site is displayed by phrase (breath-unit) rather than by whole verse: a single verse may contain several breath-phrases, or a phrase may run past a verse boundary — the cut always follows the reciter's breathing, never the numbering alone.
