Al-An'am
The Guardian of Every Thing
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Praise be to God, who created the heavens and the earth, and made the darknesses and the light; yet those who disown set up equals to their Guardian.
بِسْمِ اِ۬للَّهِ اِ۬لرَّحْمَٰنِ اِ۬لرَّحِيمِ اِ۬لْحَمْدُ لِلهِ اِ۬لذِے خَلَقَ اَ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَجَعَلَ اَ۬لظُّلُمَٰتِ وَالنُّورَ ثُمَّ اَ۬لذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِرَبِّهِمْ يَعْدِلُونَۖ
It is He who created you from clay, then decreed a term —
هُوَ اَ۬لذِے خَلَقَكُم مِّن طِينٖ ثُمَّ قَضَىٰ أَجَلاٗۖ
and an appointed term, with Him.
وَأَجَلٞ مُّسَمّىً عِندَهُۥۖ
Yet still you contend.
ثُمَّ أَنتُمْ تَمْتَرُونَۖ
And He is God,
وَهْوَ اَ۬للَّهُ
in the heavens and on the earth; He knows your secret and what you say aloud, and He knows what you earn.
فِے اِ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَفِے اِ۬لْأَرْضِ يَعْلَمُ سِرَّكُمْ وَجَهْرَكُمْ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تَكْسِبُونَۖ
No sign, among the signs of their Guardian, comes to them without their turning away from it.
وَمَا تَأْتِيهِم مِّنْ ءَايَةٖ مِّنْ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَّا كَانُواْ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَۖ
So they have denied the truth, when it came to them;
فَقَدْ كَذَّبُواْ بِالْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمْۖ
the information of what they used to mock will soon reach them.
فَسَوْفَ يَأْتِيهِمْ أَنۢبَٰٓؤُاْ مَا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَۖ
Do they not see how many generations We annihilated before them, whom We had established on the earth as We have not established you,
أَلَمْ يَرَوْاْ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن قَرْنٖ مَّكَّنَّٰهُمْ فِے اِ۬لْأَرْضِ مَا لَمْ نُمَكِّن لَّكُمْۖ
and to whom We sent the sky in copious streams,
وَأَرْسَلْنَا اَ۬لسَّمَآءَ عَلَيْهِم مِّدْرَاراٗۖ
and We made the rivers flow beneath them; then We annihilated them for their offenses,
وَجَعَلْنَا اَ۬لْأَنْهَٰرَ تَجْرِے مِن تَحْتِهِمْ فَأَهْلَكْنَٰهُم بِذُنُوبِهِمْۖ
and We brought into being, after them, another generation.
وَأَنشَأْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ قَرْناً ءَاخَرِينَۖ
And had We sent down upon you a writing on parchment, and they had touched it with their hands, those who disown would certainly have said: "This is nothing but a manifest illusion."
وَلَوْ نَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكَ كِتَٰباٗ فِے قِرْطَاسٖ فَلَمَسُوهُ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ لَقَالَ اَ۬لذِينَ كَفَرُواْ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٞ مُّبِينٞۖ
And they say: "Why has an Agent not been sent down upon him!"
وَقَالُواْ لَوْلَا أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ مَلَكٞۖ
And had We sent down an Agent, the matter would already have been decided, and they would be granted no delay.
وَلَوْ أَنزَلْنَا مَلَكاٗ لَّقُضِيَ اَ۬لْأَمْرُ ثُمَّ لَا يُنظَرُونَۖ
And had We made him an Agent, We would have made him a man, and We would have blurred for them what they themselves blur.
وَلَوْ جَعَلْنَٰهُ مَلَكاٗ لَّجَعَلْنَٰهُ رَجُلاٗ وَلَلَبَسْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّا يَلْبِسُونَۖ
Messengers before you were indeed mocked; then what they used to mock enveloped those among them who scoffed.
وَلَقَدُ اُ۟سْتُهْزِۓَ بِرُسُلٖ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَحَاقَ بِالذِينَ سَخِرُواْ مِنْهُم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَۖ
Say: "Travel through the earth, then look at what was the end of those who denied."
قُلْ سِيرُواْ فِے اِ۬لْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ اَ۟نظُرُواْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ اُ۬لْمُكَذِّبِينَۖ
Say: "To whom belongs what is in the heavens and on the earth?" Say: "To God.
قُل لِّمَن مَّا فِے اِ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ قُل لِّلهِۖ
He has prescribed benevolence upon Himself.
كَتَبَ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ اِ۬لرَّحْمَةَۖ
He will surely bring you together on the Day of Appearance, about which there is no doubt.
لَيَجْمَعَنَّكُمْ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ اِ۬لْقِيَٰمَةِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِۖ
Those who will have caused the loss of their Selves, those are the ones who do not believe."
اِ۬لذِينَ خَسِرُواْ أَنفُسَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَۖ
And to Him belongs what rests in the night and the day;
۞ وَلَهُۥ مَا سَكَنَ فِے اِ۬ليْلِ وَالنَّهَارِۖ
and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
وَهْوَ اَ۬لسَّمِيعُ اُ۬لْعَلِيمُۖ
Say: "Should I take a protector other than God, the Originator of the heavens and the earth,
قُلْ أَغَيْرَ اَ۬للَّهِ أَتَّخِذُ وَلِيّاٗ فَاطِرِ اِ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِۖ
it is He who feeds and is not fed."
وَهْوَ يُطْعِمُ وَلَا يُطْعَمُۖ
Say: "I have been commanded to be the first of those who are true to God alone",
قُلْ إِنِّيَ أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ أَسْلَمَۖ
and never be among those who associate.
وَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ اَ۬لْمُشْرِكِينَۖ
Say: "I indeed fear, if I disobey my Guardian, the punishment of an immense day."
قُلْ إِنِّيَ أَخَافُ إِنْ عَصَيْتُ رَبِّے عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٖۖ
Whoever is turned away from it, on that day, He will have shown him benevolence,
مَّنْ يُّصْرَفْ عَنْهُ يَوْمَئِذٖ فَقَدْ رَحِمَهُۥۖ
and that is the manifest triumph.
وَذَٰلِكَ اَ۬لْفَوْزُ اُ۬لْمُبِينُۖ
And if God touches you with harm, none can remove it but Him;
وَإِنْ يَّمْسَسْكَ اَ۬للَّهُ بِضُرّٖ فَلَا كَاشِفَ لَهُۥ إِلَّا هُوَۖ
and if He touches you with good, He is capable of all things.
وَإِنْ يَّمْسَسْكَ بِخَيْرٖ فَهْوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَےْءٖ قَدِيرٞۖ
He subjugates above His obedient ones,
وَهْوَ اَ۬لْقَاهِرُ فَوْقَ عِبَادِهِۦۖ
and He is the Wise, the Intimately Acquainted.
وَهْوَ اَ۬لْحَكِيمُ اُ۬لْخَبِيرُۖ
Say: "What thing is greatest in testimony?" Say: "God,
قُلْ أَيُّ شَےْءٍ أَكْبَرُ شَهَٰدَةٗ قُلِ اِ۬للَّهُۖ
witness between me and you.
شَهِيدُۢ بَيْنِے وَبَيْنَكُمْۖ
And this Recitation was revealed to me so that I might warn you by it, and whoever it reaches.
وَأُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ هَٰذَا اَ۬لْقُرْءَانُ لِأُنذِرَكُم بِهِۦ وَمَنۢ بَلَغَۖ
Do you really bear witness that there are, with God, other deities?" Say: "I do not bear witness."
أَٰئِنَّكُمْ لَتَشْهَدُونَ أَنَّ مَعَ اَ۬للَّهِ ءَالِهَةً أُخْرَىٰ قُل لَّا أَشْهَدُۖ
Say: "He is only one deity,
قُلْ إِنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَٰهٞ وَٰحِدٞۖ
and I am indeed quit of what you associate."
وَإِنَّنِے بَرِےٓءٞ مِّمَّا تُشْرِكُونَۖ
Those to whom We gave the Scripture recognize it as they recognize their own sons;
اَ۬لذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمُ اُ۬لْكِتَٰبَ يَعْرِفُونَهُۥ كَمَا يَعْرِفُونَ أَبْنَآءَهُمُۖ
those who will have caused the loss of their Selves, those are the ones who do not believe.
اُ۬لذِينَ خَسِرُواْ أَنفُسَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَۖ
And who then does more wrong than one who invents a lie against God, or denies His signs?
وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ اِ۪فْتَرَىٰ عَلَى اَ۬للَّهِ كَذِباً أَوْ كَذَّبَ بِـَٔايَٰتِهِۦۖ
The wrongdoers indeed do not succeed.
إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ اُ۬لظَّٰلِمُونَۖ
And the day when We gather them all together, then say to those who associated: "Where are your associates, whom you used to claim?"
وَيَوْمَ نَحْشُرُهُمْ جَمِيعاٗ ثُمَّ نَقُولُ لِلذِينَ أَشْرَكُواْ أَيْنَ شُرَكَآؤُكُمُ اُ۬لذِينَ كُنتُمْ تَزْعُمُونَۖ
Then their only trial will have been to say: "By God, our Guardian, we were not among those who associate."
ثُمَّ لَمْ تَكُن فِتْنَتَهُمْ إِلَّا أَن قَالُواْ وَاللَّهِ رَبِّنَا مَا كُنَّا مُشْرِكِينَۖ
Look how they lie against themselves! And what they used to invent will have strayed away from them.
اَ۟نظُرْ كَيْفَ كَذَبُواْ عَلَىٰ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يَفْتَرُونَۖ
And among them are some who listen to you,
وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ يَّسْتَمِعُ إِلَيْكَۖ
but We have placed over their cores coverings, so that they do not understand it, and in their ears a deafness.
وَجَعَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ أَكِنَّةً أَنْ يَّفْقَهُوهُ وَفِے ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَقْراٗۖ
And even if they saw every sign, they would not believe in it,
وَإِنْ يَّرَوْاْ كُلَّ ءَايَةٖ لَّا يُؤْمِنُواْ بِهَاۖ
to the point that, when they come to you to argue, those who disown say: "These are nothing but legends of the ancients."
حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَآءُوكَ يُجَٰدِلُونَكَ يَقُولُ اُ۬لذِينَ كَفَرُواْ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا أَسَٰطِيرُ اُ۬لْأَوَّلِينَۖ
And they forbid it, and they draw away from it;
۞ وَهُمْ يَنْهَوْنَ عَنْهُ وَيَنْـَٔوْنَ عَنْهُۖ
and they annihilate none but themselves, without sensing it.
وَإِنْ يُّهْلِكُونَ إِلَّا أَنفُسَهُمْ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَۖ
And if you could see, when they will be halted before the Fire, and say: "Ah, if only we were sent back,
وَلَوْ تَرَىٰ إِذْ وُقِفُواْ عَلَى اَ۬لنَّارِ فَقَالُواْ يَٰلَيْتَنَا نُرَدُّۖ
and we will no longer deny the signs of our Guardian, and we will be among the believers!"
وَلَا نُكَذِّبُ بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّنَا وَنَكُونُ مِنَ اَ۬لْمُؤْمِنِينَۖ
No! What they used to hide before has appeared to them.
بَلْ بَدَا لَهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يُخْفُونَ مِن قَبْلُۖ
And were they sent back, they would certainly repeat what they had been forbidden,
وَلَوْ رُدُّواْ لَعَادُواْ لِمَا نُهُواْ عَنْهُۖ
and they are surely liars.
وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَۖ
And they say: "There is nothing but our present life, and we will not be raised."
وَقَالُواْ إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا اَ۬لدُّنْيَا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَبْعُوثِينَۖ
And if you could see, when they will be halted before their Guardian! He will say: "Is this not the truth?"
وَلَوْ تَرَىٰ إِذْ وُقِفُواْ عَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ هَٰذَا بِالْحَقِّۖ
They will say: "Yes, by our Guardian!"
قَالُواْ بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّنَاۖ
He will say: "Taste then the punishment, for having disowned."
قَالَ فَذُوقُواْ اُ۬لْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَۖ
They are indeed losers, those who have denied the meeting with God, to the point that, when the Hour comes upon them unexpectedly, they say: "What desolation for us, for what we neglected in it!" They will bear their burdens on their backs.
قَدْ خَسِرَ اَ۬لذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِلِقَآءِ اِ۬للَّهِ حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَآءَتْهُمُ اُ۬لسَّاعَةُ بَغْتَةٗ قَالُواْ يَٰحَسْرَتَنَا عَلَىٰ مَا فَرَّطْنَا فِيهَا وَهُمْ يَحْمِلُونَ أَوْزَارَهُمْ عَلَىٰ ظُهُورِهِمْۖ
How evil is the burden they bear!
أَلَا سَآءَ مَا يَزِرُونَۖ
The present life is nothing but play and distraction;
وَمَا اَ۬لْحَيَوٰةُ اُ۬لدُّنْيَا إِلَّا لَعِبٞ وَلَهْوٞۖ
and the last abode is indeed better for those who guard themselves.
وَلَلدَّارُ اُ۬لْأٓخِرَةُ خَيْرٞ لِّلذِينَ يَتَّقُونَۖ
Will you not then reason?
أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَۖ
We will indeed know that what they say surely grieves you;
قَدْ نَعْلَمُ إِنَّهُۥ لَيُحْزِنُكَ اَ۬لذِے يَقُولُونَۖ
but it is not you they deny,
فَإِنَّهُمْ لَا يُكْذِبُونَكَۖ
but it is the signs of God that the wrongdoers stubbornly reject.
وَلَٰكِنَّ اَ۬لظَّٰلِمِينَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ اِ۬للَّهِ يَجْحَدُونَۖ
Messengers were indeed denied before you; denied and troubled, they endured until Our help came to them.
وَلَقَدْ كُذِّبَتْ رُسُلٞ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَصَبَرُواْ عَلَىٰ مَا كُذِّبُواْ وَأُوذُواْ حَتَّىٰ أَتَيٰهُمْ نَصْرُنَاۖ
And none can change the words of God.
وَلَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَٰتِ اِ۬للَّهِۖ
Some of the information about the envoys has indeed already reached you.
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَكَ مِن نَّبَإِےْ اِ۬لْمُرْسَلِينَۖ
And if their turning away weighs upon you, then, if you have the capacity, seek a tunnel into the earth, or a ladder into the sky, to bring them a sign.
وَإِن كَانَ كَبُرَ عَلَيْكَ إِعْرَاضُهُمْ فَإِنِ اِ۪سْتَطَعْتَ أَن تَبْتَغِيَ نَفَقاٗ فِے اِ۬لْأَرْضِ أَوْ سُلَّماٗ فِے اِ۬لسَّمَآءِ فَتَأْتِيَهُم بِـَٔايَةٖۖ
And had God willed, He would have brought them together upon guidance;
وَلَوْ شَآءَ اَ۬للَّهُ لَجَمَعَهُمْ عَلَى اَ۬لْهُدَىٰۖ
so never be among the ignorant.
فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ اَ۬لْجَٰهِلِينَۖ
Only those who hear respond.
۞ إِنَّمَا يَسْتَجِيبُ اُ۬لذِينَ يَسْمَعُونَۖ
As for the dead, God will raise them,
وَالْمَوْتَىٰ يَبْعَثُهُمُ اُ۬للَّهُۖ
then it is to Him that they will be returned.
ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ يُرْجَعُونَۖ
And they say: "Why has a sign from his Guardian not been sent down upon him!"
وَقَالُواْ لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَةٞ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦۖ
Say: "God is indeed capable of sending down a sign",
قُلْ إِنَّ اَ۬للَّهَ قَادِرٌ عَلَىٰ أَنْ يُّنَزِّلَ ءَايَةٗۖ
but most of them do not know.
وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَۖ
There is no living being on the earth, nor bird flying with its two wings, but forms communities like you.
وَمَا مِن دَآبَّةٖ فِے اِ۬لْأَرْضِ وَلَا طَٰٓئِرٖ يَطِيرُ بِجَنَاحَيْهِ إِلَّا أُمَمٌ أَمْثَالُكُمۖ
We have neglected nothing of the Code.
مَّا فَرَّطْنَا فِے اِ۬لْكِتَٰبِ مِن شَےْءٖۖ
Then it is to their Guardian that they will be gathered.
ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يُحْشَرُونَۖ
And those who have denied Our signs are deaf and mute, in darknesses.
وَالذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا صُمّٞ وَبُكْمٞ فِے اِ۬لظُّلُمَٰتِۖ
Whoever God wills to lead astray, He leads astray;
مَنْ يَّشَإِ اِ۬للَّهُ يُضْلِلْهُۖ
and whoever He wills, He places on a straight path.
وَمَنْ يَّشَأْ يَجْعَلْهُ عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٖ مُّسْتَقِيمٖۖ
Say: "Do you see? If the punishment of God came upon you, or the Hour came upon you, would you invoke other than God, if you are veracious?"
قُلْ أَرَٰ۬يْتَكُمْ إِنْ أَتَيٰكُمْ عَذَابُ اُ۬للَّهِ أَوْ أَتَتْكُمُ اُ۬لسَّاعَةُ أَغَيْرَ اَ۬للَّهِ تَدْعُونَ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَۖ
In reality, it is Him you would invoke; He would then remove, if He willed, that for which you invoked Him, and you would forget what you associate.
بَلْ إِيَّاهُ تَدْعُونَ فَيَكْشِفُ مَا تَدْعُونَ إِلَيْهِ إِن شَآءَ وَتَنسَوْنَ مَا تُشْرِكُونَۖ
We have indeed sent to communities before you, and We seized them with adversity and hardship, perhaps they would beseech.
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَىٰ أُمَمٖ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَأَخَذْنَٰهُم بِالْبَأْسَآءِ وَالضَّرَّآءِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَضَرَّعُونَۖ
Why did they not beseech, when Our rigor came upon them!
فَلَوْلَا إِذْ جَآءَهُم بَأْسُنَا تَضَرَّعُواْۖ
But their cores hardened, and the Diverter embellished for them what they were doing.
وَلَٰكِن قَسَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ اُ۬لشَّيْطَٰنُ مَا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَۖ
Then, when they forgot what they had been reminded of, We opened upon them the gates of everything,
فَلَمَّا نَسُواْ مَا ذُكِّرُواْ بِهِۦ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَبْوَٰبَ كُلِّ شَےْءٍۖ
to the point that, when they rejoiced in what had been given them, We seized them unexpectedly, and there they were, in despair.
حَتَّىٰ إِذَا فَرِحُواْ بِمَا أُوتُواْ أَخَذْنَٰهُم بَغْتَةٗ فَإِذَا هُم مُّبْلِسُونَۖ
Thus was the last remnant of the people who had done wrong cut off.
فَقُطِعَ دَابِرُ اُ۬لْقَوْمِ اِ۬لذِينَ ظَلَمُواْۖ
And praise be to God, Guardian of all beings.
وَالْحَمْدُ لِلهِ رَبِّ اِ۬لْعَٰلَمِينَۖ
Say: "Do you see? If God took your hearing and your sight, and sealed your cores, what deity, other than God, would bring them back to you?"
قُلْ أَرَٰ۬يْتُمْ إِنْ أَخَذَ اَ۬للَّهُ سَمْعَكُمْ وَأَبْصَٰرَكُمْ وَخَتَمَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِكُم مَّنْ إِلَٰهٌ غَيْرُ اُ۬للَّهِ يَأْتِيكُم بِهِۖ
Look how We diversify the signs, and yet they veer away from them.
اِ۟نظُرْ كَيْفَ نُصَرِّفُ اُ۬لْأٓيَٰتِ ثُمَّ هُمْ يَصْدِفُونَۖ
Say: "Do you see? If the punishment of God came upon you, unexpectedly or openly, who would be annihilated, but the wrongdoing people?"
قُلْ أَرَٰ۬يْتَكُمْ إِنْ أَتَيٰكُمْ عَذَابُ اُ۬للَّهِ بَغْتَةً أَوْ جَهْرَةً هَلْ يُهْلَكُ إِلَّا اَ۬لْقَوْمُ اُ۬لظَّٰلِمُونَۖ
We send the envoys only as bearers of good tidings and warners.
۞ وَمَا نُرْسِلُ اُ۬لْمُرْسَلِينَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَۖ
Whoever believes and becomes sound, no fear upon them, and they will not grieve.
فَمَنْ ءَامَنَ وَأَصْلَحَ فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَۖ
And those who have denied Our signs, the punishment will touch them, for having overstepped.
وَالذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا يَمَسُّهُمُ اُ۬لْعَذَابُ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَفْسُقُونَۖ
Say: "I do not tell you that I hold the treasuries of God, nor that I know what escapes the senses, nor do I tell you that I am an Agent;
قُل لَّا أَقُولُ لَكُمْ عِندِے خَزَآئِنُ اُ۬للَّهِ وَلَا أَعْلَمُ اُ۬لْغَيْبَ وَلَا أَقُولُ لَكُمْ إِنِّے مَلَكٌۖ
I only follow what is revealed to me."
إِنْ أَتَّبِعُ إِلَّا مَا يُوحَىٰ إِلَيَّۖ
Say: "Are the blind and the seeing equal?"
قُلْ هَلْ يَسْتَوِے اِ۬لْأَعْمَىٰ وَالْبَصِيرُۖ
Will you not then reflect?
أَفَلَا تَتَفَكَّرُونَۖ
And warn by it those who fear to be gathered to their Guardian — they have, besides Him, neither protector nor intercessor — perhaps they will guard themselves.
وَأَنذِرْ بِهِ اِ۬لذِينَ يَخَافُونَ أَنْ يُّحْشَرُواْ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ لَيْسَ لَهُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ وَلِيّٞ وَلَا شَفِيعٞ لَّعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَۖ
And do not chase away those who invoke their Guardian, morning and evening, wanting His direction. Nothing of their account is upon you, and nothing of your account is upon them, that you should chase them away and then be among the wrongdoers.
وَلَا تَطْرُدِ اِ۬لذِينَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُم بِالْغَدَوٰةِ وَالْعَشِيِّ يُرِيدُونَ وَجْهَهُۥ مَا عَلَيْكَ مِنْ حِسَابِهِم مِّن شَےْءٖ وَمَا مِنْ حِسَابِكَ عَلَيْهِم مِّن شَےْءٖ فَتَطْرُدَهُمْ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ اَ۬لظَّٰلِمِينَۖ
And thus have We tried some of them by others, that they might say: "Are these the ones whom God has graced among us?"
وَكَذَٰلِكَ فَتَنَّا بَعْضَهُم بِبَعْضٖ لِّيَقُولُواْ أَهَٰؤُلَآءِ مَنَّ اَ۬للَّهُ عَلَيْهِم مِّنۢ بَيْنِنَاۖ
Does God not know best those who are grateful?
أَلَيْسَ اَ۬للَّهُ بِأَعْلَمَ بِالشَّٰكِرِينَۖ
And when those who believe in Our signs come to you, say: "Peace be upon you.
وَإِذَا جَآءَكَ اَ۬لذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا فَقُلْ سَلَٰمٌ عَلَيْكُمْۖ
Your Guardian has prescribed benevolence upon Himself: whoever among you commits evil out of ignorance, then repents after that and becomes sound — He is indeed Most-Forgiving, Benevolent."
كَتَبَ رَبُّكُمْ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ اِ۬لرَّحْمَةَ أَنَّهُۥ مَنْ عَمِلَ مِنكُمْ سُوٓءاَۢ بِجَهَٰلَةٖ ثُمَّ تَابَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ وَأَصْلَحَ فَإِنَّهُۥ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٞۖ
Thus do We detail the signs, so that the way of the severed may become clear.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ اُ۬لْأٓيَٰتِ وَلِتَسْتَبِينَ سَبِيلَ اَ۬لْمُجْرِمِينَۖ
Say: "I have indeed been forbidden to obey those you invoke besides God."
قُلْ إِنِّے نُهِيتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ اَ۬لذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اِ۬للَّهِۖ
Say: "I do not follow your emotions;
قُل لَّا أَتَّبِعُ أَهْوَآءَكُمْۖ
I would then be astray, and I would not be among those who let themselves be guided."
قَدْ ضَلَلْتُ إِذاٗ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ اَ۬لْمُهْتَدِينَۖ
Say: "I indeed rely on clear evidence from my Guardian, and you have denied it.
قُلْ إِنِّے عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٖ مِّن رَّبِّے وَكَذَّبْتُم بِهِۦۖ
I do not hold what you seek to hasten.
مَا عِندِے مَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِهِۦۖ
Judgment belongs only to God.
إِنِ اِ۬لْحُكْمُ إِلَّا لِلهِۖ
He decrees the truth,
يَقُصُّ اُ۬لْحَقَّۖ
and He is the best of those who separate."
وَهْوَ خَيْرُ اُ۬لْفَٰصِلِينَۖ
Say: "If I held what you seek to hasten, the matter would already have been decided between me and you."
قُل لَّوْ أَنَّ عِندِے مَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِهِۦ لَقُضِيَ اَ۬لْأَمْرُ بَيْنِے وَبَيْنَكُمْۖ
God knows best the wrongdoers.
وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِالظَّٰلِمِينَۖ
And He holds the keys of what escapes the senses: none knows them, save Him.
۞ وَعِندَهُۥ مَفَاتِحُ اُ۬لْغَيْبِ لَا يَعْلَمُهَا إِلَّا هُوَۖ
And He knows what is on land and in the sea.
وَيَعْلَمُ مَا فِے اِ۬لْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِۖ
No leaf tumbles but He knows it; no grain, in the darknesses of the earth, nothing moist or dry, that is not in an explicit register.
وَمَا تَسْقُطُ مِنْ وَّرَقَةٍ إِلَّا يَعْلَمُهَا وَلَا حَبَّةٖ فِے ظُلُمَٰتِ اِ۬لْأَرْضِ وَلَا رَطْبٖ وَلَا يَابِسٍ إِلَّا فِے كِتَٰبٖ مُّبِينٖۖ
It is He who keeps you faithfully, by night, and knows what you have perpetrated by day, then He raises you in it, so that an appointed term may be concluded;
وَهْوَ اَ۬لذِے يَتَوَفَّيٰكُم بِاليْلِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا جَرَحْتُم بِالنَّهَارِ ثُمَّ يَبْعَثُكُمْ فِيهِ لِيُقْضَىٰ أَجَلٞ مُّسَمّىٗۖ
then to Him will be your return, and He will inform you of what you used to do.
ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ مَرْجِعُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَۖ
He subjugates above His obedient ones,
وَهْوَ اَ۬لْقَاهِرُ فَوْقَ عِبَادِهِۦۖ
and He sends upon you preservers,
وَيُرْسِلُ عَلَيْكُمْ حَفَظَةًۖ
to the point that, when death comes to one of you, Our envoys keep him faithfully, without neglect.
حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَا أَحَدَكُمُ اُ۬لْمَوْتُ تَوَفَّتْهُ رُسُلُنَا وَهُمْ لَا يُفَرِّطُونَۖ
Then they are brought back to God, their true nearest Guarantor.
ثُمَّ رُدُّواْ إِلَى اَ۬للَّهِ مَوْلَيٰهُمُ اُ۬لْحَقِّۖ
Is it not to Him that judgment belongs?
أَلَا لَهُ اُ۬لْحُكْمُۖ
He is the swiftest of those who take account.
وَهْوَ أَسْرَعُ اُ۬لْحَٰسِبِينَۖ
Say: "Who saves you from the darknesses of land and sea?" — you invoke Him beseechingly and covertly: "If You save us from this, we will surely be among the grateful."
قُلْ مَنْ يُّنَجِّيكُم مِّن ظُلُمَٰتِ اِ۬لْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ تَدْعُونَهُۥ تَضَرُّعاٗ وَخُفْيَةٗ لَّئِنْ أَنجَيْتَنَا مِنْ هَٰذِهِۦ لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ اَ۬لشَّٰكِرِينَۖ
Say: "God saves you from it, and from every distress; yet you associate."
قُلِ اِ۬للَّهُ يُنجِيكُم مِّنْهَا وَمِن كُلِّ كَرْبٖ ثُمَّ أَنتُمْ تُشْرِكُونَۖ
Say: "He is capable of raising up against you a punishment, from above you or from beneath your feet, or of embroiling you in factions, and making some of you taste the violence of others."
قُلْ هُوَ اَ۬لْقَادِرُ عَلَىٰ أَنْ يَّبْعَثَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَاباٗ مِّن فَوْقِكُمْ أَوْ مِن تَحْتِ أَرْجُلِكُمْ أَوْ يَلْبِسَكُمْ شِيَعاٗ وَيُذِيقَ بَعْضَكُم بَأْسَ بَعْضٍۖ
Look how We diversify the signs, perhaps they will understand.
اُ۟نظُرْ كَيْفَ نُصَرِّفُ اُ۬لْأٓيَٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَفْقَهُونَۖ
But your people have denied it, though it is the truth.
وَكَذَّبَ بِهِۦ قَوْمُكَ وَهْوَ اَ۬لْحَقُّۖ
Say: "I am not, for you, a trustee.
قُل لَّسْتُ عَلَيْكُم بِوَكِيلٖۖ
Every piece of information has its stable place,
لِّكُلِّ نَبَإٖ مُّسْتَقَرّٞۖ
and you will soon know."
وَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَۖ
And when you see those who immerse themselves in Our signs, turn away from them, until they immerse themselves in another discourse.
وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ اَ۬لذِينَ يَخُوضُونَ فِے ءَايَٰتِنَا فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يَخُوضُواْ فِے حَدِيثٍ غَيْرِهِۦۖ
And if the Diverter makes you forget, do not remain seated, after this reminder, with the wrongdoing people.
وَإِمَّا يُنسِيَنَّكَ اَ۬لشَّيْطَٰنُ فَلَا تَقْعُدْ بَعْدَ اَ۬لذِّكْرَىٰ مَعَ اَ۬لْقَوْمِ اِ۬لظَّٰلِمِينَۖ
And nothing of their account is upon those who guard themselves,
وَمَا عَلَى اَ۬لذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ مِنْ حِسَابِهِم مِّن شَےْءٖۖ
except a reminder, perhaps they will guard themselves.
وَلَٰكِن ذِكْرَىٰ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَۖ
And forsake those who have taken their Law for distraction and play, and whom the present life has deluded.
۞ وَذَرِ اِ۬لذِينَ اَ۪تَّخَذُواْ دِينَهُمْ لَعِباٗ وَلَهْواٗ وَغَرَّتْهُمُ اُ۬لْحَيَوٰةُ اُ۬لدُّنْيَاۖ
And remind by it, lest a Self be delivered for what it has earned, having, besides God, neither protector nor intercessor;
وَذَكِّرْ بِهِۦ أَن تُبْسَلَ نَفْسُۢ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ لَيْسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ اِ۬للَّهِ وَلِيّٞ وَلَا شَفِيعٞۖ
and even if it offered every compensation, it would not be taken from it.
وَإِن تَعْدِلْ كُلَّ عَدْلٖ لَّا يُؤْخَذْ مِنْهَاۖ
Those are the ones who will have been delivered for what they have earned; they will have a drink of boiling water and a painful punishment, for having disowned.
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ اَ۬لذِينَ أُبْسِلُواْ بِمَا كَسَبُواْ لَهُمْ شَرَابٞ مِّنْ حَمِيمٖ وَعَذَابٌ أَلِيمُۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكْفُرُونَۖ
Say: "Should we invoke, besides God, what neither benefits nor harms us, and be turned back on our heels after God has guided us, like one whom the Diverters have lured on earth, bewildered,
قُلْ أَنَدْعُواْ مِن دُونِ اِ۬للَّهِ مَا لَا يَنفَعُنَا وَلَا يَضُرُّنَا وَنُرَدُّ عَلَىٰ أَعْقَابِنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيٰنَا اَ۬للَّهُ كَالذِے اِ۪سْتَهْوَتْهُ اُ۬لشَّيَٰطِينُ فِے اِ۬لْأَرْضِ حَيْرَانَۖ
while he has companions who call him to guidance: 'Come to us'?"
لَهُۥ أَصْحَٰبٞ يَدْعُونَهُۥ إِلَى اَ۬لْهُدَى اَ۪ئْتِنَاۖ
Say: "The guidance of God, that is the guidance; and we have been commanded to be true to the Guardian of all beings alone, and to maintain the Contact, and to guard ourselves toward Him."
قُلْ إِنَّ هُدَى اَ۬للَّهِ هُوَ اَ۬لْهُدَىٰ وَأُمِرْنَا لِنُسْلِمَ لِرَبِّ اِ۬لْعَٰلَمِينَ وَأَنْ أَقِيمُواْ اُ۬لصَّلَوٰةَ وَاتَّقُوهُۖ
And it is to Him that you will be gathered.
وَهْوَ اَ۬لذِے إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَۖ
It is He who created the heavens and the earth in truth,
وَهْوَ اَ۬لذِے خَلَقَ اَ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضَ بِالْحَقِّۖ
and the day He says: "Be",
وَيَوْمَ يَقُولُ كُنۖ
it is.
فَيَكُونُۖ
His saying is the truth,
قَوْلُهُ اُ۬لْحَقُّۖ
and to Him belongs the dominion,
وَلَهُ اُ۬لْمُلْكُۖ
the day the Horn is blown.
يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِے اِ۬لصُّورِۖ
The Knower of what escapes the senses and of what is witnessed,
عَٰلِمُ اُ۬لْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَٰدَةِۖ
He is the Wise, the Intimately Acquainted.
وَهْوَ اَ۬لْحَكِيمُ اُ۬لْخَبِيرُۖ
And when Ibrahim said to his father Azar: "Do you take idols as deities?
وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَٰهِيمُ لِأَبِيهِ ءَازَرَ أَتَتَّخِذُ أَصْنَاماً ءَالِهَةًۖ
I see you indeed, you and your people, in manifest error."
إِنِّيَ أَرَيٰكَ وَقَوْمَكَ فِے ضَلَٰلٖ مُّبِينٖۖ
Thus did We show Ibrahim the sovereign dominion of the heavens and the earth, that he might be among those who possess certainty.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُرِے إِبْرَٰهِيمَ مَلَكُوتَ اَ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَلِيَكُونَ مِنَ اَ۬لْمُوقِنِينَۖ
When the night closed in on him, he saw a heavenly body; he said: "This is my guardian";
فَلَمَّا جَنَّ عَلَيْهِ اِ۬ليْلُ رَءَا كَوْكَباٗ قَالَ هَٰذَا رَبِّےۖ
but when it disappeared, he said: "I do not love those that disappear."
فَلَمَّا أَفَلَ قَالَ لَا أُحِبُّ اُ۬لْأٓفِلِينَۖ
Then, when he saw the moon rising, he said: "This is my guardian";
فَلَمَّا رَءَا اَ۬لْقَمَرَ بَازِغاٗ قَالَ هَٰذَا رَبِّےۖ
but when it disappeared, he said: "If my Guardian does not guide me, I will surely be of the people gone astray."
فَلَمَّا أَفَلَ قَالَ لَئِن لَّمْ يَهْدِنِے رَبِّے لَأَكُونَنَّ مِنَ اَ۬لْقَوْمِ اِ۬لضَّآلِّينَۖ
Then, when he saw the sun rising, he said: "This is my guardian, this one is greater";
فَلَمَّا رَءَا اَ۬لشَّمْسَ بَازِغَةٗ قَالَ هَٰذَا رَبِّے هَٰذَا أَكْبَرُۖ
but when it disappeared, he said: "O my people! I am indeed quit of what you associate.
فَلَمَّا أَفَلَتْ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ إِنِّے بَرِےٓءٞ مِّمَّا تُشْرِكُونَۖ
I have set my direction toward the One who originated the heavens and the earth, wholly turned toward Him,
إِنِّے وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلذِے فَطَرَ اَ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفاٗۖ
and I am not among those who associate."
وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ اَ۬لْمُشْرِكِينَۖ
And his people disputed with him.
۞ وَحَآجَّهُۥ قَوْمُهُۥۖ
He said: "Do you dispute with me about God, when He has guided me?
قَالَ أَتُحَٰٓجُّونِے فِے اِ۬للَّهِ وَقَدْ هَدَيٰنِۖ
And I do not fear what you associate with Him, unless my Guardian wills that something happen to me.
وَلَا أَخَافُ مَا تُشْرِكُونَ بِهِۦ إِلَّا أَنْ يَّشَآءَ رَبِّے شَئْاٗۖ
My Guardian embraces all things in His knowledge.
وَسِعَ رَبِّے كُلَّ شَےْءٍ عِلْماًۖ
Will you not then remember?
أَفَلَا تَتَذَكَّرُونَۖ
And how should I fear what you associate,
وَكَيْفَ أَخَافُ مَا أَشْرَكْتُمْۖ
while you do not fear having associated with God that for which He has sent down upon you no authority?
وَلَا تَخَافُونَ أَنَّكُمْ أَشْرَكْتُم بِاللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يُنَزِّلْ بِهِۦ عَلَيْكُمْ سُلْطَٰناٗۖ
Which of the two fractions, then, is more worthy of security, if you know?"
فَأَيُّ اُ۬لْفَرِيقَيْنِ أَحَقُّ بِالْأَمْنِ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَۖ
Those who have believed and have not cloaked their faith in any wrongdoing — those are the ones who have security, and they let themselves be guided.
اَ۬لذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَلَمْ يَلْبِسُواْ إِيمَٰنَهُم بِظُلْمٍ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمُ اُ۬لْأَمْنُ وَهُم مُّهْتَدُونَۖ
And that is Our argument, which We gave to Ibrahim against his people.
وَتِلْكَ حُجَّتُنَا ءَاتَيْنَٰهَا إِبْرَٰهِيمَ عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦۖ
We elevate in degrees whom We will.
نَرْفَعُ دَرَجَٰتِ مَن نَّشَآءُۖ
Your Guardian is indeed Wise, All-Knowing.
اِ۪نَّ رَبَّكَ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٞۖ
And We bestowed on him Ishaq and Yaacoub;
وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُۥ إِسْحَٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَۖ
We guided them both.
كُلّاً هَدَيْنَاۖ
And Nuh, We had guided him before;
وَنُوحاً هَدَيْنَا مِن قَبْلُۖ
and among his descendants, Dawud, Sulayman, Ayyub, Youssof, Moussa, and Harun.
وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِۦ دَاوُۥدَ وَسُلَيْمَٰنَ وَأَيُّوبَ وَيُوسُفَ وَمُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَۖ
Thus do We recompense those who do good.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِے اِ۬لْمُحْسِنِينَۖ
And Zakariya, Yahya, Issa, and Ilyas —
وَزَكَرِيَّآءَ وَيَحْيَىٰ وَعِيسَىٰ وَإِلْيَاسَۖ
all are among those who are sound.
كُلّٞ مِّنَ اَ۬لصَّٰلِحِينَۖ
And Isma'il, Al-Yasa', Younes, and Lut —
وَإِسْمَٰعِيلَ وَالْيَسَعَ وَيُونُسَ وَلُوطاٗۖ
and all of them, We favored above all beings.
وَكُلّاٗ فَضَّلْنَا عَلَى اَ۬لْعَٰلَمِينَۖ
And among their ancestors, their descendants, and their brothers —
وَمِنْ ءَابَآئِهِمْ وَذُرِّيَّٰتِهِمْ وَإِخْوَٰنِهِمْۖ
We elected them, and We guided them to a straight path.
وَاجْتَبَيْنَٰهُمْ وَهَدَيْنَٰهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٖ مُّسْتَقِيمٖۖ
That is the guidance of God, by which He guides whom He wills among His obedient ones.
ذَٰلِكَ هُدَى اَ۬للَّهِ يَهْدِے بِهِۦ مَنْ يَّشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦۖ
And had they associated, what they were doing would have collapsed for them.
وَلَوْ أَشْرَكُواْ لَحَبِطَ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَۖ
Those are the ones to whom We gave the Scripture, the judgment, and the charge of informing.
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ اَ۬لذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمُ اُ۬لْكِتَٰبَ وَالْحُكْمَ وَالنُّبُوٓءَةَۖ
So if these disown it, We have already entrusted it to a people who are not disowners of it.
فَإِنْ يَّكْفُرْ بِهَا هَٰؤُلَآءِ فَقَدْ وَكَّلْنَا بِهَا قَوْماٗ لَّيْسُواْ بِهَا بِكَٰفِرِينَۖ
Those are the ones God has guided; model yourself, then, on their guidance.
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ اَ۬لذِينَ هَدَى اَ۬للَّهُ فَبِهُدَيٰهُمُ اُ۪قْتَدِهْۖ
Say: "I do not ask you, for this, any reward.
قُل لَّا أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْراًۖ
It is only a reminder for all beings."
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْعَٰلَمِينَۖ
They did not measure God with His true measure, when they said: "God has sent nothing down upon a human."
۞ وَمَا قَدَرُواْ اُ۬للَّهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِۦ إِذْ قَالُواْ مَا أَنزَلَ اَ۬للَّهُ عَلَىٰ بَشَرٖ مِّن شَےْءٖۖ
Say: "Who sent down the Scripture that Moussa brought, a light and a guidance for mankind,
قُلْ مَنْ أَنزَلَ اَ۬لْكِتَٰبَ اَ۬لذِے جَآءَ بِهِۦ مُوسَىٰ نُوراٗ وَهُدىٗ لِّلنَّاسِۖ
which they put on parchments, making some appear and hiding much —
تَجْعَلُونَهُۥ قَرَاطِيسَ تُبْدُونَهَا وَتُخْفُونَ كَثِيراٗۖ
and you were taught what you did not know, neither you nor your ancestors?" Say: "God";
وَعُلِّمْتُم مَّا لَمْ تَعْلَمُواْ أَنتُمْ وَلَا ءَابَآؤُكُمْ قُلِ اِ۬للَّهُۖ
then forsake them to their vain talk, in which they play.
ثُمَّ ذَرْهُمْ فِے خَوْضِهِمْ يَلْعَبُونَۖ
And here is a Scripture We have sent down, blessed, confirming what precedes it, so that you may warn the metropolis of cities and those around it.
وَهَٰذَا كِتَٰبٌ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ مُبَٰرَكٞ مُّصَدِّقُ اُ۬لذِے بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَلِتُنذِرَ أُمَّ اَ۬لْقُرَىٰ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهَاۖ
And those who believe in the last life believe in it, and they carefully preserve their Contact.
وَالذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْأٓخِرَةِ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَۖ
And who then does more wrong than one who invents a lie against God, or says: "It has been revealed to me", when nothing has been revealed to him, and one who says: "I will send down the like of what God has sent down"?
وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ اِ۪فْتَرَىٰ عَلَى اَ۬للَّهِ كَذِباً أَوْ قَالَ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ وَلَمْ يُوحَ إِلَيْهِ شَےْءٞ وَمَن قَالَ سَأُنزِلُ مِثْلَ مَا أَنزَلَ اَ۬للَّهُۖ
And if you could see, when the wrongdoers are in the throes of death, and the Agents stretch out their hands: "Bring forth your Self.
وَلَوْ تَرَىٰ إِذِ اِ۬لظَّٰلِمُونَ فِے غَمَرَٰتِ اِ۬لْمَوْتِ وَالْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ بَاسِطُواْ أَيْدِيهِمْ أَخْرِجُواْ أَنفُسَكُمُۖ
Today, you will be recompensed with the punishment of degradation, for having said about God other than the truth, and for having grown proud before His signs."
اُ۬لْيَوْمَ تُجْزَوْنَ عَذَابَ اَ۬لْهُونِ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَقُولُونَ عَلَى اَ۬للَّهِ غَيْرَ اَ۬لْحَقِّ وَكُنتُمْ عَنْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ تَسْتَكْبِرُونَۖ
Here you have come to Us alone, as We created you the first time, and you have left behind your backs what We had vouchsafed you;
وَلَقَدْ جِئْتُمُونَا فُرَٰدَىٰ كَمَا خَلَقْنَٰكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٖ وَتَرَكْتُم مَّا خَوَّلْنَٰكُمْ وَرَآءَ ظُهُورِكُمْۖ
and We do not see with you your intercessors, whom you claimed to be associates among you.
وَمَا نَرَىٰ مَعَكُمْ شُفَعَآءَكُمُ اُ۬لذِينَ زَعَمْتُمْ أَنَّهُمْ فِيكُمْ شُرَكَٰٓؤُاْۖ
The bonds between you are indeed cut, and what you claimed has strayed away from you.
لَقَد تَّقَطَّعَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَضَلَّ عَنكُم مَّا كُنتُمْ تَزْعُمُونَۖ
God is He who splits open the seed and the kernel.
۞ إِنَّ اَ۬للَّهَ فَٰلِقُ اُ۬لْحَبِّ وَالنَّوَىٰۖ
He brings forth the living from the dead, and He brings forth the dead from the living.
يُخْرِجُ اُ۬لْحَيَّ مِنَ اَ۬لْمَيِّتِ وَمُخْرِجُ اُ۬لْمَيِّتِ مِنَ اَ۬لْحَيِّۖ
That is God.
ذَٰلِكُمُ اُ۬للَّهُۖ
How then are you turned away?
فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤْفَكُونَۖ
He who splits open the break of day, and who made the night a rest,
فَالِقُ اُ۬لْإِصْبَاحِ وَجَٰعِلُ اُ۬ليْلِ سَكَناٗۖ
and of the sun and the moon, a reckoning.
وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ حُسْبَٰناٗۖ
That is the measure set by the All-Powerful, the All-Knowing.
ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ اُ۬لْعَزِيزِ اِ۬لْعَلِيمِۖ
And it is He who made for you the stars, so that you might guide yourselves by them in the darknesses of land and sea.
وَهْوَ اَ۬لذِے جَعَلَ لَكُمُ اُ۬لنُّجُومَ لِتَهْتَدُواْ بِهَا فِے ظُلُمَٰتِ اِ۬لْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِۖ
We have indeed detailed the signs for a people who know.
قَدْ فَصَّلْنَا اَ۬لْأٓيَٰتِ لِقَوْمٖ يَعْلَمُونَۖ
And it is He who brought you into being from a single Self — then a haven and a repository.
وَهْوَ اَ۬لذِے أَنشَأَكُم مِّن نَّفْسٖ وَٰحِدَةٖ فَمُسْتَقَرّٞ وَمُسْتَوْدَعٞۖ
We have indeed detailed the signs for a people who understand.
قَدْ فَصَّلْنَا اَ۬لْأٓيَٰتِ لِقَوْمٖ يَفْقَهُونَۖ
And it is He who sent down water from the sky, and We brought forth by it the vegetation of every kind, and We brought forth from it a greenery, from which We bring forth grain piled up, and, from the palm tree, from its spathe, bunches within reach, and gardens of vines, the olive and the pomegranate, resembling and not resembling.
وَهْوَ اَ۬لذِے أَنزَلَ مِنَ اَ۬لسَّمَآءِ مَآءٗ فَأَخْرَجْنَا بِهِۦ نَبَاتَ كُلِّ شَےْءٖ فَأَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهُ خَضِراٗ نُّخْرِجُ مِنْهُ حَبّاٗ مُّتَرَاكِباٗ وَمِنَ اَ۬لنَّخْلِ مِن طَلْعِهَا قِنْوَانٞ دَانِيَةٞ وَجَنَّٰتٖ مِّنْ أَعْنَٰبٖ وَالزَّيْتُونَ وَالرُّمَّانَ مُشْتَبِهاٗ وَغَيْرَ مُتَشَٰبِهٍۖ
Look at its fruit, when it bears fruit, and its ripening.
اُ۟نظُرُواْ إِلَىٰ ثَمَرِهِۦ إِذَا أَثْمَرَ وَيَنْعِهِۦۖ
There are surely signs in that for a people who believe.
إِنَّ فِے ذَٰلِكُمْ لَأٓيَٰتٖ لِّقَوْمٖ يُؤْمِنُونَۖ
And they have assigned associates to God: the Occulted, though He created them;
وَجَعَلُواْ لِلهِ شُرَكَآءَ اَ۬لْجِنَّ وَخَلَقَهُمْۖ
and they falsely attributed to Him, without any knowledge, sons and daughters.
وَخَرَّقُواْ لَهُۥ بَنِينَ وَبَنَٰتِۢ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٖۖ
Glory be to Him! He is far above what they describe.
سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَۖ
Unprecedented Creator of the heavens and the earth.
بَدِيعُ اُ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِۖ
How would He have a child, when He has no consort,
أَنَّىٰ يَكُونُ لَهُۥ وَلَدٞ وَلَمْ تَكُن لَّهُۥ صَٰحِبَةٞۖ
and He created every thing,
وَخَلَقَ كُلَّ شَےْءٖۖ
and He is All-Knowing of all things?
وَهْوَ بِكُلِّ شَےْءٍ عَلِيمٞۖ
That is God, your Guardian.
ذَٰلِكُمُ اُ۬للَّهُ رَبُّكُمْۖ
There is no deity but Him,
لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ
Creator of all things;
خَٰلِقُ كُلِّ شَےْءٖۖ
obey Him, then.
فَاعْبُدُوهُۖ
He is, over all things, a trustee.
وَهْوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَےْءٖ وَكِيلٞۖ
Sights do not overtake Him,
۞ لَّا تُدْرِكُهُ اُ۬لْأَبْصَٰرُۖ
but He overtakes sights.
وَهْوَ يُدْرِكُ اُ۬لْأَبْصَٰرَۖ
He is the Subtle, the Intimately Acquainted.
وَهْوَ اَ۬للَّطِيفُ اُ۬لْخَبِيرُۖ
Insights have indeed come to you from your Guardian.
قَدْ جَآءَكُم بَصَآئِرُ مِن رَّبِّكُمْۖ
Whoever sees clearly, it is for himself; and whoever is blind, it is to his own detriment.
فَمَنْ أَبْصَرَ فَلِنَفْسِهِۦ وَمَنْ عَمِيَ فَعَلَيْهَاۖ
And I am not, over you, a preserver.
وَمَا أَنَا عَلَيْكُم بِحَفِيظٖۖ
And thus do We diversify the signs; and so that they say: "You have studied", and so that We may make it clear for a people who know.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُصَرِّفُ اُ۬لْأٓيَٰتِ وَلِيَقُولُواْ دَرَسْتَ وَلِنُبَيِّنَهُۥ لِقَوْمٖ يَعْلَمُونَۖ
Follow what is revealed to you from your Guardian.
اَ۪تَّبِعْ مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَۖ
There is no deity but Him,
لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ
and turn away from those who associate.
وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ اِ۬لْمُشْرِكِينَۖ
And had God willed, they would not have associated.
وَلَوْ شَآءَ اَ۬للَّهُ مَا أَشْرَكُواْۖ
And We have not made you their preserver,
وَمَا جَعَلْنَٰكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِيظاٗۖ
and you are not for them a trustee.
وَمَا أَنتَ عَلَيْهِم بِوَكِيلٖۖ
And do not insult those they invoke besides God, lest they insult God out of hostility, without knowledge.
وَلَا تَسُبُّواْ اُ۬لذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اِ۬للَّهِ فَيَسُبُّواْ اُ۬للَّهَ عَدْواَۢ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٖۖ
Thus have We embellished, for every community, its work;
كَذَٰلِكَ زَيَّنَّا لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ عَمَلَهُمْۖ
then to their Guardian will be their return, and He will inform them of what they used to do.
ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِم مَّرْجِعُهُمْ فَيُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَۖ
And they swore by God, with the utmost strength of their oaths, that if a sign came to them, they would surely believe in it.
وَأَقْسَمُواْ بِاللَّهِ جَهْدَ أَيْمَٰنِهِمْ لَئِن جَآءَتْهُمْ ءَايَةٞ لَّيُؤْمِنُنَّ بِهَاۖ
Say: "The signs are only with God";
قُلْ إِنَّمَا اَ۬لْأٓيَٰتُ عِندَ اَ۬للَّهِۖ
and what makes you sense it?
وَمَا يُشْعِرُكُمْ
Indeed, when it comes, they will not believe in it.
أَنَّهَا إِذَا جَآءَتْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَۖ
And We turn about their Consciences and their sights, as they did not believe in it the first time, and We forsake them in their immoderation, where they go about blindly.
وَنُقَلِّبُ أَفْـِٕدَتَهُمْ وَأَبْصَٰرَهُمْ كَمَا لَمْ يُؤْمِنُواْ بِهِۦ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٖ وَنَذَرُهُمْ فِے طُغْيَٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَۖ
And even had We sent down to them the Agents, and the dead had spoken to them, and We had gathered before them everything, face to face, they would not have believed, unless God willed it;
۞ وَلَوْ أَنَّنَا نَزَّلْنَا إِلَيْهِمُ اُ۬لْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ وَكَلَّمَهُمُ اُ۬لْمَوْتَىٰ وَحَشَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ كُلَّ شَےْءٖ قِبَلاٗ مَّا كَانُواْ لِيُؤْمِنُواْ إِلَّا أَنْ يَّشَآءَ اَ۬للَّهُۖ
but most of them are ignorant.
وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ يَجْهَلُونَۖ
And thus have We assigned to every informant an enemy: the diverters among humans and the Occulted, who inspire one another with gilded saying, to delude.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ جَعَلْنَا لِكُلِّ نَبِےٓءٍ عَدُوّاٗ شَيَٰطِينَ اَ۬لْإِنسِ وَالْجِنِّ يُوحِے بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَىٰ بَعْضٖ زُخْرُفَ اَ۬لْقَوْلِ غُرُوراٗۖ
And had your Guardian willed, they would not have done it;
وَلَوْ شَآءَ رَبُّكَ مَا فَعَلُوهُۖ
forsake them, then, and what they invent.
فَذَرْهُمْ وَمَا يَفْتَرُونَۖ
And so that the Consciences of those who do not believe in the last life may bend toward it, and that they may be satisfied with it, and commit what they are to commit.
وَلِتَصْغَىٰ إِلَيْهِ أَفْـِٕدَةُ اُ۬لذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْأٓخِرَةِ وَلِيَرْضَوْهُ وَلِيَقْتَرِفُواْ مَا هُم مُّقْتَرِفُونَۖ
Should I then seek a judge other than God, when it is He who sent down to you the Scripture, detailed?
أَفَغَيْرَ اَ۬للَّهِ أَبْتَغِے حَكَماٗ وَهْوَ اَ۬لذِے أَنزَلَ إِلَيْكُمُ اُ۬لْكِتَٰبَ مُفَصَّلاٗۖ
And those to whom We gave the Scripture know that it was sent down from your Guardian in truth;
وَالذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمُ اُ۬لْكِتَٰبَ يَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهُۥ مُنزَلٞ مِّن رَّبِّكَ بِالْحَقِّۖ
so never be among those who contend.
فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ اَ۬لْمُمْتَرِينَۖ
And the word of your Guardian has been completed, in veracity and in justice.
وَتَمَّتْ كَلِمَٰتُ رَبِّكَ صِدْقاٗ وَعَدْلاٗۖ
None can change His words,
لَّا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَٰتِهِۦۖ
and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
وَهْوَ اَ۬لسَّمِيعُ اُ۬لْعَلِيمُۖ
And if you defer to most of those on the earth, they will lead you astray from the way of God.
وَإِن تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَن فِے اِ۬لْأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَن سَبِيلِ اِ۬للَّهِۖ
They follow nothing but presumption,
إِنْ يَّتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا اَ۬لظَّنَّۖ
and they do nothing but guess.
وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَۖ
Your Guardian indeed knows best who strays from His way,
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ مَنْ يَّضِلُّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦۖ
and He knows best those who let themselves be guided.
وَهْوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَۖ
Eat, then, of that over which the name of God has been mentioned, if you are believers in His signs.
فَكُلُواْ مِمَّا ذُكِرَ اَ۪سْمُ اُ۬للَّهِ عَلَيْهِ إِن كُنتُم بِـَٔايَٰتِهِۦ مُؤْمِنِينَۖ
And what is with you that you should not eat of that over which the name of God has been mentioned, when He has detailed for you what He has prohibited to you, except what you are hard-pressed into?
وَمَا لَكُمْ أَلَّا تَأْكُلُواْ مِمَّا ذُكِرَ اَ۪سْمُ اُ۬للَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَقَدْ فَصَّلَ لَكُم مَّا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِلَّا مَا اَ۟ضْطُرِرْتُمْ إِلَيْهِۖ
And many surely lead astray by their emotions, without knowledge.
وَإِنَّ كَثِيراٗ لَّيَضِلُّونَ بِأَهْوَآئِهِم بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍۖ
Your Guardian knows best those who cross the limits.
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُعْتَدِينَۖ
And forsake transgression, uncovered and hidden.
۞ وَذَرُواْ ظَٰهِرَ اَ۬لْإِثْمِ وَبَاطِنَهُۥۖ
Those who acquire transgression will indeed be recompensed for what they used to commit.
إِنَّ اَ۬لذِينَ يَكْسِبُونَ اَ۬لْإِثْمَ سَيُجْزَوْنَ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَقْتَرِفُونَۖ
And do not eat of that over which the name of God has not been mentioned: it is surely an overstepping.
وَلَا تَأْكُلُواْ مِمَّا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ اِ۪سْمُ اُ۬للَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَفِسْقٞۖ
And the Diverters surely inspire their allies to argue with you;
وَإِنَّ اَ۬لشَّيَٰطِينَ لَيُوحُونَ إِلَىٰ أَوْلِيَآئِهِمْ لِيُجَٰدِلُوكُمْۖ
and if you deferred to them, you would surely be among those who associate.
وَإِنْ أَطَعْتُمُوهُمْ إِنَّكُمْ لَمُشْرِكُونَۖ
Is he who was dead, and to whom We gave life, and for whom We made a light with which he walks among men, like him whose example is to be in darknesses, unable to emerge from them?
أَوَمَن كَانَ مَيِّتاٗ فَأَحْيَيْنَٰهُ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُۥ نُوراٗ يَمْشِے بِهِۦ فِے اِ۬لنَّاسِ كَمَن مَّثَلُهُۥ فِے اِ۬لظُّلُمَٰتِ لَيْسَ بِخَارِجٖ مِّنْهَاۖ
Thus were embellished, for those who disown, the deeds they used to do.
كَذَٰلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ مَا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَۖ
And thus have We placed, in every city, the greatest of its severed, so that they might plot there;
وَكَذَٰلِكَ جَعَلْنَا فِے كُلِّ قَرْيَةٍ أَكَٰبِرَ مُجْرِمِيهَا لِيَمْكُرُواْ فِيهَاۖ
but they plot only against themselves, without sensing it.
وَمَا يَمْكُرُونَ إِلَّا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَۖ
And when a sign comes to them, they say: "We will not believe, until we are given the like of what was given to the messengers of God."
وَإِذَا جَآءَتْهُمْ ءَايَةٞ قَالُواْ لَن نُّؤْمِنَ حَتَّىٰ نُؤْتَىٰ مِثْلَ مَا أُوتِيَ رُسُلُ اُ۬للَّهِۖ
God knows best where to place His message.
اِ۬للَّهُ أَعْلَمُ حَيْثُ يَجْعَلُ رِسَٰلَٰتِهِۦۖ
A diminishment before God, and a severe punishment, will strike those who cut themselves off, for having plotted.
سَيُصِيبُ اُ۬لذِينَ أَجْرَمُواْ صَغَارٌ عِندَ اَ۬للَّهِ وَعَذَابٞ شَدِيدُۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَمْكُرُونَۖ
Whomever God wants to guide, He opens his chest to being true to God alone;
فَمَنْ يُّرِدِ اِ۬للَّهُ أَنْ يَّهْدِيَهُۥ يَشْرَحْ صَدْرَهُۥ لِلْإِسْلَٰمِۖ
and whomever He wants to lead astray, He makes his chest narrow and constricted, as if he were ascending into the sky.
وَمَنْ يُّرِدْ أَنْ يُّضِلَّهُۥ يَجْعَلْ صَدْرَهُۥ ضَيِّقاً حَرِجاٗ كَأَنَّمَا يَصَّعَّدُ فِے اِ۬لسَّمَآءِۖ
Thus does God place filth upon those who do not believe.
كَذَٰلِكَ يَجْعَلُ اُ۬للَّهُ اُ۬لرِّجْسَ عَلَى اَ۬لذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَۖ
And this is the path of your Guardian, straight.
وَهَٰذَا صِرَٰطُ رَبِّكَ مُسْتَقِيماٗۖ
We have indeed detailed the signs for a people who remember.
قَدْ فَصَّلْنَا اَ۬لْأٓيَٰتِ لِقَوْمٖ يَذَّكَّرُونَۖ
They have the Abode of Peace, with their Guardian,
۞ لَهُمْ دَارُ اُ۬لسَّلَٰمِ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْۖ
and He is their protector, for what they used to do.
وَهْوَ وَلِيُّهُم بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَۖ
And the day He gathers them all: "O assembly of the Occulted! You have indeed won over many of mankind";
وَيَوْمَ نَحْشُرُهُمْ جَمِيعاٗ يَٰمَعْشَرَ اَ۬لْجِنِّ قَدِ اِ۪سْتَكْثَرْتُم مِّنَ اَ۬لْإِنسِۖ
and their allies among humans will say: "Our Guardian, we enjoyed one another, and we have reached our term, the one You had set for us."
وَقَالَ أَوْلِيَآؤُهُم مِّنَ اَ۬لْإِنسِ رَبَّنَا اَ۪سْتَمْتَعَ بَعْضُنَا بِبَعْضٖ وَبَلَغْنَا أَجَلَنَا اَ۬لذِے أَجَّلْتَ لَنَاۖ
He will say: "The Fire is your sojourn, you abide therein eternally" — except what God wills.
قَالَ اَ۬لنَّارُ مَثْوَيٰكُمْ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ اَ۬للَّهُۖ
Your Guardian is indeed Wise, All-Knowing.
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٞۖ
And thus do We make the wrongdoers allies to one another, for what they used to earn.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُوَلِّے بَعْضَ اَ۬لظَّٰلِمِينَ بَعْضاَۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكْسِبُونَۖ
"O assembly of the Occulted and humans! Did messengers from among you not come to you, relating My signs to you and warning you of the meeting of this day of yours?"
يَٰمَعْشَرَ اَ۬لْجِنِّ وَالْإِنسِ أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ رُسُلٞ مِّنكُمْ يَقُصُّونَ عَلَيْكُمْ ءَايَٰتِے وَيُنذِرُونَكُمْ لِقَآءَ يَوْمِكُمْ هَٰذَاۖ
They will say: "We bear witness against ourselves";
قَالُواْ شَهِدْنَا عَلَىٰ أَنفُسِنَاۖ
and the present life deluded them, and they will bear witness against themselves that they were disowning.
وَغَرَّتْهُمُ اُ۬لْحَيَوٰةُ اُ۬لدُّنْيَا وَشَهِدُواْ عَلَىٰ أَنفُسِهِمْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ كَٰفِرِينَۖ
That is because it is not in the nature of your Guardian to annihilate cities wrongfully, while their inhabitants were heedless.
ذَٰلِكَ أَن لَّمْ يَكُن رَّبُّكَ مُهْلِكَ اَ۬لْقُرَىٰ بِظُلْمٖ وَأَهْلُهَا غَٰفِلُونَۖ
And to each, degrees, according to what they did.
وَلِكُلّٖ دَرَجَٰتٞ مِّمَّا عَمِلُواْۖ
And your Guardian is not heedless of what they do.
وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِغَٰفِلٍ عَمَّا يَعْمَلُونَۖ
And your Guardian is the Self-Sufficient, possessor of benevolence.
وَرَبُّكَ اَ۬لْغَنِيُّ ذُو اُ۬لرَّحْمَةِۖ
If He wills, He makes you disappear, and He makes succeed after you what He wills, as He brought you into being from the descendants of another people.
إِنْ يَّشَأْ يُذْهِبْكُمْ وَيَسْتَخْلِفْ مِنۢ بَعْدِكُم مَّا يَشَآءُ كَمَا أَنشَأَكُم مِّن ذُرِّيَّةِ قَوْمٍ ءَاخَرِينَۖ
What is promised to you will surely come,
إِنَّ مَا تُوعَدُونَ لَأٓتٖۖ
and you will not be able to render Him powerless.
وَمَا أَنتُم بِمُعْجِزِينَۖ
Say: "O my people! Act according to your position; I too am indeed acting.
۞ قُلْ يَٰقَوْمِ اِ۪عْمَلُواْ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِكُمْ إِنِّے عَامِلٞۖ
You will soon know to whom will belong the outcome of the abode.
فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ مَن تَكُونُ لَهُۥ عَٰقِبَةُ اُ۬لدَّارِۖ
The wrongdoers indeed do not succeed."
إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ اُ۬لظَّٰلِمُونَۖ
And they assigned to God, of what He scattered as tilth and cattle, a portion, saying: "This is for God" — according to their claim — "and this is for our associates";
وَجَعَلُواْ لِلهِ مِمَّا ذَرَأَ مِنَ اَ۬لْحَرْثِ وَالْأَنْعَٰمِ نَصِيباٗ فَقَالُواْ هَٰذَا لِلهِ بِزَعْمِهِمْ وَهَٰذَا لِشُرَكَآئِنَاۖ
and what is destined for their associates does not reach God,
فَمَا كَانَ لِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ فَلَا يَصِلُ إِلَى اَ۬للَّهِۖ
while what is destined for God, that reaches their associates.
وَمَا كَانَ لِلهِ فَهْوَ يَصِلُ إِلَىٰ شُرَكَآئِهِمْۖ
How evil is what they decide!
سَآءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَۖ
And thus have their associates embellished, for many of the associators, the killing of their children, so as to cause their fall and blur their Law for them.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ زَيَّنَ لِكَثِيرٖ مِّنَ اَ۬لْمُشْرِكِينَ قَتْلَ أَوْلَٰدِهِمْ شُرَكَآؤُهُمْ لِيُرْدُوهُمْ وَلِيَلْبِسُواْ عَلَيْهِمْ دِينَهُمْۖ
And had God willed, they would not have done it;
وَلَوْ شَآءَ اَ۬للَّهُ مَا فَعَلُوهُۖ
forsake them, then, and what they invent.
فَذَرْهُمْ وَمَا يَفْتَرُونَۖ
And they said: "This is cattle and tilth forbidden: none shall feed on them, except whom we will" — according to their claim — "and cattle whose backs are prohibited", and cattle over which they do not mention the name of God, in invention against Him.
وَقَالُواْ هَٰذِهِۦ أَنْعَٰمٞ وَحَرْثٌ حِجْرٞ لَّا يَطْعَمُهَا إِلَّا مَن نَّشَآءُ بِزَعْمِهِمْ وَأَنْعَٰمٌ حُرِّمَتْ ظُهُورُهَا وَأَنْعَٰمٞ لَّا يَذْكُرُونَ اَ۪سْمَ اَ۬للَّهِ عَلَيْهَا اَ۪فْتِرَآءً عَلَيْهِۖ
He will recompense them for what they used to invent.
سَيَجْزِيهِم بِمَا كَانُواْ يَفْتَرُونَۖ
And they said: "What is in the belly of this cattle belongs exclusively to our males, and is prohibited to our wives";
وَقَالُواْ مَا فِے بُطُونِ هَٰذِهِ اِ۬لْأَنْعَٰمِ خَالِصَةٞ لِّذُكُورِنَا وَمُحَرَّمٌ عَلَىٰ أَزْوَٰجِنَاۖ
but if it is a stillborn, they all share in it.
وَإِنْ يَّكُن مَّيْتَةٗ فَهُمْ فِيهِ شُرَكَآءُۖ
He will recompense them for their attribution.
سَيَجْزِيهِمْ وَصْفَهُمْۖ
He is Wise, All-Knowing.
إِنَّهُۥ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٞۖ
They are indeed losers, those who killed their children out of foolishness, without knowledge, and who held as prohibited what God had provided them, in invention against God.
۞ قَدْ خَسِرَ اَ۬لذِينَ قَتَلُواْ أَوْلَٰدَهُمْ سَفَهاَۢ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٖ وَحَرَّمُواْ مَا رَزَقَهُمُ اُ۬للَّهُ اُ۪فْتِرَآءً عَلَى اَ۬للَّهِۖ
They went astray, and they did not let themselves be guided.
قَدْ ضَلُّواْ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُهْتَدِينَۖ
And it is He who brought into being gardens, trellised and untrellised, as well as the palm tree and crops, of varied fare, and the olive and the pomegranate, resembling and not resembling.
وَهْوَ اَ۬لذِے أَنشَأَ جَنَّٰتٖ مَّعْرُوشَٰتٖ وَغَيْرَ مَعْرُوشَٰتٖ وَالنَّخْلَ وَالزَّرْعَ مُخْتَلِفاً أُكْلُهُۥۖ وَالزَّيْتُونَ وَالرُّمَّانَ مُتَشَٰبِهاٗ وَغَيْرَ مُتَشَٰبِهٖۖ
Eat of its fruit, when it bears fruit, and give its due, on the day of its harvest,
كُلُواْ مِن ثَمَرِهِۦ إِذَا أَثْمَرَ وَءَاتُواْ حَقَّهُۥ يَوْمَ حِصَادِهِۦۖ
but do not waste:
وَلَا تُسْرِفُواْۖ
He indeed does not love the wasteful.
إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ اُ۬لْمُسْرِفِينَۖ
And among the cattle, there are the pack animals and those of the fleece.
وَمِنَ اَ۬لْأَنْعَٰمِ حَمُولَةٗ وَفَرْشاٗۖ
Eat of what God has provided you,
كُلُواْ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اُ۬للَّهُۖ
and do not follow the footsteps of the Diverter:
وَلَا تَتَّبِعُواْ خُطْوَٰتِ اِ۬لشَّيْطَٰنِۖ
he is indeed for you a manifest enemy.
إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمْ عَدُوّٞ مُّبِينٞۖ
Eight, in pairs:
ثَمَٰنِيَةَ أَزْوَٰجٖۖ
of rams and ewes, two, and of goats, two.
مِّنَ اَ۬لضَّأْنِ اِ۪ثْنَيْنِ وَمِنَ اَ۬لْمَعْزِ اِ۪ثْنَيْنِۖ
Say: "Is it the two males He has prohibited, or the two females, or what the wombs of the two females contain?
قُلْ ءَآلذَّكَرَيْنِ حَرَّمَ أَمِ اِ۬لْأُنثَيَيْنِ أَمَّا اَ۪شْتَمَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ أَرْحَامُ اُ۬لْأُنثَيَيْنِۖ
Inform me with full knowledge, if you are veracious."
نَبِّـُٔونِے بِعِلْمٍ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَۖ
And of massive animals, two, and of cattle, two.
وَمِنَ اَ۬لْإِبِلِ اِ۪ثْنَيْنِ وَمِنَ اَ۬لْبَقَرِ اِ۪ثْنَيْنِۖ
Say: "Is it the two males He has prohibited, or the two females, or what the wombs of the two females contain?
قُلْ ءَآلذَّكَرَيْنِ حَرَّمَ أَمِ اِ۬لْأُنثَيَيْنِ أَمَّا اَ۪شْتَمَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ أَرْحَامُ اُ۬لْأُنثَيَيْنِۖ
Or were you witnesses, when God recommended this to you?"
أَمْ كُنتُمْ شُهَدَآءَ ا۪ذْ وَصَّيٰكُمُ اُ۬للَّهُ بِهَٰذَاۖ
Who then does more wrong than one who invents a lie against God, to lead men astray without knowledge?
فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ اِ۪فْتَرَىٰ عَلَى اَ۬للَّهِ كَذِباٗ لِّيُضِلَّ اَ۬لنَّاسَ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍۖ
God indeed does not guide the wrongdoing people.
إِنَّ اَ۬للَّهَ لَا يَهْدِے اِ۬لْقَوْمَ اَ۬لظَّٰلِمِينَۖ
Say: "I find, in what has been revealed to me, nothing prohibited to one who wants to feed on it, except that it be a dead animal, or spilled blood, or the flesh of swine — for that is filth —
۞ قُل لَّا أَجِدُ فِے مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ مُحَرَّماً عَلَىٰ طَاعِمٖ يَطْعَمُهُۥ إِلَّا أَنْ يَّكُونَ مَيْتَةً أَوْ دَماٗ مَّسْفُوحاً أَوْ لَحْمَ خِنزِيرٖ فَإِنَّهُۥ رِجْسٌۖ
or an overstepping consecrated to other than God.
أَوْ فِسْقاً أُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ اِ۬للَّهِ بِهِۦۖ
But whoever is hard-pressed into it, without being rebellious or crossing the limits — your Guardian is indeed Most-Forgiving, Benevolent."
فَمَنُ اُ۟ضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٖ وَلَا عَادٖ فَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٞۖ
And to the Reoriented, We prohibited every bearer of an uncloven hoof: and of cattle and sheep,
وَعَلَى اَ۬لذِينَ هَادُواْ حَرَّمْنَا كُلَّ ذِے ظُفُرٖۖ وَمِنَ اَ۬لْبَقَرِ وَالْغَنَمِۖ
We prohibited to them their fats, except what their backs carry, or the entrails, or what is mixed with a bone.
حَرَّمْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ شُحُومَهُمَا إِلَّا مَا حَمَلَتْ ظُهُورُهُمَا أَوِ اِ۬لْحَوَايَا أَوْ مَا اَ۪خْتَلَطَ بِعَظْمٖۖ
Thus did We recompense them for their iniquity,
ذَٰلِكَ جَزَيْنَٰهُم بِبَغْيِهِمْۖ
and We are surely veracious.
وَإِنَّا لَصَٰدِقُونَۖ
If they deny you, say then: "Your Guardian is possessor of a vast benevolence,
فَإِن كَذَّبُوكَ فَقُل رَّبُّكُمْ ذُو رَحْمَةٖ وَٰسِعَةٖۖ
and His rigor will not be turned away from the severed people."
وَلَا يُرَدُّ بَأْسُهُۥ عَنِ اِ۬لْقَوْمِ اِ۬لْمُجْرِمِينَۖ
Those who have associated will say: "Had God willed, we would not have associated, nor would our ancestors, and we would not have held anything as prohibited."
سَيَقُولُ اُ۬لذِينَ أَشْرَكُواْ لَوْ شَآءَ اَ۬للَّهُ مَا أَشْرَكْنَا وَلَا ءَابَآؤُنَا وَلَا حَرَّمْنَا مِن شَےْءٖۖ
Thus did those before them deny, until they tasted Our rigor.
كَذَٰلِكَ كَذَّبَ اَ۬لذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ ذَاقُواْ بَأْسَنَاۖ
Say: "Do you have any knowledge, that you could bring forth for us?
قُلْ هَلْ عِندَكُم مِّنْ عِلْمٖ فَتُخْرِجُوهُ لَنَاۖ
You follow nothing but presumption,
إِن تَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا اَ۬لظَّنَّۖ
and you do nothing but guess."
وَإِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا تَخْرُصُونَۖ
Say: "To God belongs the conclusive argument.
قُلْ فَلِلهِ اِ۬لْحُجَّةُ اُ۬لْبَٰلِغَةُۖ
Had He willed, He would have guided you all."
فَلَوْ شَآءَ لَهَدَيٰكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَۖ
Say: "Bring your witnesses, those who testify that God has prohibited this."
قُلْ هَلُمَّ شُهَدَآءَكُمُ اُ۬لذِينَ يَشْهَدُونَ أَنَّ اَ۬للَّهَ حَرَّمَ هَٰذَاۖ
If they testify, do not testify with them,
فَإِن شَهِدُواْ فَلَا تَشْهَدْ مَعَهُمْۖ
and do not follow the emotions of those who have denied Our signs, and of those who do not believe in the last life, and who set up equals to their Guardian.
وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ أَهْوَآءَ اَ۬لذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا وَالذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْأٓخِرَةِ وَهُم بِرَبِّهِمْ يَعْدِلُونَۖ
Say: "Come, let me recite what your Guardian has forbidden you: do not associate anything with Him;
۞ قُلْ تَعَالَوْاْ أَتْلُ مَا حَرَّمَ رَبُّكُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ أَلَّا تُشْرِكُواْ بِهِۦ شَئْاٗۖ
beneficence toward both parents;
وَبِالْوَٰلِدَيْنِ إِحْسَٰناٗۖ
and do not kill your children out of penury —
وَلَا تَقْتُلُواْ أَوْلَٰدَكُم مِّنْ إِمْلَٰقٖۖ
it is We who provide for you, and for them;
نَّحْنُ نَرْزُقُكُمْ وَإِيَّاهُمْۖ
and do not approach indecencies, uncovered or hidden;
وَلَا تَقْرَبُواْ اُ۬لْفَوَٰحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا بَطَنَۖ
and do not kill the Self that God has made inviolable, except by right;
وَلَا تَقْتُلُواْ اُ۬لنَّفْسَ اَ۬لتِے حَرَّمَ اَ۬للَّهُ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّۖ
that is what He has recommended to you, perhaps you will reason.
ذَٰلِكُمْ وَصَّيٰكُم بِهِۦ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَۖ
And do not approach the goods of the orphan, except in the most beautiful way, until he reaches his full maturity;
وَلَا تَقْرَبُواْ مَالَ اَ۬لْيَتِيمِ إِلَّا بِالتِے هِيَ أَحْسَنُ حَتَّىٰ يَبْلُغَ أَشُدَّهُۥۖ
and give the measure and the balance faithfully, with equity —
وَأَوْفُواْ اُ۬لْكَيْلَ وَالْمِيزَانَ بِالْقِسْطِۖ
We impose upon no Self except its capacity —
لَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْساً إِلَّا وُسْعَهَاۖ
and when you say a saying, be just, even toward a relative;
وَإِذَا قُلْتُمْ فَاعْدِلُواْ وَلَوْ كَانَ ذَا قُرْبَىٰۖ
and be faithful to the pact of God:
وَبِعَهْدِ اِ۬للَّهِ أَوْفُواْۖ
that is what He has recommended to you, perhaps you will remember.
ذَٰلِكُمْ وَصَّيٰكُم بِهِۦ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَّكَّرُونَۖ
And: this is my path, straight; follow it, then,
وَأَنَّ هَٰذَا صِرَٰطِے مُسْتَقِيماٗ فَاتَّبِعُوهُۖ
and do not follow the ways, which would separate you from His way:
وَلَا تَتَّبِعُواْ اُ۬لسُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمْ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦۖ
that is what He has recommended to you, perhaps you will guard yourselves."
ذَٰلِكُمْ وَصَّيٰكُم بِهِۦ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَۖ
Then We gave Moussa the Scripture, as a completion toward him who does good, as a detail of every thing, as a guidance and a benevolence, perhaps they would believe in the meeting with their Guardian.
ثُمَّ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى اَ۬لْكِتَٰبَ تَمَاماً عَلَى اَ۬لذِے أَحْسَنَ وَتَفْصِيلاٗ لِّكُلِّ شَےْءٖ وَهُدىٗ وَرَحْمَةٗ لَّعَلَّهُم بِلِقَآءِ رَبِّهِمْ يُؤْمِنُونَۖ
And here is a Scripture We have sent down, blessed; follow it, then, and guard yourselves, perhaps benevolence will be shown to you — lest you say: "The Scripture was sent down only upon two groups before us, and we were indeed heedless of their study", or lest you say: "Had the Scripture been sent down upon us, we would have been better guided than they."
وَهَٰذَا كِتَٰبٌ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ مُبَٰرَكٞ فَاتَّبِعُوهُ وَاتَّقُواْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ أَن تَقُولُواْ إِنَّمَا أُنزِلَ اَ۬لْكِتَٰبُ عَلَىٰ طَآئِفَتَيْنِ مِن قَبْلِنَا وَإِن كُنَّا عَن دِرَاسَتِهِمْ لَغَٰفِلِينَ أَوْ تَقُولُواْ لَوْ أَنَّا أُنزِلَ عَلَيْنَا اَ۬لْكِتَٰبُ لَكُنَّا أَهْدَىٰ مِنْهُمْۖ
A clear proof has thus come to you from your Guardian, as well as a guidance and a benevolence.
فَقَدْ جَآءَكُم بَيِّنَةٞ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَهُدىٗ وَرَحْمَةٞۖ
Who then does more wrong than one who has denied the signs of God and veered away from them?
فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن كَذَّبَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ اِ۬للَّهِ وَصَدَفَ عَنْهَاۖ
We will recompense those who veer away from Our signs with the worst punishment, for having veered away from them.
سَنَجْزِے اِ۬لذِينَ يَصْدِفُونَ عَنْ ءَايَٰتِنَا سُوٓءَ اَ۬لْعَذَابِ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَصْدِفُونَۖ
Do they await only that the Agents come to them, or that your Guardian come, or that some signs of your Guardian come?
۞ هَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا أَن تَأْتِيَهُمُ اُ۬لْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ أَوْ يَأْتِيَ رَبُّكَ أَوْ يَأْتِيَ بَعْضُ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّكَۖ
On the day certain signs of your Guardian come, the faith of a Self will not benefit it, if it did not believe before, or acquired, in its faith, no good.
يَوْمَ يَأْتِے بَعْضُ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّكَ لَا يَنفَعُ نَفْساً إِيمَٰنُهَا لَمْ تَكُنْ ءَامَنَتْ مِن قَبْلُ أَوْ كَسَبَتْ فِے إِيمَٰنِهَا خَيْراٗۖ
Say: "Wait:
قُلِ اِ۪نتَظِرُواْۖ
we are indeed waiting."
إِنَّا مُنتَظِرُونَۖ
Indeed, those who have divided their Law and become factions, you are in no way linked to them.
إِنَّ اَ۬لذِينَ فَرَّقُواْ دِينَهُمْ وَكَانُواْ شِيَعاٗ لَّسْتَ مِنْهُمْ فِے شَےْءٍۖ
Their matter rests only with God,
إِنَّمَا أَمْرُهُمْ إِلَى اَ۬للَّهِۖ
then He will inform them of what they used to do.
ثُمَّ يُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا كَانُواْ يَفْعَلُونَۖ
Whoever comes with the good deed has a right to ten times its equivalent,
مَن جَآءَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُۥ عَشْرُ أَمْثَالِهَاۖ
and whoever comes with the evil deed is recompensed only with its equivalent, without being wronged.
وَمَن جَآءَ بِالسَّيِّئَةِ فَلَا يُجْزَىٰ إِلَّا مِثْلَهَا وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَۖ
Say: "My Guardian has indeed guided me to a straight path,
قُلْ إِنَّنِے هَدَيٰنِے رَبِّيَ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٖ مُّسْتَقِيمٖۖ
an upright Law, the doctrine of Ibrahim, wholly turned toward God;
دِيناٗ قَيِّماٗ مِّلَّةَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ حَنِيفاٗۖ
and he was not among those who associate."
وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ اَ۬لْمُشْرِكِينَۖ
Say: "My Contact, my beneficent practice, my life, and my death indeed belong to God, Guardian of all beings; no associate to Him.
قُلْ إِنَّ صَلَاتِے وَنُسُكِے وَمَحْيَآےْ وَمَمَاتِيَ لِلهِ رَبِّ اِ۬لْعَٰلَمِينَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُۥۖ
And that is what I have been commanded,
وَبِذَٰلِكَ أُمِرْتُۖ
and I am the first of those true to God alone."
وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ اُ۬لْمُسْلِمِينَۖ
Say: "Should I seek a Guardian other than God, when He is the Guardian of every thing?"
قُلْ أَغَيْرَ اَ۬للَّهِ أَبْغِے رَبّاٗ وَهْوَ رَبُّ كُلِّ شَےْءٖۖ
And every Self acquires only to its own detriment,
وَلَا تَكْسِبُ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ إِلَّا عَلَيْهَاۖ
and no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another.
وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٞ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰۖ
Then to your Guardian will be your return, and He will inform you of what you used to differ over.
ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُم مَّرْجِعُكُمْ فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ فِيهِ تَخْتَلِفُونَۖ
And it is He who made you successors on the earth, and elevated some of you above others in degrees, so as to test you in what He has given you.
وَهْوَ اَ۬لذِے جَعَلَكُمْ خَلَٰٓئِفَ اَ۬لْأَرْضِ وَرَفَعَ بَعْضَكُمْ فَوْقَ بَعْضٖ دَرَجَٰتٖ لِّيَبْلُوَكُمْ فِے مَا ءَاتَيٰكُمْۖ
Your Guardian is indeed swift in sanction,
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ سَرِيعُ اُ۬لْعِقَابِۖ
and He is surely Most-Forgiving, Benevolent.
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَغَفُورٞ رَّحِيمُۢۖ
