Al-Furqan
The Discernment
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. Blessed is He who sent down the Discernment upon His obedient one, that he may be a warner to all beings,
بِسْمِ اِ۬للَّهِ اِ۬لرَّحْمَٰنِ اِ۬لرَّحِيمِ تَبَٰرَكَ اَ۬لذِے نَزَّلَ اَ۬لْفُرْقَانَ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِهِۦ لِيَكُونَ لِلْعَٰلَمِينَ نَذِيراًۖ
He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, who has taken no child and has no associate in the dominion,
اِ۬لذِے لَهُۥ مُلْكُ اُ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَلَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَداٗ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ شَرِيكٞ فِے اِ۬لْمُلْكِۖ
and who created everything and measured it with precision.
وَخَلَقَ كُلَّ شَےْءٖ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ تَقْدِيراٗۖ
Yet they have taken, besides Him, deities that create nothing and are themselves created, that possess for themselves neither harm nor benefit, and that possess neither death, nor life, nor Deployment.
وَاتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِهِۦ ءَالِهَةٗ لَّا يَخْلُقُونَ شَئْاٗ وَهُمْ يُخْلَقُونَ وَلَا يَمْلِكُونَ لِأَنفُسِهِمْ ضَرّاٗ وَلَا نَفْعاٗ وَلَا يَمْلِكُونَ مَوْتاٗ وَلَا حَيَوٰةٗ وَلَا نُشُوراٗۖ
And those who disown say: "This is nothing but a distortion he invented, and another group helped him with it."
وَقَالَ اَ۬لذِينَ كَفَرُواْ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا إِفْكٌ اِ۪فْتَرَيٰهُ وَأَعَانَهُۥ عَلَيْهِ قَوْمٌ ءَاخَرُونَۖ
They have thus come with wrongdoing and falsification, saying: "These are legends of the ancients that he has transcribed himself, dictated to him morning and evening."
فَقَدْ جَآءُو ظُلْماٗ وَزُوراٗ وَقَالُواْ أَسَٰطِيرُ اُ۬لْأَوَّلِينَ اَ۪كْتَتَبَهَا فَهْيَ تُمْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ بُكْرَةٗ وَأَصِيلاٗۖ
Say: "He who knows the secret of the heavens and the earth has sent it down.
قُلْ أَنزَلَهُ اُ۬لذِے يَعْلَمُ اُ۬لسِّرَّ فِے اِ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِۖ
He is Most-Forgiving, Benevolent."
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفُوراٗ رَّحِيماٗۖ
And they say: "What is with this messenger, that he eats food and walks in the marketplaces? Why has not an Agent been sent down to him to be a warner with him, or why is a treasure not thrown down to him, or why does he not have a garden to eat from!"
وَقَالُواْ مَالِ هَٰذَا اَ۬لرَّسُولِ يَأْكُلُ اُ۬لطَّعَامَ وَيَمْشِے فِے اِ۬لْأَسْوَاقِ لَوْلَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مَلَكٞ فَيَكُونَ مَعَهُۥ نَذِيراً أَوْ يُلْقَىٰ إِلَيْهِ كَنزٌ أَوْ تَكُونُ لَهُۥ جَنَّةٞ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهَاۖ
And the wrongdoers say: "You follow none but a man abused by illusion."
وَقَالَ اَ۬لظَّٰلِمُونَ إِن تَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا رَجُلاٗ مَّسْحُوراًۖ
Look how they have multiplied examples about you, and so gone astray: so they cannot find a way.
اُ۟نظُرْ كَيْفَ ضَرَبُواْ لَكَ اَ۬لْأَمْثَٰلَ فَضَلُّواْ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ سَبِيلاٗۖ
Blessed is He who, if He willed, would make for you better than that: gardens beneath which rivers flow, and He would make for you palaces.
۞ تَبَٰرَكَ اَ۬لذِے إِن شَآءَ جَعَلَ لَكَ خَيْراٗ مِّن ذَٰلِكَ جَنَّٰتٖ تَجْرِے مِن تَحْتِهَا اَ۬لْأَنْهَٰرُ وَيَجْعَل لَّكَ قُصُوراَۢۖ
But rather they have denied the Hour.
بَلْ كَذَّبُواْ بِالسَّاعَةِۖ
And We have made ready, for whoever denies the Hour, the Inferno. When it sees them from a distant place, they will hear its fury and a rattle.
وَأَعْتَدْنَا لِمَن كَذَّبَ بِالسَّاعَةِ سَعِيراً إِذَا رَأَتْهُم مِّن مَّكَانِۢ بَعِيدٖ سَمِعُواْ لَهَا تَغَيُّظاٗ وَزَفِيراٗۖ
And when they are thrown into a narrow place therein, bound together, they will call there for their ruin.
وَإِذَا أُلْقُواْ مِنْهَا مَكَاناٗ ضَيِّقاٗ مُّقَرَّنِينَ دَعَوْاْ هُنَالِكَ ثُبُوراٗۖ
Do not call today for a single ruin, but call for many ruins.
لَّا تَدْعُواْ اُ۬لْيَوْمَ ثُبُوراٗ وَٰحِداٗ وَادْعُواْ ثُبُوراٗ كَثِيراٗۖ
Say: "Is that better, or the garden of eternity promised to those who guard themselves?
قُلْ أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ أَمْ جَنَّةُ اُ۬لْخُلْدِ اِ۬لتِے وُعِدَ اَ۬لْمُتَّقُونَۖ
It will be for them a recompense and a destination."
كَانَتْ لَهُمْ جَزَآءٗ وَمَصِيراٗۖ
They will have therein whatever they will, abiding therein eternally —
لَّهُمْ فِيهَا مَا يَشَآءُونَ خَٰلِدِينَۖ
that is, on the part of your Guardian, a promise that is demanded.
كَانَ عَلَىٰ رَبِّكَ وَعْداٗ مَّسْـُٔولاٗۖ
And the day when He gathers them, them and what they obeyed besides God, He will say: "Was it you who led these obedient ones of Mine astray, or did they themselves stray from the way?"
وَيَوْمَ نَحْشُرُهُمْ وَمَا يَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اِ۬للَّهِ فَيَقُولُ ءَٰا۬نتُمْ أَضْلَلْتُمْ عِبَادِے هَٰؤُلَآءِ اَ۬مْ هُمْ ضَلُّواْ اُ۬لسَّبِيلَۖ
They will say: "Glory be to You! It was not fitting for us to take, besides You, any allies;
قَالُواْ سُبْحَٰنَكَ مَا كَانَ يَنۢبَغِے لَنَا أَن نَّتَّخِذَ مِن دُونِكَ مِنْ أَوْلِيَآءَۖ
but You granted them enjoyment, them and their ancestors, until they forgot the Reminder and became a blighted people."
وَلَٰكِن مَّتَّعْتَهُمْ وَءَابَآءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ نَسُواْ اُ۬لذِّكْرَ وَكَانُواْ قَوْماَۢ بُوراٗۖ
They have thus denied you in what you say; they can neither avert nor help.
فَقَدْ كَذَّبُوكُم بِمَا تَقُولُونَ فَمَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ صَرْفاٗ وَلَا نَصْراٗۖ
And whoever among you does wrong, We will make him taste a great punishment.
وَمَنْ يَّظْلِم مِّنكُمْ نُذِقْهُ عَذَاباٗ كَبِيراٗۖ
We did not send before you any of the envoys but that they surely ate food and walked in the marketplaces.
وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا قَبْلَكَ مِنَ اَ۬لْمُرْسَلِينَ إِلَّا إِنَّهُمْ لَيَأْكُلُونَ اَ۬لطَّعَامَ وَيَمْشُونَ فِے اِ۬لْأَسْوَاقِۖ
And We have made some of you a trial for others.
وَجَعَلْنَا بَعْضَكُمْ لِبَعْضٖ فِتْنَةًۖ
Will you endure?
أَتَصْبِرُونَۖ
Your Guardian is All-Seeing.
وَكَانَ رَبُّكَ بَصِيراٗۖ
And those who do not hope for Our meeting say: "Why are the Agents not sent down to us, or why do we not see our Guardian!"
۞ وَقَالَ اَ۬لذِينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ لِقَآءَنَا لَوْلَا أُنزِلَ عَلَيْنَا اَ۬لْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ أَوْ نَرَىٰ رَبَّنَاۖ
They have grown greatly proud within themselves and behaved with immense insolence.
لَقَدِ اِ۪سْتَكْبَرُواْ فِے أَنفُسِهِمْ وَعَتَوْ عُتُوّاٗ كَبِيراٗۖ
The day they see the Agents, there will be, on that day, no good tidings for the severed,
يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَ اَ۬لْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ لَا بُشْرَىٰ يَوْمَئِذٖ لِّلْمُجْرِمِينَۖ
and they will say: "A boundary
وَيَقُولُونَ حِجْراٗۖ
that cannot be crossed!"
مَّحْجُوراٗۖ
And We advanced upon every deed they had done, and We reduced it to scattered dust.
وَقَدِمْنَا إِلَىٰ مَا عَمِلُواْ مِنْ عَمَلٖ فَجَعَلْنَٰهُ هَبَآءٗ مَّنثُوراًۖ
The companions of the Garden, that day, will have a better haven and a more beautiful place of midday rest.
أَصْحَٰبُ اُ۬لْجَنَّةِ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَيْرٞ مُّسْتَقَرّاٗ وَأَحْسَنُ مَقِيلاٗۖ
And the day when the sky will split apart with the clouds, and the Agents will be sent down, a complete descent,
وَيَوْمَ تَشَّقَّقُ اُ۬لسَّمَآءُ بِالْغَمَٰمِ وَنُزِّلَ اَ۬لْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ تَنزِيلاًۖ
the dominion, that day, in all truth, will belong to the All-Benevolent,
اِ۬لْمُلْكُ يَوْمَئِذٍ اِ۬لْحَقُّ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِۖ
and it will be, for those who disown, a difficult day.
وَكَانَ يَوْماً عَلَى اَ۬لْكَٰفِرِينَ عَسِيراٗۖ
And the day the wrongdoer bites his hands, he will say: "Ah, if only I had taken a way with the messenger! Woe to me! If only I had not taken so-and-so as an intimate friend! He led me astray from the Reminder after it had reached me."
وَيَوْمَ يَعَضُّ اُ۬لظَّالِمُ عَلَىٰ يَدَيْهِ يَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِے اِ۪تَّخَذتُّ مَعَ اَ۬لرَّسُولِ سَبِيلاٗ يَٰوَيْلَتَىٰ لَيْتَنِے لَمْ أَتَّخِذْ فُلَٰناً خَلِيلاٗ لَّقَدْ أَضَلَّنِے عَنِ اِ۬لذِّكْرِ بَعْدَ إِذْ جَآءَنِےۖ
The Diverter is, for the human being, one who always abandons him.
وَكَانَ اَ۬لشَّيْطَٰنُ لِلْإِنسَٰنِ خَذُولاٗۖ
And the messenger said: "O my Guardian, my people have indeed deserted this Recitation."
وَقَالَ اَ۬لرَّسُولُ يَٰرَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِيَ اَ۪تَّخَذُواْ هَٰذَا اَ۬لْقُرْءَانَ مَهْجُوراٗۖ
Thus have We assigned to every informant an enemy from among the severed.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ جَعَلْنَا لِكُلِّ نَبِےٓءٍ عَدُوّاٗ مِّنَ اَ۬لْمُجْرِمِينَۖ
And your Guardian suffices as guide and as help.
وَكَفَىٰ بِرَبِّكَ هَادِياٗ وَنَصِيراٗۖ
And those who disown say: "Why was the Recitation not sent down upon him all at once!"
وَقَالَ اَ۬لذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ اِ۬لْقُرْءَانُ جُمْلَةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗۖ
Thus, so that We may make your Conscience firm through it —
كَذَٰلِكَ لِنُثَبِّتَ بِهِۦ فُؤَادَكَۖ
and We have set it out in measured order.
وَرَتَّلْنَٰهُ تَرْتِيلاٗۖ
And they bring you no example without Our bringing you the truth and a more beautiful explanation.
وَلَا يَأْتُونَكَ بِمَثَلٍ إِلَّا جِئْنَٰكَ بِالْحَقِّ وَأَحْسَنَ تَفْسِيراًۖ
Those who will be gathered upon their faces toward Jahannam — those have the worst place and the most astray way.
اِ۬لذِينَ يُحْشَرُونَ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ شَرّٞ مَّكَاناٗ وَأَضَلُّ سَبِيلاٗۖ
We certainly gave Moussa the Scripture, and We placed with him his brother Harun as an assistant.
۞ وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى اَ۬لْكِتَٰبَ وَجَعَلْنَا مَعَهُۥ أَخَاهُ هَٰرُونَ وَزِيراٗۖ
We said: "Go, both of you, to the people who have denied Our signs."
فَقُلْنَا اَ۪ذْهَبَا إِلَى اَ۬لْقَوْمِ اِ۬لذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَاۖ
And We destroyed them utterly.
فَدَمَّرْنَٰهُمْ تَدْمِيراٗۖ
And the people of Nuh, when they denied the messengers, We drowned them and made them a sign for mankind.
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٖ لَّمَّا كَذَّبُواْ اُ۬لرُّسُلَ أَغْرَقْنَٰهُمْ وَجَعَلْنَٰهُمْ لِلنَّاسِ ءَايَةٗۖ
And We have made ready for the wrongdoers a painful punishment.
وَأَعْتَدْنَا لِلظَّٰلِمِينَ عَذَاباً أَلِيماٗۖ
And the Aad, and the Thamud, and the companions of ar-Rass, and many generations between those times,
وَعَاداٗ وَثَمُوداٗ وَأَصْحَٰبَ اَ۬لرَّسِّ وَقُرُوناَۢ بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ كَثِيراٗۖ
and to each We multiplied the examples,
وَكُلّاٗ ضَرَبْنَا لَهُ اُ۬لْأَمْثَٰلَۖ
and each one, We devastated utterly.
وَكُلّاٗ تَبَّرْنَا تَتْبِيراٗۖ
Yet they passed by the city that had been rained upon with a dreadful rain:
وَلَقَدْ أَتَوْاْ عَلَى اَ۬لْقَرْيَةِ اِ۬لتِے أُمْطِرَتْ مَطَرَ اَ۬لسَّوْءِۖ
did they not see it, then?
اَ۬فَلَمْ يَكُونُواْ يَرَوْنَهَاۖ
But they did not hope for any Deployment.
بَلْ كَانُواْ لَا يَرْجُونَ نُشُوراٗۖ
And when they see you, they take you only as an object of mockery:
وَإِذَا رَأَوْكَ إِنْ يَّتَّخِذُونَكَ إِلَّا هُزُؤاًۖ
"Is this the one God has raised up as a messenger? He nearly led us astray from our deities, had we not remained firmly attached to them!"
أَهَٰذَا اَ۬لذِے بَعَثَ اَ۬للَّهُ رَسُولاً إِن كَادَ لَيُضِلُّنَا عَنْ ءَالِهَتِنَا لَوْلَا أَن صَبَرْنَا عَلَيْهَاۖ
And they will know, when they see the punishment, who was most astray from the way.
وَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ حِينَ يَرَوْنَ اَ۬لْعَذَابَ مَنْ أَضَلُّ سَبِيلاًۖ
Have you seen him who has taken his emotion as his deity? Would you then be his trustee?
أَرَٰ۬يْتَ مَنِ اِ۪تَّخَذَ إِلَٰهَهُۥ هَوَيٰهُ أَفَأَنتَ تَكُونُ عَلَيْهِ وَكِيلاًۖ
Or do you think that most of them hear or reason?
أَمْ تَحْسِبُ أَنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ يَسْمَعُونَ أَوْ يَعْقِلُونَۖ
They are but like cattle — no, they are even more astray from the way.
إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا كَالْأَنْعَٰمِ بَلْ هُمْ أَضَلُّ سَبِيلاًۖ
Have you not seen your Guardian, how He extends the shadow?
۞ أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَيْفَ مَدَّ اَ۬لظِّلَّۖ
And had He willed, He would have made it still.
وَلَوْ شَآءَ لَجَعَلَهُۥ سَاكِناٗۖ
Then We made the sun its indicator; then We drew it back to Us, an easy drawing-back.
ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَا اَ۬لشَّمْسَ عَلَيْهِ دَلِيلاٗ ثُمَّ قَبَضْنَٰهُ إِلَيْنَا قَبْضاٗ يَسِيراٗۖ
It is He who made for you the night a garment, sleep a rest, and the day a time of deployment.
وَهْوَ اَ۬لذِے جَعَلَ لَكُمُ اُ۬ليْلَ لِبَاساٗ وَالنَّوْمَ سُبَاتاٗ وَجَعَلَ اَ۬لنَّهَارَ نُشُوراٗۖ
It is He who has sent the winds, as bearers of good tidings, before His benevolence,
وَهْوَ اَ۬لذِے أَرْسَلَ اَ۬لرِّيَٰحَ نُشُراَۢ بَيْنَ يَدَےْ رَحْمَتِهِۦۖ
and We sent down from the sky a purifying water, to bring a dead land back to life through it, and to give drink from it to many of the cattle and human beings We created.
وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ اَ۬لسَّمَآءِ مَآءٗ طَهُوراٗ لِّنُحْـِۧيَ بِهِۦ بَلْدَةٗ مَّيْتاٗ وَنُسْقِيَهُۥ مِمَّا خَلَقْنَا أَنْعَٰماٗ وَأَنَاسِيَّ كَثِيراٗۖ
We diversified it among them so that they might remember; but most men refused everything except disowning.
وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَٰهُ بَيْنَهُمْ لِيَذَّكَّرُواْ فَأَبَىٰ أَكْثَرُ اُ۬لنَّاسِ إِلَّا كُفُوراٗۖ
And had We willed, We would have raised up in every city a warner.
وَلَوْ شِئْنَا لَبَعَثْنَا فِے كُلِّ قَرْيَةٖ نَّذِيراٗۖ
So do not defer to those who disown,
فَلَا تُطِعِ اِ۬لْكَٰفِرِينَۖ
and strive against them through it with a great striving.
وَجَٰهِدْهُم بِهِۦ جِهَاداٗ كَبِيراٗۖ
It is He who made the two seas meet: this one sweet, fresh, and that one salty, bitter.
وَهْوَ اَ۬لذِے مَرَجَ اَ۬لْبَحْرَيْنِ هَٰذَا عَذْبٞ فُرَاتٞ وَهَٰذَا مِلْحٌ أُجَاجٞۖ
And He placed between them a barrier and a boundary that cannot be crossed.
وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَهُمَا بَرْزَخاٗ وَحِجْراٗ مَّحْجُوراٗۖ
It is He who, from water, created a human, and made of him lineage and kinship by marriage.
وَهْوَ اَ۬لذِے خَلَقَ مِنَ اَ۬لْمَآءِ بَشَراٗ فَجَعَلَهُۥ نَسَباٗ وَصِهْراٗۖ
Your Guardian is Capable.
وَكَانَ رَبُّكَ قَدِيراٗۖ
And they obey, besides God, that which neither benefits nor harms them;
وَيَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اِ۬للَّهِ مَا لَا يَنفَعُهُمْ وَلَا يَضُرُّهُمْۖ
and he who disowns becomes a support against his Guardian.
وَكَانَ اَ۬لْكَافِرُ عَلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ ظَهِيراٗۖ
We have sent you only as a bearer of good tidings and a warner.
وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّراٗ وَنَذِيراٗۖ
Say: "I ask of you no reward for this, except that whoever wills take a way to his Guardian."
قُلْ مَا أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِلَّا مَن شَا أَنْ يَّتَّخِذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلاٗۖ
And entrust yourself to the Living One who does not die,
وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اَ۬لْحَيِّ اِ۬لذِے لَا يَمُوتُۖ
and glorify Him in praise.
وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِهِۦۖ
And He suffices, He, as Intimately Acquainted with the offenses of His obedient ones.
وَكَفَىٰ بِهِۦ بِذُنُوبِ عِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيراًۖ
He who created the heavens and the earth and what is between them in six days, then established Himself upon the Edifice —
اِ۬لذِے خَلَقَ اَ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِے سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٖ ثُمَّ اَ۪سْتَوَىٰ عَلَى اَ۬لْعَرْشِۖ
the All-Benevolent.
اِ۬لرَّحْمَٰنُۖ
So ask about Him an Intimately Acquainted One.
فَسْـَٔلْ بِهِۦ خَبِيراٗۖ
And when it is said to them: "Prostrate before the All-Benevolent," they say: "What is the All-Benevolent?
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ اُ۟سْجُدُواْ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ قَالُواْ وَمَا اَ۬لرَّحْمَٰنُۖ
Shall we prostrate before what you order us?" And it only increases their recoil.
أَنَسْجُدُ لِمَا تَأْمُرُنَا وَزَادَهُمْ نُفُوراٗۖ۩
Blessed is He who placed in the sky constellations, and placed therein a torch and an illuminating moon.
۞ تَبَٰرَكَ اَ۬لذِے جَعَلَ فِے اِ۬لسَّمَآءِ بُرُوجاٗ وَجَعَلَ فِيهَا سِرَٰجاٗ وَقَمَراٗ مُّنِيراٗۖ
It is He who made the night and the day a succession, for whoever wants to remember or wants to be grateful.
وَهْوَ اَ۬لذِے جَعَلَ اَ۬ليْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ خِلْفَةٗ لِّمَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَّذَّكَّرَ أَوْ أَرَادَ شُكُوراٗۖ
And the obedient ones of the All-Benevolent are those who walk upon the earth gently, and who, when the ignorant address them, say: "Peace."
وَعِبَادُ اُ۬لرَّحْمَٰنِ اِ۬لذِينَ يَمْشُونَ عَلَى اَ۬لْأَرْضِ هَوْناٗ وَإِذَا خَاطَبَهُمُ اُ۬لْجَٰهِلُونَ قَالُواْ سَلَٰماٗۖ
And those who spend the night prostrating and standing for their Guardian,
وَالذِينَ يَبِيتُونَ لِرَبِّهِمْ سُجَّداٗ وَقِيَٰماٗۖ
and those who say: "Our Guardian, turn away from us the punishment of Jahannam — for its punishment is an unforeseen levy;
وَالذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اَ۪صْرِفْ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَ إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَاماًۖ
it is indeed an evil haven and an evil station" —
إِنَّهَا سَآءَتْ مُسْتَقَرّاٗ وَمُقَاماٗۖ
and those who, when they spend, neither waste nor withhold excessively, standing between the two with just measure,
وَالذِينَ إِذَا أَنفَقُواْ لَمْ يُسْرِفُواْ وَلَمْ يُقْتِرُواْ وَكَانَ بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ قَوَاماٗۖ
and those who do not invoke, with God, any other deity, and who do not kill the Self that God has made inviolable, except by right, and who do not commit fornication —
وَالذِينَ لَا يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اَ۬للَّهِ إِلَٰهاً ءَاخَرَ وَلَا يَقْتُلُونَ اَ۬لنَّفْسَ اَ۬لتِے حَرَّمَ اَ۬للَّهُ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا يَزْنُونَۖ
and whoever does that will meet with grave transgression: the punishment will be doubled for him on the Day of Appearance, and he will abide therein eternally, degraded, except him who repents, believes, and does sound work — those, God will change their bad deeds into good deeds,
وَمَنْ يَّفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ يَلْقَ أَثَاماٗ يُضَٰعَفْ لَهُ اُ۬لْعَذَابُ يَوْمَ اَ۬لْقِيَٰمَةِ وَيَخْلُدْ فِيهِ مُهَاناً إِلَّا مَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ عَمَلاٗ صَٰلِحاٗ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ يُبَدِّلُ اُ۬للَّهُ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ حَسَنَٰتٖۖ
and God is Most-Forgiving, Benevolent.
وَكَانَ اَ۬للَّهُ غَفُوراٗ رَّحِيماٗۖ
And whoever repents and does a sound deed indeed turns back to God, a full turning back.
وَمَن تَابَ وَعَمِلَ صَٰلِحاٗ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَتُوبُ إِلَى اَ۬للَّهِ مَتَاباٗۖ
And those who do not bear witness to falsification, and who, when they pass by idle talk, pass with dignity,
وَالذِينَ لَا يَشْهَدُونَ اَ۬لزُّورَ وَإِذَا مَرُّواْ بِاللَّغْوِ مَرُّواْ كِرَاماٗۖ
and those who, when reminded by the signs of their Guardian, do not fall on them deaf and blind,
وَالذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِّرُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ لَمْ يَخِرُّواْ عَلَيْهَا صُمّاٗ وَعُمْيَاناٗۖ
and those who say: "Our Guardian, bestow on us, from our spouses and our descendants, a rest of the gaze, and make us a guide for those who guard themselves" —
وَالذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَٰجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّٰتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٖ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَاماًۖ
those will be recompensed with the high chamber for their patience, and will be received therein with a greeting and a peace, abiding therein eternally.
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ يُجْزَوْنَ اَ۬لْغُرْفَةَ بِمَا صَبَرُواْ وَيُلَقَّوْنَ فِيهَا تَحِيَّةٗ وَسَلَٰماً خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَاۖ
What an excellent haven and an excellent station!
حَسُنَتْ مُسْتَقَرّاٗ وَمُقَاماٗۖ
Say: "My Guardian would care little for you, were it not for your invocation.
قُلْ مَا يَعْبَؤُاْ بِكُمْ رَبِّے لَوْلَا دُعَآؤُكُمْۖ
You have thus denied, and it will become inevitable."
فَقَدْ كَذَّبْتُمْ فَسَوْفَ يَكُونُ لِزَاماَۢۖ
