Al-Ma'ida

O you who have believed! Be faithful to your contracts.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَوْفُوا۟ بِٱلْعُقُودِ

Permitted to you are the livestock beasts, except what is recited to you — without permitting yourselves the hunt, during the inviolable months.

أُحِلَّتْ لَكُم بَهِيمَةُ ٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ إِلَّا مَا يُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ غَيْرَ مُحِلِّى ٱلصَّيْدِ وَأَنتُمْ حُرُمٌ

O you who have believed! Do not hold as permitted the perceptible markers of God, nor the inviolable month, nor the voluntary offerings, nor the vow-bound offerings, nor those heading toward the Inviolable House, seeking a favor from their Guardian and a good pleasure.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تُحِلُّوا۟ شَعَٰٓئِرَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا ٱلشَّهْرَ ٱلْحَرَامَ وَلَا ٱلْهَدْىَ وَلَا ٱلْقَلَٰٓئِدَ وَلَآ ءَآمِّينَ ٱلْبَيْتَ ٱلْحَرَامَ يَبْتَغُونَ فَضْلًۭا مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَرِضْوَٰنًۭا

And once these months have passed, hunt.

وَإِذَا حَلَلْتُمْ فَٱصْطَادُوا۟

And let not the hatred of a people, for having barred you from the inviolable place of prostration, drive you to aggression.

وَلَا يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْ شَنَـَٔانُ قَوْمٍ إِن صَدُّوكُمْ عَنِ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ أَن تَعْتَدُوا۟

Help one another in virtue and guardedness,

وَتَعَاوَنُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلْبِرِّ وَٱلتَّقْوَىٰ

and do not help one another in transgression and hostility.

وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْعُدْوَٰنِ

And guard yourselves toward God:

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ

Prohibited to you are: the dead animal, blood, the flesh of swine, that which has been consecrated to other than God, the strangled animal, the animal on the brink of death, the animal in a declining state from illness, the animal dead from a blow of the horn, and what a wild beast has devoured — except what you have purified by fire — as well as the animal slaughtered in common whose shares are then drawn by lot with arrows.

حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْمَيْتَةُ وَٱلدَّمُ وَلَحْمُ ٱلْخِنزِيرِ وَمَآ أُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ ٱللَّهِ بِهِۦ وَٱلْمُنْخَنِقَةُ وَٱلْمَوْقُوذَةُ وَٱلْمُتَرَدِّيَةُ وَٱلنَّطِيحَةُ وَمَآ أَكَلَ ٱلسَّبُعُ إِلَّا مَا ذَكَّيْتُمْ وَمَا ذُبِحَ عَلَى ٱلنُّصُبِ وَأَن تَسْتَقْسِمُوا۟ بِٱلْأَزْلَٰمِ

That is an overstepping.

ذَٰلِكُمْ فِسْقٌ

Today, those who disown have lost hope of your Law;

ٱلْيَوْمَ يَئِسَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن دِينِكُمْ

so do not dread them, but dread Me.

فَلَا تَخْشَوْهُمْ وَٱخْشَوْنِ

Today, I have perfected for you your Law, I have completed My blessing upon you, and I have approved for you being true to God alone as your Law.

ٱلْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِى وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ ٱلْإِسْلَٰمَ دِينًۭا

They ask you: what is permitted to them?

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ مَاذَآ أُحِلَّ لَهُمْ

Say: "Permitted to you are the wholesome things, as well as the hunting animals you have instructed as trainers, teaching them from what God has taught you.

قُلْ أُحِلَّ لَكُمُ ٱلطَّيِّبَٰتُ وَمَا عَلَّمْتُم مِّنَ ٱلْجَوَارِحِ مُكَلِّبِينَ تُعَلِّمُونَهُنَّ مِمَّا عَلَّمَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ

So eat of what they catch for you, and mention the name of God over it.

فَكُلُوا۟ مِمَّآ أَمْسَكْنَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱسْمَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ

And guard yourselves toward God:

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ

Today, the wholesome things are permitted to you. The food of those to whom the Scripture was given is permitted to you, and your food is permitted to them. And the women protected by the marital bond among the believers, and the women protected by the marital bond among those to whom the Scripture was given before you, when you give them their rewards, as men who commit to the marital bond, not in debauchery nor as takers of secret lovers.

ٱلْيَوْمَ أُحِلَّ لَكُمُ ٱلطَّيِّبَٰتُ وَطَعَامُ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ حِلٌّۭ لَّكُمْ وَطَعَامُكُمْ حِلٌّۭ لَّهُمْ وَٱلْمُحْصَنَٰتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ وَٱلْمُحْصَنَٰتُ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ إِذَآ ءَاتَيْتُمُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ مُحْصِنِينَ غَيْرَ مُسَٰفِحِينَ وَلَا مُتَّخِذِىٓ أَخْدَانٍۢ

O you who have believed! When you rise for the Contact, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, and wipe your heads,

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا قُمْتُمْ إِلَى ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ فَٱغْسِلُوا۟ وُجُوهَكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ إِلَى ٱلْمَرَافِقِ وَٱمْسَحُوا۟ بِرُءُوسِكُمْ

and your feet up to the knees.

وَأَرۡجُلِكُمۡ إِلَى ٱلْكَعْبَيْنِ

And if you have soiled yourselves, wash yourselves.

وَإِن كُنتُمْ جُنُبًۭا فَٱطَّهَّرُوا۟

And if you are sick, or on a journey, or one of you has come from relieving himself, or you have known a woman in intimacy, and you find no water, then aim at wholesome ground, and wipe your faces and your hands with it.

وَإِن كُنتُم مَّرْضَىٰٓ أَوْ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍ أَوْ جَآءَ أَحَدٌۭ مِّنكُم مِّنَ ٱلْغَآئِطِ أَوْ لَٰمَسْتُمُ ٱلنِّسَآءَ فَلَمْ تَجِدُوا۟ مَآءًۭ فَتَيَمَّمُوا۟ صَعِيدًۭا طَيِّبًۭا فَٱمْسَحُوا۟ بِوُجُوهِكُمْ وَأَيْدِيكُم مِّنْهُ

God does not want to impose any discomfort on you,

مَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ لِيَجْعَلَ عَلَيْكُم مِّنْ حَرَجٍۢ

And remember God's blessing upon you, and His solemn engagement, by which He bound you, when you said: "We have heard and we have deferred."

وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَمِيثَٰقَهُ ٱلَّذِى وَاثَقَكُم بِهِۦٓ إِذْ قُلْتُمْ سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا

And guard yourselves toward God:

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ

O you who have believed! Be firm supporters for God, bearing witness with equity,

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُونُوا۟ قَوَّٰمِينَ لِلَّهِ شُهَدَآءَ بِٱلْقِسْطِ

and let not the hatred of a people drive you to not be just.

وَلَا يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْ شَنَـَٔانُ قَوْمٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَلَّا تَعْدِلُوا۟

Be just: it is closer to guardedness.

ٱعْدِلُوا۟ هُوَ أَقْرَبُ لِلتَّقْوَىٰ

And guard yourselves toward God:

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ

O you who have believed! Remember God's blessing upon you, when a people was minded to stretch out their hands toward you, and He held their hands back from you.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ هَمَّ قَوْمٌ أَن يَبْسُطُوٓا۟ إِلَيْكُمْ أَيْدِيَهُمْ فَكَفَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنكُمْ

And guard yourselves toward God:

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ

God has indeed taken the solemn engagement of the Sons of Israel, and We raised up, among them, twelve leaders.

وَلَقَدْ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِيثَٰقَ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَبَعَثْنَا مِنْهُمُ ٱثْنَىْ عَشَرَ نَقِيبًۭا

And God said: "I am indeed with you.

وَقَالَ ٱللَّهُ إِنِّى مَعَكُمْ

If you maintain the Contact, give pure liberality, believe in My messengers, champion them, and make God a beautiful loan, I will certainly cover your evil deeds, and I will certainly admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow.

لَئِنْ أَقَمْتُمُ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَيْتُمُ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَءَامَنتُم بِرُسُلِى وَعَزَّرْتُمُوهُمْ وَأَقْرَضْتُمُ ٱللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًۭا لَّأُكَفِّرَنَّ عَنكُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ وَلَأُدْخِلَنَّكُمْ جَنَّٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ

For having broken their solemn engagement, We cursed them and made their cores hard: they displace words from their context, and have forgotten a share of what they had been reminded of.

فَبِمَا نَقْضِهِم مِّيثَٰقَهُمْ لَعَنَّٰهُمْ وَجَعَلْنَا قُلُوبَهُمْ قَٰسِيَةًۭ يُحَرِّفُونَ ٱلْكَلِمَ عَن مَّوَاضِعِهِۦ وَنَسُوا۟ حَظًّۭا مِّمَّا ذُكِّرُوا۟ بِهِۦ

And you will not cease to discover among them a betrayal, except a small number of them.

وَلَا تَزَالُ تَطَّلِعُ عَلَىٰ خَآئِنَةٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا مِّنْهُمْ

So overlook it for them and turn the page:

فَٱعْفُ عَنْهُمْ وَٱصْفَحْ

And among those who said: "We are indeed the Helpers", We took their solemn engagement, but they forgot a share of what they had been reminded of; We then unleashed among them enmity and hatred, until the Day of Appearance;

وَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا نَصَٰرَىٰٓ أَخَذْنَا مِيثَٰقَهُمْ فَنَسُوا۟ حَظًّۭا مِّمَّا ذُكِّرُوا۟ بِهِۦ فَأَغْرَيْنَا بَيْنَهُمُ ٱلْعَدَاوَةَ وَٱلْبَغْضَآءَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ

A light has indeed come to you from God, as well as a clear Scripture, by which God guides whoever follows His good pleasure toward the ways of peace,

قَدْ جَآءَكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ نُورٌۭ وَكِتَٰبٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ يَهْدِى بِهِ ٱللَّهُ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ رِضْوَٰنَهُۥ سُبُلَ ٱلسَّلَٰمِ

and brings them out of the darknesses toward the light, with His permission,

وَيُخْرِجُهُم مِّنَ ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ بِإِذْنِهِۦ

They have indeed disowned, those who said: "God, that is Al-Massih, son of Maryam."

لَّقَدْ كَفَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْمَسِيحُ ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ

Say: "Who then would hold any power against God, if He wanted to annihilate Al-Massih, son of Maryam, and his mother, and all those on the earth?"

قُلْ فَمَن يَمْلِكُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيْـًٔا إِنْ أَرَادَ أَن يُهْلِكَ ٱلْمَسِيحَ ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥ وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًۭا

To God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and of what is between them.

وَلِلَّهِ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا

He creates what He wills.

يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ

And the Reoriented and the Helpers said: "We are the sons of God and His beloved."

وَقَالَتِ ٱلْيَهُودُ وَٱلنَّصَٰرَىٰ نَحْنُ أَبْنَٰٓؤُا۟ ٱللَّهِ وَأَحِبَّٰٓؤُهُۥ

Say: "Why then does He punish you for your offenses?

قُلْ فَلِمَ يُعَذِّبُكُم بِذُنُوبِكُم

You are rather humans, among those He created.

بَلْ أَنتُم بَشَرٌۭ مِّمَّنْ خَلَقَ

He forgives whom He wills, and He punishes whom He wills."

يَغْفِرُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيُعَذِّبُ مَن يَشَآءُ

To God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and of what is between them,

وَلِلَّهِ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا

O people of the Scripture! Our messenger has indeed come to you, making clear to you after a break in messengers, lest you say: "No bearer of good tidings nor warner has come to us" — a bearer of good tidings and a warner has thus indeed come to you.

يَٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ قَدْ جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولُنَا يُبَيِّنُ لَكُمْ عَلَىٰ فَتْرَةٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلرُّسُلِ أَن تَقُولُوا۟ مَا جَآءَنَا مِنۢ بَشِيرٍۢ وَلَا نَذِيرٍۢ فَقَدْ جَآءَكُم بَشِيرٌۭ وَنَذِيرٌۭ

And when Moussa said to his people: "O my people! Remember God's blessing upon you, when He placed among you informants, and made you kings,

وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِۦ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ جَعَلَ فِيكُمْ أَنۢبِيَآءَ وَجَعَلَكُم مُّلُوكًۭا

O my people! Enter the sanctified land that God has prescribed for you,

يَٰقَوْمِ ٱدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْأَرْضَ ٱلْمُقَدَّسَةَ ٱلَّتِى كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ

They said: "O Moussa! There is indeed there a people of tyrants,

قَالُوا۟ يَٰمُوسَىٰٓ إِنَّ فِيهَا قَوْمًۭا جَبَّارِينَ

and we will indeed not enter it until they have left it;

وَإِنَّا لَن نَّدْخُلَهَا حَتَّىٰ يَخْرُجُوا۟ مِنْهَا

Two men, among those who feared, to whom God had granted His blessing, said: "Enter upon them by the gate;

قَالَ رَجُلَانِ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ أَنْعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمَا ٱدْخُلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْبَابَ

once you have entered it, you will indeed be the victors.

فَإِذَا دَخَلْتُمُوهُ فَإِنَّكُمْ غَٰلِبُونَ

He said: "My Guardian, I indeed possess power only over my own Self

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى لَآ أَمْلِكُ إِلَّا نَفْسِى

and my brother;

وَأَخِى

He said: "It is, then, prohibited to them, forever,

قَالَ فَإِنَّهَا مُحَرَّمَةٌ عَلَيْهِمْ

forty years, wandering on the earth.

أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةًۭ يَتِيهُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ

And recite to them, in truth, the information of the two sons of Adam, when each offered an offering: it was accepted from one, and was not accepted from the other.

وَٱتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ ٱبْنَىْ ءَادَمَ بِٱلْحَقِّ إِذْ قَرَّبَا قُرْبَانًۭا فَتُقُبِّلَ مِنْ أَحَدِهِمَا وَلَمْ يُتَقَبَّلْ مِنَ ٱلْءَاخَرِ

The latter said: "I will certainly kill you."

قَالَ لَأَقْتُلَنَّكَ

If you stretch out your hand toward me to kill me, I will not stretch out my hand toward you to kill you;

لَئِنۢ بَسَطتَ إِلَىَّ يَدَكَ لِتَقْتُلَنِى مَآ أَنَا۠ بِبَاسِطٍۢ يَدِىَ إِلَيْكَ لِأَقْتُلَكَ

I want you to return burdened with my transgression and yours, and to be among the companions of the Fire:

إِنِّىٓ أُرِيدُ أَن تَبُوٓأَ بِإِثْمِى وَإِثْمِكَ فَتَكُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَٰبِ ٱلنَّارِ

He said: "Woe to me! Am I unable to be like this raven, and to conceal my brother's nakedness?" And he then found himself among those who regret.

قَالَ يَٰوَيْلَتَىٰٓ أَعَجَزْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِثْلَ هَٰذَا ٱلْغُرَابِ فَأُوَٰرِىَ سَوْءَةَ أَخِى فَأَصْبَحَ مِنَ ٱلنَّٰدِمِينَ مِنْ أَجْلِ ذَٰلِكَ

That is why We prescribed for the Sons of Israel that whoever kills a Self, without it being for another Self, or for corruption on the earth, it is as if he had killed all mankind together,

كَتَبْنَا عَلَىٰ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ أَنَّهُۥ مَن قَتَلَ نَفْسًۢا بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ أَوْ فَسَادٍۢ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَتَلَ ٱلنَّاسَ جَمِيعًۭا

and whoever gives life to one, it is as if he had given life to all mankind together.

وَمَنْ أَحْيَاهَا فَكَأَنَّمَآ أَحْيَا ٱلنَّاسَ جَمِيعًۭا

The only recompense of those who wage war against God and His messenger, and endeavour to sow corruption on the earth, is that they be massacred, or crucified, or have their hands and feet cut off on opposite sides, or be exiled from the earth.

إِنَّمَا جَزَٰٓؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ يُحَارِبُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَيَسْعَوْنَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَسَادًا أَن يُقَتَّلُوٓا۟ أَوْ يُصَلَّبُوٓا۟ أَوْ تُقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَرْجُلُهُم مِّنْ خِلَٰفٍ أَوْ يُنفَوْا۟ مِنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ

Indeed, those who disown, were they to possess all that is on earth, and its equivalent with it, to ransom themselves from the punishment of the Day of Appearance, it would not be accepted from them,

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْ أَنَّ لَهُم مَّا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًۭا وَمِثْلَهُۥ مَعَهُۥ لِيَفْتَدُوا۟ بِهِۦ مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ مَا تُقُبِّلَ مِنْهُمْ

They will want to come out of the Fire, but they will not come out of it,

يُرِيدُونَ أَن يَخْرُجُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلنَّارِ وَمَا هُم بِخَٰرِجِينَ مِنْهَا

And as for the thief, male and female, stop their supports, as a recompense for what they have earned, as an exemplary deterrent from God.

وَٱلسَّارِقُ وَٱلسَّارِقَةُ فَٱقْطَعُوٓا۟ أَيْدِيَهُمَا جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَسَبَا نَكَٰلًۭا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ

But whoever turns back after his wrongdoing, and becomes sound, God turns toward him with clemency.

فَمَن تَابَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ظُلْمِهِۦ وَأَصْلَحَ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَتُوبُ عَلَيْهِ

Do you not know that to God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth?

أَلَمْ تَعْلَمْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ

He punishes whom He wills, and He forgives whom He wills.

يُعَذِّبُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَغْفِرُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ

O messenger! Let not those grieve you who speed into disowning, among those who say: "We have believed" with their mouths, without their cores having believed,

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلرَّسُولُ لَا يَحْزُنكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِى ٱلْكُفْرِ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ وَلَمْ تُؤْمِن قُلُوبُهُمْ

nor among the Reoriented, listeners to falsehood, listeners on behalf of another people who has not come to you.

وَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُوا۟ سَمَّٰعُونَ لِلْكَذِبِ سَمَّٰعُونَ لِقَوْمٍ ءَاخَرِينَ لَمْ يَأْتُوكَ

They displace words once set in their places, saying: "If you are given this, take it; and if you are not given it, beware."

يُحَرِّفُونَ ٱلْكَلِمَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَوَاضِعِهِۦ يَقُولُونَ إِنْ أُوتِيتُمْ هَٰذَا فَخُذُوهُ وَإِن لَّمْ تُؤْتَوْهُ فَٱحْذَرُوا۟

And whoever God wants to put to the trial, you hold nothing for him against God.

وَمَن يُرِدِ ٱللَّهُ فِتْنَتَهُۥ فَلَن تَمْلِكَ لَهُۥ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيْـًٔا

Those are the ones whose cores God has not wanted to purify.

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يُرِدِ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُطَهِّرَ قُلُوبَهُمْ

They have, in the present life, a disgrace,

لَهُمْ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا خِزْىٌۭ

Listeners to falsehood, devourers of illicit gain —

سَمَّٰعُونَ لِلْكَذِبِ أَكَّٰلُونَ لِلسُّحُتِ

if they come to you, judge between them, then, or turn away from them;

فَإِن جَآءُوكَ فَٱحْكُم بَيْنَهُمْ أَوْ أَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ

and if you turn away from them, they cannot harm you at all.

وَإِن تُعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ فَلَن يَضُرُّوكَ شَيْـًۭٔا

And if you judge, judge then between them with equity:

وَإِنْ حَكَمْتَ فَٱحْكُم بَيْنَهُم بِٱلْقِسْطِ

And how would they take you as judge, when they have the Tawrah, wherein is the judgment of God, and then they turn their backs after that?

وَكَيْفَ يُحَكِّمُونَكَ وَعِندَهُمُ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةُ فِيهَا حُكْمُ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ يَتَوَلَّوْنَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ

We sent down the Tawrah, wherein is guidance and light; the informants, who were true to God alone, judged by it the Reoriented, as did the spiritual masters and the rabbis, according to what they were entrusted to preserve of God's Scripture, and they were witnesses to it.

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَا ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ فِيهَا هُدًۭى وَنُورٌۭ يَحْكُمُ بِهَا ٱلنَّبِيُّونَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسْلَمُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ هَادُوا۟ وَٱلرَّبَّٰنِيُّونَ وَٱلْأَحْبَارُ بِمَا ٱسْتُحْفِظُوا۟ مِن كِتَٰبِ ٱللَّهِ وَكَانُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ شُهَدَآءَ

So do not dread men, but dread Me,

فَلَا تَخْشَوُا۟ ٱلنَّاسَ وَٱخْشَوْنِ

and do not buy, with My signs, a paltry price.

وَلَا تَشْتَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِى ثَمَنًۭا قَلِيلًۭا

And We prescribed for them, in it: the Self in exchange for the Self, the eye in exchange for the eye, the nose in exchange for the nose, the ear in exchange for the ear, the tooth in exchange for the tooth, and for wounds, an investigation.

وَكَتَبْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ فِيهَآ أَنَّ ٱلنَّفْسَ بِٱلنَّفْسِ وَٱلْعَيْنَ بِٱلْعَيْنِ وَٱلْأَنفَ بِٱلْأَنفِ وَٱلْأُذُنَ بِٱلْأُذُنِ وَٱلسِّنَّ بِٱلسِّنِّ وَاَلۡجُرُوحُ قِصَاصٌۭ

But whoever forgoes it as charity, it serves as an expiation for him.

فَمَن تَصَدَّقَ بِهِۦ فَهُوَ كَفَّارَةٌۭ لَّهُۥ

And We made Issa, son of Maryam, follow in their footsteps, confirming what, of the Tawrah, preceded him,

وَقَفَّيْنَا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَٰرِهِم بِعِيسَى ٱبْنِ مَرْيَمَ مُصَدِّقًۭا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ

And let the people of the Injil judge according to what God sent down in it.

وَلْيَحْكُمْ أَهْلُ ٱلْإِنجِيلِ بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فِيهِ

And We have sent down to you the Scripture, in truth, confirming what, of the Scripture, preceded it, and prevailing over it.

وَأَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ مُصَدِّقًۭا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَمُهَيْمِنًا عَلَيْهِ

Judge, then, between them according to what God has sent down,

فَٱحْكُم بَيْنَهُم بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ

and do not follow their emotions, away from what has come to you of the truth.

وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ عَمَّا جَآءَكَ مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ

To each of you, We have assigned a law and a way.

لِكُلٍّۢ جَعَلْنَا مِنكُمْ شِرْعَةًۭ وَمِنْهَاجًۭا

And had God willed, He would have made you one community;

وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَجَعَلَكُمْ أُمَّةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ

but so as to test you in what He has given you.

وَلَٰكِن لِّيَبْلُوَكُمْ فِى مَآ ءَاتَىٰكُمْ

Race, then, in good deeds.

فَٱسْتَبِقُوا۟ ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ

And: judge between them according to what God has sent down,

وَأَنِ ٱحْكُم بَيْنَهُم بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ

and do not follow their emotions,

وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ

and be wary lest they turn you away, through trial, from part of what God has sent down to you.

وَٱحْذَرْهُمْ أَن يَفْتِنُوكَ عَنۢ بَعْضِ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَيْكَ

And if they turn their backs, know then that God wants only to strike them for a part of their offenses.

فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَٱعْلَمْ أَنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُصِيبَهُم بِبَعْضِ ذُنُوبِهِمْ

Would they then seek the judgment of the age of ignorance?

أَفَحُكْمَ ٱلْجَٰهِلِيَّةِ يَبْغُونَ

O you who have believed! Do not take the Reoriented and the Helpers as allies:

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ ٱلْيَهُودَ وَٱلنَّصَٰرَىٰٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ

they are allies of one another.

بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَآءُ بَعْضٍۢ

And whoever among you takes them as allies is then of them.

وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُم مِّنكُمْ فَإِنَّهُۥ مِنْهُمْ

You see those in whose cores is a sickness speeding among them, saying: "We dread that a setback may strike us";

فَتَرَى ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌۭ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِيهِمْ يَقُولُونَ نَخْشَىٰٓ أَن تُصِيبَنَا دَآئِرَةٌۭ

O you who have believed! Whoever among you renounces his Law — God will bring a people whom He loves and who love Him, humbling itself before the believers, mighty toward those who disown, striving in the way of God, and fearing not the censure of any censurer.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَن يَرْتَدَّ مِنكُمْ عَن دِينِهِۦ فَسَوْفَ يَأْتِى ٱللَّهُ بِقَوْمٍۢ يُحِبُّهُمْ وَيُحِبُّونَهُۥٓ أَذِلَّةٍ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَعِزَّةٍ عَلَى ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ يُجَٰهِدُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا يَخَافُونَ لَوْمَةَ لَآئِمٍۢ

That is the favor of God, which He grants to whom He wills.

ذَٰلِكَ فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَن يَشَآءُ

O you who have believed! Do not take as allies those who have made a mockery and a game of your Law, among those to whom the Scripture was given before you, and those who disown.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ دِينَكُمْ هُزُؤٗا وَلَعِبًۭا مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ وَاَلۡكُفّ۪ارِ أَوْلِيَآءَ

And when you call to the Contact, they take it for mockery and play:

وَإِذَا نَادَيْتُمْ إِلَى ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ ٱتَّخَذُوهَا هُزُؤٗا وَلَعِبًۭا

Say: "Shall I inform you of a requital worse than that, with God? He whom God has cursed, with whom He was angered, and of whom He made apes and swine, and he who obeyed the Overreacher —

قُلْ هَلْ أُنَبِّئُكُم بِشَرٍّۢ مِّن ذَٰلِكَ مَثُوبَةً عِندَ ٱللَّهِ مَن لَّعَنَهُ ٱللَّهُ وَغَضِبَ عَلَيْهِ وَجَعَلَ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْقِرَدَةَ وَٱلْخَنَازِيرَ وَعَبَدَ ٱلطَّٰغُوتَ

And when they come to you, they say: "We have believed" — while they entered with disowning, and left with it.

وَإِذَا جَآءُوكُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا وَقَد دَّخَلُوا۟ بِٱلْكُفْرِ وَهُمْ قَدْ خَرَجُوا۟ بِهِۦ

And you see many of them speeding into transgression, hostility, and the consumption of illicit gain.

وَتَرَىٰ كَثِيرًۭا مِّنْهُمْ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِى ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْعُدْوَٰنِ وَأَكْلِهِمُ اِ۬لسُّحُتَ

Why do the spiritual masters and the rabbis not forbid them from uttering transgressive saying and consuming illicit gain!

لَوْلَا يَنْهَىٰهُمُ ٱلرَّبَّٰنِيُّونَ وَٱلْأَحْبَارُ عَن قَوْلِهِمُ ٱلْإِثْمَ وَأَكْلِهِمُ اِ۬لسُّحُتَ

And the Reoriented said: "God's hand is shackled."

وَقَالَتِ ٱلْيَهُودُ يَدُ ٱللَّهِ مَغْلُولَةٌ

May their hands be shackled, and may they be cursed for what they have said!

غُلَّتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَلُعِنُوا۟ بِمَا قَالُوا۟

No, His two hands are wide open: He spends as He wills.

بَلْ يَدَاهُ مَبْسُوطَتَانِ يُنفِقُ كَيْفَ يَشَآءُ

And what has been sent down to you from your Guardian will certainly increase, among many of them, immoderation and disowning.

وَلَيَزِيدَنَّ كَثِيرًۭا مِّنْهُم مَّآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ طُغْيَٰنًۭا وَكُفْرًۭا

And We have cast among them enmity and hatred, until the Day of Appearance.

وَأَلْقَيْنَا بَيْنَهُمُ ٱلْعَدَٰوَةَ وَٱلْبَغْضَآءَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ

Every time they kindle a fire for war, God extinguishes it,

كُلَّمَآ أَوْقَدُوا۟ نَارًۭا لِّلْحَرْبِ أَطْفَأَهَا ٱللَّهُ

and they endeavour to sow corruption on the earth.

وَيَسْعَوْنَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَسَادًۭا

And had they maintained the Tawrah, the Injil, and what was sent down to them from their Guardian, they would indeed have eaten of what is above them and of what is beneath their feet.

وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ أَقَامُوا۟ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ وَٱلْإِنجِيلَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِم مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ لَأَكَلُوا۟ مِن فَوْقِهِمْ وَمِن تَحْتِ أَرْجُلِهِم

Among them, there is a moderate community,

مِّنْهُمْ أُمَّةٌۭ مُّقْتَصِدَةٌۭ

O messenger! Convey what has been sent down to you from your Guardian,

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلرَّسُولُ بَلِّغْ مَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ

and if you do not do so, you will not have conveyed His message.

وَإِن لَّمْ تَفْعَلْ فَمَا بَلَّغْتَ رِسَالَتَهُۥ

God safeguards you from men.

وَٱللَّهُ يَعْصِمُكَ مِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ

Say: "O people of the Scripture! You stand on nothing, until you maintain the Tawrah, the Injil, and what has been sent down to you from your Guardian."

قُلْ يَٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ لَسْتُمْ عَلَىٰ شَىْءٍ حَتَّىٰ تُقِيمُوا۟ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ وَٱلْإِنجِيلَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ

And what has been sent down to you from your Guardian will certainly increase, among many of them, immoderation and disowning.

وَلَيَزِيدَنَّ كَثِيرًۭا مِّنْهُم مَّآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ طُغْيَٰنًۭا وَكُفْرًۭا

We indeed took the solemn engagement of the Sons of Israel, and We sent them messengers.

لَقَدْ أَخَذْنَا مِيثَٰقَ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَأَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْهِمْ رُسُلًۭا

And they thought there would be no trial; they then became blind and deaf; then God turned toward them with clemency; then, again, they became blind and deaf,

وَحَسِبُوٓا۟ أَلَّا تَكُونُ فِتْنَةٌۭ فَعَمُوا۟ وَصَمُّوا۟ ثُمَّ تَابَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ثُمَّ عَمُوا۟ وَصَمُّوا۟

many of them.

كَثِيرٌۭ مِّنْهُمْ

They have indeed disowned, those who said: "God, that is Al-Massih, son of Maryam."

لَقَدْ كَفَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْمَسِيحُ ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ

And Al-Massih said: "O Sons of Israel! Obey God, my Guardian and your Guardian.

وَقَالَ ٱلْمَسِيحُ يَٰبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ رَبِّى وَرَبَّكُمْ

Whoever associates with God, God indeed prohibits the Garden to him, and his refuge will be the Fire."

إِنَّهُۥ مَن يُشْرِكْ بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدْ حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْجَنَّةَ وَمَأْوَىٰهُ ٱلنَّارُ

They have indeed disowned, those who said: "God is the third of three."

لَّقَدْ كَفَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ثَالِثُ ثَلَٰثَةٍۢ

But there is no deity except one deity.

وَمَا مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ إِلَّآ إِلَٰهٌۭ وَٰحِدٌۭ

Will they not then turn back to God, and ask His forgiveness?

أَفَلَا يَتُوبُونَ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَهُۥ

Al-Massih, son of Maryam, is only a messenger; messengers indeed passed before him,

مَّا ٱلْمَسِيحُ ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ إِلَّا رَسُولٌۭ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِ ٱلرُّسُلُ

and his mother was a veracious woman;

وَأُمُّهُۥ صِدِّيقَةٌۭ

both of them ate food.

كَانَا يَأْكُلَانِ ٱلطَّعَامَ

Say: "Do you obey, besides God, what holds for you neither harm nor benefit?

قُلْ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّۭا وَلَا نَفْعًۭا

Say: "O people of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your Law, beyond the truth,

قُلْ يَٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ لَا تَغْلُوا۟ فِى دِينِكُمْ غَيْرَ ٱلْحَقِّ

They have been cursed, those among the Sons of Israel who disowned, by the tongue of Dawud and Issa, son of Maryam.

لُعِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنۢ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ عَلَىٰ لِسَانِ دَاوُۥدَ وَعِيسَى ٱبْنِ مَرْيَمَ

They did not forbid one another a disavowed act which they committed:

كَانُوا۟ لَا يَتَنَاهَوْنَ عَن مُّنكَرٍۢ فَعَلُوهُ

You see many of them allying themselves with those who disown:

تَرَىٰ كَثِيرًۭا مِّنْهُمْ يَتَوَلَّوْنَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟

And had they believed in God, in the informant, and in what was sent down to him, they would not have taken them as allies;

وَلَوْ كَانُوا۟ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلنَّبِىِّ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مَا ٱتَّخَذُوهُمْ أَوْلِيَآءَ

You will certainly find that the most hostile of men toward those who have believed are the Reoriented and those who have associated,

لَتَجِدَنَّ أَشَدَّ ٱلنَّاسِ عَدَٰوَةًۭ لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱلْيَهُودَ وَٱلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا۟

and you will certainly find that the closest in affection toward those who have believed are those who say: "We are indeed the Helpers."

وَلَتَجِدَنَّ أَقْرَبَهُم مَّوَدَّةًۭ لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا نَصَٰرَىٰ

God then requited them, for what they said, with gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide eternally.

فَأَثَٰبَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِمَا قَالُوا۟ جَنَّٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا

O you who have believed! Do not hold as prohibited the wholesome things God has permitted you, and do not cross the limits:

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تُحَرِّمُوا۟ طَيِّبَٰتِ مَآ أَحَلَّ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ وَلَا تَعْتَدُوٓا۟

And eat of what God has provided you, of what is permitted and wholesome,

وَكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ حَلَٰلًۭا طَيِّبًۭا

God will not hold you to account for idle talk in your oaths,

لَا يُؤَاخِذُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِٱللَّغْوِ فِىٓ أَيْمَٰنِكُمْ

but He will hold you to account for the oaths you have firmly concluded.

وَلَٰكِن يُؤَاخِذُكُم بِمَا عَقَّدتُّمُ ٱلْأَيْمَٰنَ

The expiation for it will be to feed ten destitute persons, of the best food with which you feed your families, or to clothe them, or to restore the independence of a person bound by a debt;

فَكَفَّٰرَتُهُۥٓ إِطْعَامُ عَشَرَةِ مَسَٰكِينَ مِنْ أَوْسَطِ مَا تُطْعِمُونَ أَهْلِيكُمْ أَوْ كِسْوَتُهُمْ أَوْ تَحْرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍۢ

and whoever does not find the means, then an abstention of three days.

فَمَن لَّمْ يَجِدْ فَصِيَامُ ثَلَٰثَةِ أَيَّامٍۢ

That is the expiation of your oaths, when you take oaths.

ذَٰلِكَ كَفَّٰرَةُ أَيْمَٰنِكُمْ إِذَا حَلَفْتُمْ

And preserve your oaths.

وَٱحْفَظُوٓا۟ أَيْمَٰنَكُمْ

The Diverter wants only to cast, among you, by wine and games of chance, enmity and hatred, and to bar you from the remembrance of God and from the Contact.

إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ أَن يُوقِعَ بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْعَدَٰوَةَ وَٱلْبَغْضَآءَ فِى ٱلْخَمْرِ وَٱلْمَيْسِرِ وَيَصُدَّكُمْ عَن ذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ وَعَنِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ

And defer to God, and defer to the messenger, and beware.

وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَٱحْذَرُوا۟

No blame upon those who have believed and done sound deeds, for what they have fed on, so long as they guarded themselves, believed, and did sound deeds, then guarded themselves and believed, then guarded themselves and did good.

لَيْسَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ جُنَاحٌۭ فِيمَا طَعِمُوٓا۟ إِذَا مَا ٱتَّقَوا۟ وَّءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ ثُمَّ ٱتَّقَوا۟ وَّءَامَنُوا۟ ثُمَّ ٱتَّقَوا۟ وَّأَحْسَنُوا۟

O you who have believed! God will certainly test you with some game that will fall to your hands and your spears, so that God may distinguish who fears Him even though He escapes his senses.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَيَبْلُوَنَّكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِشَىْءٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلصَّيْدِ تَنَالُهُۥٓ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَرِمَاحُكُمْ لِيَعْلَمَ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَخَافُهُۥ بِٱلْغَيْبِ

O you who have believed! Do not kill game during the inviolable months.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَقْتُلُوا۟ ٱلصَّيْدَ وَأَنتُمْ حُرُمٌۭ

And whoever among you kills it intentionally, an equivalent recompense in cattle, as two just ones among you shall decide, as an offering reaching the Ka'ba, or an expiation consisting of feeding the destitute, or the equivalent of that in abstention, so that he may taste the baleful consequences of his deed.

وَمَن قَتَلَهُۥ مِنكُم مُّتَعَمِّدًۭا فَجَزَآءُ مِثۡلِ مَا قَتَلَ مِنَ ٱلنَّعَمِ يَحْكُمُ بِهِۦ ذَوَا عَدْلٍۢ مِّنكُمْ هَدْيًۢا بَٰلِغَ ٱلْكَعْبَةِ أَوْ كَفَّٰرَةٌۭ طَعَامُ مَسَٰكِينَ أَوْ عَدْلُ ذَٰلِكَ صِيَامًۭا لِّيَذُوقَ وَبَالَ أَمْرِهِۦ

God has overlooked what is bygone;

عَفَا ٱللَّهُ عَمَّا سَلَفَ

but whoever relapses, God will take vengeance upon him.

وَمَنْ عَادَ فَيَنتَقِمُ ٱللَّهُ مِنْهُ

Permitted to you is the hunt of the sea and its food,

أُحِلَّ لَكُمْ صَيْدُ ٱلْبَحْرِ وَطَعَامُهُۥ

as an enjoyment for you and for travelers;

مَتَٰعًۭا لَّكُمْ وَلِلسَّيَّارَةِ

but prohibited to you is the hunt of the land for as long as the inviolable months last.

وَحُرِّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ صَيْدُ ٱلْبَرِّ مَا دُمْتُمْ حُرُمًۭا

God has made the Ka'ba, the Inviolable House, a support for mankind, as well as the inviolable month, the voluntary offerings, and the vow-bound offerings.

جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْكَعْبَةَ ٱلْبَيْتَ ٱلْحَرَامَ قِيَٰمًۭا لِّلنَّاسِ وَٱلشَّهْرَ ٱلْحَرَامَ وَٱلْهَدْىَ وَٱلْقَلَٰٓئِدَ

Only the transmission is incumbent upon the messenger.

مَّا عَلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَٰغُ

Say: "The vile and the wholesome are not equal, even if the abundance of the vile dazzles you."

قُل لَّا يَسْتَوِى ٱلْخَبِيثُ وَٱلطَّيِّبُ وَلَوْ أَعْجَبَكَ كَثْرَةُ ٱلْخَبِيثِ

O you who have believed! Do not ask about things which, if they appeared to you, would vex you.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَسْـَٔلُوا۟ عَنْ أَشْيَآءَ إِن تُبْدَ لَكُمْ تَسُؤْكُمْ

And if you ask them while this Recitation is being sent down, they will appear to you. God has overlooked that.

وَإِن تَسْـَٔلُوا۟ عَنْهَا حِينَ يُنزَلُ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ تُبْدَ لَكُمْ عَفَا ٱللَّهُ عَنْهَا

God did not institute any bahira, sa'iba, wasila, or ham,

مَا جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ مِنۢ بَحِيرَةٍۢ وَلَا سَآئِبَةٍۢ وَلَا وَصِيلَةٍۢ وَلَا حَامٍۢ

And when it is said to them: "Come to what God has sent down, and to the messenger", they say: "It suffices us what we found our ancestors upon."

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ قَالُوا۟ حَسْبُنَا مَا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ ءَابَآءَنَآ

O you who have believed! Look to yourselves:

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ عَلَيْكُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ

he who strays cannot harm you, so long as you let yourselves be guided.

لَا يَضُرُّكُم مَّن ضَلَّ إِذَا ٱهْتَدَيْتُمْ

O you who have believed! Testimony between you, when death presents itself to one of you, at the time of the testament: two just ones among you, or two others, outside your circle, if you travel through the land and the calamity of death strikes you.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ شَهَٰدَةُ بَيْنِكُمْ إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ حِينَ ٱلْوَصِيَّةِ ٱثْنَانِ ذَوَا عَدْلٍۢ مِّنكُمْ أَوْ ءَاخَرَانِ مِنْ غَيْرِكُمْ إِنْ أَنتُمْ ضَرَبْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَأَصَٰبَتْكُم مُّصِيبَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ

You will hold them both in suspense after the Contact, and they will both swear by God, if you have doubts: "We will not buy anything with it, at any price, even toward a relative,

تَحْبِسُونَهُمَا مِنۢ بَعْدِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ فَيُقْسِمَانِ بِٱللَّهِ إِنِ ٱرْتَبْتُمْ لَا نَشْتَرِى بِهِۦ ثَمَنًۭا وَلَوْ كَانَ ذَا قُرْبَىٰ

But if it is discovered that both have been guilty of a transgression, two others will take their place, from among those against whom the wrong was committed, the two nearest, and they will both swear

فَإِنْ عُثِرَ عَلَىٰٓ أَنَّهُمَا ٱسْتَحَقَّآ إِثْمًۭا فَـَٔاخَرَانِ يَقُومَانِ مَقَامَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ اَ۟سۡتُحِقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْأَوْلَيَٰنِ فَيُقْسِمَانِ

by God: "Our testimony is indeed more worthy than theirs, and we have not crossed the limits;

بِٱللَّهِ لَشَهَٰدَتُنَآ أَحَقُّ مِن شَهَٰدَتِهِمَا وَمَا ٱعْتَدَيْنَآ

That is closer to the testimony brought in its proper form, or to their fear that other oaths might be opposed to their oaths.

ذَٰلِكَ أَدْنَىٰٓ أَن يَأْتُوا۟ بِٱلشَّهَٰدَةِ عَلَىٰ وَجْهِهَآ أَوْ يَخَافُوٓا۟ أَن تُرَدَّ أَيْمَٰنٌۢ بَعْدَ أَيْمَٰنِهِمْ

And guard yourselves toward God,

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ

and listen.

وَٱسْمَعُوا۟

The day God brings the messengers together, and says: "What answer were you given?"

يَوْمَ يَجْمَعُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَيَقُولُ مَاذَآ أُجِبْتُمْ

when God will say: "O Issa, son of Maryam! Remember My blessing upon you and upon your mother, when I fortified you with the sacred Influx, you spoke to men in the cradle and in your prime,

إِذْ قَالَ ٱللَّهُ يَٰعِيسَى ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ ٱذْكُرْ نِعْمَتِى عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَىٰ وَٰلِدَتِكَ إِذْ أَيَّدتُّكَ بِرُوحِ ٱلْقُدُسِ تُكَلِّمُ ٱلنَّاسَ فِى ٱلْمَهْدِ وَكَهْلًۭا

and when I taught you the Code, the wisdom, the Tawrah, and the Injil;

وَإِذْ عَلَّمْتُكَ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ وَٱلْإِنجِيلَ

and when you created out of clay the form of a bird, with My permission, then breathed into it, and it became a bird, with My permission;

وَإِذْ تَخْلُقُ مِنَ ٱلطِّينِ كَهَيْـَٔةِ ٱلطَّيْرِ بِإِذْنِى فَتَنفُخُ فِيهَا فَتَكُونُ طَيْرًۢا بِإِذْنِى

and you restored the born-blind and the leper, with My permission;

وَتُبْرِئُ ٱلْأَكْمَهَ وَٱلْأَبْرَصَ بِإِذْنِى

and when you brought forth the dead, with My permission;

وَإِذْ تُخْرِجُ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ بِإِذْنِى

And when I revealed to the disciples: "Believe in Me and in My messenger";

وَإِذْ أَوْحَيْتُ إِلَى ٱلْحَوَارِيِّـۧنَ أَنْ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِى وَبِرَسُولِى

when the disciples said: "O Issa, son of Maryam! Can your Guardian send down to us a table from the sky?"

إِذْ قَالَ ٱلْحَوَارِيُّونَ يَٰعِيسَى ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ هَلْ يَسْتَطِيعُ رَبُّكَ أَن يُنزِلَ عَلَيْنَا مَآئِدَةًۭ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ

Issa, son of Maryam, said: "O God, our Guardian! Send down to us a table from the sky, that it be for us a festival, for the first of us as for the last, and a sign from You;

قَالَ عِيسَى ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ ٱللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَآ أَنزِلْ عَلَيْنَا مَآئِدَةًۭ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ تَكُونُ لَنَا عِيدًۭا لِّأَوَّلِنَا وَءَاخِرِنَا وَءَايَةًۭ مِّنكَ

and provide for us;

وَٱرْزُقْنَا

And when God will say: "O Issa, son of Maryam! Was it you who said to mankind: Take me, and my mother, as two deities besides God?"

وَإِذْ قَالَ ٱللَّهُ يَٰعِيسَى ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ ءَأَنتَ قُلْتَ لِلنَّاسِ ٱتَّخِذُونِى وَأُمِّىَ إِلَٰهَيْنِ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ

He will say: "Glory be to You! It was not for me to say what is not my right.

قَالَ سُبْحَٰنَكَ مَا يَكُونُ لِىٓ أَنْ أَقُولَ مَا لَيْسَ لِى بِحَقٍّ

If I had said it, You would have known it.

إِن كُنتُ قُلْتُهُۥ فَقَدْ عَلِمْتَهُۥ

You know what is in my Self, and I do not know what is in Your Self.

تَعْلَمُ مَا فِى نَفْسِى وَلَآ أَعْلَمُ مَا فِى نَفْسِكَ

I told them only what You ordered me: Obey God, my Guardian and your Guardian;

مَا قُلْتُ لَهُمْ إِلَّا مَآ أَمَرْتَنِى بِهِۦٓ أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ رَبِّى وَرَبَّكُمْ

and I was a witness over them, as long as I was among them;

وَكُنتُ عَلَيْهِمْ شَهِيدًۭا مَّا دُمْتُ فِيهِمْ

then, when You kept me faithfully, it was You who were the Observer over them.

فَلَمَّا تَوَفَّيْتَنِى كُنتَ أَنتَ ٱلرَّقِيبَ عَلَيْهِمْ

If You punish them, they are Your obedient ones;

إِن تُعَذِّبْهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ عِبَادُكَ

God will say: "This is the day when veracity will benefit the veracious.

قَالَ ٱللَّهُ هَٰذَا يَوْمُ يَنفَعُ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ صِدْقُهُمْ

They have gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide eternally, forever."

لَهُمْ جَنَّٰتٌۭ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًۭا

God is satisfied with them, and they are satisfied with Him.

رَّضِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا۟ عَنْهُ

To God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and of what is in them.

لِلَّهِ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا فِيهِنَّ
