Al-Qamar

The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split.

ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ

And if they see a sign, they turn away and say: "A persistent illusion."

وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةًۭ يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌۭ مُّسْتَمِرٌّۭ

Yet every matter finds its stable place.

وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍۢ مُّسْتَقِرٌّۭ

There had indeed come to them, among the pieces of information, that which should deter,

وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ

but of what avail are warnings?

فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ

So turn your back on them.

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ

Those who disown will say: "This is a difficult day."

يَقُولُ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌۭ

Before them, the people of Nuh denied: they denied Our obedient one and said, "He is deranged," and he was harshly chided.

كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍۢ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجْنُونٌۭ وَٱزْدُجِرَ

So he called upon his Guardian: "I am overcome, so grant help."

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌۭ فَٱنتَصِرْ

So We opened the gates of heaven with pouring water,

فَفَتَحْنَآ أَبْوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٍۢ مُّنْهَمِرٍۢ

and made the earth gush forth in springs, so the waters met according to a matter already decreed.

وَفَجَّرْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ عُيُونًۭا فَٱلْتَقَى ٱلْمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍۢ قَدْ قُدِرَ

And We carried him upon a vessel made of planks and joining nails.

وَحَمَلْنَٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَٰحٍۢ وَدُسُرٍۢ

It sailed under Our eyes, a recompense for the one who had been disowned.

تَجْرِى بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَآءًۭ لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ

We have indeed left it as a sign: is there then anyone to remember?

وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَٰهَآ ءَايَةًۭ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ

So how were My punishment and My warnings?

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

We have indeed made the Recitation easy for remembrance: is there then anyone to remember?

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ

The Aad denied. So how were My punishment and My warnings?

كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌۭ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

We sent upon them an icy wind, on a day of persistent misfortune, tearing men away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees.

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًۭا صَرْصَرًۭا فِى يَوْمِ نَحْسٍۢ مُّسْتَمِرٍّۢ تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍۢ مُّنقَعِرٍۢ

So how were My punishment and My warnings?

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

We have indeed made the Recitation easy for remembrance: is there then anyone to remember?

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ

The Thamud denied the warnings.

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ

They said: "Shall we follow a single human from among us? We would then surely be in error and madness. Has the Reminder been cast upon him, out of all of us? Rather, he is a boastful liar."

فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَبَشَرًۭا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدًۭا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًۭا لَّفِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ وَسُعُرٍ أَءُلْقِىَ ٱلذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌۭ

They will know tomorrow who is the boastful liar.

سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًۭا مَّنِ ٱلْكَذَّابُ ٱلْأَشِرُ

We are sending the she-camel as a trial for them, so watch them and be constant.

إِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةًۭ لَّهُمْ فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ وَٱصْطَبِرْ

each turn to drink is attended.

كُلُّ شِرْبٍۢ مُّحْتَضَرٌۭ

So they called their companion, and he seized her and hamstrung her.

فَنَادَوْا۟ صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ

So how were My punishment and My warnings?

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

We sent upon them a single cry, and they became like the dry twigs of a pen-builder.

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ

We have indeed made the Recitation easy for remembrance: is there then anyone to remember?

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ

The people of Lut denied the warnings.

كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ

We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the clan of Lut, whom We saved before dawn,

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍۢ نَّجَّيْنَٰهُم بِسَحَرٍۢ

Thus do We recompense whoever is grateful.

كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَن شَكَرَ

He had indeed warned them of Our Strike, but they contended about the warnings.

وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ

They sought to turn him away from his guests, so We obliterated their eyes: "Taste, then, My punishment and My warnings."

وَلَقَدْ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِۦ فَطَمَسْنَآ أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

A stable punishment indeed overtook them at early morning,

وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌۭ مُّسْتَقِرٌّۭ

"Taste, then, My punishment and My warnings."

فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

We have indeed made the Recitation easy for remembrance: is there then anyone to remember?

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ

The warnings had indeed come to Fir'awn's clan.

وَلَقَدْ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ

They denied all Our signs, so We seized them with the seizing of an All-Powerful, Capable One.

كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَٰهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍۢ مُّقْتَدِرٍ

Are those of you who disown better than those, or do you have a quittance in the Formularies?

أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌۭ مِّنْ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٌۭ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ

Or do they say: "We are a united force, victorious"?

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌۭ مُّنتَصِرٌۭ

The force will be defeated, and they will turn their backs.

سَيُهْزَمُ ٱلْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ

and the Hour is more terrible and more bitter.

وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ

The severed are indeed in error and madness, the Day they are dragged into the Fire upon their faces: "Taste the touch of Saqar."

إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ وَسُعُرٍۢ يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ

We have created every thing according to a measure.

إِنَّا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَٰهُ بِقَدَرٍۢ

And Our command is but one, like the blink of an eye.

وَمَآ أَمْرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٌۭ كَلَمْحٍۭ بِٱلْبَصَرِ

We have indeed annihilated those of your sort: is there then anyone to remember?

وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ

And everything they did is in the Formularies.

وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍۢ فَعَلُوهُ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ

And everything, small or great, is inscribed.

وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍۢ وَكَبِيرٍۢ مُّسْتَطَرٌ

Those who guard themselves are indeed in gardens and by a river, in a seat of veracity, near a Sovereign, Capable.

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍۢ وَنَهَرٍۢ فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍۢ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ
