Al-Munafiqun
The Hypocrites
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent.
When the hypocrites come to you, they say: "We testify that you are surely the messenger of God."
إِذَا جَآءَكَ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقُونَ قَالُوا۟ نَشْهَدُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ
And God knows that you are surely His messenger.
وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُهُۥ
And God testifies that the hypocrites are surely liars.
وَٱللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ لَكَٰذِبُونَ
They have taken their oaths as a shield and barred from the way of God.
ٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟ أَيْمَٰنَهُمْ جُنَّةًۭ فَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ
How evil is what they used to do!
إِنَّهُمْ سَآءَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
That is because they believed, then disowned; so their cores were stamped, and they do not understand.
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ ءَامَنُوا۟ ثُمَّ كَفَرُوا۟ فَطُبِعَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ
And when you see them, their silhouettes dazzle you,
وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَهُمْ تُعْجِبُكَ أَجْسَامُهُمْ
and if they say something, you listen to their saying; they are like propped-up pieces of wood.
وَإِن يَقُولُوا۟ تَسْمَعْ لِقَوْلِهِمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ خُشُبٌۭ مُّسَنَّدَةٌۭ
They think every cry is against them.
يَحْسِبُونَ كُلَّ صَيْحَةٍ عَلَيْهِمْ
They are the enemy.
هُمُ ٱلْعَدُوُّ
So beware of them.
فَٱحْذَرْهُمْ
May God combat them!
قَٰتَلَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ
How then are they turned away?
أَنَّىٰ يُؤْفَكُونَ
And when it is said to them: "Come, that the messenger of God may ask forgiveness for you," they turn their heads aside, and you see them holding back, growing proud.
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا۟ يَسْتَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ لَوَوْاْ رُءُوسَهُمْ وَرَأَيْتَهُمْ يَصُدُّونَ وَهُم مُّسْتَكْبِرُونَ
It is the same for them whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them.
سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ أَسْتَغْفَرْتَ لَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ
God will never forgive them.
لَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمْ
God indeed does not guide the people of the oversteppers.
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ
They are the ones who say: "Do not spend on those who are with the messenger of God until they disperse."
هُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ لَا تُنفِقُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَنْ عِندَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ حَتَّىٰ يَنفَضُّوا۟
But to God belong the treasuries of the heavens and the earth,
وَلِلَّهِ خَزَآئِنُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ
but the hypocrites do not understand.
وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ
They say: "If we return to the Capital, the mightier will surely expel the more humiliated therefrom."
يَقُولُونَ لَئِن رَّجَعْنَآ إِلَى ٱلْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ ٱلْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا ٱلْأَذَلَّ
But to God belongs might, and to His messenger, and to the believers,
وَلِلَّهِ ٱلْعِزَّةُ وَلِرَسُولِهِۦ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
but the hypocrites do not know.
وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
O you who have believed! Let not your goods or your children distract you from the remembrance of God.
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تُلْهِكُمْ أَمْوَٰلُكُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَٰدُكُمْ عَن ذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ
And whoever does that — those are the losers.
وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ
And spend from what We have provided you before death comes to one of you, and he says: "My Guardian, if only You would adjourn me until a near term, that I might give in charity and be among those who are sound."
وَأَنفِقُوا۟ مِن مَّا رَزَقْنَٰكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِىَ أَحَدَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ فَيَقُولَ رَبِّ لَوْلَآ أَخَّرْتَنِىٓ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍۢ قَرِيبٍۢ فَأَصَّدَّقَ وَأَكُن مِّنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ
But God will never adjourn a Self when its term has come.
وَلَن يُؤَخِّرَ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِذَا جَآءَ أَجَلُهَا
And God is Intimately Acquainted with what you do.
وَٱللَّهُ خَبِيرٌۢ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ
