Al-Muzzammil
The Wrapped One
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent.
O you who are wrapped up! Stand the night, except a little — half of it, or subtract from it a little, or add to it — and recite the Recitation with measured, distinct recitation.
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُزَّمِّلُ قُمِ ٱلَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا نِّصْفَهُۥٓ أَوِ ٱنقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ تَرْتِيلًا
Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy saying.
إِنَّا سَنُلْقِى عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًۭا ثَقِيلًا
The rising of the night is firmer in impact and more upright in saying.
إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ ٱلَّيْلِ هِىَ أَشَدُّ وَطْـًۭٔا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا
You have during the day a long swim.
إِنَّ لَكَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ سَبْحًۭا طَوِيلًۭا
And remember the name of your Guardian and give yourself over to Him, fully.
وَٱذْكُرِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًۭا
Guardian of the east and the west;
رَّبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ
there is no deity but Him;
لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ
so take Him as a trustee.
فَٱتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًۭا
And be patient with what they say
وَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ
and avoid them with gracious avoidance.
وَٱهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًۭا جَمِيلًۭا
And leave Me with the deniers, those in well-being, and grant them a little respite.
وَذَرْنِى وَٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ أُو۟لِى ٱلنَّعْمَةِ وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلِيلًا
Indeed, with Us are shackles and a Blaze, and food that chokes, and a painful punishment — on the Day the earth and the mountains will quake, and the mountains will become a heap of poured-out sand.
إِنَّ لَدَيْنَآ أَنكَالًۭا وَجَحِيمًۭا وَطَعَامًۭا ذَا غُصَّةٍۢ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمًۭا يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًۭا مَّهِيلًا
We have sent to you a messenger as a witness upon you, just as We sent to Fir'awn a messenger. But Fir'awn disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure.
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولًۭا شَٰهِدًا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ رَسُولًۭا فَعَصَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ ٱلرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذْنَٰهُ أَخْذًۭا وَبِيلًۭا
Then how, if you disown, will you guard yourselves against a Day that will turn children gray-haired, a Day when the sky itself will be rent asunder?
فَكَيْفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِن كَفَرْتُمْ يَوْمًۭا يَجْعَلُ ٱلْوِلْدَٰنَ شِيبًا ٱلسَّمَآءُ مُنفَطِرٌۢ بِهِۦ
His promise is always a thing done.
كَانَ وَعْدُهُۥ مَفْعُولًا
This is a reminder.
إِنَّ هَٰذِهِۦ تَذْكِرَةٌۭ
So whoever wants may take, toward his Guardian, a way.
فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلًا
Your Guardian knows that you stand a little less than two-thirds of the night, and of half of it, and of a third of it, as do a group of those with you.
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدْنَىٰ مِن ثُلُثَىِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَنِصْفِهِۦ وَثُلُثِهِۦ وَطَآئِفَةٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مَعَكَ
And God determines the night and the day.
وَٱللَّهُ يُقَدِّرُ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ
He knows that you will never enumerate it, so He has turned toward you with clemency.
عَلِمَ أَن لَّن تُحْصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ
So read what is feasible of the Recitation.
فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ
He knows that there will be among you those who are sick, and others traveling through the land seeking of the favor of God, and others fighting in the way of God.
عَلِمَ أَن سَيَكُونُ مِنكُم مَّرْضَىٰ وَءَاخَرُونَ يَضْرِبُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يَبْتَغُونَ مِن فَضْلِ ٱللَّهِ وَءَاخَرُونَ يُقَٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ
So read what is feasible from it,
فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ
and maintain the Contact, and give pure liberality,
وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ
and make God a beautiful loan.
وَأَقْرِضُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًۭا
And whatever good you advance for yourselves, you will find it with God, better and more immense in reward.
وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوا۟ لِأَنفُسِكُم مِّنْ خَيْرٍۢ تَجِدُوهُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُوَ خَيْرًۭا وَأَعْظَمَ أَجْرًۭا
And ask God's forgiveness;
وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ
God is indeed Most-Forgiving, Benevolent.
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۢ
