Al-Hadid
The Iron and the Balance
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. All that is in the heavens and the earth has glorified God.
بِسْمِ اِ۬للَّهِ اِ۬لرَّحْمَٰنِ اِ۬لرَّحِيمِ سَبَّحَ لِلهِ مَا فِے اِ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضِۖ
And He is the All-Powerful, the Wise.
وَهُوَ اَ۬لْعَزِيزُ اُ۬لْحَكِيمُۖ
To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He gives life and causes death.
لَهُۥ مُلْكُ اُ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضِ يُحْيِۦ وَيُمِيتُۖ
And He is capable of all things.
وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَےْءٖ قَدِيرٌۖ
He is the First and the Last, the Apparent and the Hidden.
هُوَ اَ۬لَاوَّلُ وَالَاخِرُ وَالظَّٰهِرُ وَالْبَاطِنُۖ
And He is All-Knowing of all things.
وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَےْءٍ عَلِيمٌۖ
It is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then established Himself upon the Edifice.
هُوَ اَ۬لذِے خَلَقَ اَ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضَ فِے سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٖ ثُمَّ اَ۪سْتَو۪ىٰ عَلَى اَ۬لْعَرْشِۖ
He knows what penetrates into the earth and what comes out of it, what descends from the sky and what ascends into it.
يَعْلَمُ مَا يَلِجُ فِے اِ۬لَارْضِ وَمَا يَخْرُجُ مِنْهَا وَمَا يَنزِلُ مِنَ اَ۬لسَّمَآءِ وَمَا يَعْرُجُ فِيهَاۖ
And He is with you wherever you are.
وَهُوَ مَعَكُمُۥٓ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْۖ
And God is All-Seeing of what you do.
وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٞۖ
To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth.
لَّهُۥ مُلْكُ اُ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضِۖ
And it is to God that all matters return.
وَإِلَى اَ۬للَّهِ تُرْجَعُ اُ۬لُامُورُۖ
He makes the night penetrate into the day, and makes the day penetrate into the night.
يُولِجُ اُ۬ليْلَ فِے اِ۬لنَّه۪ارِ وَيُولِجُ اُ۬لنَّهَارَ فِے اِ۬ليْلِۖ
And He is All-Knowing of what the chests contain.
وَهُوَ عَلِيمُۢ بِذَاتِ اِ۬لصُّدُورِۖ
Believe in God and His messenger, and spend from that which He has made you trustees of.
۞ ءَامِنُواْ بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَأَنفِقُواْ مِمَّا جَعَلَكُم مُّسْتَخْلَفِينَ فِيهِۖ
Those among you who have believed and spent will have a great reward.
فَالذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مِنكُمْ وَأَنفَقُواْ لَهُمُۥٓ أَجْرٞ كَبِيرٞۖ
What is with you that you do not believe in God, while the messenger invites you to believe in your Guardian, and He has already taken your solemn engagement, if you are believers?
وَمَا لَكُمْ لَا تُومِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالرَّسُولُ يَدْعُوكُمْ لِتُومِنُواْ بِرَبِّكُمْ وَقَدَ اَخَذَ مِيثَٰقَكُمُۥٓ إِن كُنتُم مُّومِنِينَۖ
It is He who sends down upon His obedient one clear signs, to bring you out of the darknesses into the light.
هُوَ اَ۬لذِے يُنَزِّلُ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِهِۦٓ ءَايَٰتِۢ بَيِّنَٰتٖ لِّيُخْرِجَكُم مِّنَ اَ۬لظُّلُمَٰتِ إِلَى اَ۬لنُّورِۖ
And God is surely, toward you, full of kindness, Benevolent.
وَإِنَّ اَ۬للَّهَ بِكُمْ لَرَءُوفٞ رَّحِيمٞۖ
And what is with you that you do not spend in the way of God, while to God belongs the inheritance of the heavens and the earth?
وَمَا لَكُمُۥٓ أَلَّا تُنفِقُواْ فِے سَبِيلِ اِ۬للَّهِ وَلِلهِ مِيرَٰثُ اُ۬لسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالَارْضِۖ
Not equal among you is the one who spent and fought before the opening:
لَا يَسْتَوِے مِنكُم مَّنَ اَنفَقَ مِن قَبْلِ اِ۬لْفَتْحِ وَقَٰتَلَۖ
those are more immense in degree than those who spent and fought afterward.
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَعْظَمُ دَرَجَةٗ مِّنَ اَ۬لذِينَ أَنفَقُواْ مِنۢ بَعْدُ وَقَٰتَلُواْۖ
And to all, God has promised the most beautiful.
وَكُلّاٗ وَعَدَ اَ۬للَّهُ اُ۬لْحُسْن۪ىٰۖ
And God is Intimately Acquainted with what you do.
وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٞۖ
Who, then, will make God a beautiful loan, which He will double for him, and he will have a generous reward?
مَّن ذَا اَ۬لذِے يُقْرِضُ اُ۬للَّهَ قَرْضاً حَسَناٗ فَيُضَٰعِفُهُۥ لَهُۥ وَلَهُۥٓ أَجْرٞ كَرِيمٞۖ
The Day you will see the believing men and believing women, their light hurrying before them and on their right.
يَوْمَ تَرَى اَ۬لْمُومِنِينَ وَالْمُومِنَٰتِ يَسْع۪ىٰ نُورُهُم بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَبِأَيْمَٰنِهِمۖ
Your good tidings today: gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein you will abide eternally.
بُشْر۪يٰكُمُ اُ۬لْيَوْمَ جَنَّٰتٞ تَجْرِے مِن تَحْتِهَا اَ۬لَانْهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَاۖ
That is the immense triumph.
ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ اَ۬لْفَوْزُ اُ۬لْعَظِيمُۖ
The Day the hypocrite men and hypocrite women will say to those who believed: "Wait for us that we may borrow from your light." It will be said: "Return behind you and seek a light."
يَوْمَ يَقُولُ اُ۬لْمُنَٰفِقُونَ وَالْمُنَٰفِقَٰتُ لِلذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ اُ۟نظُرُونَا نَقْتَبِسْ مِن نُّورِكُمْ قِيلَ اَ۪رْجِعُواْ وَرَآءَكُمْ فَالْتَمِسُواْ نُوراٗۖ
Then a rampart will be erected between them, having a gate, its interior containing benevolence, and its uncovered side, before it, containing punishment.
فَضُرِبَ بَيْنَهُم بِسُورٖ لَّهُۥ بَابُۢ بَاطِنُهُۥ فِيهِ اِ۬لرَّحْمَةُ وَظَٰهِرُهُۥ مِن قِبَلِهِ اِ۬لْعَذَابُۖ
They will call to them: "Were we not with you?"
يُنَادُونَهُمُۥٓ أَلَمْ نَكُن مَّعَكُمْۖ
They will say: "Yes, but you put yourselves to trial, and bided your time, and doubted, and vain wishes deluded you until the command of God came, and the great deluder deluded you concerning God."
قَالُواْ بَل۪ىٰ وَلَٰكِنَّكُمْ فَتَنتُمُۥٓ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَتَرَبَّصْتُمْ وَارْتَبْتُمْ وَغَرَّتْكُمُ اُ۬لَامَانِيُّ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَ امْرُ اُ۬للَّهِ وَغَرَّكُم بِاللَّهِ اِ۬لْغَرُورُۖ
So today no ransom will be taken from you, nor from those who disowned. Your resort is the Fire; it is your nearest guarantor.
فَالْيَوْمَ لَا يُوخَذُ مِنكُمْ فِدْيَةٞ وَلَا مِنَ اَ۬لذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مَأْو۪يٰكُمُ اُ۬لنَّارُ هِيَ مَوْل۪يٰكُمْۖ
And what an evil destination!
وَبِيسَ اَ۬لْمَصِيرُۖ
Has the time not come for those who believe that their cores should become humble at the remembrance of God and what has descended of truth?
۞ أَلَمْ يَانِ لِلذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ أَن تَخْشَعَ قُلُوبُهُمْ لِذِكْرِ اِ۬للَّهِ وَمَا نَزَلَ مِنَ اَ۬لْحَقِّۖ
And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and the span grew long for them, so their cores hardened.
وَلَا يَكُونُواْ كَالذِينَ أُوتُواْ اُ۬لْكِتَٰبَ مِن قَبْلُ فَطَالَ عَلَيْهِمُ اُ۬لَامَدُ فَقَسَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْۖ
And many of them are oversteppers.
وَكَثِيرٞ مِّنْهُمْ فَٰسِقُونَۖ
Know that God brings the earth back to life after its death.
اَ۪عْلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّ اَ۬للَّهَ يُحْيِ اِ۬لَارْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَاۖ
We have already made the signs clear to you, perhaps you will reason.
قَدْ بَيَّنَّا لَكُمُ اُ۬لَايَٰتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَۖ
Indeed, the men and women who give in charity, and who make God a beautiful loan — it will be doubled for them, and they will have a generous reward.
إِنَّ اَ۬لْمُصَّدِّقِينَ وَالْمُصَّدِّقَٰتِ وَأَقْرَضُواْ اُ۬للَّهَ قَرْضاً حَسَناٗ يُضَٰعَفُ لَهُمْ وَلَهُمُۥٓ أَجْرٞ كَرِيمٞۖ
And those who believe in God and His messengers — those are the veracious.
وَالذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ بِاللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِۦٓ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ اُ۬لصِّدِّيقُونَۖ
And the witnesses, with their Guardian.
وَالشُّهَدَآءُ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْۖ
They will have their reward and their light.
لَهُمُۥٓ أَجْرُهُمْ وَنُورُهُمْۖ
And those who have disowned and denied Our signs — those are the companions of the Blaze.
وَالذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَكَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ اُ۬لْجَحِيمِۖ
Know that the present life is but play, distraction, adornment, mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in accumulation of goods and children — like the example of a saving rain whose vegetation dazzles the sowers, then it dries up, and you see it turn yellow, then it becomes debris.
اِ۪عْلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّمَا اَ۬لْحَيَوٰةُ اُ۬لدُّنْي۪ا لَعِبٞ وَلَهْوٞ وَزِينَةٞ وَتَفَاخُرُۢ بَيْنَكُمْ وَتَكَاثُرٞ فِے اِ۬لَامْوَٰلِ وَالَاوْلَٰدِ كَمَثَلِ غَيْثٍ اَعْجَبَ اَ۬لْكُفَّارَ نَبَاتُهُۥ ثُمَّ يَهِيجُ فَتَر۪يٰهُ مُصْفَرّاٗ ثُمَّ يَكُونُ حُطَٰماٗۖ
And in the last life: severe punishment, and forgiveness from God and good pleasure.
وَفِے اِ۬لَاخِرَةِ عَذَابٞ شَدِيدٞ وَمَغْفِرَةٞ مِّنَ اَ۬للَّهِ وَرِضْوَٰنٞۖ
And the present life is nothing but a deluding enjoyment.
وَمَا اَ۬لْحَيَوٰةُ اُ۬لدُّنْي۪آ إِلَّا مَتَٰعُ اُ۬لْغُرُورِۖ
Race toward forgiveness from your Guardian and a garden whose extent is like the extent of the heaven and the earth, prepared for those who believe in God and His messengers.
سَابِقُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ مَغْفِرَةٖ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَجَنَّةٍ عَرْضُهَا كَعَرْضِ اِ۬لسَّمَآءِ وَالَارْضِ أُعِدَّتْ لِلذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ بِاللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِۦۖ
That is the favor of God, which He grants to whom He wills.
ذَٰلِكَ فَضْلُ اُ۬للَّهِ يُوتِيهِ مَنْ يَّشَآءُۖ
And God holds the immense favor.
وَاللَّهُ ذُو اُ۬لْفَضْلِ اِ۬لْعَظِيمِۖ
No calamity strikes the earth or yourselves except that it is in a register even before We acquit it.
۞ مَآ أَصَابَ مِن مُّصِيبَةٖ فِے اِ۬لَارْضِ وَلَا فِےٓ أَنفُسِكُمُۥٓ إِلَّا فِے كِتَٰبٖ مِّن قَبْلِ أَن نَّبْرَأَهَآۖ
That is indeed easy for God — so that you do not lament for what you have missed, nor rejoice in what has come to you.
إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى اَ۬للَّهِ يَسِيرٞ لِّكَيْلَا تَاسَوْاْ عَلَىٰ مَا فَاتَكُمْ وَلَا تَفْرَحُواْ بِمَآ ءَات۪يٰكُمْۖ
And God does not love any arrogant boaster.
وَاللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ مُخْتَالٖ فَخُورٍۖ
Those who are stingy and enjoin stinginess upon men.
اِ۬لذِينَ يَبْخَلُونَ وَيَامُرُونَ اَ۬لنَّاسَ بِالْبُخْلِۖ
And whoever turns his back — indeed God is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy.
وَمَنْ يَّتَوَلَّ فَإِنَّ اَ۬للَّهَ اَ۬لْغَنِيُّ اُ۬لْحَمِيدُۖ
We have certainly sent Our messengers with clear proofs and sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that men may maintain equity.
لَقَدَ اَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا بِالْبَيِّنَٰتِ وَأَنزَلْنَا مَعَهُمُ اُ۬لْكِتَٰبَ وَالْمِيزَانَ لِيَقُومَ اَ۬لنَّاسُ بِالْقِسْطِۖ
And We sent down iron, in which is severe rigor and benefits for mankind.
وَأَنزَلْنَا اَ۬لْحَدِيدَ فِيهِ بَأْسٞ شَدِيدٞ وَمَنَٰفِعُ لِلنَّاسِۖ
And so that God may distinguish who helps Him and His messengers, even though He escapes his senses.
وَلِيَعْلَمَ اَ۬للَّهُ مَنْ يَّنصُرُهُۥ وَرُسُلَهُۥ بِالْغَيْبِۖ
God is indeed the Strong, the All-Powerful.
إِنَّ اَ۬للَّهَ قَوِيٌّ عَزِيزٞۖ
And We indeed sent Nuh and Ibrahim, and placed among their descendants the charge of informing and the Scripture.
وَلَقَدَ اَرْسَلْنَا نُوحاٗ وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِے ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا اَ۬لنُّبُوٓءَةَ وَالْكِتَٰبَۖ
Some of them let themselves be guided,
فَمِنْهُم مُّهْتَدٖۖ
and many of them are oversteppers.
وَكَثِيرٞ مِّنْهُمْ فَٰسِقُونَۖ
Then We caused Our messengers to follow in their footsteps, and We caused Issa son of Maryam to follow, and We gave him the Injil.
ثُمَّ قَفَّيْنَا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثٰ۪رِهِم بِرُسُلِنَا وَقَفَّيْنَا بِعِيسَى اَ۪بْنِ مَرْيَمَ وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُ اُ۬لِانجِيلَۖ
And We placed in the cores of those who followed him kindness and benevolence; as for monasticism, it is they who invented it — We did not prescribe it for them — except in seeking the good pleasure of God.
وَجَعَلْنَا فِے قُلُوبِ اِ۬لذِينَ اَ۪تَّبَعُوهُ رَأْفَةٗ وَرَحْمَةٗ وَرَهْبَانِيَّةً اِ۪بْتَدَعُوهَا مَا كَتَبْنَٰهَا عَلَيْهِمُۥٓ إِلَّا اَ۪بْتِغَآءَ رِضْوَٰنِ اِ۬للَّهِۖ
But they were not watchful over it as they should have been.
فَمَا رَعَوْهَا حَقَّ رِعَايَتِهَاۖ
So We gave those among them who believed their reward.
فَـَٔاتَيْنَا اَ۬لذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مِنْهُمُۥٓ أَجْرَهُمْۖ
And many of them are oversteppers.
وَكَثِيرٞ مِّنْهُمْ فَٰسِقُونَۖ
O you who have believed! Guard yourselves toward God and believe in His messenger; He will give you a double portion of His benevolence and make for you a light by which you will walk, and He will forgive you.
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا اَ۬لذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ اُ۪تَّقُواْ اُ۬للَّهَ وَءَامِنُواْ بِرَسُولِهِۦ يُوتِكُمْ كِفْلَيْنِ مِن رَّحْمَتِهِۦ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ نُوراٗ تَمْشُونَ بِهِۦ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْۖ
And God is Most-Forgiving, Benevolent — so that the People of the Scripture may know that they have no power over anything of the favor of God, and that the favor is in the hand of God, which He gives to whom He wills.
وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٞ لِّيَ۬لَّا يَعْلَمَ أَهْلُ اُ۬لْكِتَٰبِ أَلَّا يَقْدِرُونَ عَلَىٰ شَےْءٖ مِّن فَضْلِ اِ۬للَّهِ وَأَنَّ اَ۬لْفَضْلَ بِيَدِ اِ۬للَّهِ يُوتِيهِ مَنْ يَّشَآءُۖ
And God holds the immense favor.
وَاللَّهُ ذُو اُ۬لْفَضْلِ اِ۬لْعَظِيمِۖ
