Reading the Qur'an through the Qur'an
Here, the Qur'an is read through itself. Every sura was read sentence by sentence, then verse by verse, and every word set beside its other uses in the text. This reading gave rise to three series of pages: ways of reading, rules the text follows, and a page for each sura.

Where to begin
Confirmed principleReading a sura with its neighboursA sura is not read on its own: it answers the one before it and prepares the one after it. Neighbouring suras answer each other in pairs or in blocks, with the same words, the same images, or images turned around.Read Established ruleProof by subtractionA word that occurs only once can be defined without any point of comparison, when a series of negations surrounds it: each negation removes a possible meaning, and what remains after all the subtractions is its meaning.Read Sura 112The One Without EqualFour short sentences that say who God is, above all by what He is not: the One, without origin, without offspring, without counterpart.Read
The method
- Read each sura sentence by sentence, then verse by verse.
- Set each word beside its other uses in the Qur'an.
- Keep what recurs: a way of reading, a rule of the text.
- Check it on the whole Qur'an before drawing the translation from it.
