A Good Word
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent.
Alif. Lam. Ra.
الر
A Scripture that We have sent down to you, so that you may bring mankind out of the darknesses into the light, with the permission of their Guardian, to the path of the All-Powerful, the Praiseworthy.
كتب انزلنه اليك لتخرج الناس من الظلمت الي النور باذن ربهم الي صرط العزيز الحميد
God, to whom belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth.
الله الذي له ما في السموت وما في الارض
And woe to those who disown, from a severe punishment —
وويل للكفرين من عذاب شديد
those who love the present life more than the last life, who bar from God's way and seek to make it crooked: those are the ones in far error.
الذين يستحبون الحيوه الدنيا علي الاخره ويصدون عن سبيل الله ويبغونها عوجا اوليك في ضلل بعيد
We have sent no messenger except in the tongue of his people, so that he might make clear to them;
وما ارسلنا من رسول الا بلسان قومه ليبين لهم
God then leads astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills:
فيضل الله من يشا ويهدي من يشا
and He is the All-Powerful, the Wise.
وهو العزيز الحكيم
We have indeed sent Moussa with Our signs: "Bring your people out of the darknesses into the light, and remind them of the days of God."
ولقد ارسلنا موسي بايتنا ان اخرج قومك من الظلمت الي النور وذكرهم باييم الله
There are surely in that signs for every very patient, very grateful one.
ان في ذلك لايت لكل صبار شكور
And when Moussa said to his people: "Remember God's blessing upon you, when He saved you from the clan of Fir'awn, who inflicted upon you the worst of punishments, slaughtering your sons and violating the modesty of your women:
واذ قال موسي لقومه اذكروا نعمه الله عليكم اذ انجيكم من ال فرعون يسومونكم سو العذاب ويذبحون ابناكم ويستحيون نساكم
and there was in that an immense testing from your Guardian."
وفي ذلكم بلا من ربكم عظيم
And when your Guardian made known: "If you are grateful, I shall surely increase you; but if you disown, My punishment is indeed severe."
واذ تاذن ربكم لين شكرتم لازيدنكم ولين كفرتم ان عذابي لشديد
And Moussa said: "If you disown, you and all who are on the earth, God is surely Self-Sufficient, He is Praiseworthy."
وقال موسي ان تكفروا انتم ومن في الارض جميعا فان الله لغني حميد
Has there not reached you the information concerning those before you: the people of Nuh, the Aad, the Thamud, and those who came after them,
الم ياتكم نبوا الذين من قبلكم قوم نوح وعاد وثمود والذين من بعدهم
whom only God knows?
لا يعلمهم الا الله
Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they put their hands to their mouths and said: "We disown that with which you have been sent, and we are surely in a troubling doubt about what you call us to."
جاتهم رسلهم بالبينت فردوا ايديهم في افوههم وقالوا انا كفرنا بما ارسلتم به وانا لفي شك مما تدعوننا اليه مريب
Their messengers said: "Is there doubt about God, the Originator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you so as to forgive you some of your offenses and adjourn you until an appointed term."
قالت رسلهم افي الله شك فاطر السموت والارض يدعوكم ليغفر لكم من ذنوبكم ويوخركم الي اجل مسمي
They said: "You are only humans like us; you want to bar us from what our ancestors obeyed. So bring us a manifest authority."
قالوا ان انتم الا بشر مثلنا تريدون ان تصدونا عما كان يعبد اباونا فاتونا بسلطن مبين
Their messengers said to them: "We are only humans like you, but God graces whom He wills among His obedient ones.
قالت لهم رسلهم ان نحن الا بشر مثلكم ولكن الله يمن علي من يشا من عباده
It is not for us to bring you an authority, except with God's permission.
وما كان لنا ان ناتيكم بسلطن الا باذن الله
And it is upon God that the believers should rely."
وعلي الله فليتوكل المومنون
And why should we not rely upon God, when He has guided us on our ways?
وما لنا الا نتوكل علي الله وقد هدينا سبلنا
We shall surely be patient in the face of the trouble you cause us;
ولنصبرن علي ما اذيتمونا
so let those who rely rely upon God."
وعلي الله فليتوكل المتوكلون
And those who disown said to their messengers: "We shall surely expel you from our land, or you will return to our doctrine!"
وقال الذين كفروا لرسلهم لنخرجنكم من ارضنا او لتعودن في ملتنا
Their Guardian then revealed to them: "We shall surely annihilate the wrongdoers, and We shall surely make you dwell in this land after them.
فاوحي اليهم ربهم لنهلكن الظلمين ولنسكننكم الارض من بعدهم
That is for whoever fears standing before Me, and fears My threat."
ذلك لمن خاف مقامي وخاف وعيد
And they sought the opening,
واستفتحوا
and every obstinate tyrant failed; behind him, Jahannam, and he will be given to drink there a purulent water, which he will sip little by little, hardly able to swallow it; death will come to him from every side without his dying; and behind that, a harsh punishment.
وخاب كل جبار عنيد من ورايه جهنم ويسقي من ما صديد يتجرعه ولا يكاد يسيغه وياتيه الموت من كل مكان وما هو بميت ومن ورايه عذاب غليظ
The example of those who disown their Guardian:
مثل الذين كفروا بربهم
their works are like ashes that the wind whips intensely, on a stormy day: they can hold on to nothing of what they earned.
اعملهم كرماد اشتدت به الريح في يوم عاصف لا يقدرون مما كسبوا علي شي
That is the far error.
ذلك هو الضلل البعيد
Have you not seen that God created the heavens and the earth with truth?
الم تر ان الله خلق السموت والارض بالحق
If He willed, He would make you disappear and bring a new creation,
ان يشا يذهبكم ويات بخلق جديد
and that is not at all out of God's grasp.
وما ذلك علي الله بعزيز
And they will all appear before God, and the weak will say to those who grew proud: "We were indeed your followers; can you then be of any use to us against God's punishment?"
وبرزوا لله جميعا فقال الضعفوا للذين استكبروا انا كنا لكم تبعا فهل انتم مغنون عنا من عذاب الله من شي
They will say: "Had God guided us, we would certainly have guided you.
قالوا لو هدينا الله لهدينكم
It is the same to us, whether we panic or are patient: we have no escape."
سوا علينا اجزعنا ام صبرنا ما لنا من محيص
And the Diverter will say, when the matter is decided: "God indeed made you a true promise, and I made you a promise, but I failed you; I had no authority over you, except to call you, and you answered me. So do not censure me, but censure yourselves: I cannot answer your cry, nor can you answer mine. I indeed disown that you associated me with God before."
وقال الشيطن لما قضي الامر ان الله وعدكم وعد الحق ووعدتكم فاخلفتكم وما كان لي عليكم من سلطن الا ان دعوتكم فاستجبتم لي فلا تلوموني ولوموا انفسكم ما انا بمصرخكم وما انتم بمصرخي اني كفرت بما اشركتمون من قبل
The wrongdoers will indeed have a painful punishment.
ان الظلمين لهم عذاب اليم
And those who have believed and done sound deeds will be admitted into gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide eternally, with the permission of their Guardian.
وادخل الذين امنوا وعملوا الصلحت جنت تجري من تحتها الانهر خلدين فيها باذن ربهم
Their greeting, there, will be: "Peace!"
تحيتهم فيها سلم
Have you not seen how God multiplies an example? A wholesome word is like a wholesome tree, whose root is firm and whose branches are in the sky, giving its fare at every moment, with the permission of its Guardian.
الم تر كيف ضرب الله مثلا كلمه طيبه كشجره طيبه اصلها ثابت وفرعها في السما توتي اكلها كل حين باذن ربها
And God multiplies the examples for mankind, perhaps they will remember.
ويضرب الله الامثال للناس لعلهم يتذكرون
And the example of a vile word is like a vile tree, uprooted from the surface of the earth, having no stability.
ومثل كلمه خبيثه كشجره خبيثه اجتثت من فوق الارض ما لها من قرار
God makes firm those who believe by the firm saying, in the present life and in the last life,
يثبت الله الذين امنوا بالقول الثابت في الحيوه الدنيا وفي الاخره
and God leads the wrongdoers astray,
ويضل الله الظلمين
and God does what He wills.
ويفعل الله ما يشا
Have you not seen those who exchanged God's blessing for disowning, and lodged their people in the abode of ruin — Jahannam, wherein they will burn:
الم تر الي الذين بدلوا نعمت الله كفرا واحلوا قومهم دار البوار جهنم يصلونها
what a detestable haven!
وبيس القرار
And they assigned equals to God, so as to mislead from His way:
وجعلوا لله اندادا ليضلوا عن سبيله
Say: "Enjoy yourselves, for your destination is the Fire."
قل تمتعوا فان مصيركم الي النار
Tell My obedient ones who believe to maintain the Contact and to spend from what We have provided them, secretly and openly, before a day comes wherein there will be neither selling nor friendship.
قل لعبادي الذين امنوا يقيموا الصلوه وينفقوا مما رزقنهم سرا وعلانيه من قبل ان ياتي يوم لا بيع فيه ولا خلل
God is the One who created the heavens and the earth, and who sent down from the sky a water, by which He brought forth fruits as provision for you, and He subjected for you the vessel, so that it might sail upon the sea by His command,
الله الذي خلق السموت والارض وانزل من السما ما فاخرج به من الثمرت رزقا لكم وسخر لكم الفلك لتجري في البحر بامره
and He subjected for you the rivers.
وسخر لكم الانهر
And He subjected for you the sun and the moon, assiduous in their course,
وسخر لكم الشمس والقمر دايبين
and He subjected for you the night and the day.
وسخر لكم اليل والنهار
And He gave you of everything you asked of Him;
واتيكم من كل ما سالتموه
and if you numbered God's blessing, you could not enumerate it.
وان تعدوا نعمت الله لا تحصوها
The human being is surely a great wrongdoer, a great disowner.
ان الانسن لظلوم كفار
And when Ibrahim said: "My Guardian, make this land a secure place, and keep me and my sons at a distance from obeying idols.
واذ قال ابرهيم رب اجعل هذا البلد امنا واجنبني وبني ان نعبد الاصنام
My Guardian, they have indeed led astray a great number of men. Whoever follows me is then of mine, and whoever disobeys me — You are then indeed Most-Forgiving, Benevolent.
رب انهن اضللن كثيرا من الناس فمن تبعني فانه مني ومن عصاني فانك غفور رحيم
Our Guardian, I have made part of my descendants dwell in a valley without cultivation, near Your House made inviolable,
ربنا اني اسكنت من ذريتي بواد غير ذي زرع عند بيتك المحرم
Our Guardian, so that they may maintain the Contact; so make Consciences, among men, incline toward them, and provide them with fruits, perhaps they will be grateful.
ربنا ليقيموا الصلوه فاجعل افده من الناس تهوي اليهم وارزقهم من الثمرت لعلهم يشكرون
Our Guardian, You know what we keep hidden and what we disclose;
ربنا انك تعلم ما نخفي وما نعلن
and nothing is hidden from God, neither on earth nor in the sky.
وما يخفي علي الله من شي في الارض ولا في السما
Praise be to God, who has bestowed on me, despite old age, Isma'il and Ishaq!
الحمد لله الذي وهب لي علي الكبر اسمعيل واسحق
My Guardian surely hears the invocation.
ان ربي لسميع الدعا
My Guardian, make me one who maintains the Contact, and of my descendants too;
رب اجعلني مقيم الصلوه ومن ذريتي
our Guardian, and accept my invocation.
ربنا وتقبل دعا
Our Guardian, forgive me, and my two parents, and the believers, on the day the Reckoning stands up."
ربنا اغفر لي ولولدي وللمومنين يوم يقوم الحساب
And do not ever think that God is heedless of what the wrongdoers do:
ولا تحسبن الله غفلا عما يعمل الظلمون
He only adjourns them until a day when the sights will be fixed; they will rush forward, heads lifted, their gaze never given back to them, and their Consciences will be gaping.
انما يوخرهم ليوم تشخص فيه الابصر مهطعين مقنعي روسهم لا يرتد اليهم طرفهم وافدتهم هوا
And warn mankind of the day the punishment will come to them, and those who did wrong will say: "Our Guardian, adjourn us until a near term: we will answer Your call and follow the messengers."
وانذر الناس يوم ياتيهم العذاب فيقول الذين ظلموا ربنا اخرنا الي اجل قريب نجب دعوتك ونتبع الرسل
"Had you not sworn, before, that you would know no passing away?
اولم تكونوا اقسمتم من قبل ما لكم من زوال
And you dwelt in the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it became clear to you how We dealt with them, and We multiplied the examples for you."
وسكنتم في مسكن الذين ظلموا انفسهم وتبين لكم كيف فعلنا بهم وضربنا لكم الامثال
They indeed plotted their plot,
وقد مكروا مكرهم
but their plot is with God,
وعند الله مكرهم
even if their plot were of a kind to make the mountains vanish.
وان كان مكرهم لتزول منه الجبال
So do not ever think that God fails His promise to His messengers:
فلا تحسبن الله مخلف وعده رسله
God is indeed All-Powerful, possessor of vengeance.
ان الله عزيز ذو انتقام
The Day the earth will be changed into another earth, and the heavens too,
يوم تبدل الارض غير الارض والسموت
and they will appear before God, the One, the Subjugator.
وبرزوا لله الوحد القهار
And you will see the severed, that Day, bound together in fetters, their tunics of tar, and the Fire covering their faces, so that God may recompense every Self according to what it earned:
وتري المجرمين يوميذ مقرنين في الاصفاد سرابيلهم من قطران وتغشي وجوههم النار ليجزي الله كل نفس ما كسبت
God is indeed swift in reckoning.
ان الله سريع الحساب
This is a transmission for mankind, so that they may be warned by it, know that He is but a single deity, and that the possessors of intelligence may remember.
هذا بلغ للناس ولينذروا به وليعلموا انما هو اله وحد وليذكر اولوا الالبب
