Al-Waqi'a

When the Event occurs, none will be able to deny its coming.

اذا وقعت الواقعه ليس لوقعتها كاذبه

Abasing, elevating — when the earth is rocked with a violent rocking, and the mountains are crushed to powder, becoming scattered dust, and you become three categories.

خافضه رافعه اذا رجت الارض رجا وبست الجبال بسا فكانت هبا منبثا وكنتم ازوجا ثلثه

The companions of the right side — what are the companions of the right side?

فاصحب الميمنه ما اصحب الميمنه

And the companions of the left side — what are the companions of the left side?

واصحب المشمه ما اصحب المشمه

And the forerunners, the forerunners...

والسبقون السبقون

Those are the ones brought near, in the gardens of bliss.

اوليك المقربون في جنت النعيم

A multitude from the first and few from the last, on woven couches, reclining on them, face to face.

ثله من الاولين وقليل من الاخرين علي سرر موضونه متكين عليها متقبلين

Around them will circulate children made eternal, with goblets, ewers, and a cup of spring water — from which they will neither ache nor be intoxicated — and savoury fruit they opt for, and the flesh of birds that they desire.

يطوف عليهم ولدن مخلدون باكواب واباريق وكاس من معين لا يصدعون عنها ولا ينزفون وفكهه مما يتخيرون ولحم طير مما يشتهون

And companions of listening and support, like well-sheltered pearls, in recompense for what they used to do.

وحور عين كامثل اللولو المكنون جزا بما كانوا يعملون

They will hear therein no idle talk and no incitement to transgression.

لا يسمعون فيها لغوا ولا تاثيما

Only the saying: "Peace, peace."

الا قيلا سلما سلما

And the companions of the right — what are the companions of the right?

واصحب اليمين ما اصحب اليمين

Among thornless lote trees, and clustered banana trees, extended shade, flowing water, abundant savoury fruit with neither cutting off nor hindrance, and elevated couches.

في سدر مخضود وطلح منضود وظل ممدود وما مسكوب وفكهه كثيره لا مقطوعه ولا ممنوعه وفرش مرفوعه

We brought them into being in a coming-into-being, and made them inaugural beings, loving, fertile and of shared stock, for the companions of the right.

انا انشانهن انشا فجعلنهن ابكارا عربا اترابا لاصحب اليمين

A multitude from the first and a multitude from the last.

ثله من الاولين وثله من الاخرين

And the companions of the left — what are the companions of the left?

واصحب الشمال ما اصحب الشمال

In torrid wind, and boiling water, and a shade of black smoke — neither cool nor generous.

في سموم وحميم وظل من يحموم لا بارد ولا كريم

They were before that among the affluent.

انهم كانوا قبل ذلك مترفين

And they used to persist in the immense perjury.

وكانوا يصرون علي الحنث العظيم

And they used to say: "When we are dead, earth and bones, shall we really be raised? And our earliest forefathers too?"

وكانوا يقولون ايذا متنا وكنا ترابا وعظما انا لمبعوثون اواباونا الاولون

Say: "The first and the last will surely be brought together at the appointed time of a known day."

قل ان الاولين والاخرين لمجموعون الي ميقت يوم معلوم

Then surely you, O astray, denying ones, will eat from the tree of Zaqqoum, and fill your bellies with it, and drink on top of it boiling water, drinking as thirsty camels drink.

ثم انكم ايها الضالون المكذبون لاكلون من شجر من زقوم فمالون منها البطون فشربون عليه من الحميم فشربون شرب الهيم

This is their welcome on the Day of the Due.

هذا نزلهم يوم الدين

So why do you not declare it true?

فلولا تصدقون

Do you then see that which you emit? Is it you who create it, or are We the Creator?

افريتم ما تمنون انتم تخلقونه ام نحن الخلقون

It is We who have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outrun in replacing you with your likenesses and bringing you into being in that which you do not know.

نحن قدرنا بينكم الموت وما نحن بمسبوقين علي ان نبدل امثلكم وننشيكم في ما لا تعلمون

So why do you not remember?

فلولا تذكرون

Do you then see that which you till? Is it you who sow it, or are We the Sower?

افريتم ما تحرثون انتم تزرعونه ام نحن الزرعون

If We willed, We could make it debris, and you would stay lamenting: "We are surely debt-laden! Rather, we are deprived."

لو نشا لجعلنه حطما فظلتم تفكهون انا لمغرمون بل نحن محرومون

Do you then see the water that you drink? Is it you who sent it down from the clouds, or are We the Sender?

افريتم الما الذي تشربون انتم انزلتموه من المزن ام نحن المنزلون

So why are you not grateful?

فلولا تشكرون

Do you then see the fire that you kindle? Is it you who brought its tree into being, or are We the One who brings it into being?

افريتم النار التي تورون انتم انشاتم شجرتها ام نحن المنشون

We made it a reminder and a use for those who halt in the wilderness.

نحن جعلنها تذكره ومتعا للمقوين

So glorify in the name of your Guardian, the Immense.

فسبح باسم ربك العظيم

No! I swear by the positions of the stars — and surely, it is an immense swearing, if you but knew — surely, it is a noble Recitation, in a well-sheltered scripture, which none touch except the purified.

فلا اقسم بموقع النجوم وانه لقسم لو تعلمون عظيم انه لقران كريم في كتب مكنون لا يمسه الا المطهرون

A descent from the Guardian of all beings.

تنزيل من رب العلمين

Is it this discourse that you treat with complaisance, and do you make your provision consist in denying?

افبهذا الحديث انتم مدهنون وتجعلون رزقكم انكم تكذبون

Then why, when it reaches the throat, and you at that moment are looking on, and We are nearer to him than you, but you do not see clearly — then why, if you were not indebted, do you not make it return, if you are veracious?

فلولا اذا بلغت الحلقوم وانتم حينيذ تنظرون ونحن اقرب اليه منكم ولكن لا تبصرون فلولا ان كنتم غير مدينين ترجعونها ان كنتم صدقين

As for the one who is among those brought near: rest, and fragrance, and a garden of bliss.

فاما ان كان من المقربين فروح وريحان وجنت نعيم

And as for the one who is among the companions of the right: "Peace to you," from the companions of the right.

واما ان كان من اصحب اليمين فسلم لك من اصحب اليمين

And as for the one who is among the denying, astray ones: a welcome of boiling water, and a burning in the Blaze.

واما ان كان من المكذبين الضالين فنزل من حميم وتصليه جحيم

Surely, this is the truth of certainty.

ان هذا لهو حق اليقين

So glorify in the name of your Guardian, the Immense.

فسبح باسم ربك العظيم
