2:87 Sura 2 · Guidance for Those Who Guard Themselves Open the verse →
Every time a messenger came to you with what your own Selves did not lean toward, did you not grow proud?
أَفَكُلَّمَا جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌۢ بِمَا لَا تَهْوَىٰٓ أَنفُسُكُمُ ٱسْتَكْبَرْتُمْ -

Whether he be rich or poor, God is closer to them both; so do not follow emotion, to the point of no longer being just.
إِن يَكُنْ غَنِيًّا أَوْ فَقِيرًۭا فَٱللَّهُ أَوْلَىٰ بِهِمَا فَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا۟ ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ أَن تَعْدِلُوا۟ -

Every time a messenger brought them what their Self did not lean toward, they denied a fraction, and another fraction, they killed.
كُلَّمَا جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌۢ بِمَا لَا تَهْوَىٰٓ أَنفُسُهُمْ فَرِيقًۭا كَذَّبُوا۟ وَفَرِيقًۭا يَقْتُلُونَ -

and whoever is struck by My anger has indeed sunk.
وَمَن يَحْلِلْ عَلَيْهِ غَضَبِى فَقَدْ هَوَىٰ -

"O Dawud, We have made you a successor on earth; so judge among mankind with truth, and do not follow emotion, lest it lead you astray from the way of God.
يَٰدَاوُۥدُ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَٰكَ خَلِيفَةًۭ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱحْكُم بَيْنَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَا تَتَّبِعِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ -
53:4 Sura 53 · The Conscience Did Not Lie Open the verse →
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. By the star when it sets: your companion has not strayed, nor has he erred. He utters nothing from emotion — it is nothing but a revelation revealed.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْىٌۭ يُوحَىٰ -

They follow nothing but presumption, and what the Selves lean toward.
إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى ٱلْأَنفُسُ -

And the overturned one, He cast it down.
وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَىٰ -
79:41 Sura 79 · Those Who Tear Away Open the verse →
but as for him who feared standing before his Guardian, and forbade the Self emotion, then the Garden will indeed be his refuge.
وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفْسَ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَنَّةَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ
