Al-Hadid

What You Hold in Trust

  • In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. All that is in the heavens and the earth has glorified God.

  • And He is the All-Powerful, the Wise.

  • To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He gives life and gives death.

  • And He is capable of all things.

  • He is the First and the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden.

  • And He is All-Knowing of all things.

  • It is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then established Himself upon the Edifice.

  • He knows what penetrates into the earth and what comes out of it, what descends from the sky and what ascends into it.

  • And He is with you wherever you are.

  • And God sees perfectly what you do.

  • To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth.

  • And it is to God that all matters return.

  • He causes the night to enter into the day and causes the day to enter into the night.

  • And He is All-Knowing of what the chests contain.

  • Believe in God and His messenger, and spend from that which He has made you trustees of.

  • Those among you who have believed and spent will have a great reward.

  • What is [the matter] with you that you do not believe in God, while the messenger invites you to believe in your Guardian, and He has already taken your solemn engagement, if you are believers?

  • It is He who sends down upon His obedient one clear signs, to bring you out of the darknesses into the light.

  • And surely, God is to you full of kindness, Benevolent.

  • And what is [the matter] with you that you do not spend in the way of God, while to God belongs the inheritance of the heavens and the earth?

  • Not equal among you are those who spent and fought before the opening [and those who did so later].

  • ...and [those who did so] afterward. Those are greater in degree than those who spent and fought afterward.

  • But to all, God has promised the best [reward].

  • And God is Informed of what you do.

  • Who is it that will lend God a goodly loan, so He will multiply it for him, and he will have a generous reward?

  • The Day you will see the believing men and believing women, their light running before them and on their right.

  • Your good tidings today: gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein you will abide eternally.

  • That is the immense triumph.

  • The Day the hypocrite men and hypocrite women will say to those who believed: "Wait for us that we may borrow from your light." It will be said: "Go back behind you and seek a light."

  • Then a wall will be erected between them, having a gate, its interior containing benevolence, and its exterior, before it, containing punishment.

  • They will call to them: "Were we not with you?"

  • They will say: "Yes, but you put yourselves to trial, and awaited, and doubted, and false hopes deceived you until the command of God came, and the great deceiver deceived you concerning God."

  • So today no ransom will be taken from you, nor from those who disowned. Your refuge is the Fire; it is your nearest guarantor.

  • And what an evil destination!

  • Has the time not come for those who believe that their cores should become humble at the remembrance of God and what has descended of truth?

  • And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and the span grew long for them, so their cores hardened.

  • And many of them are the oversteppers.

  • Know that God gives life to the earth after its death.

  • We have already made the signs clear to you, that you might reason.

  • Indeed, the men and women who give alms, and who lend God a goodly loan — it will be multiplied for them, and they will have a generous reward.

  • And those who believe in God and His messengers — those are the men of truth.

  • And the witnesses, with their Guardian.

  • They will have their reward and their light.

  • And those who have disowned and denied Our signs — those are the companions of the Blaze.

  • Know that the present life is but play, distraction, adornment, mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in accumulation of goods and children — like the example of a saving rain whose vegetation delights the sowers, then it dries up, and you see it turn yellow, then it becomes debris.

  • And in the last life: severe punishment, and forgiveness from God and good pleasure.

  • And the present life is nothing but a deceptive enjoyment.

  • Race toward forgiveness from your Guardian and a garden whose width is like the width of the heaven and the earth, prepared for those who believe in God and His messengers.

  • That is the favor of God, which He grants to whom He wills.

  • And God holds the immense favor.

  • No calamity strikes the earth or yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being.

  • That is indeed easy for God — so that you do not lament for what has escaped you, nor exult [excessively] over what He has given you.

  • And God does not love any arrogant boaster.

  • Those who are stingy and enjoin stinginess upon people.

  • 57:24🖼

And whoever turns away — indeed God is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy.

  • We have certainly sent Our messengers with clear proofs and sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that people may maintain equity.

  • And We sent down iron, in which is great strength and benefits for the people.

  • And so that God may distinguish who helps Him and His messengers, without seeing Him.

  • Indeed, God is the Strong, the All-Powerful.

  • And We certainly sent Nuh and Ibrahim and placed in their descendants prophecy and the Scripture.

  • Some of them let themselves be guided...

  • ...and many of them are the oversteppers.

  • Then We caused Our messengers to follow in their footsteps, and We caused Issa son of Maryam to follow, and We gave him the Injil.

  • And We placed in the cores of those who followed him kindness and benevolence, and monasticism, which they invented — We did not prescribe it for them — except in seeking the good pleasure of God.

  • But they did not observe it as it should have been observed.

  • So We gave those among them who believed their reward.

  • And many of them are the oversteppers.

  • O you who have believed! guard yourselves toward God and believe in His messenger; He will give you a double portion of His benevolence and make for you a light by which you will walk, and He will forgive you.

  • And God is Most-Forgiving, Benevolent — so that the People of the Scripture may know that they have no power over anything of the favor of God, and that [all] favor is in the hand of God, which He gives to whom He wills.

  • And God holds the immense favor.
