He frowned and turned his back, because the blind man came to him.

عبس وتولى ان جاءه الاعمى

And what gives you an idea?

وما يدريك

Perhaps he might purify himself, or remember, and the reminder would benefit him.

لعله يزكى او يذكر فتنفعه الذكرى

As for him who considers himself self-sufficient, you go out to him, and it is not upon you if he does not purify himself.

اما من استغنى فانت له تصدى وما عليك الا يزكى

It is a reminder,

انها تذكرة

— so whoever wants, let him remember it —, in honored chronicles, elevated and purified, in the hands of envoys, noble and virtuous.

فمن شاء ذكره في صحف مكرمة مرفوعة مطهرة بايدي سفرة كرام بررة

May the human being perish; how he disowns!

قتل الانسن ما اكفره

From what thing did He create him?

من اى شىء خلقه

From a drop He created him and measured him, then He made the way easy for him, then He caused him to die and buried him.

من نطفة خلقه فقدره ثم السبيل يسره ثم اماته فاقبره

Then, when He wills, He will deploy him.

ثم اذا شاء انشره

By no means! He has not yet concluded what He commanded him.

كلا لما يقض ما امره

So let the human being look at his food:

فلينظر الانسن الى طعامه

that We poured the water in abundance, then We split the earth in clefts, then We caused to grow within it grain, and grapes and fodder, and olives and date-palms, and dense enclosed gardens, and savoury fruit and pasture, as an enjoyment for you and your cattle.

انا صببنا الماء صبا ثم شققنا الارض شقا فانبتنا فيها حبا وعنبا وقضبا وزيتونا ونخلا وحدايق غلبا وفكهة وابا متعا لكم ولانعمكم

Then, when the Deafening Blast comes, the Day a man will flee from his brother, and his mother and his father, and his consort and his sons,

فاذا جاءت الصاخة يوم يفر المرء من اخيه وامه وابيه وصحبته وبنيه

for every person among them, that Day, is a matter that will absorb him.

لكل امري منهم يوميذ شان يغنيه

Some faces, that Day, will be radiant, laughing, exulting.

وجوه يوميذ مسفرة ضاحكة مستبشرة

And some faces, that Day, will have dust upon them, veiled in dark dust.

ووجوه يوميذ عليها غبرة ترهقها قترة

Those are the disowners, the depraved.
