He Frowned
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. He frowned and turned his back, because the blind man came to him.
And what gives you an idea?
Perhaps he might purify himself, or remember, and the reminder would benefit him.
As for him who considers himself self-sufficient, you go out to him, and it is not upon you if he does not purify himself.
But as for him who came to you hurrying, and he dreads, from him you are distracted. By no means!
It is a reminder,
— so whoever wants, let him remember it —, in honored chronicles, elevated and purified, in the hands of envoys, noble and virtuous.
May the human being perish; how he disowns!
From what thing did He create him?
From a drop He created him and measured him, then He made the way easy for him, then He caused him to die and buried him.
Then, when He wills, He will deploy him.
By no means! He has not yet concluded what He commanded him.
So let the human being look at his food:
that We poured the water in abundance, then We split the earth in clefts, then We caused to grow within it grain, and grapes and fodder, and olives and date-palms, and dense enclosed gardens, and savoury fruit and pasture, as a provision for you and your cattle.
Then, when the Deafening Blast comes, the Day a man will flee from his brother, and his mother and his father, and his consort and his sons,
for every person among them, that Day, is a matter that will suffice him.
Some faces, that Day, will be radiant, laughing, exulting.
And some faces, that Day, will have dust upon them, veiled in dark dust.
Those are the disowners, the depraved.
