Al-Jathiya
Emotion Taken as a Deity
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent.
Ḥa. Mim.
حم
The descent of the Scripture comes from God, the All-Powerful, the Wise.
تنزيل الكتب من الله العزيز الحكيم
Surely, in the heavens and the earth are signs for the believers.
ان في السموت والارض لءايت للمومنين
And in your creation, and in the living beings He spreads, are signs for a people who have certainty; and in the alternation of night and day, in the provision God sends down from the sky and by which He brings the earth back to life after its death, and in the diversity of the winds, are signs for a people who reason.
وفي خلقكم وما يبث من دابة ءايت لقوم يوقنون واختلف اليل والنهار وما انزل الله من السماء من رزق فاحيا به الارض بعد موتها وتصريف الريح ءايت لقوم يعقلون
Those are the signs of God, which We recite to you in truth.
تلك ءايت الله نتلوها عليك بالحق
So in what discourse, after God and His signs, will they believe?
فباى حديث بعد الله وءايته يومنون
Woe to every transgressive distorter, who hears the signs of God recited to him, then persists, growing proud, as if he had not heard them.
ويل لكل افاك اثيم يسمع ءايت الله تتلى عليه ثم يصر مستكبرا كان لم يسمعها
So give him news of a painful punishment.
فبشره بعذاب اليم
And when he learns something of Our signs, he takes them in mockery.
واذا علم من ءايتنا شيا اتخذها هزوا
Those are the ones who will have a degrading punishment.
اوليك لهم عذاب مهين
Beyond them is Jahannam; and what they earned will not avail them at all, nor will what they took as allies besides God.
من ورايهم جهنم ولا يغني عنهم ما كسبوا شيا ولا ما اتخذوا من دون الله اولياء
And they will have an immense punishment.
ولهم عذاب عظيم
This is guidance,
هذا هدى
and those who disown the signs of their Guardian will have a punishment of painful defilement.
والذين كفروا بايت ربهم لهم عذاب من رجز اليم
God is the One who subjected the sea for you, so that vessels may sail upon it by His command, and so that you may seek of His favor, and perhaps you will be grateful.
الله الذي سخر لكم البحر لتجري الفلك فيه بامره ولتبتغوا من فضله ولعلكم تشكرون
And He subjected for you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, all of it from Him.
وسخر لكم ما في السموت وما في الارض جميعا منه
There are surely in that signs for a people who reflect.
ان في ذلك لءايت لقوم يتفكرون
Tell those who believe to forgive those who do not hope for the days of God, so that He may recompense a people for what they used to earn.
قل للذين ءامنوا يغفروا للذين لا يرجون ايام الله ليجزي قوما بما كانوا يكسبون
Whoever does a sound deed, it is for himself,
من عمل صلحا فلنفسه
and whoever does ill, it is against himself,
ومن اساء فعليها
then to your Guardian you will be returned.
ثم الى ربكم ترجعون
We indeed gave the Sons of Israel the Scripture, the judgment, and the charge of informing; We provided them with wholesome things and favored them above all beings; and We gave them clear proofs concerning the Command.
ولقد ءاتينا بني اسرءيل الكتب والحكم والنبوة ورزقنهم من الطيبت وفضلنهم على العلمين وءاتينهم بينت من الامر
They did not differ except after knowledge had come to them,
فما اختلفوا الا من بعد ما جاءهم العلم
out of iniquity among themselves.
بغيا بينهم
Your Guardian will indeed decide between them, on the Day of Appearance, concerning what they used to differ over.
ان ربك يقضي بينهم يوم القيمة فيما كانوا فيه يختلفون
Then We placed you upon a legislated way from the Command, so follow it,
ثم جعلنك على شريعة من الامر فاتبعها
and do not follow the emotions of those who do not know,
ولا تتبع اهواء الذين لا يعلمون
for they will not avail you anything against God,
انهم لن يغنوا عنك من الله شيا
and the wrongdoers are allies of one another,
وان الظلمين بعضهم اولياء بعض
while God is the custodian of those who guard themselves.
والله ولي المتقين
These are insights for mankind, and guidance and benevolence for a people who have certainty.
هذا بصير للناس وهدى ورحمة لقوم يوقنون
Or do those who have perpetrated evil deeds think that We will make them like those who have believed and done sound deeds, equal in their life and their death?
ام حسب الذين اجترحوا السيات ان نجعلهم كالذين ءامنوا وعملوا الصلحت سواء محياهم ومماتهم
How evil is what they decide!
ساء ما يحكمون
And God created the heavens and the earth in truth,
وخلق الله السموت والارض بالحق
and so that every Self may be recompensed for what it earned, and they will not be wronged.
ولتجزى كل نفس بما كسبت وهم لا يظلمون
Have you seen the one who has taken his emotion as his deity? God knowingly led him astray, and sealed his hearing and his core, and placed a cover over his sight. Who then will guide him after God?
افرءيت من اتخذ الهه هوىه واضله الله على علم وختم على سمعه وقلبه وجعل على بصره غشوة فمن يهديه من بعد الله
Will you not then remember?
افلا تذكرون
And they said: "There is nothing but our present life; we die and we live, and nothing annihilates us but time."
وقالوا ما هي الا حياتنا الدنيا نموت ونحيا وما يهلكنا الا الدهر
They have no knowledge of that,
وما لهم بذلك من علم
they only presume.
ان هم الا يظنون
And when Our clear signs are recited to them, their only argument is to say: "Bring back our forefathers, if you are veracious."
واذا تتلى عليهم ءايتنا بينت ما كان حجتهم الا ان قالوا ايتوا باباينا ان كنتم صدقين
Say: "God gives you life, then causes you to die, then He will bring you together on the Day of Appearance, about which there is no doubt,
قل الله يحييكم ثم يميتكم ثم يجمعكم الى يوم القيمة لا ريب فيه
but most men do not know."
ولكن اكثر الناس لا يعلمون
And to God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth,
ولله ملك السموت والارض
and on the day the Hour rises, that day the workers of falsehood will lose.
ويوم تقوم الساعة يوميذ يخسر المبطلون
And you will see every community on its knees,
وترى كل امة جاثية
every community will be called to its record.
كل امة تدعى الى كتبها
"Today you are recompensed for what you used to do."
اليوم تجزون ما كنتم تعملون
"This is Our record; it utters about you the truth,
هذا كتبنا ينطق عليكم بالحق
for We were having transcribed what you used to do."
انا كنا نستنسخ ما كنتم تعملون
As for those who believed and did sound deeds, their Guardian will admit them into His benevolence;
فاما الذين ءامنوا وعملوا الصلحت فيدخلهم ربهم في رحمته
that is the manifest triumph.
ذلك هو الفوز المبين
And as for those who disowned: "Were not My signs recited to you? But you grew proud and were a severed people."
واما الذين كفروا افلم تكن ءايتي تتلى عليكم فاستكبرتم وكنتم قوما مجرمين
And when it was said: "Indeed the promise of God is true, and the Hour, no doubt about it," you said: "We have no idea what the Hour is; we only presume, and we are not certain."
واذا قيل ان وعد الله حق والساعة لا ريب فيها قلتم ما ندري ما الساعة ان نظن الا ظنا وما نحن بمستيقنين
And the evil consequences of what they did will appear to them,
وبدا لهم سيات ما عملوا
and what they used to mock will envelop them.
وحاق بهم ما كانوا به يستهزءون
And it will be said: "Today We forget you, as you forgot the meeting of this your day; your resort is the Fire, and you will have no help."
وقيل اليوم ننسىكم كما نسيتم لقاء يومكم هذا وماوىكم النار وما لكم من نصرين
"That is because you took the signs of God in mockery, and the present life deluded you."
ذلكم بانكم اتخذتم ءايت الله هزوا وغرتكم الحيوة الدنيا
So today they will not be taken out of it, nor will they be asked to make amends.
فاليوم لا يخرجون منها ولا هم يستعتبون
So to God belongs praise, Guardian of the heavens and Guardian of the earth, Guardian of all beings.
فلله الحمد رب السموت ورب الارض رب العلمين
And to Him belongs greatness in the heavens and the earth,
وله الكبرياء في السموت والارض
and He is the All-Powerful, the Wise.
وهو العزيز الحكيم
