Al-Inshiqaq
The Sky Splits Open
بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent.
When the sky splits open, and listens to its Guardian — and it is obligated to do so —, and when the earth is extended, and casts out what is within it and empties itself, and listens to its Guardian — and it is obligated to do so.
إذا ٱلسمآء ٱنشقت وأذنت لربها وحقت وإذا ٱلأرض مدت وألقت ما فيها وتخلت وأذنت لربها وحقت
O human being! You are indeed making your laborious way toward your Guardian, and you will meet Him.
يأيها ٱلإنسن إنك كادح إلى ربك كدحا فملقيه
As for the one who is given his record in his right hand, he will be reckoned an easy reckoning, and return to his people elated.
فأما من أوتي كتبه بيمينه فسوف يحاسب حسابا يسيرا وينقلب إلى أهله مسرورا
But as for the one who is given his record behind his back, he will call for his ruin, and he will be made to burn in an inferno.
وأما من أوتي كتبه ورآء ظهره فسوف يدعوا ثبورا ويصلى سعيرا
He had been elated among his people.
إنه كان في أهله مسرورا
He presumed he would never return. But yes!
إنه ظن أن لن يحور بلى
Indeed, his Guardian was ever All-Seeing of him.
إن ربه كان به بصيرا
No! I swear by the twilight glow, and by the night and what it gathers, and by the moon when it becomes full! You will surely embark upon state after state.
فلآ أقسم بٱلشفق وٱليل وما وسق وٱلقمر إذا ٱتسق لتركبن طبقا عن طبق
So what is the matter with them that they do not believe? And when the Recitation is read to them, they do not prostrate?
فما لهم لا يؤمنون وإذا قرئ عليهم ٱلقرءان لا يسجدون
Rather, those who have disowned deny, and God knows best what they keep within.
بل ٱلذين كفروا يكذبون وٱلله أعلم بما يوعون
So announce to them a painful punishment,
فبشرهم بعذاب أليم
except for those who have believed and done sound deeds; theirs is a reward never held over them.
إلا ٱلذين ءامنوا وعملوا ٱلصلحت لهم أجر غير ممنون
