The Poor Before God
بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent.
Praise be to God, Originator of the heavens and the earth, who made the Agents messengers organized into departments — by twos, by threes, by fours.
ٱلحمد لله فاطر ٱلسموت وٱلأرض جاعل ٱلملئكة رسلا أولي أجنحة مثنى وثلث وربع
He adds to creation whatever He wills.
يزيد في ٱلخلق ما يشآء
God is indeed capable of all things.
إن ٱلله على كل شىء قدير
Whatever benevolence God opens up for mankind, none can hold it back,
ما يفتح ٱلله للناس من رحمة فلا ممسك لها
and whatever He holds back, none can release it after Him.
وما يمسك فلا مرسل له من بعده
And He is the All-Powerful, the Wise.
وهو ٱلعزيز ٱلحكيم
O mankind, remember God's blessing upon you.
يأيها ٱلناس ٱذكروا نعمت ٱلله عليكم
Is there any creator other than God who provides for you from the sky and the earth?
هل من خلق غير ٱلله يرزقكم من ٱلسمآء وٱلأرض
There is no deity but Him.
لآ إله إلا هو
How then are you turned away?
فأنى تؤفكون
And if they deny you, messengers before you were already denied.
وإن يكذبوك فقد كذبت رسل من قبلك
And it is to God that all matters return.
وإلى ٱلله ترجع ٱلأمور
O mankind, God's promise is indeed true.
يأيها ٱلناس إن وعد ٱلله حق
So do not let the present life delude you,
فلا تغرنكم ٱلحيوة ٱلدنيا
and do not let the great deluder delude you about God.
ولا يغرنكم بٱلله ٱلغرور
The Diverter is indeed an enemy to you: so take him as an enemy.
إن ٱلشيطن لكم عدو فٱتخذوه عدوا
He only calls his party so that they may be among the companions of the Inferno.
إنما يدعوا حزبه ليكونوا من أصحب ٱلسعير
Those who disown will have a severe punishment,
ٱلذين كفروا لهم عذاب شديد
and those who believed and did sound deeds will have forgiveness and a great reward.
وٱلذين ءامنوا وعملوا ٱلصلحت لهم مغفرة وأجر كبير
The one to whom the evil of his deed has been made appealing, so that he sees it as beautiful?
أفمن زين له سوء عمله فرءاه حسنا
God indeed leads astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills.
فإن ٱلله يضل من يشآء ويهدي من يشآء
So let not your Self waste away in desolation over them.
فلا تذهب نفسك عليهم حسرت
God is All-Knowing of what they do.
إن ٱلله عليم بما يصنعون
It is God who has sent the winds, which stir up clouds; We drove them to a dead land, and by them We brought the earth back to life after its death.
وٱلله ٱلذي أرسل ٱلريح فتثير سحابا فسقنه إلى بلد ميت فأحيينا به ٱلأرض بعد موتها
So will be the Deployment.
كذلك ٱلنشور
Whoever desires might, it is to God that might belongs in its entirety.
من كان يريد ٱلعزة فلله ٱلعزة جميعا
To Him ascends the wholesome word,
إليه يصعد ٱلكلم ٱلطيب
and the sound deed, He elevates it.
وٱلعمل ٱلصلح يرفعه
And those who plot evil deeds will have a severe punishment,
وٱلذين يمكرون ٱلسيات لهم عذاب شديد
and the plot of those is bound to perish.
ومكر أولئك هو يبور
God created you from earth, then from a drop, then made you into pairs.
وٱلله خلقكم من تراب ثم من نطفة ثم جعلكم أزوجا
No female carries nor gives birth except with His knowledge.
وما تحمل من أنثى ولا تضع إلا بعلمه
No being has his life extended, nor is his life shortened, except that it is in a record.
وما يعمر من معمر ولا ينقص من عمره إلا في كتب
That is indeed easy for God.
إن ذلك على ٱلله يسير
The two seas are not alike:
وما يستوي ٱلبحران
this one is sweet, fresh, pleasant to drink, and that one is salty, bitter.
هذا عذب فرات سآئغ شرابه وهذا ملح أجاج
From each you eat fresh flesh, and you extract an ornament that you wear,
ومن كل تأكلون لحما طريا وتستخرجون حلية تلبسونها
and you see the vessels cleaving through it, so that you may seek of His favor, and perhaps you will be grateful.
وترى ٱلفلك فيه مواخر لتبتغوا من فضله ولعلكم تشكرون
He makes the night penetrate into the day, and makes the day penetrate into the night,
يولج ٱليل في ٱلنهار ويولج ٱلنهار في ٱليل
and He has subjected the sun and the moon,
وسخر ٱلشمس وٱلقمر
each running to an appointed term.
كل يجري لأجل مسمى
That is God, your Guardian; to Him belongs the dominion.
ذلكم ٱلله ربكم له ٱلملك
And those you call upon besides Him do not possess even the skin of a date-stone.
وٱلذين تدعون من دونه ما يملكون من قطمير
If you call upon them, they do not hear your call; and even if they heard, they would not respond to you.
إن تدعوهم لا يسمعوا دعآءكم ولو سمعوا ما ٱستجابوا لكم
And on the Day of Appearance they will disown your association.
ويوم ٱلقيمة يكفرون بشرككم
And none can inform you like the Intimately Acquainted One.
ولا ينبئك مثل خبير
O mankind, it is you who are the poor before God,
يأيها ٱلناس أنتم ٱلفقرآء إلى ٱلله
while God is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy.
وٱلله هو ٱلغني ٱلحميد
If He willed, He would make you disappear and bring a new creation.
إن يشأ يذهبكم ويأت بخلق جديد
And that is not at all out of God's grasp.
وما ذلك على ٱلله بعزيز
No bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another;
ولا تزر وازرة وزر أخرى
and if one heavily laden calls for help with his freight, nothing of it will be carried, even by a close relative.
وإن تدع مثقلة إلى حملها لا يحمل منه شىء ولو كان ذا قربى
You only warn those who dread their Guardian even though He escapes their senses, and maintain the Contact,
إنما تنذر ٱلذين يخشون ربهم بٱلغيب وأقاموا ٱلصلوة
and whoever purifies himself purifies himself only for himself.
ومن تزكى فإنما يتزكى لنفسه
And to God is the destination.
وإلى ٱلله ٱلمصير
The blind and the seeing are not equal, nor are the darknesses and the light, nor shade and scorching heat.
وما يستوي ٱلأعمى وٱلبصير ولا ٱلظلمت ولا ٱلنور ولا ٱلظل ولا ٱلحرور
Nor are the living and the dead equal.
وما يستوي ٱلأحيآء ولا ٱلأموت
God indeed makes whoever He wills hear,
إن ٱلله يسمع من يشآء
and you cannot make those in the graves hear.
ومآ أنت بمسمع من في ٱلقبور
You are but a warner.
إن أنت إلا نذير
We have sent you, in truth, as a bearer of good tidings and a warner.
إنآ أرسلنك بٱلحق بشيرا ونذيرا
And there is no community but a warner passed among it.
وإن من أمة إلا خلا فيها نذير
And if they call you a liar, those before them already denied: their messengers came to them with clear proofs, the Formularies, and the illuminating Scripture; then I seized those who disowned.
وإن يكذبوك فقد كذب ٱلذين من قبلهم جآءتهم رسلهم بٱلبينت وبٱلزبر وبٱلكتب ٱلمنير ثم أخذت ٱلذين كفروا
And how was My disavowal!
فكيف كان نكير
Have you not seen that God sends down water from the sky, by which We bring forth fruits of varying colors?
ألم تر أن ٱلله أنزل من ٱلسمآء مآء فأخرجنا به ثمرت مختلفا ألونها
And in the mountains are tracts, white and red, of varying colors, and others intensely black.
ومن ٱلجبال جدد بيض وحمر مختلف ألونها وغرابيب سود
And among mankind, and living beings, and cattle, there is likewise a variety of colors.
ومن ٱلناس وٱلدوآب وٱلأنعم مختلف ألونه كذلك
Only those who know, among His obedient ones, dread God.
إنما يخشى ٱلله من عباده ٱلعلمؤا
God is indeed All-Powerful, Most-Forgiving.
إن ٱلله عزيز غفور
Those who recite the Scripture of God, maintain the Contact, and spend, secretly and openly, from what We have provided them, hope for a trade that will never perish, so that He may faithfully repay them their rewards and give them more of His favor.
إن ٱلذين يتلون كتب ٱلله وأقاموا ٱلصلوة وأنفقوا مما رزقنهم سرا وعلانية يرجون تجرة لن تبور ليوفيهم أجورهم ويزيدهم من فضله
He is indeed Most-Forgiving, Most-Grateful.
إنه غفور شكور
And what We have revealed to you of the Scripture is the truth, confirming what came before it.
وٱلذي أوحينآ إليك من ٱلكتب هو ٱلحق مصدقا لما بين يديه
God is surely, toward His obedient ones, Intimately Acquainted and All-Seeing.
إن ٱلله بعباده لخبير بصير
Then We caused the Scripture to be inherited by those We chose among Our obedient ones:
ثم أورثنا ٱلكتب ٱلذين ٱصطفينا من عبادنا
some of them wrong themselves,
فمنهم ظالم لنفسه
some follow a moderate course,
ومنهم مقتصد
and some race ahead in good deeds, by God's permission.
ومنهم سابق بٱلخيرت بإذن ٱلله
That is the great favor.
ذلك هو ٱلفضل ٱلكبير
Gardens of permanence, which they will enter, ornamented therein with bracelets of gold and pearls,
جنت عدن يدخلونها يحلون فيها من أساور من ذهب ولؤلؤا
and their garment therein will be silk.
ولباسهم فيها حرير
And they will say: "Praise be to God, who has removed grief from us; our Guardian is surely Most-Forgiving, Most-Grateful,
وقالوا ٱلحمد لله ٱلذي أذهب عنا ٱلحزن إن ربنا لغفور شكور
who has lodged us, by His favor, in the abode of the station, where no fatigue touches us, nor any weariness."
ٱلذي أحلنا دار ٱلمقامة من فضله لا يمسنا فيها نصب ولا يمسنا فيها لغوب
And those who disown will have the fire of Jahannam; it will not be decreed for them to die, nor will its punishment be lightened for them.
وٱلذين كفروا لهم نار جهنم لا يقضى عليهم فيموتوا ولا يخفف عنهم من عذابها
Thus do We recompense every great disowner.
كذلك نجزي كل كفور
And there they will shriek: "Our Guardian, bring us out, we will do sound deeds, other than what we used to do!"
وهم يصطرخون فيها ربنآ أخرجنا نعمل صلحا غير ٱلذي كنا نعمل
Did We not grant you a life long enough that whoever wished to remember could remember? And the warner had come to you.
أولم نعمركم ما يتذكر فيه من تذكر وجآءكم ٱلنذير
So taste,
فذوقوا
for the wrongdoers have no help.
فما للظلمين من نصير
God indeed knows what escapes the senses in the heavens and the earth;
إن ٱلله علم غيب ٱلسموت وٱلأرض
He is All-Knowing of what the chests contain.
إنه عليم بذات ٱلصدور
It is He who made you successors on the earth:
هو ٱلذي جعلكم خلئف في ٱلأرض
whoever disowns, his disowning falls back upon him,
فمن كفر فعليه كفره
and the disowning of the disowners only increases them in loathing before their Guardian,
ولا يزيد ٱلكفرين كفرهم عند ربهم إلا مقتا
and the disowning of the disowners only increases them in loss.
ولا يزيد ٱلكفرين كفرهم إلا خسارا
Say: "Have you considered your partners whom you call upon besides God? Show me what they have created of the earth, or do they have a share in the heavens?
قل أرءيتم شركآءكم ٱلذين تدعون من دون ٱلله أروني ماذا خلقوا من ٱلأرض أم لهم شرك في ٱلسموت
Or have We given them a scripture, so that they rely on clear proofs from it?"
أم ءاتينهم كتبا فهم على بينت منه
Rather, the wrongdoers promise one another nothing but delusion.
بل إن يعد ٱلظلمون بعضهم بعضا إلا غرورا
God indeed holds the heavens and the earth, lest they cease to exist;
إن ٱلله يمسك ٱلسموت وٱلأرض أن تزولا
and were they to cease, none besides Him could hold them.
ولئن زالتآ إن أمسكهما من أحد من بعده
He is Forbearing, Most-Forgiving.
إنه كان حليما غفورا
And they swore by God, with the utmost strength of their oaths, that if a warner came to them, they would certainly be better guided than any of the communities.
وأقسموا بٱلله جهد أيمنهم لئن جآءهم نذير ليكونن أهدى من إحدى ٱلأمم
But when a warner came to them, it only increased them in recoil,
فلما جآءهم نذير ما زادهم إلا نفورا
growing proud in the land, and evil plotting.
ٱستكبارا في ٱلأرض ومكر ٱلسيئ
But evil plotting only envelops its own doers.
ولا يحيق ٱلمكر ٱلسيئ إلا بأهله
So do they await anything but the norm of the ancients?
فهل ينظرون إلا سنت ٱلأولين
But you will never find any change in God's norm,
فلن تجد لسنت ٱلله تبديلا
and you will never find any shift in God's norm.
ولن تجد لسنت ٱلله تحويلا
Have they not traveled through the earth and looked at what was the end of those before them, who were yet superior to them in strength?
أولم يسيروا في ٱلأرض فينظروا كيف كان عقبة ٱلذين من قبلهم وكانوا أشد منهم قوة
And nothing in the heavens or on the earth could render God powerless.
وما كان ٱلله ليعجزه من شىء في ٱلسموت ولا في ٱلأرض
He is All-Knowing, Capable.
إنه كان عليما قديرا
And if God were to seize mankind for what they have earned, He would not leave on the face of the earth any living being;
ولو يؤاخذ ٱلله ٱلناس بما كسبوا ما ترك على ظهرها من دآبة
but He adjourns them until an appointed term.
ولكن يؤخرهم إلى أجل مسمى
And when their term comes, God is indeed All-Seeing of His obedient ones.
فإذا جآء أجلهم فإن ٱلله كان بعباده بصيرا
