Abasa

He frowned and turned his back, because the blind man came to him.

عبس وتولى أن جآءه ٱلأعمى

And what gives you an idea?

وما يدريك

Perhaps he might purify himself, or remember, and the reminder would benefit him.

لعله يزكى أو يذكر فتنفعه ٱلذكرى

As for him who considers himself self-sufficient, you go out to him, and it is not upon you if he does not purify himself.

أما من ٱستغنى فأنت له تصدى وما عليك ألا يزكى

It is a reminder,

إنها تذكرة

— so whoever wants, let him remember it —, in honored chronicles, elevated and purified, in the hands of envoys, noble and virtuous.

فمن شآء ذكره في صحف مكرمة مرفوعة مطهرة بأيدي سفرة كرام بررة

May the human being perish; how he disowns!

قتل ٱلإنسن مآ أكفره

From what thing did He create him?

من أى شىء خلقه

From a drop He created him and measured him, then He made the way easy for him, then He caused him to die and buried him.

من نطفة خلقه فقدره ثم ٱلسبيل يسره ثم أماته فأقبره

Then, when He wills, He will deploy him.

ثم إذا شآء أنشره

By no means! He has not yet concluded what He commanded him.

كلا لما يقض مآ أمره

So let the human being look at his food:

فلينظر ٱلإنسن إلى طعامه

that We poured the water in abundance, then We split the earth in clefts, then We caused to grow within it grain, and grapes and fodder, and olives and date-palms, and dense enclosed gardens, and savoury fruit and pasture, as an enjoyment for you and your cattle.

أنا صببنا ٱلمآء صبا ثم شققنا ٱلأرض شقا فأنبتنا فيها حبا وعنبا وقضبا وزيتونا ونخلا وحدآئق غلبا وفكهة وأبا متعا لكم ولأنعمكم

Then, when the Deafening Blast comes, the Day a man will flee from his brother, and his mother and his father, and his consort and his sons,

فإذا جآءت ٱلصآخة يوم يفر ٱلمرء من أخيه وأمه وأبيه وصحبته وبنيه

for every person among them, that Day, is a matter that will absorb him.

لكل ٱمرئ منهم يومئذ شأن يغنيه

Some faces, that Day, will be radiant, laughing, exulting.

وجوه يومئذ مسفرة ضاحكة مستبشرة

And some faces, that Day, will have dust upon them, veiled in dark dust.

ووجوه يومئذ عليها غبرة ترهقها قترة

Those are the disowners, the depraved.

أولئك هم ٱلكفرة ٱلفجرة
