What You Hold in Trust
In the name of God, the All-Benevolent, the Benevolent. All that is in the heavens and the earth has glorified God.
بسم ٱلله ٱلرحمن ٱلرحيم سبح لله ما في ٱلسموت وٱلأرضAnd He is the All-Powerful, the Wise.
وهو ٱلعزيز ٱلحكيمTo Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He gives life and gives death.
له ملك ٱلسموت وٱلأرض يحي ويميتAnd He is capable of all things.
وهو على كل شىء قديرHe is the First and the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden.
هو ٱلأول وٱلءاخر وٱلظهر وٱلباطنAnd He is All-Knowing of all things.
وهو بكل شىء عليمIt is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then established Himself upon the Edifice.
هو ٱلذي خلق ٱلسموت وٱلأرض في ستة أيام ثم ٱستوى على ٱلعرشHe knows what penetrates into the earth and what comes out of it, what descends from the sky and what ascends into it.
يعلم ما يلج في ٱلأرض وما يخرج منها وما ينزل من ٱلسمآء وما يعرج فيهاAnd He is with you wherever you are.
وهو معكم أين ما كنتمAnd God sees perfectly what you do.
وٱلله بما تعملون بصيرTo Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth.
له ملك ٱلسموت وٱلأرضAnd it is to God that all matters return.
وإلى ٱلله ترجع ٱلأمورHe causes the night to enter into the day and causes the day to enter into the night.
يولج ٱليل في ٱلنهار ويولج ٱلنهار في ٱليلAnd He is All-Knowing of what the chests contain.
وهو عليم بذات ٱلصدورBelieve in God and His messenger, and spend from that which He has made you trustees of.
ءامنوا بٱلله ورسوله وأنفقوا مما جعلكم مستخلفين فيهThose among you who have believed and spent will have a great reward.
فٱلذين ءامنوا منكم وأنفقوا لهم أجر كبيرWhat is [the matter] with you that you do not believe in God, while the messenger invites you to believe in your Guardian, and He has already taken your solemn engagement, if you are believers?
وما لكم لا تؤمنون بٱلله وٱلرسول يدعوكم لتؤمنوا بربكم وقد أخذ ميثقكم إن كنتم مؤمنينIt is He who sends down upon His obedient one clear signs, to bring you out of the darknesses into the light.
هو ٱلذي ينزل على عبده ءايت بينت ليخرجكم من ٱلظلمت إلى ٱلنورAnd surely, God is to you full of kindness, Benevolent.
وإن ٱلله بكم لرءوف رحيمAnd what is [the matter] with you that you do not spend in the way of God, while to God belongs the inheritance of the heavens and the earth?
وما لكم ألا تنفقوا في سبيل ٱلله ولله ميرث ٱلسموت وٱلأرضNot equal among you are those who spent and fought before the opening [and those who did so later].
لا يستوي منكم من أنفق من قبل ٱلفتح وقتل...and [those who did so] afterward. Those are greater in degree than those who spent and fought afterward.
أولئك أعظم درجة من ٱلذين أنفقوا من بعد وقتلواBut to all, God has promised the best [reward].
وكلا وعد ٱلله ٱلحسنىAnd God is Informed of what you do.
وٱلله بما تعملون خبيرWho is it that will lend God a goodly loan, so He will multiply it for him, and he will have a generous reward?
من ذا ٱلذي يقرض ٱلله قرضا حسنا فيضعفه له وله أجر كريمThe Day you will see the believing men and believing women, their light running before them and on their right.
يوم ترى ٱلمؤمنين وٱلمؤمنت يسعى نورهم بين أيديهم وبأيمنهمYour good tidings today: gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein you will abide eternally.
بشرىكم ٱليوم جنت تجري من تحتها ٱلأنهر خلدين فيهاThat is the immense triumph.
ذلك هو ٱلفوز ٱلعظيمThe Day the hypocrite men and hypocrite women will say to those who believed: "Wait for us that we may borrow from your light." It will be said: "Go back behind you and seek a light."
يوم يقول ٱلمنفقون وٱلمنفقت للذين ءامنوا ٱنظرونا نقتبس من نوركم قيل ٱرجعوا ورآءكم فٱلتمسوا نوراThen a wall will be erected between them, having a gate, its interior containing benevolence, and its exterior, before it, containing punishment.
فضرب بينهم بسور له باب باطنه فيه ٱلرحمة وظهره من قبله ٱلعذابThey will call to them: "Were we not with you?"
ينادونهم ألم نكن معكمThey will say: "Yes, but you put yourselves to trial, and awaited, and doubted, and false hopes deceived you until the command of God came, and the great deceiver deceived you concerning God."
قالوا بلى ولكنكم فتنتم أنفسكم وتربصتم وٱرتبتم وغرتكم ٱلأماني حتى جآء أمر ٱلله وغركم بٱلله ٱلغرورSo today no ransom will be taken from you, nor from those who disowned. Your refuge is the Fire; it is your nearest guarantor.
فٱليوم لا يؤخذ منكم فدية ولا من ٱلذين كفروا مأوىكم ٱلنار هي مولىكمAnd what an evil destination!
وبئس ٱلمصيرHas the time not come for those who believe that their cores should become humble at the remembrance of God and what has descended of truth?
ألم يأن للذين ءامنوا أن تخشع قلوبهم لذكر ٱلله وما نزل من ٱلحقAnd let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and the span grew long for them, so their cores hardened.
ولا يكونوا كٱلذين أوتوا ٱلكتب من قبل فطال عليهم ٱلأمد فقست قلوبهمAnd many of them are the oversteppers.
وكثير منهم فسقونKnow that God gives life to the earth after its death.
ٱعلموا أن ٱلله يحي ٱلأرض بعد موتهاWe have already made the signs clear to you, that you might reason.
قد بينا لكم ٱلءايت لعلكم تعقلونIndeed, the men and women who give alms, and who lend God a goodly loan — it will be multiplied for them, and they will have a generous reward.
إن ٱلمصدقين وٱلمصدقت وأقرضوا ٱلله قرضا حسنا يضعف لهم ولهم أجر كريمAnd those who believe in God and His messengers — those are the men of truth.
وٱلذين ءامنوا بٱلله ورسله أولئك هم ٱلصديقونAnd the witnesses, with their Guardian.
وٱلشهدآء عند ربهمThey will have their reward and their light.
لهم أجرهم ونورهمAnd those who have disowned and denied Our signs — those are the companions of the Blaze.
وٱلذين كفروا وكذبوا بايتنآ أولئك أصحب ٱلجحيمKnow that the present life is but play, distraction, adornment, mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in accumulation of goods and children — like the example of a saving rain whose vegetation delights the sowers, then it dries up, and you see it turn yellow, then it becomes debris.
ٱعلموا أنما ٱلحيوة ٱلدنيا لعب ولهو وزينة وتفاخر بينكم وتكاثر في ٱلأمول وٱلأولد كمثل غيث أعجب ٱلكفار نباته ثم يهيج فترىه مصفرا ثم يكون حطماAnd in the last life: severe punishment, and forgiveness from God and good pleasure.
وفي ٱلءاخرة عذاب شديد ومغفرة من ٱلله ورضونAnd the present life is nothing but a deceptive enjoyment.
وما ٱلحيوة ٱلدنيآ إلا متع ٱلغرورRace toward forgiveness from your Guardian and a garden whose width is like the width of the heaven and the earth, prepared for those who believe in God and His messengers.
سابقوا إلى مغفرة من ربكم وجنة عرضها كعرض ٱلسمآء وٱلأرض أعدت للذين ءامنوا بٱلله ورسلهThat is the favor of God, which He grants to whom He wills.
ذلك فضل ٱلله يؤتيه من يشآءAnd God holds the immense favor.
وٱلله ذو ٱلفضل ٱلعظيمNo calamity strikes the earth or yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being.
مآ أصاب من مصيبة في ٱلأرض ولا في أنفسكم إلا في كتب من قبل أن نبرأهآThat is indeed easy for God — so that you do not lament for what has escaped you, nor exult [excessively] over what He has given you.
إن ذلك على ٱلله يسير لكيلا تأسوا على ما فاتكم ولا تفرحوا بمآ ءاتىكمAnd God does not love any arrogant boaster.
وٱلله لا يحب كل مختال فخورThose who are stingy and enjoin stinginess upon people.
ٱلذين يبخلون ويأمرون ٱلناس بٱلبخلAnd whoever turns away — indeed God is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy.
ومن يتول فإن ٱلله هو ٱلغني ٱلحميدWe have certainly sent Our messengers with clear proofs and sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that people may maintain equity.
لقد أرسلنا رسلنا بٱلبينت وأنزلنا معهم ٱلكتب وٱلميزان ليقوم ٱلناس بٱلقسطAnd We sent down iron, in which is great strength and benefits for the people.
وأنزلنا ٱلحديد فيه بأس شديد ومنفع للناسAnd so that God may distinguish who helps Him and His messengers, without seeing Him.
وليعلم ٱلله من ينصره ورسله بٱلغيبIndeed, God is the Strong, the All-Powerful.
إن ٱلله قوي عزيزAnd We certainly sent Nuh and Ibrahim and placed in their descendants prophecy and the Scripture.
ولقد أرسلنا نوحا وإبرهيم وجعلنا في ذريتهما ٱلنبوة وٱلكتبSome of them let themselves be guided...
فمنهم مهتد...and many of them are the oversteppers.
وكثير منهم فسقونThen We caused Our messengers to follow in their footsteps, and We caused Issa son of Maryam to follow, and We gave him the Injil.
ثم قفينا على ءاثرهم برسلنا وقفينا بعيسى ٱبن مريم وءاتينه ٱلإنجيلAnd We placed in the cores of those who followed him kindness and benevolence, and monasticism, which they invented — We did not prescribe it for them — except in seeking the good pleasure of God.
وجعلنا في قلوب ٱلذين ٱتبعوه رأفة ورحمة ورهبانية ٱبتدعوها ما كتبنها عليهم إلا ٱبتغآء رضون ٱللهBut they did not observe it as it should have been observed.
فما رعوها حق رعايتهاSo We gave those among them who believed their reward.
فاتينا ٱلذين ءامنوا منهم أجرهمAnd many of them are the oversteppers.
وكثير منهم فسقونO you who have believed! guard yourselves toward God and believe in His messenger; He will give you a double portion of His benevolence and make for you a light by which you will walk, and He will forgive you.
يأيها ٱلذين ءامنوا ٱتقوا ٱلله وءامنوا برسوله يؤتكم كفلين من رحمته ويجعل لكم نورا تمشون به ويغفر لكمAnd God is Most-Forgiving, Benevolent — so that the People of the Scripture may know that they have no power over anything of the favor of God, and that [all] favor is in the hand of God, which He gives to whom He wills.
وٱلله غفور رحيم لئلا يعلم أهل ٱلكتب ألا يقدرون على شىء من فضل ٱلله وأن ٱلفضل بيد ٱلله يؤتيه من يشآءAnd God holds the immense favor.
وٱلله ذو ٱلفضل ٱلعظيم
