فسح
Attested forms : تَفَسَّحُوا۟ 1 · ٱفْسَحُوا۟ 1 · يَفْسَحِ 1
Core meaning
To make room: to widen the space for another; the room given up in the assembly calls for the room God grants.
Uses
تَفَسَّحُوا۟, فَٱفْسَحُوا۟, يَفْسَحِ → "to make room" : the same verb for the gesture asked, the gesture done, and God's response.
- «إِذَا قِيلَ لَكُمْ تَفَسَّحُوا۟ فِى ٱلْمَجَٰلِسِ فَٱفْسَحُوا۟ يَفْسَحِ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ» — "When you are told to make room in assemblies, make room; God will make room for you" (58:11)
Evidence from the text
The three forms fit in a single sentence: the invitation (تَفَسَّحُوا۟), the execution (فَٱفْسَحُوا۟) and the response (يَفْسَحِ ٱللَّهُ). The same verb serves the human gesture and the divine one: the room given up in the assembly receives in return a room granted by God. The rest of the verse states the assembly's other movement, rising (نشز).
Distinctions
