Formas atestiguadas : ذَٰنِكَ 1
Core meaning
Demonstrative of distance, in the masculine dual: it points together to two things already shown. The translation renders it "these … two".
Uses
فَذَٰنِكَ + dual → "these, then, are two …" : gathers in a single gesture the two proofs just given, the staff and the hand.
- «فَذَٰنِكَ بُرْهَٰنَانِ مِن رَّبِّكَ» — "These, then, are two demonstrations from your Guardian" (28:32)
Evidence from the text
The word appears only once. Moussa has just seen his staff vibrate "as though it were an Occulted" (28:31), then his hand come out "white, without any harm" (28:32). ذَٰنِكَ takes up these two signs from a distance, as an accomplished whole: the dual fixes their number, the mark of distance ـكَ sets them as already shown, on the model of ذَٰلِكَ.
Distinctions
- هذان — the dual of nearness: it points to two present things, whereas ذَٰنِكَ takes up two things already given
