Bentuk yang tercatat : رَمْزًۭا 1
Core meaning
To make a sign without speaking: the gesture that takes the place of speech.
Uses
رَمْزًا → "by gestures" : to speak to others by gesture alone.
- «أَلَّا تُكَلِّمَ ٱلنَّاسَ ثَلَٰثَةَ أَيَّامٍ إِلَّا رَمْزًۭا» — "you will not speak to men except by gestures, for three days" (3:41)
Evidence from the text
Its only use. The sign asked for by Zakariya is the halting of his speech: he will speak to people only "by gestures, for three days" (3:41). The gesture replaces the voice for a counted time, and the same verse asks him to remember his Guardian abundantly and to glorify evening and morning.
