The pomegranate tree and its fruit.

Uses

1. ٱلرُّمَّان → "the pomegranate", "pomegranates" : the tree named with the olive, or among the fruits of the gardens.

   • «وَٱلزَّيْتُونَ وَٱلرُّمَّانَ مُتَشَٰبِهًۭا وَغَيْرَ مُتَشَٰبِهٍۢ» — "and the olive and the pomegranate, resembling and not resembling" (6:141)
   • «فِيهِمَا فَٰكِهَةٌۭ وَنَخْلٌۭ وَرُمَّانٌۭ» — "In them both, savoury fruits, palm trees, and pomegranates" (55:68)

Evidence from the text

Twice the pomegranate goes with the olive, in the same formula: "resembling and not resembling" (6:99, 6:141). The two trees resemble each other in appearance and differ in fruit. In 55:68, it is named with the palm tree among the fruits of the two gardens.
