Засвидетельствованные формы : تَبَتَّلْ 1 · تَبْتِيلًۭا 1
Core meaning
To detach oneself from everything else in order to give oneself over to one alone.
Uses
تَبَتَّلْ, تَبْتِيلًا → "to give oneself over", "fully" : to give oneself without division; the verbal noun doubles the verb, and English carries it by "fully", as in 17:111.
- «وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًۭا» — "and give yourself over to Him, fully" (73:8)
Evidence from the text
The two words are in the same sentence: the verb and its verbal noun express a gift without reserve, and إِلَىٰ marks its single term, "to Him". The gesture comes after what the sura has already asked, to rise at night and recite the Recitation with care (73:2-4), and it is joined to the command to remember the name of the Guardian (73:8): it orients a practice, it does not withdraw from the world. What follows names the One to whom one gives oneself over: "Guardian of the east and the west" (73:9).
