Засвидетельствованные формы : مُّسَنَّدَةٌۭ 1
Core meaning
To be propped against a support: to stand by something other than oneself.
Uses
مُسَنَّدَة → "propped-up" : pieces of wood that hold only by what supports them.
- «كَأَنَّهُمْ خُشُبٌۭ مُّسَنَّدَةٌۭ» — "they are like propped-up pieces of wood" (63:4)
Evidence from the text
The single use describes the hypocrites: their bearing dazzles, their speech is listened to, but "they are like propped-up pieces of wood" (63:4). The passive participle says a borrowed stance: remove the prop, and nothing stands. The verse at once adds that they think every cry is against them: outward assurance hides inward fear.
Distinctions
- قوم — to stand by oneself, whereas سند is standing by a prop
