At-Tur

By the Mount! By a written record, on a deployed parchment! By the Frequented House! By the elevated roof! By the sea set aboil! The punishment of your Guardian will, surely, befall —

وَٱلطُّورِ وَكِتَٰبٍۢ مَّسْطُورٍۢ فِى رَقٍّۢ مَّنشُورٍۢ وَٱلْبَيْتِ ٱلْمَعْمُورِ وَٱلسَّقْفِ ٱلْمَرْفُوعِ وَٱلْبَحْرِ ٱلْمَسْجُورِ إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَٰقِعٌۭ

nothing can repel it.

مَّا لَهُۥ مِن دَافِعٍۢ

The day the sky will be shaken with violent turbulence, and the mountains will set forth in motion —

يَوْمَ تَمُورُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ مَوْرًۭا وَتَسِيرُ ٱلْجِبَالُ سَيْرًۭا

woe, that Day, to the deniers, those who play in vain talk.

فَوَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى خَوْضٍۢ يَلْعَبُونَ

The day they will be pushed violently toward the fire of Jahannam,

يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا

"This is the Fire you used to deny.

هَٰذِهِ ٱلنَّارُ ٱلَّتِى كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ

Is this, then, an illusion, or do you not see clearly?

أَفَسِحْرٌ هَٰذَآ أَمْ أَنتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ

You are only recompensed for what you used to do."

إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

and their Guardian has protected them from the punishment of the Blaze.

وَوَقَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

"Eat and drink pleasantly, for what you used to do," reclining on aligned couches; and We paired them with companions of listening and support.

كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍۢ مَّصْفُوفَةٍۢ وَزَوَّجْنَٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍۢ

Every person is a pledge for what they have earned.

كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌۭ

And We will provide them with savoury fruit and flesh, of what they desire; they will pass among themselves a cup wherein there is neither idle talk nor incitement to transgression.

وَأَمْدَدْنَٰهُم بِفَٰكِهَةٍۢ وَلَحْمٍۢ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ يَتَنَٰزَعُونَ فِيهَا كَأْسًۭا لَّا لَغْوٌۭ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأْثِيمٌۭ

And there will circulate among them young boys who belong to them, like well-sheltered pearls.

وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ غِلْمَانٌۭ لَّهُمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٌۭ مَّكْنُونٌۭ

And they will turn to one another, questioning each other,

وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍۢ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ

saying: "We were before, among our own, filled with apprehension; God has graced us and protected us from the punishment of the torrid wind.

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ فِىٓ أَهْلِنَا مُشْفِقِينَ فَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَىٰنَا عَذَابَ ٱلسَّمُومِ

We used to call upon Him before: He is indeed the Virtuous, the Benevolent."

إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْبَرُّ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

So remind: by the blessing of your Guardian, you are neither a soothsayer nor deranged.

فَذَكِّرْ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍۢ وَلَا مَجْنُونٍ

Or do they say: "A seductive orator, we anticipate for him the blows of fate"?

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرٌۭ نَّتَرَبَّصُ بِهِۦ رَيْبَ ٱلْمَنُونِ

for I too, with you, am among those who bide their time."

فَإِنِّى مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ

Or is it their composure that commands them to this, or are they a people who exceed all measure?

أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَٰمُهُم بِهَٰذَآ أَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌۭ طَاغُونَ

Rather, they do not believe.

بَل لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ

Let them then bring a discourse like it, if they are veracious!

فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِحَدِيثٍۢ مِّثْلِهِۦٓ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَٰدِقِينَ

Or were they created out of nothing, or are they themselves the creators?

أَمْ خُلِقُوا۟ مِنْ غَيْرِ شَىْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ ٱلْخَٰلِقُونَ

They rather have no certainty.

بَل لَّا يُوقِنُونَ

Or do they hold the treasuries of your Guardian, or are they the ones who compel?

أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَآئِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ ٱلْمُصَۣيْطِرُونَ

Then let their listener bring a manifest authority!

فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُم بِسُلْطَٰنٍۢ مُّبِينٍ

Or would He have daughters, while you would have sons?

أَمْ لَهُ ٱلْبَنَٰتُ وَلَكُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَ

Or do you ask them for a reward, so that they are heavily laden with debt?

أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ أَجْرًۭا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍۢ مُّثْقَلُونَ

Or do they possess what escapes the senses, so that they write it down?

أَمْ عِندَهُمُ ٱلْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ

It is rather those who disown who will be the victims of the scheme.

فَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْمَكِيدُونَ

Glory be to God, above what they associate with Him!

سُبْحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ

And if they saw a fragment of the sky tumbling, they would say: "A heap of clouds."

وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ كِسْفًۭا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ سَاقِطًۭا يَقُولُوا۟ سَحَابٌۭ مَّرْكُومٌۭ

So forsake them until they meet their day in which they will be thunderstruck — the day their scheme will not avail them at all, and they will not be helped.

فَذَرْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى فِيهِ يُصْعَقُونَ يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْـًۭٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ

but most of them do not know.

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

And glorify, with praise, your Guardian, when you arise,

وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ

and glorify Him during part of the night, and at the fading of the stars.

وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَإِدْبَٰرَ ٱلنُّجُومِ
